    Much better call than Michael Kay because he knew it was gone off the bat. Kay hesitated, paused, and didn’t give his traditional “see ya” call. He was very unsure. Great Job John!

      No substance. Just noise.

      @@benuerz153 I think Ted might be wondering when Maris was jolly? He was given such a hard time by MLB and by Yankee fans, who wanted Mantle to break the record, that he often looked stressed out and was. Perhaps Sterling has invented a new nickname for him that he would have used had he been calling Yankee home runs in 1961.

      Matthew's reply was a bit terse. Jeff Nelson was filling in for her, and no, she wasn't eating kippers somewhere. She was celebrating Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement, the holiest day on the Jewish calendar. She must feel terrible about missing the broadcast, but it shows her devotion to her religion.

    • @gnirolnamlerf593
      @gnirolnamlerf593 Год назад

      This guy... Aaron Judge or John Sterling? Seems to me that Aaron Judge represents the team. John Sterling represents WFAN, his employers. The putative replacement for Sterling in more and more games next year is Brendan Burke, who has done a good job in the games where he has filled in this year. Ricky Ricardo (not _that_ Ricky Ricardo) know his baseball, but he is too loud. While it is good to know how to pronounce Hispanic players' names correctly, it sounds like this is his primary goal as a baseball announcer, who when he sits in for Sterling, is doing the games in English. Ryan Ruocco is awful at play by play. His strength is in discussing the game and analyzing it, at least for baseball. Maybe he's great at basketball play by play. I don't know.
      If Sterling decides to retire, and there would be good reasons for him to do so after this season, which has been more exciting than recent Yankee seasons, I'm with Burke, though I will miss the silly Sterling home run calls. It's like watching Laurel and Hardy or the Three Stooges over and over again, knowing what jokes are coming ("David John makes long gone," etc.) and still anticipating them and chuckling at them when they arrive.
      What I don't understand about the comment above, though, is what was so horrible and embarrassing about _this_ call? FD superstar didn't explain, just gave his opinion. As a result, I have no idea why I or anyone else should agree with it. I thought Sterling provided excitement for the radio audience, and I listened to the game on the radio live before watching this rather irrelevant but amusing video, since he is a radio, not a TV broadcaster.
