Another YTer, JK Ninja, explained that the best pirate ship has LOW hit points, and thus the Discoverer is the best. Combine that with high shield/low hull damage weapons and the target has a lot of time to consider leaving or fighting to their death, usually resulting in them bailing out.
I do use a Aux XL ship as a mobile pirate base. Once a ship us down you can send Marines over from your mobile headquarters. Then use it to repair them and sell or add to ones fleet. If you loose a bunch of pirated ships its no biggy. But earlier on i do use L class trade ships as home base. Few fighters and large cargo storage. Targeting stations for those drop all inventory runs. Stock pile expensive items sold.in large amounts.
... never mind the small stuff. If you can afford it - go XL. An Atlas is your perfect raider Base. Fast travel, huge shields and it can hold a small fleet of S + M in any configuration that suits your target. Reload and Repairs included and last but most important - you can put 200 4* Marines on that ship. ☠️😁
Actually, for boarding L-class destroyers with a frigate (Falx, Cobra), you do not necessarily have to use the fly-by method. Just park the frigate in a blind spot (front for Behemoth and Phoenix, back for Ody E), have the turrets set to disabled or missile defence, release the marines and boost away. Makes the boarding mechanism a bit more realistic and less cheaty for me.
As for the best ship - I just use my Nemesis/Kuraokami with bolt repeaters.... because I like the sound and visual effects of the machine gun fire. :)))))))
Hello! For early boarding Ls I use 3-4 M traders, depending on target. Later I use 1xL trader and frequently boarding other L traders or builders in free/sca sectors (Silent Witness XI) for money and ships.
What about combination of a small ship with a couple traders to haul your boarding parties? Super cheap, and much easier to get the traders via pirating to start with, and with multiple ships you can have as many troops as you need. Downside is you have to take out the engines in a small ship....
I use a small flotilla of M ships to go after larger targets. Mostly Minotaur Raiders - they are cheap to outfit, carry 15 marines each, and if I lose one it's pretty easy to replace them. But I've also got a Dragon, Gorgon, and a couple of other odd ships in the mix too.
I like to use a single frigate with two pulse lasers and two dumb fires, then like 4-6 ides with plasma turrets full of marines for taking an L or XL ship. Use dumb fires to take out all turrets, then let all plasma turrets take care of shields and hull while my pulse turrets prevent recharge.
Shuyaku is just broken. Fly by ter pioconstruction ships with 225 weak Marines and make 30-40M. I don't allow myself to do this anymore it's damn near an exploit. My process is to keep the freighter on follow for a target. I teleport in and do the fly by, give back control a safe distance away, order it to dock, Board complete transfer all but one marine back to freighter, order the constructor stripped, reload the marines in dock, go follow new target.
For boarding I use a „Pulsa Vanguard“ with six Thermal Desintegrator MK2 they bypass the Shields. I can destroy every turrent and the engines in a few seconds and bring the hull very quick to under 90 % because the boarding goes much quicker when the hull is at this point. In the back I have a L class trader a Shuyaku Vanguard with 225 marines for the boarding part. ;)
I am surprised that the Moreya wasn't mentioned. I feel it outperforms most S class ships in terms of firepower, speed and agility. It can iirc also hold 3 marines. If you train your marines, those 3 can be used to board understaffed L ships. If you don't mind microing your wingmen, you can assign 4 Moreyas to follow you and board L ships with 15 marines.
I use the Moreya early on. It's fast so it does the job. The problem is that it has 4,000 hull. So it actually takes quite a bit longer to get bailers. I've had a few instances where medium ship crews just wouldn't bail at all at times. So that's why I'd say that even though the Moreya does work, it's not the "best" because the lesser hull ships can strafe better, have 2k-3k hull, making bailers happen more often
@@braize6279 I'd like to add, after playing with Moreya a lot more, the mass of this ship is really high. When taking tight turns you drift quite a bit longer with the Moreya than with other S class ships. I still like it alot, though.
