Fact: most murders in cases of domestic violence happen after the victim tries to leave the abuser. If you ever wonder "Why doesn't she just leave," that's why.
That's true. You're generally either in 2 spots in a situation like that. 1) It's BEFORE the abuser has shown their hand, so you wouldn't expect them to be dangerous. 2) It's AFTER they've shown their hand, and you're scared shitless of them.
tbh im all for "why doesnt she just leave" like (in most cases) theres no one holding you back, especially in her case, she didnt tell anynone about it until he snapped which is dumb enough, she was obviously able to go somewhere without him, why not walk to the fucking police station near you or call 911?
@@darrellwillis4871 Darrell Willis Just how many of these abusive relationships have you lived through "Darrell"? On what are you basing your "generalizations" exactly? Out of the many situations you've experienced and/or heard about, what are the most typical things you've seen a man do that reveals they're actually Hannibal Lectre not Prince Charming?
Zaphod7835 First, I'll redirect you to the National Domestic Abuse hotline for a definition of what I'm describing, as well as what most likely happens in those kinds of relationships. Also a quote used by the article states, "In fact, many abusive partners may seem absolutely perfect in the early stages of a relationship. Possessive and controlling behaviors don’t always appear overnight, but rather emerge and intensify as the relationship grows." From my life, I actually have experienced this however it wasn't romantic but it was a family member. However, it is just a generalization as you've pointed out.

Perfect example of an abusive relationship. She does all the hard work in putting up with his shit, shielding him from others etc all for some occasional good times. And when she tries to get out.....
And before we get any idiotic comments from SJW people trying to accuse the guys in our RPG group of "white-knighting" (gfy if you do), it was not for lack of self-assertiveness on the part of the women in our group. Stalkerboy simply would have ignored anything a "girl" told him. He was never openly verbally sexist, in faact he tended to suck up to girls by agreeing with waht they said all the time, but then completely ignored what they said. And one of the guy was my boyfriend at the time, who was one of the cuddliest bears I've ever met, who up to that day I had never seen raise a hand to anyone; he was an electro-engineer, member of MENSA and brilliant gamemaster, who had bought books about psychology and studied crowd mediation techniques specifically to be able to diplomatically defuse disagreements between players and mediate between them. But that event with stalkerboy, that was the first time I had ever seen him so _furious_ he was threatening the guy with physical violence.

