I’ve taken a few lessons, but the most helpful one came from a guy I played with a few years ago. He taught me to take my glove off when chipping and putting, and it made a world of a difference with feel. He was a nice guy but I forgot his name.

I'd never had lessons when I started golf over 30 years ago, but I've never putted or chipped wearing a glove. I don't know know if it was because I saw pros take their glove off on or around the green when I first started watching. It feels wrong just thinking about it!

You're my coach Matt. Best lesson I received was to hang up the driver and play the clubs I feel good about. For 2 years the fellas in my golf league snickered about me teeing off with my 7 iron but my handicap has continued to drop. I can consistently finish under 100 and last week (after a lot of practice) I worked my 3w into the bag and shot 88. That is my PR and it all stemmed from watching your course management and ego busting videos. I am playing thoughtfully and within my abilities and my score is falling steadily.

Amazing how a golf swing and game can change so drastically mid round. Great video and I laughed every time the 'Nice Guy, Forgot his name' flashed up. Currently playing the golf of my life mainly due to having played 70 rounds so far this year and finding your website and adopting so many of your principals. Thanks for all these videos and enjoy your golf, it's better than working.

Of course Golf Lessons Work For Me
The Golf Lessons I get on the channel from you is what makes me enjoy golf again
I gave the game up for 3 years when I got fed up with being angry and upset each round. Now I don't care
You have taught me to remember that I am only pursuing a hobby so I need to smile and enjoy myself on the course
Played on Saturday my first round in 6 weeks due to weather issues. Course was saturated from lots of rain and hadn't dried out and I shot 8 over my handicap
The guys I played with had a miserable time as they dealt with their struggles. Not me I was smiling regardless of how bad I played.
Because I was out there to enjoy myself and have fun partaking in my hobby
Thanks for the Lesson Chief Playa 👏👏

Golf lessons help even the best of golfers. Even as a +6, your course management skills have translated into my game, allowing me to play consistent, better golf. I went from a +4 to a plus +6 in 6 months, a big part of that being a change in thought process on the course. I used to think playing that way was for weekend golfers who can't keep it in play, but in the last year and a half I've been watching your channel you showed me that isn't the case at all.

Your Golf sidekick videos have been instrumental in making me a better player in terms of strategy, management, and headspace, and I wouldn't be half the golfer I am today without you. But nothing will ever compare to my swing coach, Vinny.
Golf lessons are the cheat code to being a good golfer. No video, book, or training tool can match a pro staring at your swing and telling you how to fix it; not even close. Nobody can tell you the best way for YOU to improve unless they sit down and watch you, and that's what a lesson does. I've been seeing the same coach on and off for over a decade, starting when I was a teenager. Whenever I'm feeling like I'm finally a competent golfer I book a lesson and he me humbles me, telling me exactly how I can improve. Every time I do.

I took lessons for two years with a coach named Terry who completely changed my crappy/flippy swing at 30 hcp into the 10 hcp swing I have today. He was able to help me troubleshoot my swing if I started shanking or hooking. Now I have a reliable draw and hit the ball farther and more accurate than before. It gave me confidence as I developed that I could ‘eggsrcute’ the Playa in chiefs plans for breaking 100/90/80. I now shoot reliably in the mid to low 80s. I moved away and haven’t seen terry for awhile but I know that I probably would not have enjoyed golf as much without his coaching. Now to find a coach to help with my putting! Then I’ll reliably be in the high 70s!

Golf lessons have absolutely worked for me. I tried to pick up golf while in college by teaching myself using RUclips lessons and posting swing videos for randos on the internet to critique. A few frustrating months of that during the summer and I just gave up. Five years later I decide to try again, took a lesson and within minutes there was real progress. I left with specific things to work on at the range and have continued to improve with that.

The best thought to hit a shallow swing on the ball is, think of sliding your club under the ball between it and the grass. This thought helped me with shallowing the club amd hitting shots opening my club face.
Try thinking this when you hit your irons. I got this from a fitter and it improved my contact and mid/short game

As a RUclipsr, I think a great question you ask the playas is if they've been helped by golf instructors who are on RUclips. I found this US instructor who's on RUclips that promotes a swing body rotation and not by using arm strength. The swing feels much more effortless ("Effortless Golf Swing"). I went ahead and bought his e-book and am enjoying a much smoother swing.

Was fortunate enough my lovely wife acknowledged how much more I was getting into golf the last couple of years and she bought me lessons as a birthday present last year.
I was a double-bogey golfer, I worked hard, but just couldnt find consistency.
I had a 3-lesson package with my coach, he he literally took me from a 36hcp to 20hcp, and on the way down further, with some very minor tweaks on my swing with my driver and long-mid irons. I was far too steep on my swing (causing chunks and slices), and after teaching me to (what was at the time uncomfortable) shallow the club, I found a beautiful draw in my shot shape, and not only is that now my regular shape, it feels totally comfortable to me, like 2nd nature.
The club pro's are definitely worth their weight. Waddalesson

I’ve taken many small group lessons when I was at a ~22 and I’ve gotten down to about ~11. These lessons have given me many “feel” concepts that I think were perfect for my skill level at that time. They didn’t over complicate things, but got me thinking towards nice end goals. As I break into single figures, I think 1-on-1 lessons will be better for specific swing changes. All this while having the Playa in Chief as my mental coach, what more can I ask for…other than an International Birdie Bank Credit Card.

