I am real happy with this new Uniden BC125AT.After watching this video I sold my BC75XLT and ordered this scanner($100.99) From Amazon..It took me about 10 minutes to program and learn how to use it.The best t hing about this scanner is you can name your channels to what you want.Thank You monitoringreviews. .
Good job, thank you. You just sold another unit. My favorite section was when you explained the NIMH/Alkaline switch and casually mentioned setting it correctly so that the batteries don't explode. I imagined people who were unfamiliar with the difference in batteries saying, "Wait...what?" and replaying it. That's my strange sense of humor at work. I'm glad I found your review.
Thank you for a thorough and well-paced review. After listening to your comments I purchased one from Amazon. Haven't had the opportunity to put it through the paces yet; however, watching you discuss the features made some of the instructions in the online manual more understandable. I appreciate the time you took to record and upload this. Many thanks!
Thank you for the review. I bought one of these off Amazon about a month ago, and wow am I impressed with it. It’s easily the best receiving and sounding analog only scanner I own. I find myself reaching for it before any other I own, and it always goes with me in the car. I will definitely be getting another when the time comes.
For the money, this scanner rocks. It would be a great bug out or emergency receiver. it will tune in all 40 CB channels. It's also the cheapest scanner I've seen the receives the 225.0 to 380.0 MHz AM military air bands.
Yes you can. Do a search ( BC125AT specs ) and check under Power Requirements. Plug included USB cable into computer or buy a universal ac adapter with USB input (UNIVERSAL-USB-AC-POWER). Simple, Enjoy, this is a great scanner!
Very thorough review. Covers all the basics of scanner. Really one of the better reviews I have seen in a long time for scanners and ham radio equipment. Thanks.
Great review, now proud owner on the basis of this post of a UBC126AT. New Zealand pricing a lot dearer than net prices May 2018 but well worth the local support.
Just picked up one refurbished from Amazon for $68, great deal. I had a Radio Shack PRO34 for many years and it just crashed, probably the capacitators which wear out over time. The PRO34 had 800 MHZ - 1000MHZ though and this one stops at 500MHZ if I am not mistaken.
Yes, it still works with the light off. Tap the power button to turn the light on. Tap it to turn it off. You can also press the function button then the power/light button and it brings up a menu. Turn light always on, always off, on with squelch, on with key press, or on with key press + squelch.
@Mert Ulusoy You probably have Priority or Close Call activated which is causing a break in the audio every few seconds. To check the Priority simply press the Func button then the 1 key. The Priority menu will appear. Select either Priority DND (Do Not Disturb) or Priority Off. Next press Func then Hold. Press E while Close Call Mode is selected. Either choose Close Call DND or Close Call Off. See if that fixes your problem.
Great review, buddy. Just ordered mine with the Diamond antenna you mentioned. As a first video review you did a great job. My only criticism would be the low lighting. Video is very dark and would benefit from some ambient lighting. Otherwise, thanks for covering all the bases. You sold me.
Actually you can, A direct quote from the manual - "three Power options - let you power the scanner using the included two AA rechargeable or alkaline batteries or the supplied USB cable." So any of those cheep 110 VAC to USB chargers you can get for your cell phone or android will power this thing.
I am hearing more on this scanner then I am on my desktop scanner and I don't use a magnetic antenna. 5 stars all around best thing ever. I highly recommend it to everyone.
No scanner can legally receive encrypted transmissions. However there are several that will receive digital transmissions. The PSR-800 and the Uniden Home Patrol scanners will both receive digital transmissions and allow you to select your area for automatic programming (so you don't have to program the scanner.)
I have this scanner. It's great for everything I wanted except for listening to Fire and Police Depts. All the Public Safety agencies in my town went to a trunked system a week after I got it.
Howdy! I've been looking at this scanner along with the bc75xlt for a while and haven't found much difference between the two, but both seem to be excellent scanners. I've been an airband listener for years now and looking for another good reliable scanner is key. Thanks for your informal video!
Is this a good air band scanner with the stock antenna? I am thinking about getting this to monitoring Tampa airport and military aircraft. Aircraft fly over my place going to Tampa and Clearwater St Petersburg airports which is 35 miles from me.
Much more coverage on the new BC-125 XLT, & a slight variation on the key button functions like no WX ( 3 ) function, it has been replaced for step function, on key ( 9 ) button mode function has been added, coverage is 25-88, 108-174, 225-512, 806-960 MHz.
I believe that was the stock antenna. However, I am currently using the Diamond RH77CA. It is an excellent VHF and Airband antenna. I picked it up from Universal-Radio for about $20.
what is the frequency range I need to be able to scan military aircraft frequencies including 121.5 MHz and 243.0 MHz the frequencies used for locating downed aircraft. Also 128.25 and 123.75 witch are the frequencies of the airport my search and rescue Squadron flies from. I am an aircrewman in the Civil Air Patrol and not a radio operator but I would like to be able to listen if I'm off the aircraft when something's going on.
Monitoring Reviews, I have this above scanner but cannot get it to the max. charge time for 2,700 Mah batteries that I just purchased. Any suggestions?
Can you program this for a certain channel? I'm looking for something that will only pick up fire department calls in my area. I don't want something that picks up police and ems at the same time
Own 2 of them. One works great. The screen went blank on the other one. All connections are intact, just glows orange. Contacted Uniden and they wont sell you just the screen. They tell you to send it in and for $75 they can test it. I don't think so Tim. I've owned several mobile and base Uniden scanners. I'm done with Uniden!

