Thanks for the update. Just picked up a M6BT01 for my 03 Heritage. Looking forward to installing within the next few days.

Your welcome. It should work good for you. From what I've seen, it's the 2007 and later models that have had problems (BT07). In early 2015 they changed the spring length to fix the problem. Your BT01 should work well.

I put Hayden M6 on my 1989 FLHTC and put 30,000 miles on it. Never needed any adjustments. I plan on putting one on my 2018 FLHCS as soon as warranty expires.

I have one in my 2010 Ultra. It was checked when i changed the fluids & no problems. I don't however like that primary lubricant your using. I run Torco in mine with no problems. I'm going to switch to amsoil

Hi,I fitted a Hayden tensioner to my 2003 fatboy at 42,000 miles and was concerned about the 'whirring' noise.I took the primary cover off to double check the measurements and all was ok according to the fitting instructions.I've done around 4000 miles with the hayden fitted and there is still some whirring noise.I emailed hayden and they got back to me assuring me that as long as there was a 5/8 inch gap under the shoe it was a 'good install'.The bike runs really well and the hayden has definitely improved the finding neutral problem and smoothed out the gearbox but I can't help being a little concerned at the whirring noise as it does sound very similar to an over tightend primary chain.

We have a Hayden tensioner on my wife's 2006 Ultra as well as the one from the video on my bike. Hers uses the same model as your bike. Her primary has always had a whirring noise as well. I've inspected it and everything looks fine. Finding neutral on her bike is so easy it's scary. The M6-BT07 on my bike didn't make much difference in finding neutral but the one on her bike sure did. I did replace the inner primary bearing on her bike but I think it was going out before I installed the Hayden tensioner. I'm not so sure the HD automatic tensioner I had I there before didn't contribute to the inner primary bearing wearing out. At any rate, it made the same whirring sound with the HD bearing as it does with a Baker inner primary bearing.

+skydude426 I should also add that I'm not sure if the stock inner primary bearing I replaced was even bad yet. I was questioning it because I had done a 98" big bore an added considerable torque. The bike seamed to gain more of a first gear whine and sometimes was harder to shift into second and I was also concerned about the primary whine. I thought if I'm opening it up to check, I'm installing a Baker high torque bearing and being done with it. The stock bearing was very slightly dis-colored and seams a little loose to me but I don't know if it is actually bad. I still have it and the inner race laying on the work bench with the intention of asking someone who knows more about it than I do, but I haven't gotten around to it. The new bearing quieted down the first gear whine but the whining noise out of the primary is still there. I don't know if any of this helps or confuses. I would say if the noise stays the same or gets better I wouldn't worry about it but it's your ride.

I've got about 4,000 miles on it now with no problems and no unusual noises. I will probably open it up again before next riding season as I'm considering a new primary cover. If I do open it up, I'll post another video but I anticipate everything to look good.

I’ve run the Hayden tensioner son several Harley’s that I’ve owned from sportsters to shovelheads, Evos, and twin cams. I’ve never run the chain as tight as you are running yours. I wonder if that’s where the whine is coming from. I enjoy and appreciate your videos. Thanks.

Don't worry about the whining sound from tensioner. My Deluxe sounds the same with 40000 miles,no problems

Hi, Have you had any further problems with the Hayden tensioner, I fitted the M6 BT07 to my softail and have done approximately 150 miles but I think its excessively loud still. (I have had the clutch and primary bearings replaced by HD dealer who say noise is due to the hayden tensioner) . I measured and it was close to 3/8 as described in installation guide. Have also emailed Hayden at least 4 times and no response as maybe I need a different spring and of course contact number always goes to voice-mail, so can't speak to anyone.

I've got over 2000 miles on it now and I haven't had any problems. It's working just fine. The noise seams to be a little less than in my last video of the 500 mile check. I have no reason it open it up and check it yet, but based on performance I'm sure it's just fine. I'll open it up and check the shoe wear next time I change fluid.

+Robert Ingram I would think if you have close to the 3/8" gap at the bottom you are good to go.

I just did this install and the chain looks tight like yours. Would you (or anyone) reccomend going with only the one spring?

Jimmy_Jim_ Jim_1234 when I had the Hayden in my bike, the engine was a stock 103 and I had no problems with it at all. I had both springs in and it seemed to do the job just fine. After I installed a Zippers 107 Sport Kit, I started getting an occasional chain slap. I had a compensator failure on the road. The dealer I took it to insisted I let them replace the Hayden with a stock adjuster. I let them do it. After getting home I installed a Baker manual chain tensioner and I’ve liked that with my engine built up, no more chain slap. I guess the short answer is if your engine is stock and your using a Hayden tensioner, I’d leave both sprigs in and ride it.

@@skydude426 Thanks for taking the time to reply, much apreacted. Its cool that people from all over the place can share experiences and advice. Mine is a stock 96 with just a tune to make it run smother. I've no plans for any more mods. I'll learn from you're experience and will keep both springs thanks. Thats crappy it went out on you on the road. Is that due to the higher powered engine? Again... thanks

I can’t say for sure, but it would makes sense that the higher torque had something to do with it. I’m not a fan of the compensator in my 2012 anyway. Even this new one is clunky and noisy. I’m trying something different this year. I’m installing a compensator eliminator which is just a sprocket without the spring pack and opposing ramps. I’m planning on doing a video of the install and a report on what I think of it after riding it awhile all in one video. So it will be sometime in the middle of the summer before I post it.

What do you think of the S E compinsator???

    • @skydude426
      @skydude426  4 года назад

Jimmy_Jim_ Jim_1234 I don’t think much of them. One thing I’m doing to my bike this winter is removing my SE comp and installing a Twin Power compensator eliminator. I’m on a couple forums. Seems like a lot of people think this will scissor my crank or damage parts in my drive line but at the same time I couldn’t find any posts from someone who had a failure from running a compensator eliminator. I think it’s a lot of speculation without any experience so I’m going to go for it and see what happens and if I like it. I’ll probably put out a video after I’ve ran it awhile to tell what I think.

Can't believe harley davidson is still using a chain primary drive in lieu of a gear drive system.
