  • Today I took my very first trip out to the Universal Studios water park known as Volcano Bay! As someone who has been well over 300 pounds the last few years I purposefully avoided visiting this water park because of the weight limits on the water slides. Today we finally pay for a day ticket and take a closer look at what we could and could not ride in this water park if you're over weight or fat.

As someone near 280, I love this man. I haven't been on a coaster in like, a decade, but I went with family last year to a waterpark and was shocked I could go on slides. I had so much fun and loved it so much. Water slides have become my alternative to coasters. Sucks, but what can you do

I went to Universal and Volcano Bay for the first time earlier this month with my family. I weigh around 250 and completely enjoyed myself! There were other pooh sized people there so I didn't feel too self conscious. I have never been thin and I have been trying to lose weight my entire life. At this stage I am focusing on being healthy, exercising 5-6 days a week and being a good example for my kids. I commend you for your weight loss journey and am rooting for you!! Keep up the great work and the great videos!!

250 pounds will never be healthy (clogged arteries, heart disease, other fat-related issues). I suggest you stop eating on days you’re not working (just lounge all day) & limit to 1000 calories when you are. Obese bodies are not healthy

Appreciate you! I was at universal just before lockdown and my pride took a big hit as I tried all of the seats and couldn’t get that green light. I even had the tease of getting the green light in hagrid’s test seat, only to be turned away just before getting on ride and waiting in 90 minute queue. I’m not over 300 lbs, but still feared what would happen at volcano bay if I went there. my ticket included a day at that park, but we just went for a walk around and lunch because didn’t know how they checked weight and was too self conscious after universal experience. It’s good to understand how that works now and wish I was closer to take advantage. Hopefully soon! Thanks for the informative videos and love that you are so diligent with your mask wearing 👍

I keep being amazed at the weight limits for rides in theme parks in the US. I'm overweight but have never had that be an issue here in the Netherlands. I mean, I kind of get it for some coasters as the G-forces would be really bad for an overweight individual. But they even make rides that should be enjoyable for all so tiny that someone who is a bit overweight simply wouldn't fit. It's insane when you consider over half of the individuals in the US are overweight. That's half of your potential customers that you are turning away because you refuse to make rides that fit everyone. It was a huge shock to me when I was in Florida 3 years ago. I just bought my tickets for Universal because I'm a huge Harry Potter fan and it never occurred to me that I may not be able to ride the rides. Thankfully I was okay (borderline and uncomfortable, but I could get on), but I would have been super annoyed if I couldn't ride.

I love this video! The honesty of the video is refreshing. It just shows that theme parks need to start just not to be looking at disability but other issues that other people have when you are over weight. It’s embarrassing when for someone to try to get on a ride that a cast member say it’s ok to get on and then find that they can’t fit and be asked in front of everyone to get off. Love this💜💜💜💜

I'd be perfectly happy bobbing in the wave pool and going down the lazy rivers, but thank you for doing this research! It would have been interesting to see the ruling on the neck gater mask. Even though I totally agree that something IS better than nothing, and even though double layers of double knit lycra spandex are not the preferred material, there is probably another reason why parks don't allow these in usually. They are a risk for strangulation, even though it would have to be a REALLY freak accident to have that happen. That is why all lanyards are break away. (This from the nurse who sewed all hers together so she wouldn't lose them.) Just saying it's something to think about. Hope you guys get to enjoy the water parks together soon. It did look super fun! xoxo

You should be so proud of yourself for what you’ve achieved so far with your weight loss. It’s great to see you finally ride things at Volcano Bay. I love water parks and I remember when we booked Florida and went in 2018, we were so excited for Volcano Bay and although myself and my wife are not overly big we are technically overweight but we managed to ride everything, the only thing I was nervous of was the scale like you said and whether it would be embarrassing but it was ok, it’s kinda discreet enough not to be too bad and everyone was having to do it. Can’t wait for you both to go so you can ride the multiboat slides x

