    Please note, while I say that reputable breeders often have WHS guarantees, a breeder with one does not automatically mean they’re reputable! It is just one of many factors to consider when purchasing a hedgehog from a breeder.

      I'm also guessing that post mortem testing to find out if it was WHS is probably very expensive and more cost than a new hedgehog that the breeder promises.

    My Hedgehog is showing some of these symptoms as of two weeks ago. We are trying to discard all other possible diseases, treating the symptoms as they show, but I am starting to loose faith as it is not eating well (now on syringe feeding). I intend to give my hedgehog the best quality of life but this breaks my heart so bad.

    Just on three months ago my little guy's back left leg started dragging. Vet diagnosed WHS. 2nd vet did tests and also said that based on no other issues showed up, likely. He's now lost user of both back legs.
    When he wants to move I put my fingers under his legs and let him walk, and I just slide my hand where he wants to go. But the whole family is so heartbroken.. First family pet, we love him so much, and this from a guy who was never a pet guy before..

    Noticed my hedgehog didn't eat three nights ago, she did the night after, but then didn't again last night. I put some buggies in there and she pretty much ignored them and then started wobbling a little. I think she's in a cold/hibernating attempt. Our temp where I live was up the past week so I turned down my heat, and it just dropped again the past couple days. Her temp was only at 66F inside her home, and her tummy felt cool to me when I finally got her out from a spiky ball of doom for me. I turned the household heat back up and also turned her tanks heater thermostat up too. Thank you for sharing all these videos!

    This video is very helpful because I know you are not a vet/expert. But I honestly don't really know much about WHS just little bits and pieces I've heard of; so hearing some new/different information on it does help open my eyes more and help me work with my vet on understanding my hedgehogs possible illnesses.

    I watched this video 3 years ago when researching hedgehogs because I wanted one. My parents, after a LOT of convincing, got it for me. I was a preteen and our breeder whom we drove to another state for had a WHS guarantee but only if the hedgehog was taken for a check up a few days after we got him. My dad, of course, was mainly the reason we didn’t take him to the vet. Now three years later, while I love him, I’m ashamed for never taking my hedgy to the vet even once. I really do think he has WHS. I also think he may even have a tummy infection since his stool has changed a lot. I think I may be able to take him to a vet but at this point it feels like I just have to help him stay happy before leaving. It’s heartbreaking but he is around 3 and a half years so I was blessed to have more time with him. Sadly I overlooked his life until I realized his time is ticking. :( i struggled taking care of myself for a while so my baby was in some nasty conditions at times. From now on I’m going to try my absolute best to give him the best conditions for his time left. Thanks for the video.

    Mine is 5 yrs I believe. I got her from a coworker and she didn’t know her lineage. She barely knew how she was. I’m treating her like a geriatric now. I’m hand feeding her and spooning her water. I’ve even used a syringe. We ruled out her ears and gave her medication for infection. She’s not getting better. I do use pool noodles to get her out and do some exercising, this helps her balance but she gets tired as she hasn’t run on her wheel now for a couple of weeks. This is the third week going on. Her weight is good. She’s eating and drinking but with my help. I take her out in the morning for bathroom and when she gets up in the later evening. She was very active otherwise. I’ll keep her alive until I can’t. Today I’m going to make homemade chicken bone broth, throw in some peas and hopefully that’ll help with constipation. I heard bone broth offers a lot, including beef bone and knuckle bone together. Her diet was only kitty kibble as she would not eat anything else. I tried egg, chicken, broccoli, unlike my other hedgehog, she loves real food. I tried pinkies, again my other hedgehog will eat real food. Thank you for this video it helped a lot, knowing I did the other steps too. ♥️♥️

    the vet that i went to was really well, they did tons of tests before jumping to the conclusion of her having whs. she doesn’t not have it major as she has certain moments were she can use her back legs a little bit. it broke my heart because she is literally my best friend. i hope she stays with me for longer but if it starts to cause her pain then i will put her down. writing this is tearing me up. love you holly always have always will no matter what

    • @ToriLynnPPH
      @ToriLynnPPH  7 лет назад +8

      +lightlurker A two year guarantee? That’s a bit odd. It is usually a lifetime guarantee, since most hedgehogs don’t show signs of WHS until later in their life!

