    I only saw his last game on RUclips. 18 points and a ton of assists. Every pass he threw landed in perfect position. Nobody had to bend or jump to catch his passes. Clearly, he was slow compared to Jerry West but you could see his brainpower. Today, there is so much space. In his day, passes were in or through the paint. No room for errors.

Most athletic player of all time = Wilt Chamberlain. Smartest, best defensive player of all time = Bill Russell. Best 3 point shooter of all time = Stephan Curry. I've always instinctly been a 'guru' of not just sports but 'sports history.'
    I've long, long had the opinion that you can't really compare eras in any sport...because of 'societal influences'......and I've long had the opinion......dthat the best players of all sports of many decades ago were just as good as the best of today's athletes, even if in some ways they don't 'look' like they are on film.
    Case in point: If modern athletes were born in or grew up many decades ago, instead of today....they wouldn't have been any better athletically or otherwise than old school athletes. Conversely, I'm convinced that if Bob Cousy or many very old and aging athletes, who are old school......were born in modern times.....that due to societal influences they would be just as good in every conceivable way today......as the best athletes of today.......

    J.J. meant that in Cousy's day, many players had to have other jobs to supplement their income, jobs like plumbers and firemen, etc. They didn't have the infrastructure, training science, and medical care that are a HUGE advantage to the skill and performance levels of todays players. Few people can read anymore, much less listen with any degree of critical comprehension, their perspectives jellied by emotions. Mr. Cousy, one of the true greats who I idolized as a kid, got his information indirectly (as he stated himself) from overly zealous, third-party sources looking to inflate their own dubious media value. Sad ... and not a little pathetic.

      Nevermind what the nimrods say, you are correct. Cousy was absolutely misinformed about what JJ actually said, much less meant by what he said.
      Cousy twice refers to JJ as having said players in his era "played like firemen and electricians."
      That is not at all what JJ had said. As you point out, JJ said players in that era were not making millions like they do today, many of them had to find other work in the off season. I am certain that if Cousy were informed of what JJ actually said, he would validate that indeed he knew players who supplemented their income by working as firemen, plumbers and electricians.
      The whole controversy over what JJ said was so stupidly blown out of proportion. Lucky for him that the Lakers decision-makers chose not to pay attention, or buy into, the false narrative and misrepresentations.

    • @Obiahjones
      @Obiahjones 28 дней назад +5

      @@scott8xxx532it wasn’t blown out proportion, it was said in a snide condescending manner which showed little respect for those players, much of Reddicks observations are made based on having watched the games on video and his comments are both condescending and needlessly aimed at people who aren’t always able to to garner a pulpit in response, when they interview people that were there they almost categorically argue the opposing point to him.

    Cousy was a key player, not a role player, on 6 championships, by the Celtics. Whatever his reason for shading players from that era, Cousy, in particular, Reddick was being just a plain, ignorant, I had better not say, what. I have heard, in videos on youtube, Reddick is head coach of the Lakers. If that is correct, what is the NBA coming to? What are The Lakers coming to? That might be a better question.

    Today’s basketball is a product of its own history. Nobody invented any move without seeing someone else do it first, either in practice or on the play ground. It’s moving in the wrong direction, too many turnovers, bad shots, poor rebounding, too rough, bad ball handling ( carrying the ball and traveling).

  • @wpl8275
    @wpl8275 Месяц назад

    He’s part of the original pioneer stock of basketball and you need to honor them. Because they created the modern game. They made it possible. A lot of conspiracy nuts claim Wilt didn’t score 100 points because there is no footage of the game. First, not all games were televised. Second, it was played in Hershey, PA as a promotion for the NBA because it wasn’t extremely popular back then. Those guys made it popular. Gave it a chance to survive so some 19 year old kid could make 30 million sitting on a bench.

I think Bob needs to be more effective in how he ranks players ..... his era is not the only one ...... The 1980s gave us greats like Magic, M.J. & many more .... all of these knew - some admitted BIRD WAS THE BEST PLAYER.

    Apples and Oranges. Rule changes, enforcement of existing rules, and of course three pointers. Then there's systemic racism; what it was versus what it is. Still, if you look at the Celtics of 2024 compared to the six championship team Couse played on, there is clear evidence the nucleus of a dominant team haven't changed that much. The 2024 role players are no different than the in the past. It's about TEAM. If I want FLUFF, I watch the boring contests on NBA all star weekend, (which I haven't done in decades). Sad Hall of Famers have to listen to this crap. Nobody shit on Willie Mays, Joe Montana, etc. so what's up with this crap.
