If you didn’t run the Milwaukee at full cut depth and set it for the 1” that you were cutting it would have likely cleared the square.
Still is a frustrating design
It's a great design. Maximum depth.
Means it won't clear a square when cutting 2x4s?
It’s amazing if you are left handed
Exactly thought the same thing right away. Also you didn't have to buy the saw with blade on that side milwaukee has both...
@@josh857 lefty here - the tools arent meant for us lol we end up running them right handed so we can see the damn blade

You know there’s an adjustment to raise and lower the body from the guide but honestly a compound miter saw would be a better tool for the job.East coast man here
You should set the blade depth to just a hair beyond your workpiece thickness. therefore, thicker material cannot be cut using a speed square because the motor housing will be closer to the guide.
@@Flying81 on an east coast saw, you have this issue with the motor. West coast saws for right handed people would never have this issue with a square as a guide. I have no idea why anyone even still makes East coast saws
@@Flying81 no, incorrect. He would still be right handed on the other end of the board. Therefore the orientation would always be, from left to right, speed square - guide - blade - motor, and so the motor would never be in the way.
@@Flying81 pause the video at 11:18 and tell me how the speed square would be on the side with the motor. He’s right handed, so he’s going to hold the square with his left hand. Because the blade is on the left hand side (west coast) of the saw, the speed square sits against the guide on the blade side, not the motor side.
@@Flying81 then pause it at 9:49 with the Milwaukee. He’s still right handed with the saw and holds the square with his left hand. But the blade is on his far right side, and he can’t cross his arms to put the square on the blade side. So it’s on the motor side, and it hits the square while cross cutting.
“The north east corner is giving me trouble, imagine that.” Good one
Surprised he was able to do anything with the west side
@@robotcactus_mk1882 the east side is holding it up.

Get a Milwaukee fuel worm drive style. Use one almost daily. Works with a square too
Corect, he compared 2 totally different tools, DeWobble also makes that "east coast" saw.
@@chuckmiller5763 The Dewalt flex volt "east coast" saw clears a speed square at full depth on the motor side. At least the one i have owned for 3 years does....
Also works on a square "triangle" in case you have a round hole😂 Fuel worm drive Cody, you will never look back
Makita and Metabo HPT much better ergonomics, lighter and MHPT can also go hybrid with AC adapter for long cuts

Great work. One thing I would have done differently is the corners of the deck, cut those lower board at 45 degress so it matches the deck corners.
I was searching comments to make sure I wasn't being a broken record, but I agree.
If he does full stairs it’ll probably cover that up.
Yeah I was just thinking I would have done the same.
Definitely needs 45s on corners.
We're gonna have the war band after us if we keep up this slander 😆
Just raise the blade depth... And it will clear the speed square.

No 45 on the corners? Psh, west coast hack

That’s called a mitre and he literally started with that… explain yourself
That's funny, I can't see the blade when its on the left because it throws all the dust right into my face.
I agree with your sentiment on an earlier video about the M12 tools. I’ve built a lot of custom furniture up to framing small structures and I’ve probably reached for my m18 a handful of times in a year for the occasional 10” lag screw. Not a lot those m12s won’t do.
And yes full stairs. At some point when you’re sitting there reflecting on life with friends, stairs become the best seat in the house.
Yep, I agree...the full stairs indeed.
I drilled 3 holes 5" deep in concrete with the m12 hammer drill with the big 4.0 battery i was really impressed i leave my 18 set at home now the m12 is scary good and a must have for pro's and proho's alike
East coast man here… my Ryobi saw has the blade on the left side…and the motor easily clears my speed squares.
Uh oh. That’s not what we wanted to hear.
I just returned from an awesome time in Fairbanks Alaska. Had dinner with The Alaskan Pepper, and we both agree that you are awesome. God bless you and your family, Cody.
@@WhiteTrashTennesseeyour fits you perfect
38 degrees?! Goodness, that's colder than this time last year by a couple degrees!
The deck is coming along beautifully... can't say I'm surprised that wrong-handed skil-saw wasn't designed for proper work with proper tools; probably designed by an engineer with no callouses on his hands.
Hey Cody, a little trick for a picture frame border, whether it's an interior floor with an inlay, tile work, pavers, or a deck... Lay the field first and then cut the border of the field straight, then add the border. In this case, I would have left the start and end of the boards unfastened, screw down all planks. Cut all planks at once with a circular saw, or track saw. Lift the unfastened ends to slip in joist tape underneath. Fasten the ends, and then add the border planks. That's how this Northeaster has done it. 😉I swear I am one of the good ones.
Using a drill to drive and a driver to drill. Now I've seen everything.
Make it make sense.
Lot of wood workers like using drill drivers when woodworking, having no impacts prevents splitting of the wood generally. But on the other hand others are now using impacts for everything so it’s all becoming preference now.
Building a deck on a cabin in the western climate in your bare feet. You have reached the pinnacle of society my friend. I’m hoping to be in the same situation before to long😋
Lol that little mini rant about the plane being set face down gave me a flash back of 8th grade shop class over 30 years ago.
Why didn't you adjust the cut depth on the Milwaukee like you did the DeWalt and eliminate the motor interference on the Milwaukee?
Been there...done that lol! Motor hit speed sq! 😡😂
Ryobi that’s red 😅 Deck looks amazing! Full stairs !
Ryobi and Milwaukee both owned by TTI. Milwaukee gets patents from Ryobi and probably the vice versa

