    He lost his only daughter on her age of 6, which was a tremendous shock and pain for him, and he semi-retired for many years. This song was written for his daughter, you saw the whole grassland, the vast blue sky, the hordes of sheep, he and his family, it was the HEAVEN. While the pain brought him back from memories, that is when you hear his grawling voice pierce your soul, the emotions flood into your heart. The last Mongolian lyrics means let nature take its course, with his sadness and helpness. I think that is why many people cannot help crying when hearing this song. Tengri is a true master.

    Thanks for reacting to this performance! I loved your reaction!
    Tengri is a national treasure and legend from Inner Mongolia, which is an autonomous region of China, geographically just below Mongolia. This song is from his 1997 album. The majority of the lyrics are in Mandarin and the line at the very end is in Mongolian. The song is about his love for his home, Ordos, and depicts it as a heaven for him.

    Now you understand that no matter how good Jessie j and Kz are, and we get surprised when they rank low at times, you see the other performers in this show and you'd say "all is fair and square."
    Goosebumps for days for this Tengri performance.

      @irurouni 6 лет назад +30

      Yep. Finally! You're the first commentator I saw who make this point. By and large I see many praises for JJ and KZ, which is fantastic, but I also feel did not take into (fair) consideration the other singers. Everyone in the show (in every year) are professionals and to not be eliminated, each are at their professional best and whose quality of singing are comparable regardless of nationality.

    • @nanyanguo1
      @nanyanguo1 6 лет назад +6

      even if singers are from different genres or generations , it is still discernible whose performance is greater. Music literates and experts will evaluate on the songs complexity , singers mastery of techniques, vocals , emotional quotients , presentation and sensory appeal etc . To music illiterates , guess they will just go by their feelings and accustomed tastes.

    • @thechowlover
      @thechowlover 6 лет назад +7

      Yes they differ when it comes to genres. But we have to agree we're looking at them as artists and not just singers and gauge them on how they affected us.
      Besides if you watch other shows like this, the voice or American idol for example, contestants there are not confined in one genre. So how do we judge them? It's the impact they make and not about one being an apple and other orange.
      They are all singing. It's not as if one is singing and the other is painting. Then that's when you say it's orange vs. Apple. 🙂

      hannah mae sytangco Thank you SO MUCH for your words, truly. As a Chinese audience, it's sad to see people arguing and saying the Chinese audience are being BIASED while they only appreciate music they are familiar with, sang by Jessie and KZ. This is letting me down lately. Although I love them both, but it is very sad to see such comments towards SINGER and us Chinese audience. This is a show full of artists and they ALL deserve respect, instead of " if xx doesn't win, it's not fair" - saying this is not fair to other singers that many loved and the Chinese types of music. Thank you again for your comment, it made me feel much better.

    • @nanyanguo1
      @nanyanguo1 6 лет назад +3

      14MB no need to be sad. Those nasty comments mainly come from the loser's own commnunity. Only them are so work up over a competition not jus for The Singer but for other competition shows eg AGT whenever one of their own is taking part. Always thinking theirs is the best and go running down the greater talents in front of their eyes to make theirs look good and blame everything when theirs are ranked low or eliminated. Other commnunities in the world not like that. Eg Shila Amzah's community . She didnt do well in the I am a Singer [now called The Singer] . Her community knew her rivals were formidable talents .so their general attitude is its fair and square..

    Tennger wrote this song about his village in Mongolia. He released his first album in 1986. They have been trying to get him on Singer for the past 4 years and he kept saying no. All of his songs are dedicated to Mongolia. He is big on environment and is helping reclaim and replant the forests in Mongolia. He is considered a national treasure in China. He was funny after he heard Jessie J sing. He looked at his music partner and asked if he could leave. He always wears traditional Mongolian clothes. It is wonderful to see Western people appreciating music like this. Check out his other performances. He did his version of a rock song and took first place for that episode. Keep up the reactions.

    This is why I love watching "Singer". This is a sharing of top talent rather than the rival "competition" everyone is accustomed to thinking a gathering of talent is. Being invited to sing on "Singer" is a very high honor, not to prove themselves. The proof is they are there. Awesome feedback!

