This was the perfect remedy to our Samsung oE error, the fix took about an hour (including cleaning all the parts) and turned out perfect. Thank you for saving us money, time and headaches!!!

Thank you. My washer had an 9E error code for months, I found a video on here on how to clear that issue, worked like a charm. Then I got a 5E code so I pulled apart the bottom section inside the washer looking for something clogging it and checking the valve. After cleaning everything I tried turning the machine on again, this time I had an LE code. Apparently while I was trying to fix the 5E I got water underneath. So, I decided while I was underneath drying things out I would also check for any blocks. Yep, right where you had yours, I had a broken tab lodged perfectly blocking the line. Put it back together, turned it on, no codes!! I'm so thankful for the people who post all these tutorials. Even a female who knows nothing about appliances can fix things.

You Sir are a genius! I just followed your instructions and replaced the check valve and found plastic barbs and glass in the vanes of the pump underneath. All working now. Thank you so much.

We have an older model Samsung. When my daughter and I took the hose off of the back/bottom, we saw the black rubber piece inside a transparent cover, along with two large, rusted screws! A complete clog. Three hours later (because the transparent housing which the hose connects to was literally a large welded, plastic piece) we removed the clog and were back up and running! Thank you for heading us girls in the right direction!!

I just wanted to say, thank you so much for this video, my daughter and I were able to find this piece of the valve stuck in a hose, and we never would have found it without this video! It felt great to not have to call a plumber and to accomplish this on our own, as a single mom, that’s priceless, thank you again!

Mr Way. Thanks a lot for this video. After opening my one and a half year old Samsung dishwasher, I couldn't figure out where the clog was. Air was flowing through (blowing in the exhaust would make bubbles in the dw) but the dishwasher wouldn't switch water from circulating inside to draining. Per your video I just inserted my finger in the direction of the pump to find an olive seed stuck inside. Works like it's brand new now. My dishwasher is not the same model as yours but I think they all have the same conception defect. People like you who share their knowledge are awesome. Thanks again Sir!!!

I watched your video and this was exactly what our Samsung dish washer problem was. While watching and stopping your video at each step worked perfectly. a black rubber check valve was stuck in our drainage hose. I tore it apart and my wife could see the black rubber piece and she was able to pull it out with a pair of tweezers and we are up and running...Thank You!

Hey thanks a lot for this video. This is exactly what happened to me except my check valve was a little higher in the tube. Didnt realize it was actually there until i put a clothes hanger up there for safe measure, very thankful i fished it out the first try or i would have omitted that as the problem. Really appreciate you saving me from buying a new dishwasher. Cheers!

    Thank you for video.
To focus better do NOT zoom. Zooming is for FAR distances. I know you've probably zoomed in before and it's worked. But it's not. Higher end ones can but most do not. Just keep it normal and physically bring yourself closer.
For the part you were trying to zoom in on at close range. Again make sure you do NOT zoom. Center it and if your camera won't focus at that close range with the lighting you have then pull the item back until it can stay focused and keep it there.
This video is years old but hopefully anyone else reading this will also get it.
Again, thank you for video and the solution. You've probably helped a LOT of people. God bless

Wanted you to know this video is still helping folks in 2021. I used it to fix the same problem. My check valve did not break, rather twister and deformed to the point that unit would not drain properly. Didnt even have to remove or disconnect the unit, just removed the filter and found the diaphram shoved down in the drain hole. My wife had already picked out a $700 Bosch that we won't be purchasing.

i wanted to add my thanks here for your video. i found this DW at best buy for $50!! the sales guy told me no one would buy it because it was so low. i think i understand why it's so cheap now ;-)
anyway - your video was incredibly helpful. it didn't solve my problem, but it was good enough to give me the courage to go check for the drain pump error as you described it, and that taught me that i could take this apart and put it back together in jig time. i would have taken this one step further and shown how to take of the drain pump to check if any of those plastic tabs were in there. that was the case with mine. i simply disconnected the drain pump, pulled out the @#$%ing tabs, put it back together and all set :-)
one additional warning - when you go to remove the drain pump, be *very* careful to properly lift the locking tab that allows you to twist the drain pump off the DW, lest you break it. ask me how i know ;-)
anyway - great job - and thank you.

