Things we did NOT show in the video: We did pour concrete throughout the entire cinder block wall, we added strong bracing for the roof rafters, we installed a gutter to collect rainwater and we built benches for the inside of it. Thanks for all the feedback from everybody, it has been amazing through blizzards, small hurricanes, wet heavy snow and more!
would love to see an update on everything when you have time,Gods peace!
Well done you two! It looks great. 👌
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it!
Amazing build! Love the time lapse.
your greenhouse is beautiful, thanks for sharing!!
Thanks so much! 🙂
Well done! Always appreciate it when couples work as a team and they get things done together.
Amen!
I'm loving how you work together ...missing my sweetie
Thank you
That's a fabulous greenhouse! Happy planting!🌱🌿💚🙏
Thank you!
The big accomplishment is you guys did it all by yourselves . No fighting ? My gf of 20 years woulda pushed me off a ladder or outright threatened me , at least a little , you guys should be very proud . You have a beautiful home
Hahaha that’s hilarious! There were definitely some, shall we say,“interesting” moments but we made it through! Thanks for watching
This is a great greenhouse! You two work well together
Thank you! We also work together at the same place of work, so years of practice ! Haha
I'm so glad I can across your video. I just love your greenhouse!
Thanks! Glad you like it !
I love how you both done this. Looming to build a GH and I think this will with stand our winds from the hurricanes
Thanks :) We have not gotten any crazy winds yet to test it out but it feels very strong!
This is one of the most beautiful greenhouses! You guys are pros. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks so much! We definitely do not consider ourselves pros but appreciate it! I’m happy with it as long as my plants are
Nice job I will check out some of your other videos✌
Glad you liked it! hope you enjoys the others too, there are some random goofy ones!
@@FolkRockFarm we all have them videos in our past🤣
Love this! I'm going to have to borrow this idea when designing my combo greenhouse/screenhouse!
Thanks! Love the combination idea!
How cool, thank you so very much for the great idea!
Your welcome, have fun with it! thanks for watching too
Great greenhouse build! Thanks for sharing!
No problem! Thanks for watching !
I love it! Sturdy and will give you many many years of growing seeds . Very happy for you guys
Thank you so much! I’m glad you enjoyed it 😊
I love your green house. I love the design of it. It's like modern but simple and it will last for a long time with the foundation being concrete.
Thank you ! Those were all the characteristics we were going for! :)
Hope you put up a coop walkthrough as well. Great job on the design and build.
Ooo that's an idea! we might have to think about incorporating that, especially for winter, they'd help keep some heat in there.....at least until they ate all our plants! glad you liked it
@@bubbaloozy9253 Hahah yeah on second look I completely misunderstood the intent behind that one! Thanks, and sure we'll do a coop walkthrough at some point
Just realized you must have meant a coop walkthrough video haha, we can absolutely post one
Great one guys. Your best one yet!! Hope yall get to do more build videos!
Thanks a lot! We're farmers and orchardists first and foremost, but I'm sure there will be more build videos through the years as we learn more and get better at it. I might give a walkthrough of the chicken castle soon so stay tuned, thanks for watching!
Love the greenhouse!
Thanks a bunch, glad you like it!
Awesome build you guys, can't wait to see more. 💚👍👍🐔🐔
Thanks glad you liked it! at some point in the year we hope to put in a big raised bed inside to overwinter a lot of things, so stay in touch for more
great job guys now enjoy and grow much food in your greenhouse.
Thanks Rocco!
great work.
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it!
This is amazing!
Thanks!
Beautiful greenhouse, I’m hoping to build one too some day. Hope you’re two will have much use out of it, Happy planting
Thanks a lot! So far it's working wonderfully, and I hope you get yours someday too! Thanks for watching
Really good job folks
Glad you enjoyed, thanks for watching!
We just finished our greenhouse too! We are in the tropics, so the design is different from yours but it's great to come across like-minded people with similar goals. Good luck growing things in there!
Thanks a lot! thats one thing i love about the homestead culture, not matter how far away we may be it feels like such a tight knit community. Thanks for being a part of it :)
Wow....that turned out awesome!!! That'll grow y'all a ton of food for sure!! Watching to see what comes of it....the brick does indeed look pretty badass🍺
Yeah we're pretty pumped with how it turned out, a bit surprised to be honest since we're growers first, not carpenters. we're hoping to build a big raised bed inside too so we can really grow throughout winter, thanks for watching! just checked out your pawpaw grafting video, good info! Pawpaws are awesome
New subscriber, love how you did your greenhouse. Thank you for sharing. Yoir friend from Michigan. Till next time God Bless.