    • @nanyanguo1
      @nanyanguo1 6 лет назад +9

      Big D - the competition part is jus marketing strategy. To add more buzz , excitement and thrills to the show as everyone would be rooting for their favourites , nervously waiting for the results and even go internet arguing for and againt who is better n all that . All these noises will in turn generate more interest and attract more viewers who would otherwise not have heard about the show . And that is good as more music lovers can then come to learn and enjoy the many splendid music and talented singers other than those they have been accustomed to all their lives.

      I'll add to anyanguo1. The elimination also serves as a way to introduce more different singers to the audience. There is a time limit to the TV program that we cannot just have everyone performing at a time, and the elimination kind of give a reason for singers that was not in the "start list" to join. Of course, everyone would like to listen to more performance of the singers s/he likes, and that 500 people who vote would not represent everyone's opinion.

    Tengri sang his own song, Heaven, the song he composed with the lyrics he wrote about his homeland many years ago. He dedicated this song to his daughter who passed away at a very young age. In a way, heaven is where he thinks his daughter is now. Also, heaven is where the home is. We could feel and marvel at the ways he varied his vocal performance through dynamics of valleys and peaks, interchanging between weak and strong phonic energy, and catch and release of vocals to take us on a journey to witness the different elements of his homeland - a combination of majestic nature and loving families. Also, his emotion and pain were so deep from within him, which burst out to impact the entire audience no doubt. The lyrics were rather simple and short, and easy to remember, but sometimes you don't have to say a lot to mean a lot.

    OK some comments since many people are not familiar with Mr. Tengger and Mongol music:
    1. His name is Tengger - a Mongol name. The word is pronounced as "tengger" but spelled as "tengri" in traditional Mongol script. And it means "sky", or "sky god". Look up "tengrism" and you will have a good idea about the word. And yes, it is the same word and meaning used in Turkish-speaking world as well
    2. Mr. Tengger is a renowned Mongol singer from Ordos, Inner Mongolia. He is highly respected in both Inner Mongolia and Mongolia. He has released multiple albums and you can find them online if you know where to look
    3. The cello-like instrument is a Mongol instrument called "Morin Khuur". Google the word for more info
    4. The sound the Morin-khuur players make from their mouth/throat is called "Khoomei", or "throat singing", or "overtone singing". It is a popular form of music in Mongolia, Tuva and other parts of central Asia
    5. He composed both the music and lyric of the song. Below is my attempt at translation - i know there is an "official" translation but that one did not capture the original lyric
    6. "bayarlala" is the Mongol word for "thank you"
    Bluest blue sky,
    Clearest clear lake,
    Greenest green pasture,
    That is my home.
    Horses galloping,
    Sheep as white as snow,
    And you, my girl,
    That is my home.
    I love you, my home,
    My home, my heaven.
    I love you, my home,
    My home, my heaven.

    Oh my, your reaction really shows that music is mutually intelligible even though the song is sung in a language that you don't understand. Yes, the lyrics of this song is about nature: the blue sky, limpid lake, green grassland, galloping horses and crowds of white sheep. This is a song about his love for his homeland Inner Mongolia (an autonomous region of China). Heaven is the most representative and renowned among his songs. Most Chinese people know this song. I have listened to this song many many times since childhood, but I could only understand it better now. Tengri's ethnicity is Mongolian. In your video here, at 5:34 and 6:12, Tengri was singing in Mongolian. In the beginning of this performance, the instrument that the two men were playing is called a horsehead fiddle, which is a traditional Mongolian instrument.

    Teng Ger Er is his name, which should be three syllables as "təŋ“ ”gə“ ”ər“ when you say it. He is a singer from Inner Mongolia in China and he is a mongolian. HEAVEN is a song he wrote in 1997 when he was 37 years old, and HEAVEN refers to the grassland of his hometown in Inner Mongolia. But the show in this video happened in 2018, that was 8 years after his 6-year old daughter died of some kind of congenital disease. So i think his feelings in this singing must be different from the earlier's, which might mix the love for his hometown and his little daughter, and that's why many female listeners are deeper moved by this version than male listeners. The last sentence of this song is mongolian language which means " Just follow the will of nature and time" , but i think he must not want to. He just wants his daughter could be back.

    Tengri was my favorite singer in the 2018 singer, it was a shame he did not win but he left a lot of respect and admiration on my part and I assure him from the competitors and for those who saw all his performances. China has to value it because he is a great singer and a person to care about the environment where he lives.

    The two men at the beginning were doing overtone singing, Tengri is from Inner Mongolia, and overtone singing is a very Mongolian thing. And it's his own song. The instrument they were playing is a Mongolian instrument as well, it's call Ma Tou Qin (horse head string instrument). The ending he was singing in Mongolian.