Thanks for your help, great video. I disconnected the drain line at the garburator and blew back into the dishwasher. The hose was completely plugged so I go out my shop vac and with a small nozzle and I was able to clear the drain hose with suction. The check valve still looks good but would like to replace it soon, would you happen to know the part number? On another note I find the debris screen needs to be taken out and brushed clean every couple of months as the dishes come out dirty and yes we do pre rinse the dishes before they go in but maybe not good enough. Is this just a bad design???

I have this same dishwasher and I can also confirm that it's a piece of junk. Not two months after getting it we started smelling a horrible odor of rotten food whenever we opened the door. That was 4 years ago, and every few months I have to take everything apart and clean the parts and the bottom. It gets so disgustingly gunked up. I see that same thing in your video. We had Best Buy service technicians here multiple times to look at it and got a different excuse every time, but none of them ever said it should be replaced. Now it's out of warranty and we're stuck with it.
This 5E error is just the next fun thing in a long line of fun things.

Andrew, my Samsung DW80F600UTS also was not draining. I was getting flashing lights at the AUTO SMART & HEAVY parts of the circuit board. I took your advise and removed the many screws in the screen cover and looked for the grey plastic cover piece at the right of the heater element. Under it was the optical sensor and the 1/4" steel temperature sensor rod. The optical sensor looked pretty good but the temp sensor had gunk on it. I cleaned them both and re-assembed the machine. All works great now, thanks for your help…..

John, I found the check valve like you showed on the video AND another piece of round black rubber piece that has a "30" on one side and a rectangular opening on its edge. I wish I can add a picture here to show you. I don't think it is part of the check valve. I do not know where that has come from. It looks like some part which came loose, not broken off like the check valve.

100% found the flap in front of the pump - did not want to hunt for it but it is the right thing to do.
The only thing I would add - my bad - is to shut down the water - remove the supply and return hoses from the garbage disposal before pulling the unit from under the counter. I cracked the return hose, at the clamp on the unit, by tugging on it - so had to order the $40 part and was delayed a few days. It was only a little crack but remember -
Do it once do it right, do it wrong do it twice, and pay ten times.
There was also quite a bit of yuck under the door - run your finger with a paper towel along the underside of the door - can't see it but it is there - part of the bad smell. I was working on an LG
Thank you for posting this - DIY dishwasher repair
ps - as a side note there was a hole in the wall - poor construction - the mice got in and left droppings - under the shield, on top all over. Because of the smell the discharge hose and other parts are natural for them to chew - I am sure it is warm too. I cleaned and sanitized blocked off the opening and hopefully have discouraged them from returning - there is no substitute for a visual inspection.

THANK YOU! I actually love my Samsung dishwasher. I bought an R 800 a few years ago and this is the first issue I have had. It is the 5E error. I have treated it gently because I had only had much older dishwashers. I appreciate this one, however, I need it to work! While I want to do this myself (cost is a factor), I also need to be safe doing so. When it comes to electricity, the circuit breaker box is not well IDed. But, I can turn the dishwasher on and shut the breakers off until it has no juice! :-)

Thanks just fixed my sisters dishwasher , she had replaced those brackets two years ago , but I only had to remove filter screen (dozen screws) and in plate with impellers etc, there is a hole from top to bottom of plate was full of ????? solid sludge, and found broken clip in bottom . Was intermittent no drain so I think broken clip was flosting up or sucked up against that sludge and pressure of pump would keep it there and then no drain but next time it would work. Thanks again

    Hi John,
Thank you for taking the time to make this video. Could it be better...sure..BUT at least you took the time to make and share it and in my opinion this provided a very good overview of how to get into the unit, check the drain line and fix the problem. I don’t have the error code but I wanted to know in general how to disassemble our Samsung and clean and check drain line....our tabs have broken multiple times and I have industrial zip ties holding the brackets in place LOL and I change them about once every 6 months...cheaper than $60 brackets which continue to break :(
We also have the high pitches squeal which seems like the door fan but haven’t narrowed down just yet...
Keep up the good work...and for those of you who complain about the quality of the video or camera work....please post your repair video for the unit....oh wait...you didn’t make one...go figure.
    Have a great holiday John!