If you have a large wrist like I do, you can ask one of the attendants when you get your Tapu for a wrist strap extension that will make it more comfortable. I’m so glad you had so much fun. Congrats on how much weight you have lost. Ultimately it’s how you feel about yourself which is what everybody says. However, as being an overweight individual myself who is also on a weight-loss journey sometimes I think that’s more lip service than what we actually feel. Even though you have to be happy with your body when you see people doing things that you so desperately want to do it’s really hard to feel good about yourself. I have now lost over 70 pounds and I have 28 more pounds to go until I’m a size 10. That is my stop point. I’ve gone from a size 24 to eventually a size 10. Even though I’ve gotten down this low I now have excess skin that I’ll have to get taken care of before I ever feel comfortable enough to go to a water park. It’s amazing how being overweight can change everything about your life and even when you lose the weight sometimes you still have more things you have to do. It is like I’m losing the weight and all the weight I want to lose is almost gone but I have to figure out a way to afford plastic surgery to get all this excess skin taken off. You don’t realize what you have done to yourself sometimes until it’s too late. Now it’s never too late to lose weight and it’s never too late to get healthy. It’s just sometimes the lasting consequences from the way you were living will still be there. I have never been to a waterpark. I am 40 years old, married and a mother of two and have never been to a water park. I haven’t even gone as a child. I look back as a child and realize I actually wasn’t overweight but let’s just say my mother wasn’t the nicest of individuals when I was young. She made me feel very bad about myself so I didn’t think I was pretty enough to get into a bathing suit to go to water park, even as a child. Now I know better and I should’ve gone and enjoyed that. However, we all know what it’s like to be a kid and you are already self-conscious enough, you know. Anyway, enough of that. I just wanted you to know that I understand and have first-hand experience of what you are going through when it comes to weight loss. I wish you nothing but the best. I enjoy your channel so please keep up the good work! By the way, Happy Halloween! 🎃

first off congrads on the weight loss 🎉 second it sounds like you lost the weight too quickly and that's what is causing the excessive skin. 2-3 pounds a week is the tops you should be doing. if you try to do more than that it can cause problems like the ones you described. I'm losing weight myself and my doctor and nutritionist warned me about losing weight too quickly. Also sorry about your mom that's horrible and I hope you know you are amazing the way you are 💫

you're braver than I would've been with Pongu Racers lmfao. Knowing they have changed the weight limit so often on some of these slides for safety reasons, I wouldn't dare to go on a slide they have deemed unsafe for my weight in the past.
I've not been to a water park in years, so I was wondering if any of the commenters who suffer from chub rub have tips on preventing chub rub at water parks? I was thinking of purchasing a pair of longer swimming shorts if I ever go back to a water park.

I am a fan of the bicycle style swim shorts. Definitely help with the chub rub!

I believe the reason the weight limit was so low previously was that the "splash down" area was very short, and since they have extended it those of us with more mass have a longer distance to slow down before reaching the end.
As regards "chub rub" have you looked into scuba suits? They're great fr coverage, and also keep you a bit warmer climbing in and out of the water all day. I used to teach swimming lessons and a lot of instructors would get the style that gives knee to elbow coverage.

I wouldn’t be worried, I’m a team member there and when we change the limits we do extensive testing and changes to the ride to accommodate those changes , for example with punga we extended the runout and it’s now a body slide and no longer a Matt slide

If you were planning on adding Volcano Bay to your annual pass anyway, you should check with Guest Services to see if they can credit the price of the 1-day ticket you bought toward adding on VB to your pass. I think the add-on is $99, so not much more than the 1-day VB ticket.

Volcano Bay is the nicest waterpark you will ever experience in your life. That is why I have a three park annual power pass. Make sure to wear lots of sunscreens.

I think the punga slide video was the first video of yours I watched.
You’re a very graceful swimmer. I sink like a stone and flop around like a deflating ballon.

I'm not a fan of waterparls at all, but I absolute love Volcano Bay! Such a gorgeous park and I could spend hours just doing the fast river!

We just got home from universal a week ago and had the BEST time at volcano bay! I’m not a super adventurous water slide girl (The water coaster was amazing though!) so I think it would still be worth it for someone over 300 pounds just for the views, rivers, volcano pool, etc.

I work at a waterpark myself and the fact that masks are not “required” astounds me. Even as a worker we have to constantly remind people to put them on or you are not allowed into the park period.

At 5’9” and 280, I thought this park would be a complete waste. After seeing this video, I am feeling more confident that it wouldn’t be a waste of money and that I can actually get on some slides and enjoy the park. Once it reopens, I may be looking at adding this to my annual pass as well, for my first trip. Thanks for the honest video!
