I used to ask Santa for a horse every Christmas, and of course it never happened. When my husband and I moved to a small farm in Virginia my wish came true! I decided to foster horses for a rescue, giving undesirable horses a loving home. I asked a lot of questions, and did a lot of research. I loved every minute of it. They all ended up in good homes-one as a trail horse, one in a therapy program and the others returned to her owner after her cancer went into remission.

Laura, I remember your saying “I just want my home to feel like the place I would escape to. You wouldn’t desire a vacation because your oasis is your home.” This purchase makes that reality come to life. We subs are so happy for you. Your thanking everyone for supporting you was such a gift. You have to know that you are truly a gift to us. There is so much negativity when we turn on the tv. Your channel is a nice resting spot. You never talk about politics, war and all that business. Thank you!! We love you, Aaron, Benjamin, Samantha, your Mom, Dad and Monica. Your Mom and Dad truly raised you right. Love and prayers for continued health, wealth and happiness!!
Thank you to Aaron for sharing your sweet wife with RUclips. I think you knew we would love her as much as you do!! You’re right!! Thank you both for being the best role model parents. Wishing everyone a Happy 2024!! God bless!!🙏❤️🌸🇺🇸

    @My5ticBlu 11 месяцев назад +30

Congratulations on the new property!! As a horse person I wanted to give a few suggestions as you develop that area and the barn for horses.
    1. No Autumn Blaze Maples anywhere near the pasture. I love a red blazing maple in the fall just like you, however the red leaves are poisonous to horses. So plant a maple thats leaves go to a beautiful yellow in the fall instead. (Sorry for the bad news) Also any tree in the pasture area that horses can get to that have a Y trunk with the Y at or near head level, either get rid of that tree or cut off one of the two Y juncture. I had a friend who's horse got its head stuck in the Y and broke its neck when it panicked trying to get free.
    2. Don't get rid of the light posts around the basket ball area. You will want to keep those and relocate them to your arena area. If you or your kids end up riding competitively they/you will be riding at night and those lights will be a godsend.
    3. Pasture grass - plant a really good 3 way orchard grass and water it. You can harvest and bale that grass for your horses and not have to buy it on the open market. A good 3 way orchard grass per bale price right now is $25 to $30 a bale. Until you get horses, you can cut, bale and sell the bales at your parents garden center. Its extremely hard to find high quality 3 way orchard grass.
    4. Barn ... if the barn doesn't currently have electricity, put that on the project list. You will want ligts in the barn, the stalls and the paddocks. If the barn doesn't have rain gutters, put that on the project list too as well as a French Drain system to flow the water away from the barn/paddocks and out into the pasture. If the barn sits at the same level as the surrounding land you will also want to do some earth movement to have the barn and paddocks higher than the surrounding land otherwise your paddocks and barn area will be a big muddy swampy mess when the snow melts or after heavy rain storms. Stall, paddocks and barn isleway .... rubber stall matting, and a roof over the paddocks. Nothing sucks more than sholving horse poop in a paddock in the rain. Having a roof over the paddocks keeps them dry, and provides shade for the horses in the summer. Rubber matting in the paddocks and stalls makes cleaning them so much easier. Of course in the stall you will be laying bedding on the wall to wall rubber Matt's. Don't use straw ... use sawdust shavings or pelleted bedding. If there isn't water lines to the barn, add that to the project list. Nothing sucks more than dragging a hose to fill a bucket in a stall. Instead you can install automatic waterers. Carve out an area in the barn to build a feed room and a tack room.
    5. Wash rack - figure out a spot for your wash rack. That same spot can also be where you groom your horse and where your horse has appointments with the shoer and the vet.
    6. Horse trailer -- side load all the way. Don't get a straight load.
    7. Arena -- when you build it make sure the footing is done right. Also add in shredded rubber. It keeps the dust down and makes for great footing to work your horse on. Visit some horse facilities and talk to reputable companies that install arenas. A properly built area will be a worthy investment.
    8. Entrance Gates to the property are important to ensure that is the horse get loose they don't end up on the road after going down the driveway and it keeps anyone off the property who may want to steal your horses, tack, trailer, etc. I know you guys have talked about installing entrance gates for security. Definitely have them on the todo list.
    ❤❤

