"It's easy" is only true for someone who is familiar with these kinds of scanners. For a beginner the Bearcat is devilishly complicated. Suggestion: explain what "All channels locked" means when you first turn it on. It would save several hours trying to understand the manual and doing research on the Web. I am a skilled aviator. It's easy. For me : -)
This was my 1st scanner back in 2014. It was easy to program (for me). Still got it. Been boxed up for 5 years. Fired it up, but all police channels I had gone encrypted (as of 2016 I read).
I think you either have to plug the scanner into a PC and get it programmed with at least a few bands of frequencies, or run the Service scans and get some going that way,
or else it will just say all locked. Although I don't think running Service Scan will save the frequencies permanently, just have them available while the radio is on.

I own this exact type! I’ve had it since 2014 (used average 4-8 times per month) and it’s still a great scanner!
Cool! I've had the BCD325P2 for about 3 or 4 years and it's an amazing scanner but all the paint on the buttons is worn off.

What do you have to do to get tones from a siren
I am looking at a uniden bearcat BC 125 80 handheld scanner now is it a plug and play or do you have to program the stations in there because to my understanding I'm getting mine from Amazon and again the young lady Amazon said there's a couple pre-programmed stations in there is that correct

it diddnt look like you put the PL tones in it. wouldnt it be better if you did / . less static.
Does this unit have the ability to also broadcast information? I’ve probably phrased this incorrectly, but here’s the deal: I want a scanner radio that is cheap, capable of scanning most frequencies, and can also send messages. For example, I want to use this unit to listen to railroad radio, but it would be excellent if it could double as a CB radio, so that I can transmit and listen on there. I know it is capable of listening to CB, but I want to transmit too.
It is a scanner only. No transmit.

What does that small C mean on the right hand side?
It's the close call mode. It allows the scanner to pick up nearby transmissions without having to program it directly.
Funny thing is I was about to get this scanner, but instead I went with the BaoFeng UV-5R V2+ because it was cheaper. Works great tho.
does the baofeng scan like this one does? im debating between the two as well
@@skpsr44 Not really, from what I've read, you have to really program the BaoFeng before using it for scanning. The best way is to hook it up to a PC,
and get all your frequencies and tags and program it fully before using it. Programming the HAM radio manually is kind of annoying.

Quick question, I am a plane spotter, I am not sure if you can listen to air traffic control frequencies on this scanner.
I just ordered the 300 channel Uniden Bearcat handheld: I've gathered that it has aviation band scan built-in, but I was also told that you may not get much
if you aren't hooking it up to a good, high external antenna, and/or aren't close to airports and such. You should still get some air traffic, though, by default, at least
some pass-over.

Listen please. Don't kill the messenger. I don't say any of this to "better than" anyone else. I only list my credentials so that you'll take my comments from a professional point of view. I edit TV commercials for a living and have been for 30 years. If you're going to make a "video" about a product demonstration, block it out! Have an outline. Follow a script. Choose your shots. Decide what content you want to feature. Basically, map out the project! I'm looking at this video to teach me about the device you're featuring, and I've learned nothing. Because you're "bored" one day, please don't just pick up a camera and hit record. Where's the opening graphic to describe what I'm going to see and learn? Not there. Do really need to watch you take the device out of the box? 11 minutes of nothing. How do you turn it on? What do the buttons do? What are "Banks"? How do you use the software? Please think of your project the way you would want it explained to you. You never just roll camera and start. You shoot shots. You write a script. You have a set. You edit together the pieces in an organized fashion. Sorry SPC. I don't mean to make you feel bad. That's not my intention. It's to try and teach you how to make a better program. Just because you have a cameraphone doesn't make you a producer. Sit down and ask yourself, "what do I want to convey to my audience?" Spend an afternoon mapping out or "blocking" your shots. Do I need to waste my time watching you put the batteries in the device? Again, I'm not trying to make you feel bad. I'm trying to get you to think like an educator. When you watched this back before you posted it, did you actually think, "wow.I did I good job with this! People are going to watch my channel because they learned so much from this video".
You can do a better job. You just need to work on your skills, and thank you for your effort.

This is literally the 10th video I have watched like this and it’s the same exact song and dance. The instruction manual is worthless and so is every single video I’ve come across thus far.