"Sitting around drinking their Folgers Crystals." 😂😂😂😂
yeah that one was uncalled for to be honest
East coast man here. The proper way to use a saw with a circular blade is to adjust the depth to get the maximum number of teeth in the material at one time. Had you set your Milwaukee circular saw up correctly for the job, the motor would have cleared the speed square. The motor going that low is actually an advantage as it allows for the maximum possible depth of cut. But then, I wouldn’t expect a west coast man to know these things ;-)
What a douchebag
This dude is the king of engagement. lol.
If you use a 2x6 block about 4 inches long and tap it firmly with a hammer you can flatten those creases out of your metal trim.
OMG that view at 5:17 is insane. Well done sir!
Your putting the decking upside down . Widest part of the grain (cup) (growth rings ) goes down . Keeps the end corners from curling up
Perfect music choice.
Absolutely. At 5:22 when he was just quietly working with piano music in the background, very nice.
I live by a lake in Arkansas but they just started some 5year maintenance and drained the lake. So much for that backup planned water source.
I like your idea about the stairs .
Never use boards with the pith (bullseye) in them and always make the rings "frown" so when they age they do not cup and hold water. Boards with a pith in them are a huge crack that hasn't happened yet...
Act accordingly
Makes sense hope I remember this one
In fact I think this very thing happened to me on the cubby house deck I built for my kids. Can confirm
Looks great!
Full length stairs 100% if it's in your budget. That always looks the best, and is most versitle. PLUS you can build in with "boxes" One large platform as the bottom, then a box on top of it, and then another box on top of it... One of the best guys on youtube, RR Builders has a great video on it. How to build deck stairs the EASY WAY. Everything is looking great, Cody!
The outfit is reminiscent of Randy in the newest southpark special.
You could have got the rear handle Milwaukee saw, the blade would be on the left side like that DeWobble.
You know you have the wrong Milwaukee saw to do the job, buy the big boy saw meant for work is their Rear Handle Circular Saw. The motor is on the other side, just like your DeWalt, it has way more power like a worm-drive, and it's not that disgusting yellow.
real saws are teal
I own the same milkwaukee saw. I place the square on the other side of the board and face the pointed part of the speed square towards myself, allowing the blade to fully clear the board before the motor hits the square.
Always bashing the other coast without realizing that Milwaukee makes both left and right handed saws.... Also you don't need the full cut depth on that facia, if you raise the fence up your motor will clear the square with ease.
East coast, boomers... Uniquely bigoted in microscopic ways.
2 step stairs all the way across would look great.
They're a huge tripping hazard.
Screws with your brain.
I deliver so I see lots of porches and wrap around stairs seem to screw with the eyeline. And no handrail is also a hazard
I don’t quite understand why he mitred the board to join them up in the middle, but didn’t mitre the corner. To me it would’ve looked a lot better. Especially when the deck above the corner is also mitered. Maybe that’s just me.
I thought the same thing. ProHo for you I guess.
Inb4 someone craps on not 45ing the facia. Also, steps across the front eliminates the need for that dreadful railing!
Yes, that facia needs a 45. I found it funny he was looking right at it while explaining proper screw spacing. No hate wranglerstar, I woulda prolly done the same thing.
If he does full stairs it’ll probably cover that up.
that view just always blows me away. gives me a deep yearning to live out in nature
When I see you laying that decking with a speed square ,drill and a handful screws I'm reminded why I worried when I see builders roll up with enough tools to build a house .
Power to you
