This is how to break 70 in golf like a baus.
I didn't three putt the first hole this time and actually returned a score under par. I felt fantastic about this round and you'll see in a future video coming soon how I learned from my first round here to execute this excellent round of golf.
I focused on position off the tee.
From there I was able to hit attacking and sometimes defensive approach shots.
This left me 15 birdie putts for the day.
You'll see in my comparison video that I learned a lot about where not to be and where to be. All that mattered to me in this round was that I was in a position to hit a clear shot to the green. I didn't mind where from, just no hazards and no OB.
Then I focused on not jabbing at the ball on the greens to take advantage of the smooth pure surfaces of Bangkok Golf Club.
I could have made a few more putts, I could have played the par 3's better but at the end of the day a 69 is a 69 and now one hates a 69.
Also it should be noted:
1. I improved my sleep by upgrading my mattress to a expensive one with a down feather topper
2. I exercises for 5 straight weeks after the last round, and I was feeling looser, more supple and stronger and fitter.
3. I changed my irons to the Srixon Z Forged and got rid of the Mizuno JPX 919 Tours.
4. Exercise not only improved my overall mental well being, but it also improved my sleep and knocked me out by 10pm every night instead of staying up til past midnight on a no exercise sedentary plan.
5. On hole 17, I was extremely annoyed as I received some shot selection advice regarding the chip shot. I was standing over it, really ready for a chip in to be honest. I was so confident. Then an unsolicited helper came and told me it runs a lot more than you think. That was just after I had my head down ready to go and chip it in. You'll see the yippy chip and then I missed the putt because of the blind rage. This was my fault as I should be able to block it out. but it really could have been a 68.
“No birdie, no tip!” - bruh I’m dying, sooo funny 😆
Rules are rules. You start tipping birdie-barren caddies, then next step you have complete anarchy.
No one corrects me in public 😂 are there really 199 caddies named NING at that golf course?
I learn from this guy now golf is easy again 😘
Yeah, that was gross, regardless of whether or not he and caddie are familiar with each other. Bet he’s tipping with his daddy’s money.
@@codys3151 I’m tipping with your mothers money. Thank her again for me
These are by far the best course vlogs out there. All the graphics, the shot tracer, the hole overview on the right side, the new lie graphics. Dude you’re an absolute legend please keep em coming.
Thanks playa you are a legend though. I am merely a god
Matt I am truly enjoying these mic’d up rounds you’ve been posting. This round looked so comfortable and even though you didn’t make all the putt’s the stroke was so pure and committed leaving yourself tap ins. Some of those long bunker shots were just 🎯. The irons off the tee was such smart golf as well. Beauty 69!!!
Thanks boyfriend. This was a good day. I hope the comparison video with thefirst time i played here will be helpful. I’ll make it soon to shoe you the difference and how i learnt where NOT to go off the tee
Totally agree!
@@GolfSidekick looking forward to it brother. Keep doing your thing, been watching for over a year now,

Matt, love the little 'lie indicator' graphics - takes understanding your shot choices go another level. Especially important since in previous videos you've spoken about not playing copy /paste golf but assessing the lie!
Congrats on a superb round 👏🏽
Living proof that practicing your short game is vital. This man can chip and putt with the best of them
I've been watching for a while and just realized I hadn't subbed. Now I have, and it's because you're so mean to your caddies... cheers!
It’s true. I actually bought Ning. She now belongs to me forever
I played at this course on the same day with you. I saw your friend too. Really want to greet and take a photo with you so much. Your video had made me improve my game so much. Love you. Love content. Keep going.
Next time say hi playa
Your channel finally made me commit to buying a set up clubs during lock down here back in the first week of august, and just broke 100 for the first time today! The production has gone through the roof recently. Just wanted to say thank you for the casual yet informative vibe you give off in all of your videos.
Love that playa
1:46 the caddie pulls the smoothest move I’ve ever seen😳
You’ve probably never had a caddy before that’s the universal divot filling move
Dude i just watched that like 4 times before I saw your comment. What a power move.
Your channel is a breath of fresh air...finally a great twist on an original format.
"no birdie no tip now" lmao
Five birdies no money left
@@GolfSidekick well worth the money. wish i could buy some birdies
Yeah no reason to talk that way to his Cattie. In America he can get away with it but not to a woman god knows where he’s at. She should’ve told him to kick rocks
@@rileyshane78 Pity wherever you're from, men and women can't joke together. Why do you have such low opinions of women that they can't also have some fun and take a joke and give a joke? Are you perhaps a sexist? You pig
@@GolfSidekick great respect brother🖤
I love psychology and commentary in these videos. You've learned a great deal and passing it on helps me to focus and play shot by shot. I went -2 yesterday, in easy conditions, it still made me feel a million dollars. Your swing changes are paying off big time - looks solid relaxed and powerful.