I need little help! How can I setup AUTOSTORE function (I want to left it for a few hours on Searching and I want it to autoremember channels in memory) - my UBC3300XLT has this option.
I’ve had one of these for three years to replace my RS Pro74 that died. This BC125AT is the most frustrating thing to use , near impossible to program or change bands without a programming cable and a PC. I miss the Radio Shack
actually yes you can, you need to by the adapter from usb to ac located at scannerworld , once there look on the left, find acceseries, find ac adapters, click that, its the 2nd to last listing.
ok, did you use the USB cord and program it using your computer? I had some difficulty with that part of the initial set up. I had to go to Uniden site and download the software for it.
I enjoyed you video. I just got one of these. It came with 2300 nimh batteries. I have charged them in the scanner off and on totalling over 24 hours and it still shows charging, and not charge complete. The scanner is off by the way. How long does it take to get a full charge? Thanks.
That shows the battery voltage. The higher the number the more battery charge that is left. The lower, the less charge that is left. It doesn't go to 0. I think around 2.48 the low battery alarm will begin to sound.
GuyVelella I'm not sure what walkie talkie you have but this is a radio scanner. It scans at a fast rate. It is used to listen to public safety, aircraft, rail roads, etc. This radio has 500 channels that you can store. It cannot transmit like a walkie talkie, only receive. Hope that helps.
Diamond RH77CA is an awesome antenna but it's designed for the 2 meter and 440 ham radio bands. Using it, I get into repeaters running one watt where with the stock antenna I need the full 5 watts with my handheld. It is also very popular with scanner enthusiasts, I'm not sure why you are having such poor performance with it. Perhaps you are listening to stations outside of the normal VHF and UHF bands. I would imagine that the stock antenna would be be better under 100 MHz.
I purchased on yesterday. When I turned it on, the display read HOLD and L/O. Every time I tried to do something, the display read ALL CHANNELS LOCKED. I tried the instructions in the manual "Unlock all Channels in Banks Currently Enabled for Scan 1. Press Hold to stop scanning. 2. Press and hold L/O until Confirm Unlock All Channels? appears in the display. 3. Press Pgm/E to unlock all or. Clr to cancel." I tried this SEVERAL times, and it did not unlock the channels. After several hours, I brought it back to the store and they couldn't help. I returned it. How do you unlock the channels?
monitoringreviews I tried that. I was able to program ONE channel. I still got ALL CHANNELS LOCKED on the screen when I tried to program anything else, INCLUDING the Weather Channel. The unlocking procedure published in the manual did not work.
Pete Michaels Did you try to press, Func, then E (Pgm). Scroll down and select Unlock All Ch? Also make sure your banks are selected. Pressing the number keys while it is in scan mode turns on/off the banks. If you programmed the frequency into the first bank, pressing 1 will toggle it on/off.
Okay, so about 6 months after I had the scanner, it stopped working. I have another analog scanner and it picks up the same frequencies just fine. The only thing I can pick up on the scanner is the weather channel. I have tried three different antennas, and other various things, but nothing works. I am attempting to pick up VHF frequencies in the 160 to 162 range. I can be standing right next to the transmitter and nothing will pick up. Forums have shown no luck.
Hi I know you did this review many years ago, I hope you can answer my question. I’m looking for something to scan railroads, at this time I do have a Uniden SDS100 that I’m using. I know you have both scanners also, is the reception any better on the 125 for the rail and air band than the SDS100 in your opinion? Many reviewers complain about poor reception on the 100 Vhf and the air band do you agree? I do have the antenna from Diamond that you mention in your review! I got the 100 because my area switched to Simulcast P25 P2 and very happy with it 😊 Thanks for all your great scanner reviews, any idea what May becoming our way next?
If the rail you want to monitor is analog, the 125 will receive circles around the 100. The 125 is one of the best scanners I have ever had. It would pick up signals when others wouldn’t. It is analog only though.
Follow up, I put some rail frequencies in to the scanner and thought what do I put in the other 450 channels. So I added 30 or so Air band frequencies like 124.125 Boston Center I haven’t paid much attention to this band for over 25 years, well just letting you know I’m hooked again, this scanner is everything you said it is and it fits in my pocket something the SDS100 doesn’t do. I’m very satisfied with the BC125AT performance. Thanks for the reviews.
Two questions for you. 1) When the scanner is connected to the PC, am I able to listen to it from my headsets? 2) Is there a way to turn off the noises when pressing the buttons?
Just bought one on ebay for $116 shipped. I used to work at ZME ARTCC (Memphis Air Route Traffic Control Center) and recognized the sector names coming up on the screen. Did you have to input the info tags associated with the frequencies? I noticed they are pretty detailed. For instance ZME44 PBF-H (ZME=Memphis Center, 44=Sector Number, PBF=Pine Bluff, H=High Sector).
Just making sure , This unit has capabilities to pick up the new narrow channels that all the police and fire departments are required to go to by 2013 ?
Thanks for the great review, I just ordered this scanner based on your review. Can you tell me how to get all the Freqs for my rural area here in Missouri that I can monitor? I don't know where to find them
truesonic yep, you can upgrade the antenna. I like the Diamond RH77CA. It's a little long, but works great for VHF and UHF. www.universal-radio.com/catalog/scanants/2368.html
Just received this for a xmas gift and having some difficulty. I'm not getting anything to come in after programming multiple frequencies on open channels. This is my first scanner and I need to know if I'm doing something wrong,
Without knowing your area or frequencies I wouldn't have a way of knowing if it is programmed correctly. Go to radioreference.com in the forums and ask about the programming under your states forum.