Good sir, I have a few issues on how you finished the skirting on your porch.
1. You should have 45 the corners instead of butt joints. Plus your butt joints are not consistent on both side. One is visible from the cabin side, while the other is visible from the front.
2. While I do not know where your stairs will be going on the porch, nor you might not have decided yourself. It would have been better to try and hide the splice under the steps. You might still be doing so where you did put the splice. As for commercial guys from the Northeast carrying tools in a bucket. Their is a good reason for this, and I won't disclose it here, but feel free to dm me, and I will explain it to you. You will be impressed with the wisdom of it.
Alpine water on a very hot day. I miss that. Here in TX, if you take a dip in the middle of the day, the river or lake will be about 80 degrees. Yuck.
I went looking because I was curious about the saw... it looks like Milwaukee has a handful of different circular saw models, including ones with the blade on the other side.
I just had an issue with an M12 battery that was barely used maybe 5x (looked brand new) and wouldn't charge, read 0 volts. It was a year and a half old and they didn't want to honor the warranty because I didn't buy it at an "authorized distributor" i.e. Home Depot. It has a serial number and build date on it so they know it was only halfway through its warranty life. Total letdown.
My favorite thing about this deck is over the next few decades Cody is going to say "I had to hand plane each of those planks" at least two dozen times ;)
I love my wrong side Milwaukee saw because I’m a wrong side hand guy. I just taped the ejection for the saw dust so it doesn’t blow in my face.
i know accidents happen and it is all in good jest but it is hilarious seeing him switch from Milwaukee to DeWalt in the span of a single video lmao
Why did you use screws with different threads on the shank? I've never seen screws like that
These are Stainless Steel Trex screws. I had a whole box left over from our house build so I"m using them,
Is there a reason you mitered the cut in the middle front but didn’t miter the corners?
Does the saw not adjust up to clear square?
The reason the Milwaukee saw didn't clear the speed square is because you have it set too deep.
Stop the cope, Dewalt clears the square at full depth,
@@wranglerstar… but always remember… your the “Pro-Ho”!!! beloved.
Beloved 🙌 loving this cabin build
If the blade depth was adjusted on the Milwaukee it would have cleared the edge on the square.
Sound guy deserves a raise. Your blocking is incredible too. Your work is blissfully consumed over here in west coast North Carolina.
Thank you, sound is tough with so much wind
@@wranglerstar heard the wind once, and it was slight. Your audio is always crispy. Never any breath or wind and the sounds of your tools and actions are always up front in the mix. Asmr my friend.
And you never clip even with all the tools and machinery. Good sound goes unnoticed but it is the most important part. I’ll watch bad images with great sound. I won’t watch great images with bad sound.
"The Northeast corner is giving me troubles" funniest thing I've heard in a while.
Question: why didn’t you use another 45 mitre on the fascia corners?
May I ask, why are you using the impact driver to drill pilots, and the drill to drive fasteners?
Keep in mind that circular saw will tilt the opposite way as your worm drive. It comes in handy when cutting hip or valley rafters or other miter cuts… you may find one saw a better fit on certain cuts than the other, even tho it feels left handed on straight cuts.
What about wrap around on the stairs? Just a thought. Creates dimension.
Full length stairs
Will you be making a single full cabin build video once the cabin is complete?
I don't understand what you are saying,
@@wranglerstar -- A single full length video of the cabin build, from start to finish.
104 degrees working above scorching sand here in New Mexico is the worst. Feels like the sun is beating on you from both directions

