The last one sounds like a "mixed grill", a pretty common dish in Greece (well, at least when I was there years ago). You'd get beef, chicken, pork, some sausage, lamb - all in one dish. Served souvlaki-style with fried potatoes, tzatziki, and some veggies. Also, fresh lemon to squeeze over the meat. Super delicious and you'll definitely be full after a meal like that.
Astoria my neighborhood ♥ unfortunately gentrification has worsen our neighborhood a lot. Two great restaurants in Astoria are definitely Taverna Kyclades and Zenon Taverna. Another great sport is BZ Grill! If you ever visit Astoria you won't regret visiting any of these three places for sure!
Gotta love the Souvlaki Lady! So happy Eater and Lucas came out to Ditmars Astoria! Respresent! You guys should check out King of Falafel in Astoria! Another really popular spot!
For those who say "But Souvlaki is just a Copy from "this" Country" Btw, almost every Food in the Balkan Region is the same.. so stop crying about it and just Enjoy it differently in every Country!
I’ve never had Souvlaki Lady...Ditmars is a little bit of a trek from where I live, but looks great. You should also try Frankie’s Souvlaki parked on Steinway and 31st Ave next time you are in Astoria.
Wow, that Souvlaki lady looks really good. Like, if she had kids, plural before this cart, the youngest she could be was in her 20s when she started. I guess that Greek food's just that great for one's health, eh?
Please also leave some link to map location of the place you go! I will visit New York soon and it will make it easier for me to find the places shown at Dining on a Dime.
The thing I've never gotten is that the majority of Greece and most Greeks identify as Orthodox Christian, but Orthodox Christians are the most strict when it comes to not consuming Pork.
Orthodox Christians definitely eat pork. Especially Greeks! Could you imagine if almost all of Greece could no longer eat souvlaki or gyro? They'd go nuts.
Frankie & Johnnies 320 W 46th off Broadway district for best old school steakhouse. Peter Luger in Brooklyn is probably best steak but pricey. Gallaghers off Time Square also old school, great martini's.
There’s a shishkebob Guy by kids GAP I think. Hands down the best in the world. Everyone knows him. His sons run it now but they hired a couple Mexicans now. It’s the best you’ll ever taste and everyone knows them. Always a line. They have a truck now
the thing is that all the culinary world knows, accepts and respects good teriyaki skewing, bout soyvlaki is so, so underrrated at the same time, same goes for souvlaki pita which technically is nothing but sushi.... sushi has tuna( protein), rice, (starch) and a burning sauce ( wasabi).....now change all these with meat, tzatziki and pita and tell me that theyre not completely identical
Not as good as people have reported , the chicken on stick was dry and over salted. Mostly white meat . Low cost but nothing to write home about. Eater.ny needs to up their game this is another one of theirs raving reviews that are sub par . Notable the fried chicken in NY review.
Astoria 20 years ago was one of the least desirable neighborhoods in Queens. No one but the Greeks wanted to live there. It was a rundown dump like Hells Kitchen in 1960s and 70s was a dump. Then came the "young professional" transplants from suburban America and the gays who started to move into Astoria because revitalized Brooklyn neighborhoods like Buschwick and Williamsburg became too expensive for these transplants. Astoria today is so gentrified that the Greeks can't afford the rents and properties as it's been turned into Queen's largest gayborhood.
I remember being shown an apartment in Astoria in ‘i87. Every adult lady was sticking her head out of the window. I was with my best friend. And she was a Black American Citizen. And they were alllll staring. All those Greek ladies. Ugly, unwelcoming staring. I remember tf out of that. We chose Sunnyside.
I appreciate how Lucas describes the dishes honestly & intelligently.

Man, going through these videos again, I need more lucas videos. Yours are my favorite on this channel.
Thanks for checking out Ditmars! There's so much great stuff to eat up here. Major props for not doing Taverna Kyclades like 99% of other food shows!

