In this video we're showing you how you can visit Samana, Dominican Republic without staying at an all inclusive resort! Specifically we're staying in the beautiful town of Las Terrenas, which is on the Samana Peninsula.
So many people visit the Dominican Republic and only stay on the resort and don't venture off the premises. However, there are loads of condos and apartments available all over the place in very safe neighbourhoods that you can rent for really great rates. There's also lots of fabulous restaurants and beach clubs.

We're staying for the winter in the Dominican Republic and we're showing you around our apartment here in Las Terrenas that we're staying at for a few days with our friend, @theendlessadventure. They give a tour of our apartment while we show you around the rest of the premises. This condo apartment also has a pool, spa, gym and restaurant and is just steps from the beach.

My husband and I stay at the be live in puerto plata two times a year except of course since the pandemic. You make it sound like staying at a resort you cannot have fun. We are not prisoners of this resort we eat out and explore the region all the time. We enjoy the people who work there and all the friends that we have made over the years. Also , there are many pluses to staying at a resort. I have watched you guys a few times now be negative about resorts. This time around we are paying $3200.00 Canadian for our three week stay. I think that is a bargain we get to visit a Caribbean country, eat, swim, lounge, and if we really want to we can leave the resort and go wherever and do whatever. Just had to get that off my chest. Hi Jayne. Thanks for your comment! 😀 We totally get the appeal of a resort and we stayed at one on this trip even. We're not saying they are bad but we've met so many folks who will not venture outside 'the walls'. The amount of messages we get asking questions about this is crazy. People in general are scared to do so. You clearly are not and that's great! That's how we'd do it too on a resort. That said, the point of the video is to show people the other side and how it's entirely possible (and safe) to travel this way - Trevor

You guys are so generous with your camera, allowing Eric and Allison take over the vlog for a while, even their logo for a mini-plug! I've never seen that before. I agree with your takes that I would rather not do all inclusive (unless their are security risks going out). I want to experience the local cuisine and culture, and patron the local businesses!

Love love the resort I go in the DR. Is about the amenities. You can not beat that. For under a month stay that is the way to go in my opinion. I still had plenty of experiences, still went to the grocery store and cook (we did not have all inclusive) as we had a unit with a kitchen. The private beaches and many many polls, activities, shows, all available to us were just amazing for the price paid.
Looks amazing! The ground hog saw his shadow, if you catch my drift. Anyway spring will be slow to move in. Makes one thing of fun in the sun. 🌞👍👍👍👍

I prefer doing Airbnb for Dominican Republic.
I’m staying in Samana for 5 days next month and Airbnb is always much better than a resort.
Although I did book a resort in las Terrenas las mr June and it was a blast.

While in Las Terrenas, you NEED TO GO to really good French bakery called Boulangerie Francaise, they have great coffee and the most amazing Croissants ever.

I’m so happy you guys are loving my country! My family is from a small town in Puerto Plata called Estero Hondo, you should definitely visit our playa! It’s called Playa Ensenada definitely eat at Elsa’s at the beach and visit Cayo Arena. It’s a small island in the ocean where you can swim with fishes.

Love you guys! I found you when you posted your first video on LT this place is amazing have been there many times prior to covid. Your videos make me home sick but I can't stop watching, someday I will return, hopefully in November. Will you be going to the actual town of Samana? Great beaches there too and our friends took us to this place where they make fresh cheese, yummy! Sorry wish I had more info on that for you. Thank you for sharing my "wannabelife" lol.

If You would like, You could take a boat at Samana to go to Sabana de la Mar. It's a small town but You can see Los Haitises or You could go to Playa Esmeralda at Mitches (very beutiful)

Las Terrenas. She will be building something this year. Going to finalize the purchase of the land and set up a schedule with her contractor. Been going there since 2011. Love it.

Would you offer your perspective on which sites, Cabarete or Las Terranes, would be better when considering...beach, restaurant selection and access, overall enjoyment, etc.

I should do a testimonial for you on insurance. The clinics there charged me about 15X what they would have charged a local. I also needed an emergency flight home,... the next day flight was almost $4000. So again... Insurance is extremely important. Other than that, Las Terrenas has the most amazing beaches I've ever seen.

Hi, can you say anything about the former Pueblo de los pescadores wich burned last year. In November 2021 there was only a destroyed place.......PS...my favorit beach is near of el Portillo, where the little river come out.........and I like your videos 👍👍.......when you go to Azúa you have to buy the coffee of Azúa.... it's at the end of Azúa

Hello. My hubby and I are in Las terranas now for a month at an air b&b. We have been doing the mototaxis so far. The food is pretty good on the beach. We are in the Playa Ballenas area. Have you ever used your insurance and do most p laces accept it? Enjoy your stay.
We were up that way tonight in LT. Thankfully we haven't had to use the insurance yet but yes.. a lot of places accept it. You can check out there site for all the details 😀 - Trevor

I am currently looking to book 10 days on the Samana Pininsula. I'm a backpacker at heart and so want to stay at a variety of guests' houses/lodges at different locations across the peninsula, but CANNOT find any affordable flights outside of booking an all-inclusive 😭. We will certainly send most of our time exploring off resort, but I feel like we will miss out on a lot of unique places with cool character.
Anyway, I'm so glad I stumbled onto your videos! And will definitely continue to follow you.
Any tips for catching buses, taxis, water taxis, etc., in the Las Galeras/ Terrenas area? Costs, logistics? We'd rather get dropped off /picked up at trailheads and beaches... then book tours, but maybe that's not an option or not actually the affordable option?

Im dominican and I was at cape breton last summer it took me 4 hours from halifax but the view I had over there was amazing

Went to boca chicka wala! All inclusive. The food and drink was fake. Not even the juice was real. Well dinner buffet had real food, the lunch of burgers was not beef, not sure what it is. I don't drink alcohol so can't comment but the juices and soda was fake. Didn't taste anything like the usa brands listed. I can't speak on breakfast since I only stayed lunch and dinner 1 day. Otherwise it's in a convenient location and clean.
I WISH I could spend months on vacation but until then I will have to stick with the AI's,...oh well, better than nothing!!!

Also...a criticism... at 15:28, please be advised, no one with a rudimentary understanding of the English language would ever refer to the Dominican Republic as "The Dominican."
To say "The Dominican" would be referring to a person who is Dominican. It's a misuse of English to call the country of the Dominican Republic "The Dominican". The same rule would apply to calling the United States "The United," as an example. Even though it's a somewhat common misusage by gringos, just please stop it.
And that pizza looked like absolute greasy trash. There is no good pizza in the DR that I've found so far...I'm waiting to be proven wrong. My first experiences with DR pizza included corn and ketchup in the 80's and not a lot has changed.
