- Hey all :)
I recently uploaded a 'Soft Autumn' makeup look but thought I'd try a True Spring look as I have heard that natural blondes cannot be an autumn. Do you think the autumn or spring makeup look suits me better?

I think you look absolutely radiant in the true spring makeup.
Aw thank you so much! ☺️
Your hair color and mine are twins. I had my colors professionally done and I am a warm spring. That is the spring/autumn flow.
Yay hair twin! What a beautiful palette warm spring is :)
My hair is same color as yours at age 54!!!
I am a bright spring and was in the control group for the Original Color Me Beautiful book, but now I can wear black and white my golden hair almost a strawberry is now platinum. The winter black and white fabric comes in to play as you get white hair, factor that in! Cheers.
I thought for a while that I was a soft autumn, too. A lot of people in color analysis communities kept saying that. But then I tried on some bright spring colors and saw that it was just much better on me. You look amazing in that bright spring scarlet red. ❤
I think soft autumn is usually the suggestion when it's a bit unclear what season you are. Glad you're feeling comfortable in the bright spring colours, and thank you! :)
I think you look better in the true spring makeup!
Thank you! I’m starting to think so too.
Ooh I much prefer the spring over autumn, it makes you look more expensive.
Ooh thank you! It’s nice to look more expensive lol
She did my color analysis- I’m a warm spring- color palette between spring and autumn
What a beautiful result!
I love that color top on you. Like you, I thought I was a “soft autumn” but I’m realizing it’s too soft and washes me out. I lean more towards true autumn now and I can pull off some of the true spring colors too, especially in the summer
Thank you! I've been wearing it a lot recently too and am really enjoying coral :) Yes it seems like we both need a lot of warmth and it's easier to wear brighter warmer shades in the summer
@@vickilouise7764. You’re definitely warm! As for the season and sun-season, I’m not sure. I think you wear both well.
@@sciencenotstigma9534 thank you! I’ve been typed by two different companies as true autumn 😊
I saw both warm spring and soft autumn make up video, and I prefer warm spring on you, it looks more natural.
Thank you! I’m still playing around with both palettes and seeing what I prefer 😊
That eye shade made your eyes really green! Lovely
Thank you! ☺️
Hi Vicky. Thanks for replying. I appreciate your reply. I do agree that Spring colours are difficult to shop for. I don't think that a lot of people are Springs so designers don't use much Spring colours unfortunately. My other pet peeve is that Spring colours don't align with the colours of nature. I feel sillt wearing lime green and peach in the dead of winter. But go out to the stores and have fun seeing what you can find. Although you missed the Spring season you may need to wait till next year. That gives you a whole year of research and homework, ha ha!! Enjoy.
Thanks for your comment, Sherry! This is something I've been trying to understand - how to wear your colour season all year round! It feels natural to wear spring colours in spring, autumn colours in autumn etc. But yes I have a long time to do some research and truly work out my best shades :)
I have almost identical coloring to you and think of myself as a true spring :)
That’s interesting! I’m still unsure lol, think I need to play about more with both spring and autumn colours and see what works.
Yes, I think the Hollywood redheads confuse the issue due to always colouring their hair(Jessica chastain, emma stone, nicole kidman etc that are all true springs (i think) its rare to see someone with genuine natural reddish blonde exposing their true skin without foundation and sundry
I think you look great in both versions, but I will say the Autumn is my favorite. It seems more at one with your overall complexion. These two were so much fun and interesting to watch!
Thanks for sharing your opinion, Leah 😊 glad you enjoyed watching!
Hello! It is difficult for me to compare because you have different light in your videos. But what I would like to say... when I just saw you, first thought - warm colortype. Obviously. Your skin looks golden on video, not neutral. So I would say True Spring or True Autumn. Good luck in your journey!)
Yes the different lighting makes it tricky! I had a House of Colour appointment and I'm an autumn leaf (aka true autumn). Thank you :)
I actually think that the makeup you tried here might be more True Autumn rather than Warm Spring; TA can look like someone took the Soft Autumn makeup and dialed up the saturation and made it a touch richer/deeper.
If you search for the Concept Wardrobe’s makeup palettes for the two seasons, your eyeshadow looks closest to “dark russet” on the TA palette, and your lip seems closer to “berry red” from TA than any of the WSp lips!
It might be worth revisiting this again, and see if some brighter, lighter, and “juicier” colors work better for you!
