Thank you so much for posting these videos, President Nixon is so wise, thoughtful, and candid in his remarks.., I hope the Nixon foundation knows they’re enhancing his legacy with their clever yt shorts, and these archival interviews.
Seriously, his Foundation has a good team. They've been really good at enhancing Nixon's legacy and showing us that Nixon was a much more intelligent and complex man then he has ever been credit for.
The boon to history that these videos will give is incalculable. He is so classy and will provide such knowledge to people ingorant of these events, it's incredible that this wasn't uploaded before.
President Nixon was a great president who loved America. He was wronged. Thank you to the foundation for providing these great historical moments and thoughts of President Nixon ❤🇺🇸❤️🇺🇸❤️🇺🇸
How was he wronged? He clearly was involved in the cover-up. He also, by his own words in the watergate tapes , was likely guilty of conspiracy to pervert the course of justice. He also was involved in me nasty goings on in Chile and Vietnam. He wasn't wronged. If anything, he escaped without consequences after been pardoned by Ford.
These all or nothing assessments of Richard Nixon bother me; simplistic and naive- He was enormously talented, especially as a Machiavellian politician who took accurate measure of his adversaries. This stood him in good stead crafting foreign policies- He was also deeply flawed, and often had little insight into himself. He could be venal, vindictive, even measurably evil- He used the Vietnam War to win an election- he privately intervened to stall peace processes until he could take over- He elongated that war, a war he knew was unwinnable, costing thousands perhaps millions of lives…. To protect his power base, he was willing to break the law, break the trust of his citizens, and ignore Constitutional rights and protections, which he gave his solemn word to defend- There is a very complicated man here, capable of a wide range, many times a contradictory range of personas. Surely we are mature enough to try and see Nixon in some thoughtful perspective-
I’ll second that. CIA took him out, too. He was one of our greatest presidents ever. And thank you to the foundation for making these publicly available in a world far too opaque.
His understanding of geostrategy, military science, foreign relations, diplomacy and geopolitics aka international politics and the practise of international relations, including Great Power Summits, was second to none.
Unfortunately the audio quality is not very good :( but this man knows how to resonate and how to explain issues in an unsurpassed way. I'm used to listening to him for hours and hours. 😊
If not for watergate I think Nixon would of gone down as one of our best. But his personal demons and personal hate for opponents got in the way. He was a foreign policy genius
His bitterness, paranoia, and watergate crimes are well known. He was also personally corrupt and even sold organized crime access to the White House. A well-read and intelligent man on the topic of world affairs, but deeply corrupted and devoid of ethics.
Amazing how incredibly important Nixon was. His insights about the world. I was a young kid during his presidency. I love history. & remember when. But as I’m old now. Watching old videos & interviews amazing what insight he has
Look up the history of how he conspired with Henry Kissinger and Anna Chennault to steal the 1968 election and double the amount of US war dead in Vietnam, such amazing insight!
Unfortunately, my first voting experience was the Bush Gore mess. Nixon was before my time, yet the more I watch and listen, the more I long for this past time. Always dignified, always classy, always, always thinking. I long for a time when leaders were elected based on their competency rather than a cult of personality or simply something such as race or gender.
I'm 25 years old. All I really ever heard about Nixon was Watergate, and all I remember from my high school American History class was his debate with Kennedy. Gotta say I really appreciate you guys putting all of this on here. My eyes have been opening to the world and especially this country since 2019 when I started opening up to Trump, and what better way to form an opinion on Nixon than from the man himself? God bless America
Well the world the world world other than korrupt Murica wiahes IT could Close ITS eyes to Trump. So cringe. Embarrassibg for humanity. Nixon would have hated hom as every other Presidentbwho knows him does.
I stand in awe of this man. And he’s spot on as to why the typical intellectuals and the more left wing media hated him… he was able to challenge them with intelligence and persuasion. Self important sanctimonious arrogance hates being exposed. He exposed them. Nixon’s legacy grows every day while so many of his media enemies are mere historical abstracts.
1:13:47, In fairness to President Nixon, that is true. The press of the 1950's and 1960's CHANGED in the 19'70's with television and more technology and all the rest. Kennedy didn't experience it. Johnson started to feel a little of it towards the end of his term. If you put Kennedy & Johnson in the White House using the "rules" of the 50's & 60"s they would have probably suffered the same fate as Nixon. The one thing I wonder about for Nixon is if Johnson was alive during Watergate, Nixon could have probably called him and made a deal to shut down the investigations. Someone needs to write a book about the relationship between Lyndon Johnson and Richard Nixon. They were political adversaries but they BOTH respected one another, even though they took political swipes at one another they always paid attention to what the other was doing. It's fascinating! They both worked hard from the ground up to become President💯
Back then, a politician could hold *himself* accountable. Nixon's resignation was something imposed on him, but he took control of his exit from office and took care of it, himself. He held himself accountable, however he may have felt about doing it before others took the choice away from him. Best wishes from Vermont 🍁
The story he told about a democrat friend hearing Dan Quayle speak was hilarious. The guy said I thought he was a moron until I heard him speak. He did really well. 😂
Nixon was ahead of his time. Just look up some of his policies, progressive in some traditional in others. And he was a Republican. I'm 60 now Democrat to the grave but if I would have been old enough to vote then I would have voted for him.
"Did you use the IRS to hurt your enemies?" - "No, I used it to level the playfield". - "Oh yeah that sounds very much different thank you Mr. Nixon you're a statesman Mr. Nixon take my daughter Mr. Nixon" → How the comment section in this video sounds like.
A brilliant man and a friend of Pakistan. Also, he strongly disliked Ms Gandhi, because his views about her aggressiveness against Pakistan are recorded in a conversation with Kissinger. Those tapes are now uploaded on RUclips. Pakistan was a signatory of the Baghdad Pact, CENTO and SEATO before the 71 war with India took off.
Time heals all wounds. However, I absolutely cannot agree with people that think Richard Nixon was a great President. He most certainly did some great things, and some very forward thinking things as President. Nonetheless, he was a criminal. Had he served prison time like he should have, I don't think some of the subsequent criminal behavior that has taken place in the White House would have been so easily done and definitely so easily overlooked.
The contrast between this eminently learned and conversant man with immediate command of a myriad of facts and positions with the idiotic name-calling pablum that passes for political discourse today is striking and depressing. We have fallen so incredibly far.
Interesting interview. While strategically I do support the China initiative (Although Richard Milhous Nixon seems to discount it here.) I think he puts too much stock into the value of it. After it became clear the Chinese were not willing to democratise (Unlike Taiwan which is a democracy now in 2024.) the World should have adopted a similar position that they took to the soviet-union. This was what was happening with Chile and South-Africa so why not China? His predictions were actually reasonable in 1990 so I cut him slack but I do wonder about détente although he is correct that America did not lose territory to communism. On the other hand his contribution of summits does somewhat make up for it, perfected by subsequent Republican administrations perhaps, since I am an anti-communist but not suicidal. Recognising China whilst it was stimulating the genocidal forces he mentions (Although America had nothing to do with it and actively fought to ensure a communist Cambodia would not happen.) is very myopic.