Matt: really great to see you progress to this point. I think any of us would be ecstatic with this score on any course. Any amateur in the 70s is a fantastic player. Well done playa.
Does anybody else get depressed when the 18th Hole Music starts playing or is it just me....?
I always want more
Yes me too

I'm a newcomer to the Sidekick club and loving it; entertaining and so informative. As an 8 handicap who wants to break 70 this year on a flat course with no bunkers, penalty areas or OB boundaries, one of my biggest takeaways from this video is to just get it on the green, avoid double bogy, and trust the birdie opportunities will keep coming. It won't hurt if I strike the ball and chip and putt as well as the Sidekick did in this round.
You’ve escaped the tuba! Excellent round sir.
What is tuba?

10/10 video. What an absolute baus. The message to the golf Karens is pure gold.
Best Attitude Under Stress.
Definately the way to play, playa!
Sidekick is the embodiment of baus!
@ Brent Cloete
Double thumbs up brother!
Gotta say, your swing is so much improved since the swing lessons you took, it's crazy. Swing looks great here 👏
I have a ton of respect for a solid Caddy. To be able to stay focused out there, to provide success for someone else, all while not fixing the urge to grab a club and start playing themselves lolll, yeaaa...respect 💯💯💯💪
Still my favorite course vlog. Haven't been playing well lately and watched it again tonight to prepare for my upcoming round on Friday. Good reminder that this is the way to play golf.
Your game has improved so much the last year it’s crazy! Awesome played Matt!!
Is it weird that when I walk up to my putt, the birdie tune is playing in my head. For some reason it is a confidence booster!
no army-golf, no tuba, inesis tour soft, amazing putting! cheers!
Huge!
Literally watched your older breaking 70 video last night: "don't 3 putt the first" you didn't, there you go Mr 69!
I live a simple life. Matt posts a video? I watch the video. Easy life
Wadda life
@@GolfSidekick you make me wish i was young again; i think i missed half the fun. i enjoy watching you and friend having so much fun. keep it up
I love the addition of the lie information!
I love you though
@@GolfSidekick Should definitly do the next video on lies. (wet VS dry uphill VS downhill above VS below)
I still can’t get over the fact that the narrator is Matty. Your channel is incredible
Hi Matt, just started playing (age 62) and appreciate the way you cover the thinking involved in making shots and general course management. I've done all the other videos about grip and swing etc etc but that leaves me cold (necessary but cold). Please keep making these vids where you explain each shot - they're the winners. Love your oddball turns of phrase. Let me know if you're ever coming to Darwin Aust. Weather like Thailand
Thanks playa
Ahhh, you’re taking Michelle’s tips? Excellent!! She changed my putting for the better
Bravo! "wadda playa" feel inspired making my next vlog👊 Good on ya
Playing the natural shot shape is so important for maximum commitment. Loved the video! Congrats
Hole 6, 2-iron - one of your best swings ever. I probably watched that on loop for the last hour 🤤👊🏼
Hi Matt love the birdie music we all get fired up when we hear it. ❤️
“Nobody corrects me when I’m wrong in public” loll
Even though my handicap is not ideal right now, I am ecstatic to take the WOTP mentality to my course this year. Your ideals are top-notch brotha
My boet, i am slowly but surely getting there following your advise to the tee.no pun intended.i have managed to start breaking 70 and i am now pushing myself for those 60's.tought road ahead but i will get there.
“No birdie no tip” lmfaoooo
You get it. Some don’t. I love you
this video has a virtual realty feel
The disclaimer at the end is my favorite touch, very very fun guy and good fitness and health are HUGE.
Well done Matt. I really enjoy your wisdom on being a Playa. I've started golf again after 5 years or so. Playing for fun instead of playing to be a hero! Strategy really works. Love it. keep up the good vibes.
Welcome back to the game beast
Love it 👊🏻 but feel short changed by the lack of birdie music on 9. Just felt wrong...I even hear it when I’m playing 😂
I apologize Joel. I was unsure whether I should put it in, some people might think it's bragging LOL
My favorite part of the video was reading “Karens” disclaimer 😂
There are some I didn't address...the ones who think my jokes with ning as serious: "no birdie no tip"
Anyway, they are instantly blocked from commenting on the channel again. you have to have an IQ above room temperature to proceed here. If not, you're GONE
I completely agree! Absolutely hilarious, and hopefully these provincial "Karens" get the point!!