      PugPibbleHedgie true! But better than no guarantee I suppose 🤔, she said there was no history of whs in her hedgies so I also think she was pretty confident it wouldn't be needed, but fingers crossed that's the case

      +Daniela Hedgie In theory you can dress them up if they’ll let you, but most don’t appreciate it. Little hats are the easiest, like a witch hat or something. :) They make small pet ones on Etsy, and they can be DIY’d out of felt and such. I likely won’t make a video on it though because my boys won’t hold still for something like that!

    I do have a question if you could help me or anyone in the comments. I have a hedgehog who is a year old from me a adopting her has a baby maybe 5 months. Ever since she had her first litter she has had a intense wobble. She can run on her wheel and walk around fine but when she’s still or just walking around she tends to wobble like a baby trying to crawl. She doesn’t have any problems other than that but me and my husband just always assumed she had some time of whs. Has anyone had this in a hedgehog before?

    hey i doubt that this comment will ever be seen or responded to but i am in DESPERATE need of someone with some knowledge on hedgehogs. I have a hedgehog named Piper. She’s about 2 and a half years old and this past week I noticed that she hasn’t been sleeping in her hut like she normally does and instead she’s been sleeping half on and half off her wheel. Additionally, in the past few days i noticed that she hasn’t been touching her food and water. Today i cleaned out her bin and bathed her. Normally she’s a very fussy hedgehog and she huffs a lot when i pick her up and bathe her. But now, she doesn’t struggle at all and it was almost like she couldn’t pick her head up out of the water. At first i thought she was just drinking the water because i had just put her in our sink (fresh water of course) but i realized that she wasn’t moving at all or trying to get out like she normally does. I immediately took her out, dried her off, and used a heat lamp to keep her warm while i looked up what could be wrong. During this time, Piper threw up clear liquid and she lost the ability to lift her head up. Around a hour ago I noticed that she was wobbling a lot when she would try to walk. The wobbling would point to wobbling hedgehog syndrome but i’m afraid that the throwing up could mean something worse. With the quarantine going on, I’m assuming that most vets would be closed. I’m scared that my baby could die and I could’ve done something to prevent it.

    Hi, I am thinking about getting a hedgehog, my brother has a drum set and it can get quite loud the hedgehog will be kept in another room but is still a little loud. Do you think that the loud noise would stress out the hedgehog? Should I consider another pet?

    • @ellenstubblefield3662
      @ellenstubblefield3662 7 лет назад

      Service Dog Aspen. I think you might consider getting another pet. Hedgehogs are very skittish and unless there is some way to work out the noise issue. Not to crush your dreams or anything but for the happiness and safety of your hedgie your brothers drums might be a pretty large obstacle. There are lots of other pets. I'm sure you'll find the perfect pet for you 😊✌

    In the event that Pennsylvania legalizes hedgehogs or I move states, what's a way to find a reputable breeder? Are they often online somewhere? Do they have flyers or something? Finding dog breeders around here is usually done through PennsWoods or Facebook. Would I expect to see a reputable hedgehog breeder via their own online advertising?

    • @sanyarizvi7673

      I started by searching for breeders near me. I then branched out further away from my location until I found one that seemed good to me and had quality reviews from others in hedgehog groups.

    • @ToriLynnPPH
      @ToriLynnPPH  7 лет назад +3

      +Bruccade OWVG Most reputable breeders do have websites or at least Facebook sites for themselves usually! But some other things to look for would be pedigreed hedgehogs, a breeder who is transparent about their hog-room and the conditions the hogs are in, a breeder who will allow you to meet at their home/business. The hedgehogs should all have wheels and adequately sized cages/bins. Realistically they shouldn’t have too many hedgehogs either (some have 50+ which tends to put them into the breeding mill category).
      The best way I’ve found to find a good breeder is to join some of the large Facebook groups (Hedgehog Happenings and Hedgehogs Anonymous, as well as the Hedgehog Welfare Society) and ask for assistance in finding a breeder there! They have thousands of members that are usually incredibly honest about breeder quality.