The boon to history that these videos will give is incalculable. He is so classy and will provide such knowledge to people ingorant of these events, it's incredible that this wasn't uploaded before.
Intelligent, informed, and strategic. A fascinating life and personality. Endlessly entertaining & vibrant!
I am 65 and Nixon was the best President during my lifetime - so far. No other even comes close.
Everything is so divided. That who ever is in nothing will get done.
President Nixon was a great president who loved America. He was wronged. Thank you to the foundation for providing these great historical moments and thoughts of President Nixon ❤🇺🇸❤️🇺🇸❤️🇺🇸

President Nixon was such a classy guy!!

Classically corrupt
@MrGuzmanra If you call being to loyal to your men being corrupt then I guess so
@@chuckydall9250 He was not loyal, they went to jail, and he did not. Then they never talked again, not loyal.
I find his post-presidential interviews fascinating

Never knew Kondracke interviewed him. Both greats in their respective arenas.
Golden footage im always so glad to come across a new interview

A very interesting interview. Insightful, reflective and understandable.
If not for watergate I think Nixon would of gone down as one of our best. But his personal demons and personal hate for opponents got in the way. He was a foreign policy genius
I wonder what Nixon would think of 45 today…..
Completely agree
He was set up
Micheal Corleone said. "Never hate your enemies. It clouds your judgement."

Sure could use Nixon now. His intelligence and insight is beyond most DC pols of today
Someone once said of Nixon, he was the last president to read books !
Clinton could read a book. Hold a staff meeting And be in a conference call simultaneously. Like him or not he was a smart guy.

What a contrast between President Nixon and our leaders today
a great American and master politician .
Say what you want about Nixon but what cannot be denied is that he was a brilliant critical thinker and a genius at common sense logistics.
Clear, eloquent, wise, knowledgable, smart - Nixon was all and more. Great!
You just gonna use the Theo von thumbnail format lol. Nice

A great statemen. He was incredibly thoughtful and in his own way amicable.
A classic interview👍. A better quality audio track would make it perfect!
I feel we need a president like Nixon , now more than ever, intelligent, articulate and a rigid backbone
1:08:19, This is the type of answer that gets Nixon in trouble!🤣😂This riles people up💯
Puerile questions as the interviewer goes on. But good for what is essentially a documentary. He never interrupts.
Nixon could not live without politics any more than he could live without breathing. An amazing man.

If only we kept politicians accountable, like they did at this time. There would be many in jail.
