I find I watch an outdoor disaster video a second time because they’re just so good. It’s like when someone tells you a great story around the campfire, not that these are simplistic like that, but they’re so classic that you can watch them a second time because they’re so well narrated, structured, edited, & the music is majestic, it’s something I noticed on the first one I watched. They’re fascinating and the images are so appropriate. Many times you’re watching a RUclips reenactment of an event and they’re putting found footage that doesn’t have really anything to do with it or is vaguely relevant to the story - well that doesn’t happen on outdoor disasters!! I always say is Outdoor Disaster is best program on RUclips and I always recommend it. I’m always surprised that there’s not more likes on these. Fans of O.D. remember to hit 👍 like! Thanks💖
Thank you so much for your kind and touching words, Julie! I was actually burning the midnight oil making a video. Feeling drained, I needed to take a break. Then I read your comment, and you instantly motivated me. Your support is so appreciated. It's people like you that make doing this such a pleasure. You rock!
Yes! I'm an avid, longtime hiker. More than once, while on an adventure in a remote location, I realized road, trail and/or weather conditions were deteriorating, so I turned back to return another time.
Over an hour long video of OD?!!! So excited!!!! I ♡ this man's voice! As scary, horrifying, very real details are being told, his voice soothes me. Oh! Remember the 1993 Galeras Eruption story you told so eloquently? A story I never heard of before. I bought the book, No Apparant Danger by: Victoria Bruce. Waiting for it in the mail. All thanks to you, OD! ♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡
Otter..what a poor bastard..i wish i have half of his will and sense of adventure..i really felt for him through his last lonely days of despair..im not even a hiker but your storys really captivate me..great work
I am not a hiker so I apologise for my ignorance. But it seems you can walk a mile or 2 in the US and you are alone which is great. No need to keep going!
Stumbled upon your channel and was so happy to have this video before bedtime, since you speak very clearly and engaging, with a very pleasant voice. The stories were interesting and well told, I will definitely listen to all of them. 👍🇸🇪
In 70’s received a Postcard from Tom LeSuer on his trail hike ( no farther ! ? ) to Grand Canyon with his family. Only Postcard or letter I received in 70 years. They were careful and enjoyed a challenge, emerging ok from their hike. As a single guy, I didn’t understand Christy Canyon, model, would have a reassuring state of mind on me ( with her model name Canyon ). Thank you for the action movie here, illustrating water isn’t that heavy to carry. Those plastic 20 oz. bottles are great. Polycarbonate material ? The decending looked deceiving, especially with no trail. I’m sorry for Dave; always provision for temperature, Scout ! Our Scout hike in Ohio was in colder, safer ? , temps.
Always wondered about that bus...someone must have driven it to it's final location..must be a road nearby...did it cross the river?...or is a road nearby on the same side as the bus?
So they tried to touch the Artic Ocean but was turned away??? Im crazy like that too. Where are my best chances to touch the Artic Ocean without being turned away?
The kids at the bus messed up real bad too bad the guy was weak they should have been strapped together and crossed together 😢.No way in hell I would have lost my sweetheart no way.
To combine multiple stories in one long format would not be ideal for this channel. There is so much work that goes into one story. To do multiple and put them in one would be putting way too much time into one video and would delay new stories. And I know nobody wants that! I get you may not like the marathon format. But these videos are for people who do like them and for new viewers who come across the channel. Don't worry. As usual and fresh new story is coming on Sunday. And this one is definitely compelling. Thank you for your feedback!
I will never understand why the husband didn’t solo cross the river, go for help, then let the professionals rescue his new wife. The water was too high for her to safely cross. At the very least people crossing a river should always link arms if they’re forced to cross. I wonder if the makeshift bridge that could have saved Chris’s life a few kilometres down from the bus was still there at the time? It’s so senseless.
That’s the point, to group existing videos into a marathon for people to relax to as they clean, work out, fall asleep ect. He puts out new videos every week, it’s not realistic to create over an hours’ worth of original content just for a marathon that won’t necessarily perform well. I like the grouping of stories, personally, but I prefer each new story getting a dedicated video.
I suppose you could say he was a bit arrogant. Running shoes instead of hiking boots, yikes! But the guy was very resourceful and tried hard to survive. Hiking boots and snowshoes could have made all the difference. RIP, Otter.

Thank you for providing so much more detail about these stories than most other channels do.
A story is just as captivating the second time around when the storyteller is so talented. Thanks for the longer format.
Glad you enjoyed it!
My sole goal in this life is to not to get featured here, ever! I’m so scared of the final lesson by the *cruel teacher* 🙈 😂😂🙈

I had to be helicoptered off Mt Baldy after spending a long night lost in thick fog.
As a solo Winter hiker in the mountains the preamble to this video was beautiful.
Why did he starve I summer yet survived winter ??
Hikers we are a different bunch. The one rule alway obey. The trail and mountains will always be there. So turn back if things aren’t right.

Ive done a lot of dumb stuff in the mountains solo and glad Im still around to learn from others. My motto is: do gnarly $h*t, remain uninjured.
This was very entertaining and informative. I hope many see this and respect the wilds.
Hiking isn't limited to the mountains. It also happens in woods, desert, plains, everywhere.
True, it happens in every conceivable kind of wilderness.
Nuts...I've already heard this story a dozen times!
Awww the comforts of my home 😮
Will watch tommorrow when i do my house work thank you O D 👏❤️❤️😘
Yeah gotta do the same as well. Appreciate youN
Who wants to be around dirt so much..I enjoy outdoors an hr or two but not all day. Guess many do

This should have been a survival story.
And this is why I'm angered through grief. 😠
Every time I listen to the Claire story I think of those poor cats she was supposed to feed. Hope they were OK!
Magic bus didn't have much magic
I began to wonder at about one hour and six minutes about the cat that Clare was supposed to be watching
How do these crazy ideas & illusions get into their heads ?

wow-just wow
Didn't anyone remember the ene of the magic bus trek? He died a long painful death.
And he also questioned his silly ambitions and desired to return to the life he scoffed.
Actually he had a privileged life.
That poor Otter guy was so sad.
