      You are so right. Even if you respect the power of nature it is still dazzling and dangerous. I am a beginning surfer as an ex skater.. 50yrs old now. Never seen an ocean.. i live by the sea. When i went to France and got stuck in a severe 9 to 10 foot swell i managed to surf one of those.. but before popping up i got scared of its raw power. It was like riding a freight train... my board stuttering and shaking.. I tried another one but got stuck as the swell got more intense and the fear i got from that lasted 10 months. If i watched waves on a video it triggered that fear again. It was just too much to handle mentally. I was focused on the technicality of surfing and forgot about the dangers.

    Holy crap, that guy Larry was an unbelievable moron to agree to a 9 day ocean kayaking trip without ever even having been in a kayak before, and the both of them are extremely juvenile--Really? Let's paddle three miles back through the water that we just literally barely survived instead of taking the ferry back???? Because we're competitive??? FFS what fools.

    I watched an interview with Saul and that that jackass Larry. It was infuriating watching everything that he did and then to see him absolutely trash Saul and berate him for trying to go get help. Larry kept yelling how Saul "left him" and "abandoned him" and said he should have stayed behind with him even if it meant they both died. Wow, just wow, what a trashbag.

      This is one of those stories I could rant about forever. I'm a kayaker in the same general area (though I'm smart enough to know my limits and not try to paddle in open water) and I about foamed at the mouth listening to it the first time. So many stupid things right from the start.

      Larry struck me as a bit of a jerk. "I'd have stayed with my friend, even if it meant dying". A - who's going to get help then? And B - easy to say when you're the one who recklessly got in over his head. His friend's decision saved his life, and he acted like a total ingrate.

    You have to respect the ocean. Don't be where you can easily be swept into the ocean. Blow holes have power and if large enough, they can swallow you. Even just sitting or standing on the rocks can put you in danger. Pick your spots carefully. Observe the ocean waves for a while b4 venturing closer to it. Think ahead what will happen when the regular sets eventually deliver a massive wave. This always happens in such cases - a larger wave will come every so often amongst the regular sets.

I had the zeal but not the funds to purchase all the gear. it took time, some years but I lived through it by recognizing when I had reached the bounds of my experience and or gear. I think lots of people do that, sadly, the Mt Fuji climber failed to recognize when he had reached his limit. Watching his video its remarkable that he didn't realize when he had passed his limit

    Tbh it’s difficult to feel much empathy for anyone except the single mom who had to face so much. Even then (and maybe I’m old fashioned) but in my book a man doesn’t cohabitate nor raise kids with a woman who he refuses to marry. Especially for 10 years. That says a lot about a man’s priorities. Regardless what his woman may or may not say ANY woman in that set of circumstances want’s commitment. I can’t get my head around siring a child and buying a house but refusing to get a ring and make it official.
    Blowholes aside.

    • @elizabethfallert1963
      @elizabethfallert1963 2 месяца назад +1

      You are old-fashioned. It’s fine that you think a ring is necessary to demonstrate commitment but you don’t speak for all men and you certainly don’t speak for women who have been trapped by marriage since the dawn of time. I’m happily married, I even chose to take my husband’s last name, but I know my experience doesn’t reflect that of every single person, and this man didn’t deserve to die because he didn’t give Teeka a piece of symbolic jewelry that she may not have even wanted.

      The city actually proposed putting in a grate but the local residents protested the idea and it was eventually canceled. The locals said that the natural beauty of the blowhole shouldn’t be changed just bc some people are too stupid to stay away from it. And I completely agree with them. We shouldn’t have to childproof the world for adults that know better. I don’t mean to sound crass but this is natural selection at work.

      Because it isn’t a Disney attraction, it’s raw, pristine nature as God made it. Enjoy at your own risk. If you don’t have common sense, stay home.

    Savage wilderness? If you have experience the wilderness is home to many people like myself. I have lived on the edge of wilderness most of my life, in Colorado, in Hawaii, the high Sierra for forty years and now the Pacific Ocean via a 40 foot sailboat. I have spent nearly every day of my life hiking, backpacking biking, skiing, kayaking, scuba diving and sailing into the wilderness. It never feels like a savage place only like a place of amazement and excitement. I’ve seen lots of people washed by waves in Hawaii, warned many tourists of the extreme danger! Wilderness love it or leave it but always leave it better.

Put yourself in a bad spot only to die and abandon his wife and small child only then to start a fundraiser.

    Rachel de Jong - such a brave girl. I hope she now sleeps safe in "the everlasting arms", safe in God's memory, every hair of her head numbered, and that she has the most wonderful awakening ahead of her when the time comes. She will see this lovely world again when God wakes her from the dreamless sleep of death. But he will not wake her until the whole earth is under the loving, perfect rule of the Kingdom of God, the heavenly government for whose coming Jesus taught us to pray..