Lessons have been AMAZING for me because my coach isn’t trying to change my swing. It’s so important to find a reputable pro who can examine your swing as a unique move, understand how your body works and what it’s capabilities are, then recommend drills and techniques that develop FEELS for good movement within those boundaries. Since ditching RUclips swing tips 18 months ago I’ve gone from a 27 to a 15 HC with 2 rounds in the 70s under my belt and enjoy golf more than I ever have.

Only started playing this year and had a lesson at the range a couple months ago, really messed me up. In the last 3 weeks, I’ve managed to go from struggling to break 90, to consistently in the low 80’s just by using CENTURY and GIOTG and focusing on the shot rather than the swing 👍

This was so cathartic to watch! I can't believe two eagles on the front nine followed by a meltdown. But I do believe it because mid-round forgetting how to swing is my specialty! Thank you for sharing that with me!
p.s. I've learned that it takes about 30 minutes for cortisol to get out of your system unless you manage it well. I also noted that you kept making a mention of your 5 up start and thinking backward is a recipe for locking up your body as well as the technical swing thoughts you were fighting. Easy for me to type, so hard to execute!

  • @chrisearle7886
    @chrisearle7886 2 года назад

After only golfing for 3 months I broke 100 using your method (No driver, only 5 clubs, splitting shots etc). Then my ego said “If I can break 100 with a 4 iron off the tee, surely I can break 90 with a driver!”… so I became obsessed with hitting driver.
For the next 3 months I tried and tried and tried to no avail, and it was at this point I decided I needed some lessons. I explained to the instructor that my irons were good and I just needed help with the driver. His first comment was “If you can hit a 7 iron straight, you can hit a driver straight”, so he had me pull out the 7 iron and proceeded to change my swing. After two months of lessons, not only could I still not hit the driver, but I couldn’t hit my irons either! I quit taking lessons.
I tried to get back to my old swing only to realize I had lost that too… then depression and anger set in. I went to range almost every day for the next 3 months trying to flush the new thoughts out of my head and get back to what I formerly had. Finally a swing emerged… not quite the old swing, but sort of an evolution of the old swing… I was back!
Now what?? I had just wasted almost 9 months because I wanted to hit that damn driver and still couldn’t. “Hmmm maybe I should watch that breaking 90 video?” lol
I threw the driver back in the garage and went and got a 7 wood… the “secret weapon” as you called it. And sure enough, I could hit it. After a month or so of practicing with it on the range, learning to get out of bunkers, making sure I could chip and two putt from anywhere around the green, I was ready… and voila… shot an 86!
I don’t want to say lessons are bad, just that you need to be willing to suck again for a while. Perhaps if I had held out, it would have been positive, but I guess I’m just impatient.

Just had a great lesson that fixed my driver. When swinging any club except my driver, I have a natural tendency to keep the face closed on the backswing and the downswing, allowing me to easily square the club face at impact. But when I swing my driver, I am entirely inconsistent, going from a straight hit to several slices and then overcorrecting and hooking it. When I took the lesson, the pro showed me that although I keep the face closed on the backswing, as I try to move my hands into the slot on the downswing, I leave the face wide open, and then I rush to turn my wrists to square the face. Sometimes I luck out, but mostly it's still open, and I slice it. The pro decided the best solution for me was to turn my wrists during the back swing. My left wrist is completely bowed at the top of the backswing. Now I don't have to think about anything except letting my arms fall into the slot while I swing my body around my left thigh. I am hitting the ball straight or with a slight draw 90% of the time now.

In my last lesson we worked on my grip - it was getting weak. I tightened up my grip and got strong, which resulted in the purest ballstriking ever known to amature golfers - straight mid irons saved more greens in reg - and made me play my first ever round of 84 - no mulligans, no nonsence, just relaxed shoulders and strong grips. easy life easy personal best. Wadda lesson.

Best golf lesson I got was from a beautiful pro woman golfer at the pro shop that ended up letting me hit my 1 wood down the fairway straight into the hole. Hit the rough on the way in but I hit a little “fader” and ended up on the green with the “green light” for an eagle. Every once in a while I’d end up in the “shit”” but she seemed to like it when I ended up in the sand trap after she realized a water hazard was in play. She would give me a penalty every time my stroke was off tempo but that’s what makes golf so great. Enjoy every shot playas. Because the next shot might just be your best shot ever. Best lesson I ever learned. #Waddalife #Divotsaregolden

Was not taking any divots at impact. Tried everything to fix it. Finally gave up and took a lesson. 80 year old gentleman working at range near my house. 50 dollars 30 min lesson. Made me do a very strange exercise which made me doubt this ability. 30 mins later, I was taking perfect divot and best impact of my life. Booked 5 more lessons with him immediately.

