I was a casual viewer of Rick and Morty, but I did eat Mcnuggets every chance I could in 1997-1998 when the original sauce was available. I loved it. My nephew mentioned it when we were talking about the show one day. When he told me about this promo we planned to go to a local Mcdonalds that said they had the sauce on the release day. Got to a line pretty "early" with maybe 30 people. A ton more showed up as it got closer to 2pm. Then 2pm arrived and the manager came out and told us they had one of each sauce. As in only 1 Szechuan, one Sweet and Sour, etc... This promo included artwork and posters for all of their sauces in addition to the Szechuan. They gave out their 1 poster and sauce cup for each sauce to the first 6 people and the rest of us went away empty handed. Since I was an actual fan of the Szechuan sauce I was kinda excited when they did the re-releases and got some both times. Still tasted great to me. I wish they would at least bring it back periodically like the McRib.
I was working the night shift at McDonalds in 2017.Had no clue about any of this till after. They had lots of sauce left. I didn't think it was that good.
Fun fact. I actually went to a McDonald's for this because I had like 2 hours to burn before a wedding that my fiancee was a bridesmaid in. Was like 3rd in line and they only had 10 sauce packs(the special ones with the art on them) and 10 posters. Got one of them, didn't realize how much of a shitshow it was gonna be, the employees didn't know anything about the promotion.
They had a similar promotion back in the 80s called Chicken McNuggets Shanghai that did come with chopsticks. When I originally saw the Rick and Morty episode, I thought that the Mulan promotion was just a reboot of that. But turns out although they had five different Asian sauces, none of them were Szechuan back then.
I was at one of the McDonald's locations for this. There were about three or four hundred people there. The line went around inside twice and then around the building outside twice.
Interesting take to think that Rick & Morty made McD "bend the knee" while in fact they very likely just saw it as an excellent business opportunity and basically free marketing for a target group that they usually spend millions each year on advertising to reach.
Ironically this happened shortly after they temporarily discontinued the Hi-C Orange Lavaburst. Why couldn’t the Rick and Morty Writers make that the focus instead of the sauce.
Because the writers are aging millenials in their 40s wishing to be 12 years old in 1997 again playing Banjo-Kazooie instead of making good TV. They simply just grabbed some dumb consoomerist fast food shit from their childhood.
Meanwhile I just call up my local restaurant and ask for some takeout. They make their own szechuan sauce and stir fried beef, chicken, or any other animal or plant protein you care to pick. It's much better than the McDonalds recipe.
2017 was a crazy time, I wasn’t really into Rick and Morty that much at that time, I don’t think I knew about this promotion at the time, but now that I have tried Szechuan sauce honestly… that shi ain’t worth the hype 💀 I don’t think Rick and Morty packaging will make it taste better bru
I thought the collector's cup promotion earlier this year was a big controversy, I came too late for the promotion and the MacDonald near me closed on purpose. But it's nothing compare to 2017 sauce controversy, still feeling bitter after all these years and I have work that day. It's only 5 years later, I finally got the opportunity to try it and it's not the same feeling.
saweetie is kind of a big female rapper, but she's not as mainstream or as popular as nicki or megan thee stallion for example. i think her collaboration with mcdonald's was to boost her following at the time. great video by the way, you deserve more of a following!
I heard someone traded their car for a packet of that sauce and that people will stabbing each other to get it. Like good lord, these people claimed that rick and morty makes them over intelligent yet they become dumb wild animals because a cartoon gary stu told brainwashed them into trying a discontinued dipping sauce. This will forever label the rick and morty fandom as being stupid.
I remember back in 2018, one of my buddies told me our local McDonald's had szechuan sauce in stock. That friday when it was available, i got to try it. Sadly, i didn't get the full experience because I started to get sick. Not because of the sauce, but seasonal allergies. I tried again a few months later, and I liked it. Cut to 2022, someone who used to be a friend showed me that he still had a szechuan sauce pack from 2018. He thought he would get the same amount of money as the 2017 pack. Then, another ex friend dared him to eat it. And so, with a chicken nugget in one hand, and the sauce in the other, he ate it. I don't remember if he got sick from it, probably not, but he said it didn't even taste the same. Well of course not, it was a 4 year old sauce.
This event was the start of my dislike of the show. I still can't believe a mediocre show at best caused public freakouts over a fast food sauce. That one dude who jumped on the counter shouting That he's pickle rick and narutp running still haunts me.
I like Rick and Morty, I really do. But man, the fandom (and even the creators sometimes) really get to me. I mean, the triple parentheses around "and Morty" that used to be on the OFFICIAL twitter account? Seriously?
I remember the one Video, where the people raged over the sauce. It is still a wound for my Rick and Morty fan being I remember the creators being cringe too
I did try The sauce it taste like trash. the Szechuan Sauce was meant to be a small joke of the show for rick and morty that went controversial all over social media and broke the internet until the toxic fandom take it too seriously and went too far and starting riot over a freaking Sauce these morons giving us our genaration a bad name. i cant imagine mcdonalds managers and workers are being traumatized and dealing with these toxic fandom after strange incident over a freaking sauce is beyond stupid as hell lmao Even the creators were disappointed with the toxic fandom behavior at McDonald's 2017 was wild and i cant believe its been 7 years already
I blew out the radiator on my car that day diving all across town. Obviously, I didn't get the sauce. I wasn't even trying to get it for me. I watched Rick and Morty at the time but was more annoyed at the "Pickle RIck" fans. I'm 99% sure this wasn't a factor in why the girl I was going to get the sauce for doesn't talk to me anymore, but I am still single.

i feel so bad for those service workers 😭
There's no way it's almost 10 years ago. The years creeps on by

That Mulan promotion had me believing that they were gonna give me chopsticks when I ordered the McNuggets with the Szechuan sauce.

Why such a wonderful video has no comments, i have no idea. But this is a great video, thank you for your creation!
They really thought having a one day event would have went well
I had to go to a family quinceanera on this day. I to this day feel rather glad about that
Oh yeah I remember, it was hilarious. Thanks for a retrospective! Editing and presentation is top-notch

The 2010s was a mistake.
the late 2010's was a mistake. Hell rick and morty was a mistake.

This just shows how dumb people are. It was a dipping sauce
that moment in october 2017 will forever be a reminder of how stupid the rick and morty fandom is.
Brilliant video as always!! You're really improving in your presentation, I'm impressed ✨️✨️
well made vid!
nice video :)
Great Video

The sauce tasted like Dish soap, some hype.

You can buy the sauce at the store

It kind of sucks the UK didn't get this promotion
I like Rick and Morty, I really do. But man, the fandom (and even the creators sometimes) really get to me. I mean, the triple parentheses around "and Morty" that used to be on the OFFICIAL twitter account? Seriously?
I wasn’t Rick and Morty branded, just similar arts style
I remember the one Video, where the people raged over the sauce. It is still a wound for my Rick and Morty fan being
I remember the creators being cringe too
"It terms of a billion dollar company" ??? Seriously? Was that subtle (crappy) weird joke? Hovering around 200b. Surely you knew that.