@@GolfSidekick thank god i like my room temperature nice and cold :)
@@GolfSidekick lol at first, because you are in Thailand, I thought you were referring to the Karen ethnic group XD
I came here to see/say this 😁
What a Baus round!!! Many birdie, many tip! So much fun watching your progression, you’ve proven to us mortals how crucial a solid mental game is to shooting low. Thank you for your content Bausssss!
Great round Matt. Also to mention, your playing partner was coolness personified, encouraging and not afraid to express an opinion. I think we would all benefit from having that coolness accompanying every round. Looking forward to next one.
Hey Matt, I’ve started drafting up our NZ Golf tour. Just tell me when you’ve booked the flights and we’re good to go.
A guess at the ball: Srixon z-star yellows
Heyyyyy Matty!!! FINALLY, hitting 5 iron off the tee on skinny 540yd par 5’s… birdie & a par! 👍🏻
NO Hero shots!! = 3 Birdies, 8 bogeys, 7 pars..
Thank you for your course mgmt , you’re the best “Baus!”
Brad, you get it.
When I saw the title, I got excited. Great round. Great video. Having the mic on and the lie indicator really helps to understand the thought going into every shot. I also love the little asides in Thai to the caddie. I used to live in Thailand and get deep nostalgia from these videos! Thanks for your content Sir, hopefully this year it will help me consistently break 100 and threaten 90 ✌️
Thank you playa. Only those who have lived here can understand here. Love it
Looking mighty relaxed out there, playa. Every swing you look loose and calm.
For a change!!
That tee shot on 15 was incredible
Is a nice one
You are incredible
I said it last time and I'll say it again. These videos with the live commentary are 100 times more enjoyable! So fresh and appreciated for long time viewers.
Not always possible due to being in larger groups or mic malfunctions but i try
@@GolfSidekick completely understandable. And great round btw
Thanks for watching big papa
@@GolfSidekick always and forever boyfriend
What a playa, what a round! Congrats! Those lessons are really beginning to bear fruit along with your baus mental game. Fantastic.
Hi, my name is Karen and OMG! Can you say, “Easiest course ever!”??
Where I live, it snows year round and the sun only comes up for 30 mins a day. It’s on a mountain peak, so you need an oxygen tank for the elevation, and while _it is_ a par 72, the par 4’s are 650+ yds and the par 5’s are 800+. The fairways are covered in 6 inches of snow. The rough is at least 1.5 feet of fresh powder. The greens are solid ice and there are no paths to navigate the course. Polar bears and mountain lions frequent the 9th tee box. Shoes are strictly forbidden, so you _must_ play barefooted. It is _mandatory_ that you walk backwards due to windburn liabilities, and every hole is approx. 30yds uphill. Did I mention that there are no golf carts? I have the course record with a -21 but good luck hitting any less than 100 strokes here. I’m having a brain fart and can’t remember the name of my hometown course I play every weekend off of the top of my head, right now. It will come to me eventually though, when I feel like playing there again. Good luck!!
hope this is copied otherwise you got very little hype for a lot of effort
Hi Karen thank you for your service to Karening. You have achieved maximum Karen and i love you
lmao
Inesis Tour 900 Yellow: le balle de golf bon vivant - would be my choice.
Great round! You putted so well! My goal this year is to break 70 at my home course. You've been very inspiring!
When i watch this, i am like, i am going to start doing videos like these in South Africa...... And then i remember, i have a job, i have kids and a wife...... Theres no way i can play more than 1 a month.... Back to youtube and dreaming its me playing and not @Golf Sidekick.... lol, enjoy these video so much...... Good work! Playing Saterday my round at Pebble Rock (South Africa).. Gonna use these strategies highlighted, lets hope for a better day of golf and hopefully breaking 80 this time!!
1:45 We not mentioning the smooth divot fill? She got that Deadeye
I literally was thinking the same thing when i watched it lol
im from bangkok and the caddies there are super good and nice
I wish I could play like this in junior tournaments they are so stressful
Stumbled onto your videos today, and I have not stopped watching. Your approach to the game makes so much sense, and I cannot wait to start implementing the tips, and for the first time in my life break 100. Wadda Teacher! Wadda Coach! Wadda Boytjie!! Looking forward to seeing more and more videos, I feel like an addict.
Love this! I'm 3 holes in... make sure you ENJOY the round. That chunky 7 iron (hole 2) may have been you not staying present. I love your mental game and it has already helped me tremendously but you gotta stay loose and have fun and still score! Not easy to do but my tip would be to have fun laughing with the caddies?