@@TF2CrunchyFrog Unlikely but White Knighting refers to when men try to defend people who haven't'asked/don't need defending. A woman being harassed in public? Help her. Even if anyone calls you a WK at least you did the right thing and its better to err on the side of caution than let your pride be the reason someone got hurt.
Zone Doll I’ve never heard someone actually call someone else a WK for helping someone who’s being harassed. I’ve only ever heard the term referring to men writing social media posts about just how much better women are than them, presumably so that they can get a firm place in someone’s pants.
@@ButterflyScarlet "A woman being harassed in public" what type, if someone is fondling her, then it is probably a molester, you can just try to get between them if you see it and at most there'll be protests from both sides or they'll feel awkward if it's a fight you can get in between and see if both parties are going at it consensually, best not to hit the guy or anything since there's a chance you'll end up getting the girl very pissed if they know each other and were just fighting because whatever (since even though it's rare there are girls who like fighting), well doesn't matter whether or not it's a girl, in a fight attacking either party without it being 100% clear someone is attacking some stranger or whatever, is just dickish
They are a Jack of All trades, doing whatever it takes. Its the same thing with Balance Mages in Wizard101, their hard to play effectively I suppose, if you have a large group.
Rangers have the same hit dice as Fighters and Paladins, and can have a similar Armor Class. They are the Backup Tank for when the main one is either low on hp or not present. Trick is playing them right - at range until the Main Tank needs a break, and then takes over the Tank role.
It breaks my heart to hear that this poor woman had to go through that. Especially because she sounds super sweet and cheerful, and even tried to make things work with that jerk. But hearing how she bounced back and kept singing and playing like before literally made me shed a few tears. I'm really happy to hear that everything turned out the way it did. Thanks for sharing this story.
@@justinbuergi9867 we don't even have any leads to physical violence towards her in specific, I know it's written on the title but you shouldn't just look at psychopathic and assume he'll kill her in a few months, probably she kills herself rather than him killing her
ChiakiNanami is the best To be fair, monk fuckin decked ranger and bard was scared shitless of monk probably for a good reason, good enough to lock herself in a bedroom and barricade the door and refuse to come out until police came and said something. We don’t know exactly how abusive monk was but it paints a pretty bad picture
@@caramonmajere447 I don't know if this is what you were implying, and if it wasn't, forgive my ignorance, but I want to point out that men are also abused. I really dislike it when people think that only women are abused, due to the common stereotype, when statistically, men are more often abused than women. Also, I don't know if I'm reading too deep into this, but "most women" live happy lives with their husbands or wives, not enduring the likes of such abuse. Again, I apologize if I'm nitpicking here, but I wanted to point it out.
@Night's Watch knight Abusive relationships rely on built up trust and dependence. It doesn't really matter when the mask fully drops because they've already spent a long time convincing a person to overlook it all or denying and gaslighting that person for fighting back. Abuse fundamentally warps the minds of victims and that is often the most traumatic part. It shatters your whole understanding of the world, builds it into a lie, and it's often just as traumatic when the illusion breaks but there's also no other way to begin the healing process. That's why no one should really judge people who end up in abusive relationships over and over again. There is no personal fault in some predator using your fragile, broken mind as their punching bag. Abusers look for that stuff, consciously or not. TLDR, he would have slowly abused any trust, love, and dependent to quash dissent more and more over time until it became hard psychologically to fight back. And I should know, I've lived that. Sincerely, someone who left behind an abusive father and friendship.
In my experience, the victims tend to be as screwed in the head as the toxic man/woman who is abusing them.. Everyone gets what they deserve! Disclaimer: mental issues can be overcome! The thing is you need to acknowledge there is a mental illness involved in the first place! By treating victims as people with no will of their own, you just perpetuate the issue...
Nick Strife So, there's someone sharing their story of abuse in these replies. And then there's you, saying that they are just as bad as the person who abused them. I have no words.
Pretty sad for the whole situation tbh. Sounded like Bard was an extremely caring person and Monk really needed help. Monk didn’t sound like the typical “abuser.” He’s still at fault for the pain he caused, but that much difficulty with anything social and the murder stare makes it pretty clear there was more going on than the typical manipulative selfishness. Add drugs and it’s a pretty bad combo.
@@TheRainbowSquirtle It may be a bad take, but it is unfortunately accurate. It's made clear in the first part of the video that they were playing with this group in part because they could play together. If he had said that the monk couldn't join the group, she wouldn't have played either. It wasn't until she was ready to leave him that she was able to find help. It's a good thing that the monk played with them early on, because it put them in a position to help her.
Good on the guy that started locking doors. When defending a place, layers of defense is your best friend. Thats why real-world castles had multiple areas one would have to go through to get to the keep. the more areas where the invader can be slowed down, the more time the defender has to take out the invader or stall for reinforcements.
First of all this OP had me invested from beginning to end. As a Ranger fan I feel like his Favoured Enemy aren't Undead or Beasts, it's abusive jerks. I'm so relieved that Bard is feeling better too
He probably wouldn’t have been able to do much. There were several locked doors between him and her, as well as 4 people there who would likely try to stop him. Not great odds.

An extremely heartwarming ending to a rather unnerving story. I hope that group stays friends for a long time, and the Bard finds someone who treats her with the respect she deserves.
Me: Someone was probably jealous and got into it over too much time being spent with others. Critcab: Uno reverse card. - Nah it was likely domestic abuse, and boy let me tell you it is a crazy one. Me: Oh damn... I am glad bard got away from that monk, thank goodness for the ranger being there. I am so glad that didn't turn out worse, when it easily could have.
So glad that the bard's D&D group was so protective of them.. totally know what it's like to be that afraid of someone. I hope that person playing the monk never bothered them again after that.
Those players probably saved the bard's life! Monk could have killed her. Damn that's scary. I'm glad she was able to move past such a horrible experience, and thank god she has such an awesome party to have her back.
Sometimes, being the shield is more heroic then being the sword. This guy protected the others, was assaulted, but took it like a champ and was proud of how he helped. That is awesome.
Proof that Rangers are not a dumb class, he took on a monk and (Kinda) won in a brawl. (But in all honesty, I'm very happy that girl is away from that drug using/ selling f-Wit.)
I used to be introverted like the monk when I first played tabletop but I grew out of it and thanks to dnd I am a confident vocal person. But I can say this monk guy was really a bad dude no group wants anything to do with that and as a dm I learned to read those red flags from people and deal with it quickly.