Thanks Emma! I do need to keep playing about with the shades of both the spring and autumn palette. It doesn’t help that I don’t own a large range of colours within my makeup collection either. The Concept Wardrobe’s makeup palettes are so handy!
@@vickilouise7764 I have the same exact difficulty! It doesn’t help that it’s so hard to objectively evaluate your own face and your own wardrobe/makeup collection to compare with the palettes.
@@emmal885 oh it’s so difficult! And I’m so easily swayed from spring to autumn and back again 🤦🏼♀️
I agree ,but it is a bit hard, looking through an IPad-- I do not think you skin is not that fair- you definitely look like you have more yellow, but no red undertone - Like I said, could be my IPad 😊
@@marylou3995 Vicki definitely has golden tones to her skin. To the point I'd love to see her in warm foundations rather than neutral. 😉
I had dark blond hair with yellow highlights at 14. At 19, it got more highlights but still yellow. I have very blue eye.
Hi. Based on your description, you may be a spring. You'd have to be draped (either by self or a professional) to really know. If a pro analysis is not an option, try to drape yourself in bright vs muted versions of a color. E.g. Bright golden yellow vs mustard, tomato red vs muted/ wine red, bright orange vs rust, leaf green vs olive/ moss green. If brights suit you = spring. If muted = autumn. If you don't have the clothes, try to go to a discount store. Hope that helps!
Yes, or just try on clothes at a department store. The only problem with that is the dimly lit ones with soft dressing room lighting makes people look good in everything. In U.S., JC Penney’s bright lights are great for draping.
I really like this look
Thank you!
Hi Vicki. My opinion only: I agree with Carole Brailey's assesstment. You're colouring looks very much like mine. I am a True Spring. I don't think you are deep, dark or rich enough to be any type of Autumn. You may prefer those Autumn colours because that is what you got used to using. Give "Spring" a chance, ha ha!! The 16 Season Analysis is actually the most correct. If you are a Spring you are "tinted ". An Autumn is "shaded" and I don't think you are "shaded". My opinion only. Perhaps another analyst would give you a different assessment. I think that meeting with someone in person is better than through the computer.
Thanks for your comment Sherry :) I am dabbling in spring makeup but I don't own many spring colours of clothing. Tbh the brighter spring shades are a bit daunting to me as I don't think I can pull them off as well as the muted shades of autumn. I've been looking more into the 16 season analysis and the spring description does sound like me. I agree that getting an assessment in person is better as the lighting of pictures can perhaps not be a true reflection of how you look in person.
Very timely video to come across....I always thought I was a true spring but that color palette didn't really resonate with me. I was VERY blond as a kid, but my hair became the same color as yours by the time I was in my teens, and my eye color is dark gray-blue....I"ve never had a pro analysis but after reading "Color Me Beautiful" have decided that I am more toward soft autumn. Literally, the picture in the book of a soft autumn looks like me in terms of hair, skin and eye color.
Oh that's so handy that you look like the picture of a typical soft autumn. Hope you enjoy exploring that palette, it's beautiful :)
Thank you for this 😊 I love your voice narration🙏 Lovely elegant accent!
Thank you so much! 😊
Gorgeous!
Thank you!
you seem like a true spring to me, this make up looks better on you i think
Thank you! 😊
Gorgeous!!! I definitely think you are a bright spring - your eyes just pop!! Simply stunning!!
Thank you so much! 😊
I like the autumn look more, it looks amazing on you. But what I wanted to say about this one is that it doesn't seem too spring-y colour-wise, because the colours, even though they have shimmer, are pretty muted. I thought you were gonna do a more bright one, at least on the lips :D
I think subconsciously I was a bit apprehensive to go too bright! I understand why now cos I'm an autumn and I suit more muted tones :)
@@vickilouise7764 I thought that might have been the case 🤭 I saw you in another video with a bright red lipstick and a bright red top though, and that looks good on you too. But the soft autumn makeup still looks the best.
Thank you for the video! Happy New Year!
Thanks for watching! Happy new year to you too 😊
The spring colors look great on you! I’m a spring and that lip color wouldn’t look good on me…that’s the only thing you did that didn’t seem to match spring very well. But loved the video, thanks!
Thank you for watching! Turns out I’m an autumn anyway 😊
Yes, the oak lip liner seemed to bring it back to autumn 🍂
Have you looked into true warm? It's supposed to fall in between spring and autumn
No I haven't but that sounds like it could be my season! (or seasons....) :)
Do you find it easier to choose makeup and clothes now you've had your colours done? I never have and was skeptical but think I would like to. No idea what I am! Also I think this make up look really suits you, it is nice and vibrant! But agree on the softer look being more you. I think we have similar colouring and I do suit corals etc, but like you prefer a more muted lip but I love a peachy eye and cheek with it!
