- I do not know if it’s any models before 23. I just know that my customer bought his in March of this year we were running the unit we were running his house just inside you know talking about a Generator schedule and all of a sudden his power turned off his generator power, turned off, and we were like what the heck as we walk out, we see smoke pouring out of the panel area where you have all of your outlets it’s not the side where your start button is and the choke it’s obviously the other side like I said where the outlets are tons of smoke for an hour we open it up and what do you see well exactly what’s in the video as you can see couple mistakes here number one the resistor that big that the brown cylinder thing with that post on the top of the post on the bottom that has a wire soldered onto it. Well, the posts were facing not the correct way to prevent any wire, chafing or rubbing up against it, and so you had that basically rubbing up against the wiring of the outlets, and then you had just outlet cable that was not secured enough, pressing against the resistor, leading to a short after it rubbed and made contact, we are in the process of contacting Generac the most you know they should definitely be taken care of this. It’s not a big big big failure in the sense of expensive parts but definitely something to keep an ion like I said this customer, bought his in March 1923 so if you’ve got a fairly new one if you haven’t use that much we found this out because we’re in Florida with hurricane season and so we were doing a test and you know it’s better to find out failure points before a hurricane rather than during a hurricane and I’m so yeah if you’ve got a new GP 17 or even a 15 KW Generac, portable generator I highly recommend doing a test run I highly recommend calling a certified dealer and having them look over to make sure that there is no possibilities of a short occurring from wires chafing against each other, and then shorting out
I called generac they came and looked at it they said they don’t fix gas units please help I’m a single mother of 3 and I try to fix my own stuff but this generator was too expensive to only had worked on start up I did everything by the book oil and gas , some guy came and charged me 200 up front told me it was the carburetor he took my money called me the next day said he couldn’t fix it that it was an electric issue
I appreciate you replying to me can you please help me out I feel like I got ripped off by generac I don’t understand how the generator only has .7 hours and it already went out I did pay someone to install it into my home also I never heard back where to find the serial numbers

What was the issue with it my generator has no spark when I unplug wire #18 it has spark and starts
Your low oil switch is bad
Causing #18 to ground itself. Shutting off spark
Omg thanks so much for the help I’m about to try it how can I try to see if it’s the oil switch ? Just unplug the wires to it? I took the control panel off myself but did not see any burnt wires or blown fuse I’m in Texas right now and it’s just me and my three little girls and I don’t know if you know but we had a winter storm and there is another coming

Mine is a 17500e generac looks the same i bought it only used it to start it and test it it has .7 hours on it when I tried to start it the other day before the storm it never started I paid a guy he came and looked at it told me it was the carb he charged me 200 up front called me the next day told me he could not fix it I am a single mother of 3 but I try to do what I can and I don’t have time to spend 4,000$ on generator I do know these were recalled?

Who found that wire 18 disconnected allows it to run?
I googled the model it says fire hazard that if you contact generac they send you parts and the wire 18 thing I also googled it and there was a forum but they never posted what was the solution so I tried it and it works with the wire off but when I try to turn off it won’t I have to put it on choke so it can turn off
Where can I find the serial and model number?
Otherwise it won’t start at all with the wire on
