I have only once before seen what Cooz did in early moments, stop a dribble and leave the bounce for Heinson to grab while he (Cooz) threw a fake no ball pass to deflect attention. Cooz changed the nature of his position.
This is priceless. Where is the defense guys??!! LOL. Just kidding. That's definitely one of the areas of the game that developed over the years. Cousy was brilliant! The crowd was LIT. haha
I dunno if it was just the era but I've heard it said that the Celtics players not named Bill Russell, KC Jones and Tom Sanders were considered poor defenders and basically relied a lot on Bill to clean up mistakes
In this video we see Bill Russell block definitely 5 and possibly 6 shots in less than a quarter of the game played. If they had kept track of blocks in those years, Russell would have totals that could never be reached again. His play showed how defense could be used as a winning weapon. He changed the game forever from a purely offense emphasized game to a offense-defense game.
I think you have to understand the way the rules of the game were enforced back then to appreciate why they dribble the way they do. They would call palming/carrying/traveling on almost every dribbler in today's game. Also, because they weren't allowed to palm/carry/travel like they are in today's game, it limited their moves, explosivesness, etc. Shooting form is similar to modern players outside of a few exceptions, most notably Cousy.
17:17 great block from West, he was only 6'3" but close to 7-foot wingspan and looks like at least 35 inch vertical

#44 on the Lakers was a helluva player. Not sure how he found time between shifts as a plumber to in so many reps, but that jumper was perfect.
Excellent Footage 🍷 I’ll keep watching thank you sir
Yo this is an amazing video

Jerry West, the NBA logo.
Celtics had so many HOFs they could only play 5 at a time.

Yes, his highlights from this game are on the channel, and his block numbers are tracked in it. I believe he had 8 blocks in this game.
Cousy was the goat tho
Shooting form is goofy. They are all awkward as heck. And they dribble like they just learn how.
But they certainly got the job done didn't they. Have some respect youngster, you could never have competed with these guys.

Oh, and Russell's free throw form is pretty ugly. 😂
Also, have you ever played basketball in Chuck Taylor's? It will definitely slow you down. 😂
