Riot Games bought Radiant and they finished the game the best they could that would satisfy players and kickstarters before moving on to other projects in Riot. They gave reasons for the content that didn't make it into the game and 3 devs stayed working on it for about 4 months fixing bugs, helping with mod support and adding the few things that weren't ready when the game officially released.
Big difference between abandoning a game and being bought out and 'forced' to move onto something else. Frankly, they went above and beyond after they were bought out.. most would have just dropped it and said they 'made it' when getting picked up by a company as successful as Riot.
What happened to Radiant is not that they abandoned the game. It was crowdfunded. (I am one of said funders) The problem is Radiant started the production of a fighting game made by Seth Killian who left Santa Monica Studio's and it showed alot of promise. They were then bought by Riot. The fighting game was canned and the team that was working on it (and Seth) moved to a team to make a LOL related fighting game and the rest of the game devs were slowly moved to other things till the team working on Stonehearth was of very few people. Eventually, big daddy Riot pulled the plug and made them release the game but also put it directly into maintenance mode (ie only updates are to fix bugs). Knowing they let the community down they helped the community in modding the game and endorsed the mod your playing here as it plans to add all the stuff they couldn't. Radiant didn't want to abandon the game. Riot made them.
It's very naive to imply Riot are the bad guys and Radiant are just the poor developers. It was Radiant who made the decision to start a new game while Stonehearth was not yet complete. It was Radiant who agreed to (literally) sell out to Riot. Publishers like Riot are just doing what publishers do best, diversifying their games to maximize profit. Publisher practices might often be dubious, but Radiant were ultimately responsible for this game being abandoned (and as you say, they know it). Don't forget Radiant raised 700k in a kickstarter and then supposedly 4.5 million from an investor, and still were not capable of finishing the game. They deserve very little sympathy, if any.
@@Ash_18037 A development studio working on a single game is also terribly inefficient. Having the art people twiddle their thumbs is expensive. Putting another game in production means you can have your scripters work on game 1 while your backend developers prepare the next and the art people make concept art and so forth. It's just a sign that the studio was in trouble and had no other options.
There would be no game without RIOT to be fair...the crowdfunding would never really cover the cost of the game. On the other hand RIOT has endless deep pockets and could easy have funded the game to whatever end they wanted. But pulled the plug. No ammount of community support can really fill that void since the trust is broken and the game is always gonna feel a bit unfinished sadly. And endorsing a mod will always make the game feel second grade in nature sadly. And by my understanding RIOT mainly bought them for a patent related to fighting games. Not an actual product. But long time since i digged in this hole so i could be wrong. coming from someone with +1000 hours in the game.
Either way Radiant knew what was going to happen if they sold the company . it was Radiant's decision to sell out before the game thousands of people helped crowd fund was finished. they knew what they were doing and what was going to happen. I want to be a fanboy too but im not blind.
@@skinnahxx I dont think you can completely ignore the fighting game aspect in this story considering their involvement with Evo and Riots interest in that. And without seeing the contract we cant really know for sure. and i doubt anyone could turn down what Riot could offer :P Likely a lot more than the company was worth!
This game is phenomenal (even for what it is) - and so much fun - always sad to see games with a so much charm go unfinished. That said: the ACE team are doing a fantastic job at attempting to complete the vision. The goblins are super enjoyable, and a very welcome addition to the roster, as is the swampy biome! Some tips: For crafting - if you want an item to be at the top of the list Shift + Left-click on the craft button will automatically put it at the top of the orders list for the workshop. Goblins - can be a bit finicky when it comes to building (especially the goblin buildings - moreso than other races in the game, from what I've found) - Ctrl + C can be you friend (it is a "debug" command window of sorts - type "teleport" and move the selected goblin if they're stuck. In the swamp (and especially for goblins, because they can't farm) - watch out for your 'herbs' (flowers - violets specifically in this biome) - as you have to manage them manually - and you can potentially run out of them. Tree's can also diminish over time (but this is a very long term issue), as they don't always drop "seeds" for replanting (traveling merchants can offset this). Auto-Harvesting - due to the way the game treats "entities" and finding items by the actors (goblins in this case) this mod can be very bad news if you don't manage it properly, as the more items there are lying on the ground unaccounted for, the slower the game gets. It's a _very handy_ mod, but if you do end up using it, make sure you only enable it on one, or two plants/resources per type at the start, and enable more only when demand increases. In the ACE mod settings tab (there is a special section for it in the game settings) you can enable "Auto-harvest" for tree stumps! Very nice little addition! And speaking of "slowdown" in the game itself - this usually happens when you have a _LOT_ of items just lying everywhere - make sure you put items in chests, and make a "Generic" stockpile - for your hearthlings to move items to - the fewer places the game has to go "looking" for items, the easier it is in the performance! Hope these help some peeps! This game is a blast, been playing it for years!
Nice video! I think the water well is too close to the firepit though, they need extra space all around them to be useable, and also because they get larger when transformed to the upgraded types. You could make a new well, or move the firepit back a bit, if you want to.
There is a big problem with this game. Most of the time, villagers are just freezing at some point. I love it, but it's just unplayable after two hours of ingame. Hope that ACE will fix it, love Your content btw!
um this game wasn't abandoned.... the devs did all they wanted to with the game and passed on all the information to the ACE Mod team to keep adding more to it if they wanted
@@wolfcubb_ Because I had it for more than two weeks? The problems with the game only really become apparent after a few hours when performance drops completely. A lot of early backers are actually angry at this game and it's dev team (who no longer support the game). If I could have gotten a refund I would have.
At least you didn't "help" Kickstart it, like I did. Probably the worst experience I've had with KS. The devs were way over their heads and promised *substantially* more than they were capable of delivering.
It's a pity when promising games get abandoned by the devs. But you supporting and showing love to the modder communities is much appreciated!