Glad you liked it :)
Keep up the excellent work! This really was truly informative and extremely satisfying to watch! I hope to see more in the future, God bless you guys!
Thanks for checking it out! We hope to make plenty more videos,so stay tuned. Hopefully we'll talk again in the comments, my friend
What a great job
Thank you!
Nice! I really enjoyed your video! Great music. Hopefully y'all enjoy the greenhouse for years to come 💙💚
Thank You :) I hope so too!
Thanks for the music shoutout, here is the band channel if you wnt to check out our first album, the next one is being recorded!
If you are going to use it in the Fall and Spring Bubble wrap is great insulation. It doesn't take much to keep on the walls and ceiling. The air pockets in the wrap is the insulating factor.
I had not thought of using bubble wrap, that's a good idea!
Nice job! beautiful greenhouse!
thanks for watching!
Such an amazing video!! 🙌🏻🙌🏻
Thank you ☺️
Great! We are going to build our greenhouse on your plan, TY for sharing.
No problem :) Good luck!
Well done. Good job. Good idea
Thank you kindly :)
great job
Thanks!
Cracking build you two it looks brilliant, i wish i had the room to build one myself instead of those small ones that we bought on-line.
Stay Safe,
Barry (ENG)
Thanks for watching Barry, glad you enjoyed it! How has yours been working for you?
I Love it I'm gonna steal a little of those ideas because here in NC these Winds So Brutally Strong 😮💨😍 Thank U!
Please do :) Glad we could inspire
Great job! Love it !!!👍🏼😉💜
Thank you!! 😊
Great job!
Thanks!
Love it! It looks sturdy and tidy. I may adapt this design to be a solar powered firewood storage shed in the future.
That sounds like a good idea! I hope it goes well for you, thanks for watching!
That’s a pretty cool design. Hopefully it gives you many years of usefulness! The only thing I might’ve done different is have the roof slant away from the door so water doesn’t run gushing on you as you enter.
I was just commenting the same but I understand that they may have done that because the front of the green house is facing the sun. lf it were possible, I would place the door on the side, just to avoid having to install gutter.
Thanks for the feedback! We did consider slanting the roof in the other direction , but the angle of the roof made most sense this way for sunlight and we do plan on putting gutters on it to collect rain water to use for our greenhouse plants !
Good music, great greenhouse!
Thanks, we really appreciate it!
SO incredible!!!! Nice work!
Thanks a lot!
Very nice
Thank you!
It’s beautiful, I just sent it to my son, 😊
Thank you!
Nice job.
Thanks!
I want land, *just* so I can build this! This is awesome you guys, congratulations and may your fruit/veggies be plentiful!
Haha thank you so much, we hope you find some acreage to live out your dream!
Oh wow this is just totally awesome I've been want my husband to build me a greenhouse and we talked about purchase one but I really want my husband to do it and I will help. Because it's more personal And the keepsake when you do it DIY. I show him this 1. Thank for sharing
No problem! I agree, I think there is something special about building it yourself, and you can alter it however it can benefit you! We looked into greenhouse kits, but this turned out cheaper (even with inflation going crazy!) and I think it will perform better!
Wait till the wind hits that thing, those blocks will start to move
@@scottulbrich5376 We've since filled in all of the blocks, we just didn't have the concrete until after the video, it does look a bit misleading
Wendy - Please do more searching. While the video is well documented and the couple seem really nice, the design is just filled with many methods that are just flawed, and some fatally.
Nice work well done 👍
Thank you
Nice design thanks for sharing have a Happy Easter
Thank you! You too!
Really nice thank you for sharing I am looking for a way to build a greenhouse in that looks like a good one
Thanks for watching! :) I hope it goes well for you!
looks very nice
Thank you!
Great video I would love to build this! New friend thanks for sharing 👍🏻
Thanks!
Wow. Awesome greenhouse. Congratulations. I´ll make benchmark with this video for personal projects. Thanks.
Glad it was helpful!
I have been watching y'all on my husbands channel on our home tv and can never leave a comment... So I subscribed to your channel.🤩
Y'all did a Awesome Job on the greenhouse and I love how they little windows open! 😉
Why thank you! I am very thankful to whoever made those automatic window openers, comes in handy when you are busy on the homestead!
Love the music! Just found your channel. Great job on the greenhouse. I like the design and the wider door is clever.
Thanks so much!
Thanks for liking the music as well, our whole first album is up on this page here
Thank you for sharing, i like the design greenhouse, good job 👍.
Thank you!