+William Jackson, yes I will review the BCD325P2 as well as the 996P2
Great review. Best handheld rail and air band scanner out there for the money.
I agree

AWESOME!!! Thanks for letting me know

You can’t use alpha tags on the 75. I would absolutely hands down get this one over the 75XLT
absolutely. Headphone jack is on the top between the antenna connector and VFO knob.
Just got one for my birthday. My old one was a RadioShack and the speaker started to go so it was time for an upgrade.
Nice birthday gift for sure!!
I just got one recently. I really like it, so far!
They are great little low end scanners!
Does this scanner have a "rail" feature where you can automatically scan all the railroad frequecies without additional programming?

I just got the digital one
Should arrive in next few days

dang, digital is so crisp and clear
No noise behind the transmission

Monitoring Reviews, I have this above scanner but cannot get it to the max. charge time for 2,700 Mah batteries that I just purchased. Any suggestions?
I think the scanner just charges a set time then stops. I use a MAHA charger for my batteries.
You mentioned the mini-usb charger, so you could use this in a vehicle hooked up to the cigarette lighter?
Yes
Hey I've got a question I hope someone can help me... which one is better The Uniden BC125AT or the Uniden BC75XLT?
Absolutely the BC125AT!
i have a dual trunking scanner. whats the difference between dual trunking and tipple. and why do they call it trunking?
Can you program this for a certain channel? I'm looking for something that will only pick up fire department calls in my area. I don't want something that picks up police and ems at the same time

The BC125AT doesn't have an auto store function.
I’ve had one of these for three years to replace my RS Pro74 that died. This BC125AT is the most frustrating thing to use , near impossible to program or change bands without a programming cable and a PC. I miss the Radio Shack

Question can u buy 2 of these n use as two way radios. Also how far will they work
Is there a good handheld scanner that accepts 800 frequencies?
And the scanner still functions with it off, correct? Or do you have to turn off the entire unit
Hi buddy, Tks for that video. Can you tell us if it works with airband?regards