Thanks, Deborah! Tbh I seem to own a lot of makeup and clothes that would fit into autumn's colour palette - I think I'm just naturally more drawn to these colours. It's more clothes that I have to think about the colours of, and sometimes when you order online the colour doesn't look the same when it arrives!
@@vickilouise7764. Too true! I’ve ordered several clothing and makeup products that are too dark for Light Spring, when I receive them!
I’m having a lot of difficulty picking my season, in winter I definitely am cool with pink cheeks, but because I’m mixed race in summer my tone changes to a golden tan and my hair is a level 7 dark blonde/ light brown.
If I had to guess I would say muted, neutral cool leaning. Which would put me in the soft summer soft autumn range, but apparently we have to have dark hair…. So spring maybe? Except I’m not that warm or bright?? I’m not light enough or cool enough for summer?
Finding your colour season is so tricky! Mixed race and POC often present with warm colouring but it doesn't always mean they are a warm season. Soft summers can also have lighter hair so I reckon this may be a potential season for you, especially if you lean cool and think you're more muted than bright. :)
@@vickilouise7764So true! I’ve seen many brown and black people, as well as mixed people with lighter hair and/or eyes who are cool. I’m biracial but fair, though it still pressed difficulty for me. I have a lot of red in my skin, but it’s because I’m Native American, as well as Swedish, so my entire dad’s side has red overtones. I got my grandfather’s green eyes (he was an eighth Irish…I’m 1/64 Irish and the only, since my father, with green eyes.
*presented difficulty” (can’t go back to edit).
@@vickilouise7764You have offered more help to others than anyone I’ve seen post about their own color palette. Thank you!
Ooh! Spoiler alert... congratulations on the bareminerals Vicki 👏.
In my opinion you look more "awake" and happier now, perhaps because it's summer time and I like bright colours for the season 🤔... Definitely more muted and discreet in the autumn look, which is more the style you like... I think both suit you very nicely anyway! TFS. Isabel 💛
Thanks for your comment, Isabel 😊 yeh perhaps the time of the year plays a role in how you look. I’ll definitely keep trying out spring and autumn makeup looks and see what I like!
The color you are wearing seems to be the Warm Spring palette (my palette), because it is clear and bright. Your skin appears ivory, an Autumn quality. The colors in your decor really seem to be your colors. I think you are a soft Autumn. light warm brown and with gold tones in your hair. My sister is a soft Autumn; it's a bit confusing between a Warm Spring and Soft Autumn because they are very close. But Warm Springs are not muted at all, though we wear warm tones, while Soft Autumn's prefer colors that are softer. You seem to me to be a classic Soft Autumn. ❤❤
Thank you for this comment! I’ve been analysed as a true autumn but can of course borrow from the soft autumn palette 😊
Can a true spring be naturally black hair? Light yellow looks so good on me even though I get really yellow and dirty in most colors. I followed (diy) the 16 seasonal and the result is mute autumn, Idk what to feel cause mute autumn and dark autumn look somehow good on me but many believed they’re mute summer/autumn but turns out always to be true spring cause you can’t be mute if you’re blonde. I have black hair but idk what to feel about my chart. For my peace I would probably consult for color analysis but idk if it’s 16 or 12 season. I couldn’t follow the 8 cause being olive, yellowish in most warm colors, but dirty in cool tones really are confusing to me.
With the House of Colour system any hair colour can be any of the four seasons. Muted seasons are a common result from DIY analysis as it's difficult to be objective about yourself. If you can get an in person analysis done that would really help to provide some clarity, it's been a game changer getting my colours done!
That’s often Bright Spring, but people’s hair doesn’t always match their skin, or it could be a warm shade of nearly black.