That’s a great idea to make the walls which I have never thought about it.
Thanks, it's doing a great job so far
Nice good job 👍
Thanks 👍
Very nice green house.
Thank you 😊 it has served us very well! We currently have baby greens growing 🥬
How wonderful
Thanks for watching!
Love the greenhouse. You guys did a great job. A vine or climbing rose would look great against that back wall. You could even esplanade a fruit tree against it.
Thank you! You and Rory think alike because a fruit tree was the first thing he thought of doing there!
Espalier---a word autocorrect probably doesn't know!
great job! Beautiyfull 😍
Thanks for watching!
Good Luck to you on the progress you make on your homestead and channel growth.
May this year be filled with health, happiness, prosperity , fertile chickens & a successful gardening season

That's a really nice sentiment, we wish you all the same :) thanks for the support!
You guys want to come to South Carolina and build me one? Lovely Greenhouse🥰
Thank you :)
Love this....hope you show how you fill the cracks of the block.....
sure we'll do an update video when we actually finish it haha, there's always so many things to do!
New here, yt suggested this video. This really blew up for you guys
Every time I log in I am like wow another 100 views! I am glad we decided to film and share this, I was hoping to inspire some more diy greenhouse builders !
BEAUTIFULLLLLLLLL !!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you!!
Yes the blocks move if not on a solid base. We made a 3 tier cement block raised bed lean to greenhouse on the end of our house. It’s unheated and we raise greens for winter use in it.
Good to know, thanks for the info!
LOVE from South Alabama. Great job.
Thank you :)
Wow... My best friend, Nice video... Beautiful place Enjoy watching this video... Have a nice day.
Thank you! You too!
Awesome job guys!
Love the passive design.
I'm sure your plants will be very happy in there.
Can't wait for an update video this summer.
Where abouts are you guys located?
Happy gardening!
Cheers
Thanks ! We live in New England
Very nice!! I was searching for ideas for greenhouse designs the other day and this video came up as a suggestion today lol better late than never! Subbed too!
Glad to hear you liked it, hope your build comes out great!
Gute Arbeit zusammen, frohes schaffen!
Thank you!
Понравилось видео! 😊
Thank you 😊
Nice build, besides the choice to dry stack those blocks. I'd imagine the wind blowing right through the cracks.. could be remedied by filling the rest of the wall with concrete though..
Thanks! And yeah we didn't show it on the video, but we've since filled the rest of the block cavities and joints. We may even add a stucco skin at some point too
awesome build New subscribers
Thank you!
Great job! Looking forward to the planting.
Thank you! :)
I can definitely endorse working together, if you have sufficient humility and grace. You seem also seem like really nice people. That being said, there really are many flaws in the design.
1. The walls need to be attached to the foundation. A 1/2” hammer drill and rebar is a simple method for a simple structure with an existing slab, though there are better ways for standard construction.
2. You apparently went back to fill all the voids with concrete. And easier method would be to skin the blocks with a fiber modified mix because it’s a simple structure.
3. When mixing concrete, the more water you add the weaker the finished product. The drier the better. You really need to vibrate the concrete a lot or air voids will remain and weaken the concrete.
4. Concrete also takes a month to reach full strength. It needs several days to get to working strength even with high early concrete. You won’t notice, but premature stressing of the concrete will create micro cracks that will grow and cause failure.
5. People think of concrete as drying but it really goes through a chemical process, hydration, that requires water. If it doesn’t stay wet, it won’t gain full strength.
6. You should prewet the forms, especially blocks like you used. Otherwise the blocks suck moisture out of the mix leading to weaker concrete.
7. Placing wood inside the blocks will lead to rot in the wood, even pressure treated wood.
8. Placing wood inside the block also means the tiny amount of concrete is non structural. Really better to put a metal connector (24” straps with 18” embedded?) in the concrete and then attached to the posts.
9. Rather than insetting the 2x4’s between the posts, attach them 4” high on the exterior of the posts. See structural post and beam construction. Much stronger, less cutting or room for error.
10. Joists should be stood up with bird’s mouth at the walls. Check out links to building codes for appropriate sizing. Looks like you probably needed 2x6’s, especially if cold enough for bibs/snow.
There’s probably more, but I’m tired.
Very good advice. I was wondering about the long-term structural integrity because of the way the blocks were assembled then the posts placed inside and crete poured around and into the void. Bad for the wood and bad for the integrity of the project. However, they did put a lot of work into this project and for the short term, it should serve it's purpose very well.
