lol love the landing boys , must get me one of those auto disassemble on landing functions for my plane for those days when you just dont have time to fluff around pulling wings and nose gear off
Ok, so I agree the landing is kinda funny and odd at first glance. I have to admit I laughed the first time I saw it. But consider this: These guys aren't operating where there's nice long stretches of level pavement to land on. The ground could be incredibly irregular. Also, the software to do a controlled "proper" landing is quite complex. So, this is a decent compromise. They just don't bother with a normal landing because in all likelihood there is nowhere to land, so landing gear, etc would be useless and would flip the thing all over the place anyway. The breaking apart is to release energy of impact in a controlled manner. Engineering these solutions isn't as easy as it looks, there are mission requirements you are likely not considering, so don't be so quick to criticize. Either that, or do better, form a startup, and win the contract with the military. They are surely interested in a "better way" if you are so confident you have it.
Chris Anderson I used this UAV in the US Army in 2005. That's exactly how it's designed. We landed them in back of a duece and a half, roof tops, etc etc. Great comment by the way.
@discofishing First, your responding to a comment I made a year ago. Also, the 20mm cannon featured on the AH-1 Cobra has a much higher rate of fire, not to mention the rounds have a fragmentation radius similar to an M67 grenade. Whatever, its a cheap movie demonstrating the UAV, not the Cobra.
@adudeduh you can either put it together and carry 1 part or NOT put it together and carry MULTIPLE PARTS. i thought it was cute of the "soldiers" to use "wal mart commo gear". no up armor, no pb, pretty much no tactical actions at the dismount, let alone WHILE they were driving. if these actors were in my squad i would dx them fast and get some cooks or dental assts to replace them. couldn't be much worse.
Learning how to fly these tomorrow, super stoked to add this to my arsenal as a 11b

Great video. Flew these as a scout in US Army.

@tehblizz it is because it breaks apart to make the damage to the least. it is nice landing for that kind of rc uav.
How can we fly these in the military?

@theloopholeisntaahol Well it has a 20mm three barrel cannon. That machine gun enough for you?
What kind of landing do you call that ? an auger ?
Nice VFX helli
@theloopholeisntaahol