    I felt like this song needs a bit explanation/ translation from Chinese in order for the English viewer to have a better understand. I hope my comment would help.
    First, a bit about the singer, Tengger, he is a Mongolian Chinese, and currently a rock/folk singer. He sung this song in his prime many years before, check that out if you are interested, and you can definitely tell that his voice was much more wild, full with nomadic-type characteristic. In this video, he is really like aged, and he is trying to express this song in a much more mild and loving way.
    Next, about the song and lyric. This song is about a nomadic person singing about missing and loving his hometown. The lyric is repeating the same block and very simple straightforward. I roughly translate the lyric below in Chinese and English. Please ignore my poor translation, and only focus on the sentiments it trying to convey.
    蓝蓝的天空:Oh the blue sky,
    清清的湖水:the crystal clear lake water,
    绿绿的草原:the beautiful green and endless prairie,
    这是我的家:this is my home
    奔驰的骏马:the galloping stallion
    洁白的羊群:the undefiled flock of sheep
    还有你姑娘:and you, my girl
    这是我的家: this is my home
    我爱你,我的家:I love you, my home
    我的家,我的天堂:my home, and my heaven
    我爱你,我的家:I love you, my home
    我的家,我的天堂:my home, and my paradise
    I'm a minority race in China, and my family is from a branch of the Mongolian Chinese. Personally I can really related with this song, and to me the beauty of this song is beyond language to describe it.

    Great reaction from you! Tengri (Teng-ger) not only connects emotionally with his audience but he has a unique vocal technique. I don't know if you noticed how he forms his mouth, seemingly smiling while singing, with his mouth almost closed but still making a sound. Also, the way he is able to control the volume and intensity of his sound, from low tone to a loud crescendo, and back and forth, releasing then pulling back, releasing then pulling back. That was awesome! I enjoyed your analysis and all your comments. Very exhaustive!

    I love this song! FYI, he was singing about his hometown, the sky the landscape, the river, it's heaven. There's so much emotions to this song and his vocal complements it so well. Every time I listen to this song, it paints a picture and I could feel his love towards his hometown, his passion. I believe this is his original and the song came out over 10 years ago.

    That thing he does where you don't know when a note or syllable started and ended, that amazes me and of course the passion and everything in the performance. Majestic in a very eclectic and exotic way. And the control! Wow! You guys should also react to Hua Chenyu's "I don't Care" and also his "Nunchucks" (from the same show). These two will also blow your minds despite "language barrier" the music just transcends everything I'm sure you'll enjoy. And yeah Tengri brought us to the Himalayas lol. Amazeballs

    I'm so excited and happy you finally reacted to Tengger!!! I mean KZ was what drew me to Singer 2018 because of how viral her participation was (I'm a Filipina who lives in a cave and isn't up to date with these things and just decided to check out who this KZ was one day), but Tengger gave me another push to watch entire episodes.
    It was actually really cute that he had been invited to join previous seasons of Singer but declined thinking he wouldn't keep up with the flashy costumes and hairstyles and tastes of today. But yes, that's his specialty, molding his voice like a musical instrument!!!
    P.S. M-Angel is so en pointe with her vocal impersonations!!!

    What you watched in the first time is without English translation subtitles. The song literally describes his home----greenish grassland, crystal blue sky, running horses and snow-white sheep, as his heaven.. His voice is vividly illustrating and representing all the views to us. SO MUCH LOVE TO HIM.

    Hi guys, I just watched (pronounced as )Teng-ger-er’s performance and your reaction video. I really appreciate both. He is nationally Chinese and ethnically Mongolian and grew up in Nomadic life-style with wild horses and sheep in wide pastures. During the pre-performance interview, he told of his sadness that his homeland / nature has been destroyed and defaced. And how in his own effort, he’s been growing one tree at a time. He said that this song expressed his longing for his homeland just like heaven. At the climax, he was “screaming” out his deep love for his home.
    The beginning part was a type of traditional Mongolian voicing. At the end, if you listened carefully, you can hear the 2-stringed Morin Khuur/Er-Hu make neighing sounds of horses.
    I really love this type of ethnic music. I love that as non-Chinese, you guys appreciated the uniqueness, professionalism and difficulty of this performance. Cute that you guys were stunned into silence.