Thank you! Yes there is. It is a free download from Uniden here: info.uniden.com/UnidenMan4/BC125AT
I'm thinking of buying this scanner. Is there one that might be better than this one in today's Market?
I enjoyed you video. I just got one of these. It came with 2300 nimh batteries. I have charged them in the scanner off and on totalling over 24 hours and it still shows charging, and not charge complete. The scanner is off by the way. How long does it take to get a full charge? Thanks.
That shows the battery voltage. The higher the number the more battery charge that is left. The lower, the less charge that is left. It doesn't go to 0. I think around 2.48 the low battery alarm will begin to sound.
Whats the difference between that and the walkie talkie I have which goes up to 30 channels? are they all compatible?
GuyVelella I'm not sure what walkie talkie you have but this is a radio scanner. It scans at a fast rate. It is used to listen to public safety, aircraft, rail roads, etc. This radio has 500 channels that you can store. It cannot transmit like a walkie talkie, only receive. Hope that helps.
Can you shut the light off on the scanner or is it always glowing? Such a battery drainer.
Perhaps you are listening to stations outside of the normal VHF and UHF bands. monitoringreviews I tried that. I was able to program ONE channel. I still got ALL CHANNELS LOCKED on the screen when I tried to program anything else, INCLUDING the Weather Channel. The unlocking procedure published in the manual did not work.

Pete Michaels Also, did you see this video Programming Your BC125AT it may help you out.

Probably the BC325P2 or the SDS100
Okay, so about 6 months after I had the scanner, it stopped working. I have another analog scanner and it picks up the same frequencies just fine. The only thing I can pick up on the scanner is the weather channel. I have tried three different antennas, and other various things, but nothing works. I am attempting to pick up VHF frequencies in the 160 to 162 range. I can be standing right next to the transmitter and nothing will pick up. Forums have shown no luck.
Alabama Nick I'm not sure what is going on. You may want to contact Uniden Customer support. It may be a hardware failure.
Hope this is not a daft question but would this pick up commas between military & tower calls (etc Middlenhall lakenheath etc etc ) many thanks
If they are analog and less than 512 MHz it should.
Will you be doing a review of the new BCD325P2 ?
Have one of these scanners in UK, works great, question though is the power on/off button slightly lower than the others, can't see on video
Did you program any channels? Does the search function work?
Can you run this unit with an AC adapter, instead of going through batteries as I want to use it as a home base also?
Can someone tell me what the 2.54 number means at 1:13 . I have been wondering what it means?

2) Is there a way to turn off the noises when pressing the buttons?
Yes you can turn off key beeps. No you can’t listen thru computer
@@monitoringreviews Damn, thanks.
@@monitoringreviews hi can u use two of this scanners as walkie talkies or two way radios and communicate , and also how far will they reach
@@SuAmigoElilegal These scanners are receivers only. They have no transmit capability.
Thinking of getting one of these soon, I do have an UBC 780 as base
It is a nice scanner for sure.
@monitoringreviews Awesome thank you for the response
can you chose the frquince that you want just to search like 140 to 155 ? for example
great review thanks.
Thank you
How do i find my saved channels, like a directory?
I have a uniden police scanner and the batteries die in one minute. Why is that?
Is the BC125AT the same size as the BC75XLT? I'm looking at this to replace my deceased Pro70.
I am fairly certain that they are. If they aren't the difference would be minimal.
So why should I get one? Listen in on police? Trains?
can you put any double aa in it
Just making sure , This unit has capabilities to pick up the new narrow channels that all the police and fire departments are required to go to by 2013 ?
I am not having luck programming mine. Is their anyone I can speak to over the phone to help me?
Thanks! How are you liking the radio so far?
Thanks for the great review, I just ordered this scanner based on your review. Can you tell me how to get all the Freqs for my rural area here in Missouri that I can monitor? I don't know where to find them
Check the database at radioreference.com
How do you enter a narrow band frequency? Trying to enter 155.6175 keeps rounding up.
truesonic yep, you can upgrade the antenna. I like the Diamond RH77CA. It's a little long, but works great for VHF and UHF. www.universal-radio.com/catalog/scanants/2368.html
Can It support NAC and P25 and all that?
Just received this for a xmas gift and having some difficulty. I'm not getting anything to come in after programming multiple frequencies on open channels. This is my first scanner and I need to know if I'm doing something wrong,
Without knowing your area or frequencies I wouldn't have a way of knowing if it is programmed correctly. Go to radioreference.com in the forums and ask about the programming under your states forum.
Just want to make sure before I buy this. This can pick up air band right? Also what is the range on this radio?
Yes it can . Sorry for the late reply
Excellent review
Thanks
Thank you
