Modern Star Wars is not stuck in the past. The reality is fans want good stories involving the Skywalker family. Instead we got woke disjointed story telling by writers that just copied story elements from the first three movies. Making the force female was a disaster on so many levels. Lucas film took the last three movies and devastated the fan base with woke writing and very poor story telling. The fan base is beyond tired of woke Disney + shows with poor writing and over powered characters. I disagree entirely that Disney's problem is them trying to bottle nostalgia and sell it. Their issue is trying to repurpose nostalgia. The only moderate success they've had is by trying to capture that formula. The issue is they'll throw Luke into their new stuff and essentially say "hey, look, Luke is here! So that must mean this is good!" But it's not. It's still heartless trash. They want to use the past because that's the only thing that sells. But they would kill it if they could. Likely Rey is sticking around regardless actually, the next planned movie will be her training her apprentice for the next generation essentially she's the new Luke in the current timeline

I would like that, but it won’t happen. When I binge Star Wars, I just stop at episode 6. I don’t mind watching clone wars, bad batch, but I won’t watch the last 3 films again. The first of the sequels had potential, but seems they didn’t have a clue what they were doing with the trilogy. Maybe cause Kennedy had too much input in the film’s creativity. She is a producer, not a writer or director.
Better in Lucas hands yes I agree but I wouldn't even trust Lucas to bring Star Wars back. Movies like the Empire Strikes back had others that brought the movie to life and lets not forget he is getting a bit screwy in his older years making edits like the Han Shot First scene which never ever needed an edit and also takes away from Han's roguelike life. What Disney did to Luke Skywalker killed anything they made of Star Wars for me. I was a huge fan until then. I tried getting back into it but, never could after that. Luke was the hero to be idolized. He chose to not fight the dark side, not raise against his father, believing there was still good in him. His compassion saved the galaxy. Disney comes in and all of a sudden Luke has a bad dream and suddenly is going to murder his nephew because his dream told him his nephew was evil? Then he felt bad and became a hermit. It was stupid. He should have been more of a hero, training Rey, passing the torch. Then getting to Rey. She popped up and became amazing by..."magic"? She had no real growth or struggles that really led to her being a hero. It was a weak character with a weak story ark. Then Disney went off the rails with all of their shows. None were interesting, none really clicked or resonated. They have failed to make any interesting original characters. They bombed the franchise. In my opinion, the only way to repair the damage is to throw out everything that Disney has made in the franchise and start from scratch. Keep our heroes as heroes, not washed out losers. Make interesting new heroes with new dangers/threats they need to battle. Have a rebuilt Jedi Order, or growing Order, or some new order of force users that strive for peace. For as much as some fans complained about the Yuzan Vong, they were a new challenge for a new generation. Those legends novels grew the franchise in a positive way. Even if some of the heroes were killed off passing the torch, they remained heroes to respect until the end. The new heroes were great and also good heroes. How Disney dropped the ball so hard is insane to me.
The moment you look at Star Wars as "nostalgia" YOU HAVE FAILED. Look at the EU success of the 1990s... nobody wanted "nostalgia." They wanted great stories that matched the tone and continuity of the original trilogy. And honestly, it was NOT hard to do. All of Lucas's SW content--by him or by others--remained very successful ($32 billion in all) until the moment Kathleen Kennedy took over. SW isn't "falling apart," it's being TORN apart. Kathleen Kennedy is sacrificing EVERYTHING at the altar of her personal politics. KK and her entire staff MUST GO if Star Wars is to be saved.

It is a distorted nostalgia franchise under Disney that spends more energy on rewriting the past constantly instead of foraging a new future. That future should build a cohesive baseline on what came before and push forward.