Eater be makin Lucas eat chicken skewers, just because hes the only presenter who could last 5 minutes talking about it.

as if meat on stick was an original idea anyways
souvlaki is greek,it appeared 3000 years but it was called κάνδαυλος.
@@jimmygs2504 κάνδαυλος was boiled meat...
Love Greek food especially the salad and grilled chicken with Mediterranean spices
Here before all the anti-finger eaters show up.
Another excellent Lucas video. 👍
boy....u know those fingers have been on subway poles and who knows what else....it just aint hygienic
Thanks for watching and thanks for your support! :D
Souvlaki is the best shoegazing album by Slowdive.
Lucas is so knowledgeable about everything cuisine! It's so impressive, especially when he attempted to guess the special sauce.
thanks for watching :D
Can you do an episode of the chinese restaurants you grew up on in your home town
Chinatown in Chicago! Great idea.
There's also a lamb skewer lady in flushing

I wish I can be as articulate as Lucas does.
I love you Lucas 😊😍😙
GDI, why didn't you come out with this video earlier?! I was just in Astoria last weekend. Now I have to go back. This looks so goddamn good.

Try pork souvlaki with mustard and breat with lemon juice on the meal ofc. Thank me later bud. Greetings from greece
Meat on a stick is like universal across all cultures that have invented fire.
Fuck, I'm hungry. That looks delicious.
I just at wish I could find more about the grill she uses
It's almost midnight AND I AM HUNGRY AGAIN WHY LUCAS WHY
Lucas, have you ever been to Toronto? (Edit: just watched your Toronto playlist!) Oh, and what's your favourite Weezer album?
That's my hood :)
Michael Reyes "hood"
You should try tortas neza in queens !
Next do Thai food in elmhurst!!!
when is Lucas going to visit Asian countries aka taiwan. the world needs lucas.
Actually let Serena Dai do North Korea then leave her there
Super!
I thought souvlaki was originally lamb not pork!?
Yes back in ancient Greece the meat was lamb.
After ww2 it included pork as well(which today its a staple) and the last 2 decades chicken as well.
There's so such thing as souvlaki it's called siş kebap and it's from turkey.
@@sachsgs2509Lamb is not a hellenic thing it's mostly a middle eastern thing.

Hey guys were visiting new york on december. Wheres the best steakhouse?
Can't go wrong with any of these: Peter Lugers, Keens, St Anselm
Frankie & Johnnies 320 W 46th off Broadway district for best old school steakhouse. Peter Luger in Brooklyn is probably best steak but pricey. Gallaghers off Time Square also old school, great martini's.

AYO-😭📸

hello my son
Can someone teach me how to make Tzatziki?
RY 82 yoghurt, garlic,cucumber, olive oil, salt,vinegar
and lemon and mint!
add crushed walnuts it would take it to the next level
That would be a different, although also delicious, sauce.
do i still need vinegar if i use lemon? i don't like vinegar
I'll come from Melbourne just for that
Hi Lucas, do you wash ur hands before u eat? Sorry, i have to ask for the sake of my sanity. Thanks.
aayyyyy lucas
Good God that food makes me wanna kick my diet
how she start 30 years ago when she barely look 40?
Her daughter is in her 40’s

I thought this was just going to be about the wooden sticks, not the actual food.
Most of Greek immigrants came to the US before WW2 not after .
That seems very similar to shashlik.
I wanted to keep watching with my eyes, but the constant camera cuts at every three words was making me dizzy and pissing me off
Gyros! Yiros! Wins!
Mmm
😩😍💦💝 i want him to (redacted)
Meat skewer space station

Πάμε κορίτσια δυνατά να τους μάθουμε να τρώνε
What happened to this dude?
Dear, you are supposed to use your teeth to pull it out!
As nice as the food looks, I could never eat food from a truck on a corner in New York City:(
The thumbnail is cringey af

Για πμε λιγο το τυροκαφτέρι
Lamb is traditional
Very unenthusiastic when talking about food
Not that great had way better on Broadway
Only I cringe when I saw how this man was eating the souvlaki😳
