I also adore plants. I'm absolutely addicted to succulents. And it means that I have hundreds of them. But not even single one I'm keeping inside the house. Couple years ago I had a tiny brain cactus and even that ended up in disaster of brown spots under the pot (no matter how careful I was with watering) and stupid little insects living around it. Seriously, I have no idea how you are doing this guys, how you are managing to keep all those plants inside.

Plants make people happy! Growing plants have actually helped me immensely stress, anxiety, and decreased my depression relapses. I’ve suffered from chronic depression ever since I was a young teen, and I’m sorry if it’s tacky to you! But I just love my plants!

Plants don't have to be tacky and those who think they are, need to stop and smell the roses every once in awhile : )
he meant the exaggerated amount. plants are and still will be a good decorative element in any home.
The thing is...plants are not decoration, they have needs of light, humidity, water and nutrients, and I hate when people treat them as a nice decorative piece and forget about taking care of them. Buy fake plants then, if you want something green in the dark corner of your room with small windows... If I have a room in my house with huge windows and tons of natural light, then I will stack my plants there, because the reason I have them is to nurture them, just like I would take care of a pet.
I get it, if you are into enterior design, you won't want a cluttered feeling, but I like nature, and plants, and taking care of them, so I will have tons of plants nicely arranged in the spot they feel best. :)
People who have an exaggerated amount of plants are most likely the ones who have them as a hobby and love the look of them. But I get where he comes from.
OMG, I laughed so hard. I am guilty of the two color thing. When you showed room in the video I thought "Uh-huh, get outta my two-toned parlor!" But you are right; my living room slightly resembles a medieval Ashley Furniture Rental showroom. Yes, my sofa is brown and has a slipcover. Okay, my living room is a tacky superfund site. Whoever designed it put in a ceiling fan with eight spotlights that could light up a runway at SeaTac; adding just a couple accent lamps would make the lighting so much more... gentle... until I can afford to have the ceiling fan ripped out and donated to a hospital operating room. Thanks for the tips while I sort out what is my style versus what is in style this year (week, decade, century).

Woah, this was a rollercoaster of emotion for me. I was thinking, “oh please, I hope I didn’t do any of it!”, “Phew, glad I didn’t do that” and “🤞🏼ok, what’s next 😖.” I was in the clear. I’m glad that some agree with me and that comfort comes first.

Please! Thank you! They are too random, too far apart and make no statement whatsoever. That fan is too small for that wall, and that light with the two pieces is dominating and oppressing that small sculpture. It looks like it is about to eat it. He has no sense of scale. He went from copying one well known designer to copying another one. What is worse is he doesn't understand the aesthetic of either one. He isn't trained in interior design and doesn't understand it. There is nothing wrong with a dark brown sofa. Miles Redd uses them all the time and Brian McCarthy has one on the cover of his latest book and it is gorgeous and way prettier than the gray one in the video. Of course Arvin actually said that Miles Redd and Brian McCarthy look "cheap" to him. Right and his Ikea curtains look luxurious. GarrettLeChic actually knows what he is doing and teaches universal principles.

Ok, I do adore you, but in my own opinion, I feel your space needs more decor. The two things above your sofa, seems out of place. I feel it is missing something, more color, or a statement piece above your couch.
I totally agree! Love Arvin but I do feel like something is missing.
They seem like they're random, floating pieces. He needs something to tie them together. Kinda like the concept of a floor rug anchoring pieces of furniture.

My 2 cents on slip covers. I gave a large canvas drop cloth a bleach treatment and tucked it over an old sofa in my teen son's game room and added some new throw pillows and am loving it. I wasn't buying a new sofa for him and after searching slipcovers online I found some lovely modern minimal linen ones (over budget) and this drop cloth hack.
YES TO THE FAMILY PHOTOS. 1 or 2 are okay, but some people have a full blown album on their walls.
Absolves my guilt for NOT having family photos everywhere! I have ONE gallery wall and no photos anywhere else. Thought I was a bad parent--who knew I was just stylish?! :)

My SIL has family photos in the loo 🤔 never thought about it too much, but yeah, that's weird.
It ends up being distracting and no one even appreciates the better photos in the mix. Maybe a gallery wall that is a little more art and a few treasured family photos.

Also if you like a specific colour, a good way to blend it nicely is to select colour samples from the paint store (the ones with four or so colours, in a gradient) and choose decor accents that match a different one, so you have alot of green but it's a gradient throughout the room.
The different level of lights is a good eye tip. Helps guide people around to different talking points. Thanks for the tip!

Arvin, you’re the best. My significant other and have opposing views about family photos (I don’t want any-looks cheap and cluttered) as well as what belongs on the coffee table (very little IMO). It’s an ongoing battle between having a messy and cluttered space (him) and a minimalist approach (me). I have given up on many fronts because in the end it’s not worth the fights. 🤷🏼♀️
Hey Arvin! So I have to use my parents old dark brown couch when moving to my first apartment. I know you said not to use them but if you have to how would you style it? Maybe you could make a video explaining how to make things that usually don't look good, work.
Check out Brian McCarthy and Miles Redd, lots of other comments have mentioned them as designers who use brown couches often with great success. Hope that helps. :)