I stated watching your videos one winter while post partum with my second child. I had terrible depression and would lay in bed nursing her and watching your videos. I would stare my bedroom window, watching the seasons change. Come spring/summer I felt like myself again, like a Lil seed sprouting. That was 2017. These videos are so much more than just content to watch, they are hope.
I know I shouldn't expect anything or put pressure one you guys, but I really hope they don't ever stop. Even if they did, I'd probably just go backwards and watch thru old ones again. Each of them is so intentional and educational. But in the recent years, feeling apart of the Journey and watching the family grow, it is a highlight to my days. Thank you and happy new year

You are lucky. There is 28 acres behind our house. But its a forest. Part of our current acre there are a lot of trees that are attached to it. If I had youtube money I would buy it and cut down the trees. Iv only bought close to 600 plants but still working on my garden. We have been only in our new house for 3 years and had to take close 20 trees down , due to dying or weakness. That is the expansive part which is making my dream of big garden to slow.

Yes in Canada the red maple is lethal to a horse not even one leaf as my sisters has had several horses they do reining and help advising our grandsons the knowledge they had when the twins wanted horses as they have been reining for over 25 years ! So very aware of and had to send one horse to university of Guelph ontario vet school for large animals and saved one of the horses and found out out was the food supply as not regulated as well as human consumption! So much to be aware talk to local horses people they are so full knowledge like you Laura with your work you do ! But fun for a family to own and care for horses teaches young one responsibility! Well, thank you for my late Christmas present. 😊😂 I kept going over where the land was, and then you showed the tennis court. My heart started racing, and I got so dang excited! I am so happy for you and Aaron!! Now I have more land to sit and enjoy the views. (In my head) You and Aaron have a barn like Jason and Brooke at Cog Hill Farm. Well, theirs is a little bit bigger than yours. You need a donkey, emu, cows, ducks, geese, dogs, pigs, and goats. You already have the chickens. Benjamin and Samantha are going to love having all the land to explore 😊❤.

Samantha needs a miniature donkey, Benjamin & Aaron can race battery powered motor cars on the basketball court. And Laura can use the basketball court as a dance floor for her Fall Harvest party.

@@gardenanswer We also have horses, six at this time ,plus two little colts . We were married the same year you guys were and are approximately the same age as you guys . We also have two children, a boy and a girl, but we had them early in our marriage, so they are fifteen and sixteen . Most of the horses are our son's as he likes training them to ride and drive, for himself and other people . We moved to this property partially for his sake as we only had two acres where we were and this new property was set up to train race horses . I've been praying that you get that additional land to complete the lane back to your house. I am sooo happy for you. I was wondering if Aaron could give a detailed video on his thought process for deciding the infrastructure. I have a similar situation with raw land and am not sure where to begin. How do you decide where to put power outlets or where to trench. ect...

All of these successes that we are experiencing wouldn't be possible if I had not followed you since the beginning of my own journey. Just know that you are changing lives that you might not be aware of. Thank you for all the knowledge, Laura and Aaron. I am always excited whenever you guys do those big trees shopping. This so so true in so many simple ways! I have also been watching since the very early days at the townhouse! I have even discovered art from someone who sent Laura and her mom a very small painting. Carolina Elizabeth art. I couldn’t afford her paintings but I have snagged some prints. I also discovered Grace Rose farms from an unboxing video (I-sure miss those) turns out she lives near me and started selling rose bushes! I am lucky enough to have 5 of them in my own garden. My love and enjoyment from so many things your videos have shown especially succulents, fairy gardens, drying flowers, wreaths seed starting the lists goes on! I am so happy for you and Aaron. I feel like you are our friends! Congratulations and thank you for all the joy your videos have brought me! Especially when I was having a hard time! 💜 3:27 3:27

Aaron and Laura… I think taking basketball court lights out may not be the best idea. Having teen boys that loved playing with friends in the summer evenings was such great fun for them. I think Benjamin and Samantha Grace will love it too. Anyway just a thought from a mom that had her kids totally enjoyed lighted hoop time. And of course stopping at a reasonable time for the sake of the neighbors is exactly right.

I've been around horses 20+ years, just make sure whatever you plant in the pasture is safe for horses to eat. They have very sensitive stomachs and it could cause them to colic, twist their guts, and die. Super cool though!