I have watched both of your color palette videos. You do look great in both. I do have to agree with the other commenter that there is something about the spring that seems to do something for you. I am a true spring with darker blonde hair than you, light blue eyes and warm skin. Please do not take every word from these websites on what you should wear. The colors are good but they don't mean they are perfect for each individual. Do not take dewy literally. Dewy would not look good on someone who has oily skin as I had when younger. Now it is combination but I still shy away from very sparkly blushes, bronzers and eyeshadow. I always wear all neutral brown eyeshadow & eye liner with coral blush and lipstick most days. My eyes pop against darker browns so that is what I use. Keep in mind that oily or dry skin requires completely different makeup. Then to really mess things up, once you are over 40 or 50, your skin changes color which is even more difficult. I should know lol. When it comes to makeup, trying the spring will feel off for you because you are trying more orangy/pink type makeup. Try using more your usual eyeshadow colors with the coral to see how that works for you. True spring is not very loud nor is it pale. Look at other people. You will see with some with hair, skin and eyes kind of blend together where as others will have contrast such as eyes popping with color, hair and lip color. Makeup is very personal and there are sooo many colors. If you feel your skin looks great with the colors of Autumn then that is your color. Also keep in mind that True Spring can wear some Autum colors as well as its not too pale or too bright. I hope this helped a little xxx
Thanks so much for your comment, Denise! I've been playing about with spring makeup recently and I do notice it makes my skin more radiant. But there's just something about the earthy tones of autumn I love. However, I'm reading more into the 16 colour season analysis and think that I am perhaps a spring. It's very confusing going back and forth lol. I'll continue to try both colour palettes and see how it goes :)
I think you definitely lean more soft autumn. I don’t agree with Carol Brailey at all. The vast majority of color theory experts agree that soft autumns will often have dark warm blonde hair. Think Jodie Comer. Sh is a soft autumn with honey blonde hair. (In the 16 sub season color theory there is also something known as a soft spring, interestingly) I too have very similar coloring to you, and find myself torn between warm spring and soft autumn. But the soft autumn makeup looks far better on me. I hate wearing bright lipsticks - I think they look awful on me. So, like you, I think I am a soft autumn.
Yes you're probably an autumn then! I've been colour analysed and I'm a true autumn, the peace of mind knowing your colour season is something else :)
You look like a summer to me
Interesting!
Your hair is not « weird »… it’s called dimension. That’s typical of Autumn types. Spring hair doesn’t have that. When the eye color and the hair color seem to be « changing », it just means that they have that range of colors within them. Think of a flat monochrome, and a iridescent material. One has one solide color; the other has 2,3,4 colors in it. That’s the same for Autumns. They have that depth, that dimension.
Dimension is a much better word for it :) Great way of describing it, thank you!
Autumns we’re pretty. Spring makes you look more youthful. I wouldn’t use top eyelid eyeliner. Your eyes are more round and bright without it. waterline ok.
Yes I think with spring makeup being brighter it adds a youthfulness to the look.
I think your eyes are bright
I agree, they're a bright green-blue :)
True autums can be naturally blonde as far as i Know ☺️
Yes we can! Think it's a misconception that autumns have to be brunette. :)
I think there's no point in looking at your hair in isolation or your eyes or even skintone The colours that you are draped in tell you what season you are, that really is the only way to tell. You can get blonde autumns and dark haired springs, you simply cannot tell what season you are from looking at your colouring, a mistake thats made so often. If anyone tells you you can, they are probably working from an out of date colour training system. Draping is the only reliable way to go!
I agree, there's so much variation in seasons that looking at eye colour/hair alone cannot tell you what season you are. Draping was such an eye opener for me! The drapes do not lie :)
I like the Spring colour makeup more on you, the autumn video makeup just doesn’t look the freshest on you. The spring makes me look at your features, your eyes pop.
Thanks! There is indeed a freshness to spring makeup :)
I think you're a spring!
I was recently colour analysed as a true spring! Although a year and a half ago was analysed as a true autumn by a separate system....
The spring look is very nice but the soft autumn look suits you better. You also looked happier in the soft autumn look.
Thanks for your thoughts Helen, I appreciate it!
I think the soft autumn top you were wearing in the other video when you weren’t wearing makeup dulled you down and showed a lot of marks and discolouration on your face. This top doesn’t do it!
I agree, the other top was far too dull! I love this jumper :)
Your reasons for believing you are an autumn don't fit with colour theory. It's not about what your skin is, it's about what your skin needs. That greyish tone you mention is exactly why the warm colours are needed, to lift and counteract the grey rather than having you blend in. The greyest warm skin tones need the warmest colours to look their best. A more neutral, borderline season has more of the golden tones naturally present in their skin and when you match them to the warmest colours they tend to look far too yellow. They need a bit of coolness in their warm colours to balance that out.
That said, you can prefer and wear whatever you like.
Thanks for your comment, that explains it brilliantly. :)
Ur not a true spring ur v muted
You’re right! I’ve been typed as a true autumn from two different companies 😊