Matt, you hIt driver in their episode more than I’ve seen before. Sorry about the melt down. I’ve experienced similar situation recently like every time I pulled a 6 iron I shanked it on the round. Thing is, that club is one of my favorites. Oh well, Stuff happens. I didn’t play golf for 10 years because I sucked and never broke 100 since playing the game at the age of 13. Finally when I was 50 my son wanted me to teach him. Well I decided to take lessons from a pro suggested by a good golfer friend. Well, I took 6 lessons (one a week for an hour). About two weeks after my last lesson I broke 100. I was bombing drivers and hitting irons like never before and playing so much better. I played to an 11 handicap. I’ve since retired and play at least twice a week now and hitting the ball great still play from regular tees ~6300 yds. I’m 71 years old and have a current handicap of 5.4. The thing is I keep the ball in play more and play smarter. No hero shots and the short game is much better. I use an app with GPS when I play and it keeps track of handicap and stats. I love your channel and content. I see you are still wearing the shoes from your trip to the states.

Best lesson came from this channel: Stop self diagnosing. Went for a lesson couple of days ago and even though it was fairly simple, I never would have got it right myself. I was hitting hands first and nothing was happening below the waist. Reminds me of being single, but for different reasons.

Lesson’s from a Pro: I really depends on the ability of both the Pro and Golfer how they communicate to get the messages and concepts transfered. I had many good lessons when the language transfer was good and understood by me. As well to have a briefing after the lessons if the instructions are understood, repeatable and memorized by me.

Golf lessons always have me striking the ball so much better, that I completely forget course management. Love to get new drills to learn how to keep that crisp ball strike for the next rounds though!

I have taken one lesson since getting back into golf. That lesson was a month ago. We filmed it and I have been drilling 5-6 times a week on what I learned since then. Now I finally feel comfortable to move on with the next lesson. Also, Linkin Park?

Lessons changed my whole disposition on the course. Prior to a few lessons I would get so frustrated during a round trying to figure out what was wrong with my shot. Lessons gave me a couple of things to focus on, and if I was working towards those I could live with results. It took the guesswork away.

Ahah this video is so relatable. IN my opinion i think the problem was you started super well 😂 Whenever after a lesson , golf course is irrelevant. Ofc this sentence can change whether what you working on . But for me if i focused on the lesson fixing my long game i tend to worry about short game on the course. Cause i know other part is in progress. Keep with the content , you're doing a great job .

The best lessons I ever got weren’t even full on hour lessons. There was a pro at the club I played at that I would play matches against. After a round or before one he would help me for 2 minutes on something so small it seemed insignificant that he noticed while we were playing. In six months I went from a 12 to a 1 handicap with these small bits of swing feels. It changed how I looked at the game for sure.

Agreed - the best one I ever had was 2 minutes and didn't charge me - told me I was ridiculous. Move the ball back 1 inch in the driver setup. Shot 73 the next day after struggling to break 80. Got to scratch in another couple months

golf lessons work for me, though i've never had an official lesson. my lessons involve me watching better players on the range and the course. i absorb their movements and establish concepts around those movements in my mind. i've always done that with all my sports. i'm a feel player and i work on feeling what i've seen and then practicing applying it to my own swing.

Got a lesson about 5 weeks ago. Only focused on getting off the tee. Since that lesson, I’ve had my lowest round ever (finally broke 90 and shot 87), I won 2 tournaments, came in 2nd in another two tournaments, and am consistently hitting my driver 230yards + mostly in the fairway. I’ve also been playing the same golf ball for 3 consecutive rounds, which might be my biggest accomplishment (avoiding penalties)!!
Coincidentally, around the same time as this lesson, I got my new waddaplaya tuba polo shirt and have been wearing it nearly every time I play.
Come to think of it….might not be the lesson that helped me… #waddashirt

This is my exact problem. Everything will be going great and somewhere along the way it's like I forgot how to swing. Especially with my driver, one slight fade when I hit a draw all day and the derailment is shortly ahead. I keep shooting low 80's but if I could stop the madness I know I'd finally break 80. One day!

I’ve been having similar back 9 meltdowns with zero confidence on simple irons and wedges. Those mind worms keep telling me a shank is coming! I went for a lesson and we worked on ball strike and attack angle. By the end of the half hour I’d changed the angle of attack by 2-3 degrees (don’t know all the technical jargon) but It felt great and gave me something to focus on back on the course. Not there yet but at the moment I’ve got the demons in a head lock and I’m not letting go. I’m playing this game not you! Stop hitting yourself. Stop hitting yourself…