Lucas film took the last three movies and devastated the fan base with woke writing and very poor story telling. The fan base is beyond tired of woke Disney + shows with poor writing and over powered characters. Disney has a gold mind in its hands with the greatest SYFY series in history but until they get rid of woke ideology, the force is female, and poor storytelling, Star Wars will continue to lose money. I disagree entirely that Disney's problem is them trying to bottle nostalgia and sell it. Their issue is trying to repurpose nostalgia. The only moderate success they've had is by trying to capture that formula. The issue is they'll throw Luke into their new stuff and essentially say "hey, look, Luke is here! So that must mean this is good!" But it's not. It's still heartless trash. They want to use the past because that's the only thing that sells. But they would kill it if they could. When I binge Star Wars, I just stop at episode 6. I don’t mind watching clone wars, bad batch, but I won’t watch the last 3 films again. The first of the sequels had potential, but seems they didn’t have a clue what they were doing with the trilogy. Maybe cause Kennedy had too much input in the film’s creativity. She is a producer, not a writer or director.
Better in Lucas hands yes I agree but I wouldn't even trust Lucas to bring Star Wars back. Movies like the Empire Strikes back had others that brought the movie to life and lets not forget he is getting a bit screwy in his older years making edits like the Han Shot First scene which never ever needed an edit and also takes away from Han's roguelike life. I mean if you want to add a few critters to make Mos Eisley seem more alive that is one thing but to change things to mess with the character that people saw on the big screen in their youth is another.

What Disney did to Luke Skywalker killed anything they made of Star Wars for me. I was a huge fan until then. I tried getting back into it but, never could after that.
Luke was the hero to be idolized. He chose to not fight the dark side, not raise against his father, believing there was still good in him. His compassion saved the galaxy.
Disney comes in and all of a sudden Luke has a bad dream and suddenly is going to murder his nephew because his dream told him his nephew was evil? Then he felt bad and became a hermit. It was stupid. He should have been more of a hero, training Rey, passing the torch.
Then getting to Rey. She popped up and became amazing by..."magic"? She had no real growth or struggles that really led to her being a hero. It was a weak character with a weak story ark.
Then Disney went off the rails with all of their shows. None were interesting, none really clicked or resonated. They have failed to make any interesting original characters. They bombed the franchise. In my opinion, the only way to repair the damage is to throw out everything that Disney has made in the franchise and start from scratch. Keep our heroes as heroes, not washed out losers. Make interesting new heroes with new dangers/threats they need to battle. Have a rebuilt Jedi Order, or growing Order, or some new order of force users that strive for peace.
For as much as some fans complained about the Yuzan Vong, they were a new challenge for a new generation. Those legends novels grew the franchise in a positive way. Even if some of the heroes were killed off passing the torch, they remained heroes to respect until the end. The new heroes were great and also good heroes.
How Disney dropped the ball so hard is insane to me.

Look at the EU success of the 1990s... nobody wanted "nostalgia." They wanted great stories that matched the tone and continuity of the original trilogy. And honestly, it was NOT hard to do. All of Lucas's SW content--by him or by others--remained very successful ($32 billion in all) until the moment Kathleen Kennedy took over.
SW isn't "falling apart," it's being TORN apart. Kathleen Kennedy is sacrificing EVERYTHING at the altar of her personal politics. KK and her entire staff MUST GO if Star Wars is to be saved.

It's the same problem people have with writers coming on to beloved properties. Too many industry writers believe that they cannot promote themselves without adding their own flair to projects. So beloved stories are all too often twisted into something unrecognizable to those who are familiar with the story and its lore.
There was also the expanded universe books, 📕 Come on people those books could’ve been adapted into movies and they weren’t to nostalgia. They could have led to amazing stories and everything but a certain woman and maybe certain people at Disney thought you can’t do that you have to go a different route and I think that was the worst idea they didand I agree. The only thing anyone who despises the Disney Star Wars era needs to say is “Disney had an already established continuation of the franchise (legends novels) and instead of following the established better stories they tried to remake it and ran the franchise into the ground.”

Disney ruined the Sequel Trilogy from the start, by undoing all the achievements of our beloved, established characters, and then destroying them so they could be replaced with their own new original characters. The only good Disney Star Wars is Rogue One and the Mandalorian (well, most of it), because they only enrich the story told in the first 6 movies that George Lucas created. The only thing that can save the franchise (and this is not likely to happen), is to declare the whole Sequel Trilogy non-canon, and start over using Lucas' ideas and Expanded Universe lore. Erase this whole First Order crap. My opinion as an old fan who truly loves the first 6 films, yes even the Prequels. He dicho.