For capping L and XL, just take 1 size smaller and pop engines, then all surface elements. Shoot down shields fully and hull to 50 percent, then switch to a single laser turret and have it shoot repeatedly until all crew and marines have fled off the target ship, leaving only the captain. Can board with 2 or 3 marines then with zero losses. If the target crew has high morale you may have to shoot hull to 20 percent, and very rarely under 5 percent. If you risk destroying, stop shooting constantly and only shoot to keep hull under 5 percent, while giving crew time to repair a bit. Checks for fleeing happen every 30 seconds, so you want to make sure you have shot at least once every 30 seconds.
I mainly use just one Plasma/H. Missile Nemesis, and I "harass" the destroyer's crew to bailout down to the pilot. It takes between 15-60 mins depending on how the target is staffed (# of marines & level). By the end, one pilot is easy pickings for the 8 marines the Nemesis can carry! I usually have an AUX ship nearby to do cheap repairs before they go to the station to sell or refit. Freighters & carriers are a different monster because of the said high crew capacity, then I duet the Nemesis with a Shakuya Freighter. Carriers are a bit harder because of the raw shield regen, and usually need a destroyer for an easier acquisition. I've taken a carrier with a Nemesis, but it was a very long battle, and needed to destroy a couple of shield generators to drop the regen rate. Note: I'm so close to the target during combat that taking out the turrets for the boarding team is useless, and I send them in with 100% of the ship intact (minus the shield/hull HP for the bail mechanic). They slip right past the turrets, if you're in a good position!
Barbarossa is also quite the nice ship for boarding especially in the early/mid game. Decent firepower even though it has no frontal weapons, has 126 crewmembers, is really fast for its size and also has a relatively good maneuverability. Hitbox is kind of large though can get annoying occasionally...in short best ship to get yourself a Syn. Special mention goes to Zeus E (Super fast, Crew 143) not cheap though.
Hello, do you have a video on setting up to play as a pirate for new players with the ToA DLC? Story plots to run first and choices? How to use the PHQ for piracy? What system to build in? A good small group of ships to aim for~ troop carrier, cargo hauler, player ship, loadouts if we don't want to be a company many with huge fleets and stations? Your pirate ship is using a rapid fire shooter? I only have the MK2 pulse lasers, am I doing it wrong? I have capped a couple of Scale Phoenix and using those for carrying marines. I am 9 hours in game.
My s Class for Capturing is Argon Discoverer. Then, I use a Katana to disable Greenplate destroyers then 2 Buccaneer transports (12 soldiers each) to capture it. Yeasterday I used a Boa (20 soldiers) to capture a Split Buffalo (59 Soldiers) Then I used the Buffalo to get Pionner Kyushu, Honshu and 2 Osaka. (no destruction of element) I think I may change career for piracy !

Nice method 👍 going to try that by chance
Hello! For early boarding Ls I use 3-4 M traders, depending on target. Later I use 1xL trader and frequently boarding other L traders or builders in free/sca sectors (Silent Witness XI) for money and ships.
Use an S fighter to capture the M trader. Then use the M Trader to capture the L Trader.
And then capture the best trader, the XL one 😜 hey amenditman! 👋
Ive captured everything from S to L military ships. Would like to see pirate XL's as an option

Perfectly viable tactic for the early game. I'd even say it is a logical step in the progression to becoming a feared pirate captain.

Shuyaku Vanguard is my favorite. More marines than even the Syn, and easy to buy a few without even needing and faction licenses.
True, but the collision box is huge for fly-by boarding approach.

If you are a capable pilot, the discoverer is the best due how pilot NPC bailing works in this game. But you have to be prepared to die a lot 😆
haha, yeah true... but you can also learn some skills that will be completely useless once your flying destroyers :D

pirating for cargo? really? is there any point to pirate for cargo instead of pirating for ships?
If you restrict yourself to pirating only, yes. If you play the game the most efficient way, not caring about RP then no.