I have a drain error (flickering “Delicate”) during a cycle. However the drain works fine with “Cancel and Forced Drain”. I am about to open up to check what happens underneath the screen.

I found my rubber valve at the end of the drain tube! Fortunately I didn't have to take the dishwasher out! My question is do you have to replace the rubber valve ? Will it cause other problems by not having it in there?

You Sir, saved my day! Only my machine is even dumber than your typical samsung DW, the pump is hidden behind a flooring tab!

Is there supposed to be a check valve in the drain hose as well? The check valve that you show in this video is in place but it looks like I have rubber (looks like a check valve) in my drain hose.

There isn't a check valve in the drain hose... unless it's a broken piece. This video shows how to find and remove the broken piece.

Our circuit board died twice. And now I'm on the floor taking out all of these pieces as the video author demonstrates. I wonder if anybody has thrown a brick through Samsung HQ. Wouldn't surprise me. Truly - this (as the video author States) is a piece of junk. At least if it were a little better you could call it a dumpster fire - which - at least has a possible purpose of keeping you warm. This machine? No useful purpose, as sitting on the kitchen floor all weekend is not usefull. Everyone here needs to discourage all Humanity to never buy anything Samsung again, weather it's a TV, phone, construction equipment, or refrigerator. Special place in hell for all Samsung engineers & corporate heads that allow them to make such trash.

John - I followed your video, which was perfect, and found my check valve to be intact. I even pulled the dishwasher completed, checked the hose on the bottom for anything that could be blocking it and nothing. I attempted to run the dishwasher without the check valve in place as well - and still receive the 5E Error after a good 30 minutes of the dishwasher running. Do you think it could be the drain pump? We've only had this dishwasher for about 2 years.

in my case all the hoses were clear but I found the date seed in the drain pump, I took it out and it was working fine. No drain error.

I have a different model Samsung but the basics are the same with the exception of the check valve. My dishwasher had the check valve built into the drain hose connected to the pump. I had removed the hose to fix a leak and didn't realize it would only work one direction. I flipped the hose around and all worked fine. Thanks for aiming me in the right direction.

    • @LifeHappensLetsFixIt
      @LifeHappensLetsFixIt  2 года назад

As long as they're not found in the drain line you should be fine. If they're small enough, they might have made it through to the drain.

While you were waiting for your check valve to arrive, how did your dishwasher run? I have a leak error on my dishwasher and the first thing I noticed is that my check valve was damaged. Water is now backflowing into the dishwasher through the drain hose and I keep getting water in the leak detector pan.
I'm going to check the drain hose on the bottom of my unit tonight and check for foreign matter in the hose. Luckily, I don't think I'll to disconnect the romex cable or the water hose because I have more than enough ran to pull my unit out while they're still connected.

I never replaced my check valve and I haven’t had any trouble with back-flow. Hopefully it’s another blockage causing your back-flow issue and removing that will get you back in business.

You said you were going to order the checkvalve and do a trial run without it and see what happens. Did you and did it work? Samsung needs to stick to phones. My house burned down and I bought all Samsung appliances after it was rebuilt. Washer, dishwasher over the range micro all broke down within 2 years.

I hate my Samsung dishwasher! Total POS. In fact, our reasonably new Samsung fridge is going out on us too. Never again. We would have been much better off spending a little more for a better brand. For some reason the salesmen at Best Buy really push this brand. Thanks for the video.
