Funny thing about Vic Caputo, the anchor for KOLD in this clip: just four years before, he ran for a Detroit area US House seat. Before coming to Tucson, he had been a reporter for WJBK in Detroit for a number of years. He left WJBK in 1980 to run for Congress, but lost his bid.

This election is a high water mark for conservative politics.

You could make the argument that the high watermark for conservatism was in the 1920s with the landslide elections of Warren Harding, Calvin Coolidge, and Herbert Hoover.

2:52:58 I was a freshman at college watching this in the dorm lobby on the tv. When Rather showed the blinking blue dot which was Washington DC being the only win for Mondale, my friends and I laughed our asses off. We were all in our early twenties, didn't know anything, and totally bewitched by Reagan by then.
Of course, it didn't help that the Democrats ran a candidate who was so weak but that's what the Dems did back then. The people they chose as candidates had a good message but the messengers were sub par.
The only exception was Geraldine Ferraro.

Too bad that the only times that a woman has been on the ticket (once for the Dems, once for the GOP) was mainly just move the needle a little bit since they knew they were screwed.