'no birdie, no tip'....I'm taking that wisdom to the weekend.
That's one of the rules of life
Caddies fault you suck at putting. Funny.
I hate when people make dumb jokes like that it’s actually pretty rude even though it’s obviously a joke

Watching your videos (along with Random Golf Club Films and Not a Scratch Golfer) has become a fundamental part of my pre-round routine. Thanks for all the great content! I truly believe my first sub-100 round is just around the corner.
thanks playa you have great taste
Swing is looking more silky and confident than ever, especially on the front 9! Love the videos! Seeing someone break 70 like this shot for shot gives me confidence I can do it too. Enjoyed the thoughts you shared on each shot as well.
Congrats on the excellent round! I've noticed that some of the courses you play have 3ft(?) rings around the holes. Is this standard in Thailand? Are these made with chalk or what? I wish my course had them.
They are normally chalked in and are called gimme bins round our way...don’t have to use them
@@robfitt234 Thanks Rob. I like hearing the ball go in the cup and I don't take gimmes but having that circle to aim for on lag putts could help.
I’ve been meaning to ask, with the new swing and clubs, does your back still hurt after a round?
No. But lately it has because gyms have been closed and I’ve neglected my work outs because of that
@@GolfSidekick my back hurt last year. Started doing Feet together drill, solved all back problems. Guess i was swaying and didnt know it.
Matt man! Whatta round, whatta playa! Been watching your videos for a while now and it has been awesome to see the progression. I value a lot of your mental advice, it’s something critical to the game that not enough people talk about and you do an excellent job of breaking it down shot by shot. Appreciate the content boyfriend!
Mic’d up Matt is the best kind of videos
No way your a 14 handicapper ! 😅 outstanding striking I loved watching it!
I love you watching
Same thought. I would guess 3 or 4 based on the videos I’ve seen. Even lower after this round!
Your Karen disclaimer is epic! 😂
LOL there are still a few Karens who think I am serious when i say "no birdie, no tip" poor idiots
@@GolfSidekick the internet is a dark place. For some reason the losers in life feel it’s their responsibility to go full Karen on everything.
Best golf channel on RUclips my man. Love the content
I love Dr. Bob Rotella as well. I can see his direct teachings throughout your videos which is cool because it's exactly how I play. but score around 80 at the moment.
“No birdie, no tip” 😂😂😂
5 birdie too much, have discount?
I got shot advice when i was over the ball on the third shot in the 17th which was unwelcome. It completely annoyed me and affected the shot i had chosen. I was told it runs way more than i expect. But i had expected the right amount. This all happened while i was getting ready to take the club back. I didn’t include it because it was a very negative moment
I broke 70 for my first round of gold ever. Of course if was a par 3, 9 hole course.
Watching all of your videos has been crucial to me improving my golf game. Shot 3 41s this week and usually shoot mid 90s for 18!
Thank you playa and that looks to me lime a future 80 coming!!!!
I really enjoy your style of commentary through your round, your channel name fits your content so perfectly. I'm going to try to take some notes prior to going out on my next round, and try to keep them as a mental checklist, thanks for the motivation brother!
what, keeping us in suspenders by suspending the birdie music on the 4th? editor no good!
20:27 that kind of unsolicited advice would have me mean-mugging someone for the rest of the round lol. People don't know how YOU play versus themselves, way to know your game playa
This great. I love listening to your shot by shot commentary. One thing you might add is your thought process for executing from funky lies. For example, your approach shot on number 12, you say beforehand you want to hit a baby draw onto the green but no discussion about how do you do that from the rough with the ball below your feet?
I wish I could like this video 10 times. Seeing you play truly great golf was an inspiration, Matt. I now know that if I can beat my ego, I too can play great golf. Thank you, Matt. Thank you for the work you do.
Excellent, hopefully my comparisoon video between this and my first round at Bangkok GC will be helpful to you
@@GolfSidekick looking forward to it! Hopefully you play as well as this in the next!

I watch your videos so much Matt, they have really helped my course management. Thanks man, you are the voice in my head when I pull the 3 wood but really need the 5 iron; when I see a 1 inch gap but need to take my medicine. Thanks for all your help. Golf is hard. It's still loads of fun though.
Nice playa
Congrats on the score my bru! Super solid no matter the course! Thanks for taking us for the ride. Really great to see your thinking behind a low scoring round like this

Bro, that playing partner of yours has got to get off your tee block until you're actually finished. That would drive me nuts.
Just start holding the finish for an obnoxiously long amount of time lol
We don’t care about that stuff
