When you consider that carrying wasn't allowed at all in their era, Mr. Cousy was also a kind of Kyrie of his day, in terms of dribbling. He would split defenders and do what was then some of the fanciest basketball-handling around.
He just carelessly chucks it without looking and it always goes right to his teammates hands this dude had insane peripheral vision and hand eye coordination
I am 80 and have watched and enjoyed the NBA since the early 1950s. Cousy was my favorite player during his career. He was a great player who changed the game forever with his exciting style of play. I remember reading that Cousy practiced widening his field of vision and had incredible peripheral vision as a result. He would be just as good today. Imo.
Houdini of the Hardwood! Still going strong in his 90s, may he reach the centennial mark and continue to tell the newer generation of the glory days of basketball's past

Juan Lemus Hey! Hope you’re doing good! I upload great nba content! Can you hit me with a sub and stay active? I will appreciate it alot! Thanks! God bless!🙏🏼
This was a good portion of why they won so many championships. It looks like they were a great passing team, much like the 1986 Celtics. A few good shooters, who can all pass well, and a defensive giant, like Russell, plus good ball handling, and team first mentality, and you have got IT.
Cousy could have scored more points but he preferred to pass to a teammate who was in a better position to score. He had an accurate one hand shot and could drive to the basket. He could shoot, pass and bribble with either hand. Truly a great one.
You're right, they had to dribble the top of the ball so it looks way different than it does today but Cousy's biggest advantage was his superhuman peripheral vision.
People always think the players they know from their own generation are the best ever. I'm glad RUclips exists so that people can see players like Bob Cousy, Oscar Robertson, Bill Russell, Wilt Chamberlain and others of an earlier NBA. Yes, those players in their prime would be stars in any generation. The proof is in watching them play.

So true. There was VERY little criticism of MJ while he was playing. Esp after Bulls were winning year after yr. It has all (mostly) come after he retired and from those who never saw him play.
I always find it astonishing just how innovate and creative the original greats were. Like, they didn't really have anyone to base their game off of. They just had to develop that shit through sheer creativity.

Actually dunking was greatly discouraged it wasn’t socially acceptable, the coach would bench you and the other team would deliberately try to hurt you. Just ask Jim Pollard, 6’4” and could dunk from the free throw line.
People are laughing at the guy who falls over at 0:33, but it wasn't that bad of a play on his part. Obviously he got crossed and fell over, which is embarrassing, but he was playing Cousy to go back, which he faked like he was going to, and was going to where he thought the ball would be to make a steal and couldn't recover and get back. He was also playing in Converse All-Stars, which aren't the best shoes for quick movement and were probably part of the reason.
@@HankFinkle11 Wilt pointed this out after he retired. He said "players aren't better. Conditions are better!" Not that some of each isn't true, but he makes a great point of how one leads to the other. Better floors, lighting in arenas, shoes lead to better play.

I went to a Bob Cousy summer basketball camp in 1973. Amazing teacher, especially in coaching intensive defense.
Put some respeck on Cousy name. And he only dribbled like that because they called palming back then, check dudes hands out they are huge for a PG