Ooof. That was hard to sit through. But I'm happy they helped the Bard out so much, and I hope the rogue Monk got his comeuppance and/or a reality check. Ask the characters if I can talk to them.
Man I feel really bad for the monk... He died and fell in a lake because the otherworldly being that controlled him turned out to be horrible so he never was able to be there again to keep the monk alive. Poor monk R.I.P. Sorry your player was a terrible person.
That guy went from shy to threatening real suddenly... I wouldn't feel safe having this guy know where I live. What I thought was a cute unlikely relationship flipped things around very sadly. Glad Bard felt safe with them.
Given the ranger seemed to know more about the intimate details of her situation, it seem possible. People like bard latch on to the monks thinking they can help them. Would a monk be a match for a ranger in a physical encounter?
This is a perfect example of things not being what they seem. At the first, I thought the way their relationship was described was exceedingly wholesome. Check on your friends even if everything seems peachy.
3:40 - That...my friends is someone who has been in a bad relationship long enough to know when someone is going to lay on hands and I don't mean in the Paladin sense.
Thank god Bard had a group that had her back. The descriptions of her play on the days when her abuser was showing some of his true colours was absolutely heartbreaking. :( I hope she gets to play a goofy, happy-go-lucky bard for the rest of her gaming life.
I thought with was going to be a huge plot twist where the bard turned out to be a Psychopath and was manipulating the whole group against the socially awkward monk. turns out I'm too creative for reality. glad it all worked out.
You should branch out to other hobbies. That kind of people are everywhere, with no indication that they're more common in gaming - just that we talk about them more often. Now, unwashed nerds, on the other hand, are pretty much unique to gaming and allied hobbies.
So happy the group helped bard out. A player that makes songs and jokes about your campaign is a treasure, and must be protected. Especially from dangerous dudes like monk.

I've listened to quite a lot of these now, and I don't usually comment, but I've got to say that I'm so glad 'Bard' seemed alright by the end. They seem like a really great bunch of people and I hope they do manage to stick together.
Listening to the start of this I was like "aww, Bard is super sweet! What a good partner" The middle of the story "Wait, seriously? No. Bad Monk." End of story "Fuck that monk. Bard deserved way better and hope Ranger is awarded with the blessings of Sarenrae"
one of my former players threw money at my face because I wouldn't give him a loan for his father's gambling debt, when he already owed me money, that technically counts as PvP. Also when I looked back on his actions, a lot of times it almost felt like he was on some kind of drugs, I can't be positive on that front, but his pupils were dilated, his reaction time was slow, he did weird facial movements.
I wanna be in that group haha. I've only ever had to deal with one person that was at our house that we didnt want. And they knew that they werent welcome. Same kind of story he was trying to find his ex after he abused her and he came to our place because that was the place to go ( we had a lake house at the time) well she was there and he knew it ( her car ) and tried to force his way in. Bad news for him was I was in the army and this was before I got hurt. So I was big. A lot bigger than him lol. ( he didnt do so well and went to jail with a broke nose )
And this was after me and my buddy showed up to his house with my pistol on a separate occasion to get her out of the house.... I told her to call the cops but she didnt want to because she was afraid of what he would do when I got out. So i went and got her. And they broke up. ( for a little back story)

Fact: most murders in cases of domestic violence happen after the victim tries to leave the abuser. If you ever wonder "Why doesn't she just leave," that's why.
And in spite of this, there are so many comments in other threads that boil down to "It's her fault for not leaving earlier." People are crazy.

First, I'll redirect you to the National Domestic Abuse hotline for a definition of what I'm describing, as well as what most likely happens in those kinds of relationships. Also a quote used by the article states, "In fact, many abusive partners may seem absolutely perfect in the early stages of a relationship. Possessive and controlling behaviors don’t always appear overnight, but rather emerge and intensify as the relationship grows."
From my life, I actually have experienced this however it wasn't romantic but it was a family member. If you met this person, you wouldn't assume that on many occasions I've been robbed by him, insulted, or that room destroying fights have occurred from trivial things.
However, it is just a generalization as you've pointed out.

They are from an era where exploration was still part of the game.
Rangers have the same hit dice as Fighters and Paladins, and can have a similar Armor Class. They are the Backup Tank for when the main one is either low on hp or not present. Trick is playing them right - at range until the Main Tank needs a break, and then takes over the Tank role.

So that's how he got more swole.
Thank God she got away, what a toxic man
Yeah, who knows how much worse it could have gotten if she stayed :/

Bad take
@@TheRainbowSquirtle It may be a bad take, but it is unfortunately accurate.
Bard sounds like such a sweetheart, I'm glad she's okay ;-;
Good on the guy that started locking doors. When defending a place, layers of defense is your best friend. @@bigpep360 You're a hero man!
@@CritCrab I was ruthlessly bullied in school. I absolutely hate that shit. Ever since I got big I go out of my way to give hell to anyone i see bulling or abusing someone. It's like a sport for me lol.
@@CritCrab btw love the channel. Found it today as you can tell and have been binge watching the videos haha.
One time I knocked out 3 guys with one punch to rescue a baby. When their girlfriends found out I was a navy SEAL, they all had sex with me.
Poor Bard... girl needs a hug.
This group probably saved the bard's life. People like monk don't take break-ups well and in most cases end up killing them. Or at least in the most cases I have heard about domestic abuse. Hopefully the bard has recovered full and has found/will find someone nice.
somehow i find real life pvp less enticing than the ingame one. Really cant get why
You're less likely to want to be the tank when you can feel the pain