9:30. Ryobi. That made me chuckle.
94 degrees in central oregon today . I whent to Portland on the 9th and it was 102 and I drove back to bend when I got to madras the feeling of dry heat came back and I got to say I'll take the wet heat over dry heat any day .
West coast man struggles with his soft wood.
As an east coast hobby carpenter I’d be using a slide saw miter box on that deck. No west coast hillbilly framing saws. But I do agree that that Milwaukee saw is flawed.
The cabin is looking good. I think if you had set your depth on that sidewinder, the motor housing would have cleared your square.
A) re:M18- does the saw not have a depth adjustment?
B) re:M18- doesn't 'waukee make left and right variants?
C) shouldn't let your tape zip back in. Its hard on the retraction spring, hard on the tape itself and its hard on the rivets holding the claw.
Us east coast guys don’t run our saws along a square, we raw dog them square cuts boy!
That NE Corner comment was gold.
What model Dewalt is that?
17:15 as a LONG time fan of the channel, we appreciate the effort that goes into every shot. The sequence at 4:50 belongs in a Wes Anderson movie. 11/10 content
Stairs all the way around, with a handrail in the middle front, and 45 degrees on the corners. And I'm also wondering if you think Mt. Fuji Is going to blow in your lifetime.
that would be cool excessive but cool lol
I’m an east coast man. Milwaukee makes a left blade m18 “wormdrive style” saw. Run one at work most days. Paired with a 12 amp hour battery it runs all day. Even on a commercial scale. Still no substitute for a skil mag 77. Always found myself cutting left handed with a sidewinder.
I think they usually lay the boards out, nail them in place and then cut them straight at the end in one straight cut and then put lay down the "picture frame" so to speak. I'm not sure exactly, but it just makes most sense to me that way.
Curious, not criticism: why didn’t you miter the fascia at the corners instead of lap/butt?
A carpenter, he ain't.
Flex 24v inline 6 1/2 inch saw is belt driven, no issues using saw guides and has a built in dust port that really works. Can see the cutline on either side of the saw. Very accurate and quiet. Use the stacked lithium batteries. 3.5, 6, 10, or 12 ah. The designers solved a lot of issues with this saw .
Definitely miss this type of content here. This has old school wrangler star vibes
"The North East corner is giving me trouble" 😂
No railings. Do stone masonry wrapped raised beds on each side that wrap around the front a little and then full width stairs from bed to bed with hand made blacksmithed hand rails on each side. Nothing to block the view from windows and porch.
I like that idea 👍
What hand plane is that?
You called the Milwaukee saw a Ryobi? I thought “my ryobi isn’t red, it’s yellow” I got all confused 😂😂😂😂😂
I learned on an east coast saw and always struggled getting accurate cuts. When I got to a point where I bought my own tools the first thing I did different was get a left blade saw and I’ve never even thought about switching back! Milwaukee has an m18 fuel rear handled worm drive circular saw that is absolutely killer. Not quite as compact as the dewalt 60v saw but you’re able to use any size m18 battery with it unlike the dewalt which requires 60v batteries.
Zero people call a sidewinder an east coast saw.
You can order Milwaukee fuel circular saw with blade and motor on either side your choice. They also make a worm drive circular saw if that’s what you want.
What do you recommend for hoses for proho fire kit? Got 6 of the sprinklers like you have with bases and 2 gas 2-stroke water pumps. Pumps can use 1" or ght. Thinking toy hoses for the sprinklers but not sure the best amount to get, not sure about their reliability. I watched the vids you did a month ago, and would love to see what is in the two boxes/totes in the first video.
So are the clogs a west coast fashion statement, then? From smoke jumpers to clogs with ankles showing is crazy 🤪
What’s crazy is how concerned you are about another man’s appearance this is very gay
Full steps look really nice, but they do add shelter for critters and anything the wind will blow in and they make it hard to clean.
Yup! Got to lift at the end of the cut to avoid the lip on the square. Hate it too🙃
Here’s a saw suggestion from a young guy in the trades: Look into a maffell kss 50. 95% of the time it’ll replace your chop saw, table saw, circle saw and track saw. I lay wood floors for a living and I carry in 1 saw to every job and it’s the smaller version of that saw, but for doing everything, I would get the next size up or maybe even 2 sizes up.Takes some getting used to but it’s the only saw I need partnered with a jig saw on occasion. Its a bit pricey but you know those Germans are proud of there tools and it reflects in the price.
I have the same m18 saw with the blade on the wrong side. Now I realized why I'm so annoyed with it! Need to sell and get the m18 skil saw with the blade on the other side
I switched to milwaukee, when my lithium 18v shit out prematurely i invested in the fuel which did the same, i went to 20v dewalt and not a single issue for over 5 years now
Front of the cabin is looking good and the women are eating well, toup is stilling shining. Full front stair with a black wrought iron railing would look nice. 38 degree plunges sounds good when it's 100 degrees out. Keep the faith!
Why would you miter the front facing boards but not on the corners?
Great episode. Hard to believe that Milwaukee hasn't addressed the issue of the saw.I think you should present this problem to Milwaukee so the rest of us can have a well rounded piece of equipment. This East Coast Man thanks you.
