    Wow, professionalism right to the very end.
    I found and subscribed to your channel a few weeks ago.
    With your videos, I was confident enough to build my partners 4 hip roof with a 300mm ridge on the longer side. (Pergola 11.8 metres roof area 25.9 degrees)
    Tonight I found why you cut the corners off of the wall plate lol.
    I’m also shocked and very pleased to see you reply to comments, true dedication to your viewers too; I take my hat off to you sir.
    Keep up the inspiring work.

    Good video man. I always find it quicker to string line the main roof section and cut for the hip. Then fit the monos and let them over sail. Then move the line over to the thickness of the material being used and then cut everything in situ. Then just slide the hip into the channel you created.

    • @thetallcarpenter
      @thetallcarpenter  2 года назад

      Hi Clint🖐 I guess that method means you have to offset the monos so the don't line in with the trusses, or the flying tops of the monos will still hit the cut flying tops of the trusses🤔 I really like the sound of doing it that way, cause you don't need to mess about getting an accurate mono rafter measurement, you just nail them up against the girder and cut the top moved over line as you say👊Thanks for your comment bud and for watching😎Cheers Del

    • @thetallcarpenter
      @thetallcarpenter  Год назад

      Hi Ross🖐I wouldn't know where to start to try and make a video explaining my processes of setting out roofs like this😬and, yes, the drawing is important, but on many occasions a computer will draw out a roof on a technically different way to it being fitted. I could do a video on this but it would be VERY long and, potentially difficult to follow, plus I'd need to earn a day's wage, plus I'd really need someone to film it. I will keep trying to explain as much as I can about setting out and interpreting the drawings for these kind of roofs as when I do them👍Thanks for your comment 🤩 Cheers Del

      @@thetallcarpenter thanks for the reply del. Yeah I get what you mean. I've never done a big truss roof ( done a couple gable to gable) and I always wonder how you go about doing them and how complicated it is working out what trusses go where.

    • @thetallcarpenter
      @thetallcarpenter  Год назад +1

      @Ross Cooper The drawing, obviously, is the place to Starr when fitting a bigger roof, but it's not usually got much useful information on it such as exact measurements and specific details, and it's experience that helps you fill in these gaps👍

  • @davetaylor4741
    @davetaylor4741 2 года назад +1

    Good work as usual Del. Hard to get all those measurements on your own. Just wondering how long all these strange truss roof designs have been about in the UK. I left in 98 and up to that point had never seen anything but common trusses sent out and a pile of timber to build the rest. Now you are getting reducers and valley trusses. Starting to get there. By the time you retire they may well have sorted them out. The other thing you would have thought in today's computer age is if you are going to run a truss plant why not just shop around and buy the licence for a decent truss program. The Americans have some great ones. The Aussies do too. These have been perfected over many years and are way better than what you get. The parameters are fully adjustable to input tolerances for UK building regs. It is the software that designs the roof. Once you have that you could get rid of this convoluted effort you are trying to work with. Probably trying to do it in house and save a quid but if suddenly they made great trusses imagine the extra business.

    • @thetallcarpenter
      @thetallcarpenter  2 года назад

      Hi Dave🖐Another insightful comment bud👊I don't think there is the desire push the boundaries of truss design and manufacture here in the UK😬Its like everyone is allergic to the suggestion that things could be done differently or need looking at from a new perspective. Like many things, people like you, me and many other great guys, know what needs to be done to improve things, but getting the message passed upwards is another story altogether😵Have a nice weekend😎Cheers Del

    Absolutly love this roof. It will look amazing. However I can't forgive you working in that heat to the point you are getting headaches and dizzy. That is your body going into shock from heat stroke. It's saying "if you don't stop, I will lie you down"

      I hear you Roland, and I'm pretty in tune with my body, and you're dead right about the early signs of heat stroke, and I appreciate the sentiment of you comment🤗Cheers Del

    Ya bloody good mate must admit you lost me ten minutes in lol …..plus ya got to be fit working on a roof, I’d be no good let’s say in not very nimble anymore at my age lol

      Hi Carl🖐Yeah, my job does keep my agile I guess, but I'm really noticing, as I get into my 50's, how much more tired I get when doing roofs😬 Thanks for your comment bud😎Cheers Del

    You should name and shame the truth manufacturers its not as though you only had 1 problem it's not acceptable

      It would be pointless Karl, as they would only say that it is all 'within tolerances', plus, most trusses are just the same😵Thanks for watching😎Cheers Del
