      That is so awesome!!! We completely understand doing a different style! In our first home we lived in a small neighborhood with a 1/4 acre back yard. We had a small greenhouse that was about 6'x8' we bought. It served very well for our needs for years -- even though we didn't know what do to with it back then. LOL That being said... we're still learning for sure so aren't experts by any stretch! LOL

    I'm a mom. After we rented a Home Depot auger for an Eagle Scout project ( local Harbor Freight was out of stock) I bought one on line. Apparently they are hard to keep in stock. I got it for my now 20 year old son to repair hurricane damaged fence and when the tree guy never showed he cut up a tree and augered around the stump and we finally were able to pry it out of the ground. He's a small guy and is able to start and use it easily. It takes a 25:1 mixture so I get the 50:1 premix and then fill the container with ethanol free gas. Home Depot auger didn't require a mix. The premix at Home Depot has extender in it. Those little engines get gummed easily. Ethanol free gas is sold at marinas in NC. A lady below wondered if she could run one of these and I'd find it hard to get started but it always starts for him. I paid $165 with a coupon. I love your videos! Here's a site that shows ethanol free sources. www.pure-gas.org/

    Great stuff it's going to be a fabulous greenhouse . You won't regret it they do say get the biggest you can afford and I love mine. I would say if 8ts in direct sun it will need soon sort of shading in high summer if you have plants in there. Otherwise they will scorch we are in the UK and have to use some shading . X

      Woah! 36" frost line! Brrrr..... 😎 On paper, ours is 18" but I can't remember the last time our ground froze hard and lasted through the following day's sun.

    • @TheWoodHaven
      @TheWoodHaven 4 года назад

      @@sam-and-angela Yeah, that's on paper here too. But TBH, it hasn't gotten that cold here in over 10 years. Plus the last 3 years we haven't even gotten any big 18" snow storms that used to be normal. It has actually been raining a lot over winter. It's really weird. I did have 2" of snow on the ground last week, but it was gone by the next day.

    I'm kinda familiar with the 3 4 5 method of squaring your corners. I built a two car garage in 1997. My first big project ever. The man who came with his backhoe to dig the footer for the foundation used this type method, except he used a 6, 8, and 10 equation, which is just double your scale. Worked out perfect for my 24' x 32' building.

    Oh boy! HF and a new tool and fun fun fun! I love tools and when I get to HF for project items, I have to be held back. LOL I used to work with dad in his shop back in the dark ages but oh what fun, he showed me how to use so many of his hand tools. I'm excited to see the greenhouse and we need one here but the longevity of US may not be worth the spending the money so we shall continue to container garden. I am soooooo excited for you guys and Angela to get her dream and having you both work on it together is just what you do and I think it's awesome. Good luck and when things get frustrating, take a break for a cool iced tea or whatever and chill and get a new perspective for things and you will get it done post haste! LOL Excited as I said before! Got your starter seeds in Angela? LOL I truly am excited for this and to watch your journey!

    loving the greenhouse idea much better use of $$$ right now - food or sitting on a deck - food wins - don't forget good airflow in the greenhouse to hot will also burn the plants - you are going to need canning supplies if you don't already have them before they run out as well so I would start looking for them now and they will last you the next 20 years and a good how to canning book and a water bath for canning - in New Zealand our freezer prices have increased by 28% in 30 days

    Will you make a drain trench for the greenhouse? Collect rain water off the roof for watering plants? Is there a plan for a fan to circulate air so it doesn't get too hot?

  • @dper1112
    @dper1112 4 года назад

    If you have a string rectangle, you can measure the two diagonals and tweak to fit. With a small size like that, it would be pretty quick but use a bunch of string. In that case, you'd start off with only four stakes on the exact corners, cut string to correct length for the four sides, attach the string to the stakes, lay everything out by using your tape measure to check each diagonal, and then later put the stakes on the outsides of those.

    Hi Sam. I was wondering if you would consider installing one or two windows up high, along with automatic window openers. Like the ones used in greenhouses. That way your workshop could already be venting before you get there to work, and it would be electricity free?

    I take into consideration that you live in a wind swept place , if you built a one sided greenhouse, would that not have more chance of being blown down , the one side being solid and getting buffered by the wind ? a pitched roof will not only look great but wont have the problem of buffering to the wind , it should skim over ?
