    The eye-snatch is such a great gimmick to finish off Elle because it's telegraphed about 10 times before it happens. Back in Part 1, we even see Beatrix snatch an eye out of one of the Crazy 88 and then the screen turns black and white, so we already know she has the skill to do it. The showdown in the hallway also zooms into both their eyes the entire time, almost taunting the audience like "this... this is her weakness, but did you pay attention to the Checkov's Gun back in the first half?" Of course, the Five Point Palm Exploding Heart Technique is also telegraphed ahead of time prior to the Pai Mei scenes too. Even Elle's murder of Budd is telegraphed because she seems to favor poison for assassinations. She was going to lethally inject Beatrix in her coma, and she ended up killing Budd with snake venom to cast suspicion on Beatrix rather than herself. A large part of why this non-sequential story works so well is due to the writing setting things up well in advance for each set piece or shock moment.

    The over the top sound effects and foot stuck in the crotch during her initial fight with pai mei was in homage to the shaw brothers martial arts films during the 70s (both films were)--specifically, a movie called Executioners From Shaolin, which featured Pai Mei (the white browed priest) as a villain who was virtually invincible and could actually (no joke) move his genitals internally from his crotch to his, ahem, head. And when the protagonist kicked him in the grapenuts, he could vacuum suck the guy's foot so it would get stuck and drag him on the ground before killing him. I kid you not. The training of the short-range punch and eating scenes were from another Shaw Brothers film called, Shaolin Martial Arts.

    David Carradine ('Bill') used to star in a TV series called 'Kung Fu' back in the 70's. He played a long flute in the series - as well as beating up various villains while also dishing out some philosophical words of wisdom - and when Tarantino found out that he still owned the flute, he asked David to bring it in and use it in the film.

    One of my greatest desires is for Tarantino to make a sequel, especially considering nearly the perfect amount of time has passed. Vernita Green's daughter and The Bride's daughter would be grown. Elle Driver didn't die, she just lost her eye. Sofie Fatale just lost her arm. There are more than enough working pieces in place for another film, and Tarantino's creative enough where it wouldn't just be a Kill The Bride movie.

      Poor sofie lost BOTH arms, remember?

    • @yourneighborhoodxenos
      @yourneighborhoodxenos 2 года назад +5

      While I totally endorse this idea, I do think it's very possible Elle Driver died out there. The trailer is far from anywhere and not on any identifiable road. There's an old phone, but that was more than likely misplaced and broken in the fight. The Bride took Elle's car, if I remember correctly, and Elle won't be able to navigate back anywhere blind. Not to forget, the Black Mamba that can and probably would bite the flailing or crawling Elle. The way I see it, The Bride buried Elle alive and blind, in a sense, like Bud did to The Bride quite literally, with the trailer and desert as her coffin and dirt. Obviously, she's a member of DVAS like The Bride and could have very well escaped, but I personally never considered her as alive by the end of all that.

    • @HarrisTheHeckler
      @HarrisTheHeckler 2 года назад +2

      @@yourneighborhoodxenos Absolutely. But the fact that we don't actually see her die makes it perfectly viable that she could have made it. Having her return in a potential sequel, highly motivated, as the only DVAS member still alive would create a better story in my opinion.

It makes you think Bea is about to easily and casually take Bud out so when he blasts her and is just casually walking around her it twists your expectations. That whole sequence from Bud getting home to her marching out of the graveyard is my favorite also. It feels like a horror movie vignette right in the middle of a Samurai Western.

    Actor Michael Parks played two roles in the Kill Bill film series, reprising the role of Earl McGraw (“you’d got to be a fool to shoot a pretty gal like that”) in the first film (2003) and playing pimp Esteban Vihaio (“I would just cut your face”) in the second film (2004). He again reprised the role of Earl McGraw in both segments of Grindhouse (2007), making his fourth appearance as the Texas Ranger. The two characters look so different from each other, so it takes a minute to see that it’s the same actor.

    I have to say, out of both movies, my favorite fight scene is the one with O-Ren. Maybe I'm looking too much into it, but out of ALLLLLL of the fights the Bride had, this one felt like it was the one she wanted the least. It felt like she was actually emotional just before, and after. The way she didn't really look at O-Ren after she killed her, and the way she plopped down on the bench. Yes, she was physiacally tired, but the look on her face? To me suggest a sadness. Had she been close friends with O-Ren? I've always thought so based on the dynamics of the to fighters, that was never seen again in any other fight.

    There was actually a guy who did exactly what the 'iron fist' training is supposed to simulate. His name was Pan Qing Fu. Growing up, he used to sell cigarettes on the street to support himself and his family. During that time, a popular form of challenge was a kid's game close to the western one of 'knuckles'. Where you take turns smashing the opponents knuckles with your own. He thought if his hand was tougher, he would win faster.
    So he started punching everything with his right hand constantly. He would walk down the street while punching buildings at first, then later in life he used to carry around a plate of steel. All day he would punch the bloody thing. By the time he got into his 30's, the bones in his hand and punching arm were 30% denser than the average human being and he claimed to never use more than 30% of his power. The cops even approached him as a possible training mentor in China since firearms weren't a huge issue in organized crime in that timeframe. He ended up catching a ridiculous amount of chinese mobsters while paired with the police force.
    He even went on to be in a few of the 90's kung fu flicks.

    If you ever wonder, the eye snatching move is an entire martial arts form called she quan or snake style kung fu. And yes, it is just as dangerous as the movie implies. You can do a lot more than snatch an eye out as most of the strikes focus in attacking the eyes with jabs to blind the opponent by rapidly and repetitive fast strikes, but those strikes are also used to target the throat, the diaphragm, lower abdominals, groin and other pressure on the body to inflict as much maximum internal damage as possible, mirroring snake venom and its effect on the central nervous system. I practice it myself and it can also be used to incorporate arm, leg, ankle and neck snapping grapples as well as various chokeholds and locks used to restrict an opponents movement and breathing. It’s honestly not an art to be used lightly and is strictly self defensive for that very reason as it can easily and permanently harm someone or in the worst case kill them. Very interesting art form if you ever care to look it up.