This geeenhouse is perfect. I will built one myself
Glad you enjoy it, we sure do! I hope your build goes great too, i'd love to see it
Right on looks good guys ! I take it that it's for spring Starts mostely ? Wishing you both a wonderful and abundant season ahead !
Yes our focus will be for spring starts, propagating plants and overwintering hardy greens! We are going to try to keep some heat loving plants in pots over summer to see what happens, I’m excited to see if I can get my passion flower to fruit!
Tolles Video und ein schönes Gewächshaus, Grüße aus Deutschland
Thank you from America
cool. You might want to sister the rafters, and put the 2x4's, with the thin side up, in case there is ever a snow load. We had an 1800's house, with the 2x4's laying flat on the floor, and there was a bounce and sag to the floor.
Yeah definitely. we’ve since done some good bracing on the roof, we knew we would need to but didn’t get to it for this video. Thanks for checking it out! We’ll post an update on it soon
Love watching you build this because it's going to be something I look back to in the future since I want a green house, but I do have say you have beautiful quads and I am envious! Anyb secrets or do you work out on a specific plan? I've been trying to build my quads for years.
Thanks! I have just always had thick quads! Runs in my family. But constant farm work helps :)
Nice greenhouse! Love the design! Curious about a few things, didn't see you use motor on the blocks and was curious if I missed it and if not does the wood stable it? Also curious approx what all the materials run for it and the size. I have been looking at the plastic ones and worry about their stability and life span but this fits all needs w plenty of room! Have u thought about guttering and water storage for use in the greenhouse? I have seen some w those and thought that would also be a good convenience when planting. Thanks for sharing and being an encouragement to others!
Thanks for watching! We have ended up filling the blocks with concrete and putting mortar in the joints, we'll also skin the entire outside with a thick primer and paint to seal it all. It's 12 feet by 12 feet. The plastic was pretty expensive, about 1,500 dollars, but we did get extra pieces in case we messed up so it could have been cheaper. Lumber prices are also really high right now so that hurt. We're looking into gutters and rain barrels now to catch the water for use. Thanks for the thoughts and encouragement!
I was thinking on the back wall you could do solar heaters (pop tins or laundry dryer tubing and plexi glass) There are videos on You Tube.
Great idea, thanks for sharing!
Genialne;)
Thanks 😉
Such great skills & precision. Thanks for being inspiring
Thanks for the encouragement and i'm glad we could inspire! hopefully we'll get better each build, we've learned a lot on this one of what to do and also what NOT to do :)
Loved the idea and build. Disliked the camera handling. Had to pause several times to see the detail and recover from dizziness and uncross eyes. We're going to build similar, except the back wall in our property is facing south so the front/door side is higher and solid wall, which is in my opinion better because when it rains or condenses, we won't get dripped on when walking in (otherwise, we'll have to do gutter over the door).
Would you suggest cladding the back wall with either metal or foam with reflective alum foil? I also am debating if I should use semi opaque and white plastic corrugated since I read it's diffusing and reflecting light better than clear sheets of polycarbs, which was supposedly better for plants. What do you think?
Hahaha yeah the camera hand is a work in progress!! Eventually we’re going to install a gutter for the front, we would’ve put the door in the back but the plan is to build up a raised garden bed inside along the back wall with reflective material on the wall for winter. And that’s interesting to hear about the different poly you mentioned, I’ll have to look into that! Thanks for the info, glad you liked the build and I hope you love your greenhouse too!
Please do a tour of the coop.
Will do!
Im impressed! Do you have any useful tips for building the same structure near the gulf coast of Florida?
glad you like it! For your area with hurricanes I would suggest sturdier framing and attaching the concrete to the foundation with rebar, which someone suggested for us. I'm not sure ours would stand up as well to a hurricane! Thanks for watching
Congratulations on the greenhouse build it looks superb you both did an excellent job , are you going to paint the blocks outside ? Cheers 🍻
Cheers back at you! glad you like it, and we've been going back and forth about painting them. we were thinking of painting them black to get more heat retention in the winter, but we've grown to love the look of them as they are so we'll see!

Please show a video of your chicken coop. In slightly warmer weather, you may be able to use the upper part of the chicken coop as. greenhouse as well. It looks like it would protect seedlings from wind and get some solar gain. Thanks.
We will have a video of the coop in the future!
Thank you for the video. It showed a mechanical window opener, how does it work as automatic (no battery or power)?
There is a black rod that expands as it absorbs heat. The expansion opens the elbow attached to the window and pushes it out. You can even set it to certain temperatures ranges so it opens earlier or later in the day. From Johnny's Selected Seeds in New Hampshire