As others said already: Radiant was bought.
The devs helped kickstarting this mod as far as i know. Its called "Authorized" for a reason.
it's a pity when someone saying something without checking facts.
The Swamp Goblins are a beautiful style in this Game. Please continue :D

Super Underrated Game, so much potential

Oh sure, Elves aren't acceptable, but you blindly leap into bed with egg laying goblins... PHILESTINE!
Real big fan of you doing these mod playthroughs on different games
The game wasn't abandoned. Riot bought them and made them abandon it.
Love this game please do a series
My recent village got recently wrecked pretty hard, so I think trying out this goblin mod looks fun!
Please keep the series going :D
3D Rimworld with adorable characters, I'm happy that I also own this game!
Probably the best description of the game.
Nice video, good to see more people making videos of SH :) I look forward to seeing more goblin adventures!
Abyssle should totally play this!

Ah! That would explain it
I've had this game on my watchlist for ages, wondering when it would be finished. Shame to learn the answer is "never".
You could still give it a try with the ACE mod, maybe you would like it.
Love the play through! I’ll watch more 😊

yay always love the stoneheart vids! great game, wish it was fully finished w/ achievements
Cool episode. I learned today what frogs eat: Just other frogs 🤣
Make it a series please
Looks like sort of Lemmings
WOW

Frogs eat insects, guess you'd say they're carnivorous because they eat other creatures instead of plants, not sure if all frogs eat insects tough
I don't know where to look to find the mod.
ACE came out a while ago bro
Shouldn't there be law, or any legal reason to prevent the developer from doing this?
LOVEN TIS STYLE Of Fanasty CONTENT! Swamp'z Are BEAUTIFUL Also IMPORTANTLY They FILTER DA SILT Out of RIVER'Z Stop LAND Eroding to the SEA!! 🌞💚🐨
I'm so incredibly sad that I ever spent money on this cash grab piece of crap.
why didnt you refund it then
