Brennan Martinez I don't know man, both Bastion and Transistor at 10s for me. When I play and finish this i will probably give it a 10 too. So yeah IGN reviews are bad Kappa
My new favorite Supergiant game... and it's basically NBA Jam for geeks. I'm really astonished with how much effort they put into these characters and the world itself, for such a unique and likely very-niche game. I know exactly what you mean by "I won't be able to get it out of my head for a long time". Now I just hope they're willing to put it on Switch (and even mobile).
First off, Jen Zee has to be one of the best artists in the industry right now. IMO. thinking about this game makes me feel all teary. It's crazy to think that I ignored it for well over a year after it's release, and now it's my favorite Supergiant game, and really is what solidified me as a Supergiant fan.
Not quite feeling this one as much as Bastion or Transistor because I don't feel like it's an intimate experience with a character, but the polish is still there and praiseworthy.
Does anybody know how to exit the game via the menu on PS4? There is no exit to game menu or anything. Do you have do it manually and exit back to the PS4 dashboard?
For me, it deserves a solid 9.5, but that's because at least 60% of the game is basically a VN, and I really like visual novels. The art and soundtrack is where the game really shines, and the gameplay, even though it's not THAT deep, is certainly fun and engaging more often than not (specially after you get access to Pyre's version of limiters). Still, while it might not be for everyone, it's a very good looking visual novel/sport game with some neat rpg elements, and if you really like the characters (which is pretty hard to avoid), you'll probably end up playing at least 10 hours nonstop like I did.
There's something about SGGames's releases that makes it a completely different experience to watch than to play. I always saw both Transistor and Bastion gameplay way back and even when I had them at the start I still found them boring. When I really got in there though it was something else. Feel the same way about this game, but I know if I get in on my hands I know I'll love it.
Tbh I wasn't expecting much from Pyre since the slightly meh announcement but now I'm definitely going to check it out. I really hope it lives up to it high praise lavished in this review.
+Russsl Llll This year is STACKED. Easily the best since 2010/2011: Zelda BOTW, Prey, Horizon, Yakuza, Nier, Tekken, Mario Kart, Persona 5, RE7, Crash and Splatoon. Mario's not even out yet...either one.
No offense, but this review has superfluous commentary for no reason. I understand someone can get passionate about the game, but I'd prefer what's only what's necessary to be addressed.
Ergo Proxy Well just because sales aren't super high doesn't mean it's hidden. Look at NeiR:Automata. Low sales for the type and quality of the game but it gets praised endlessly and most people have heard of it.
Nintendo is too busy raking in the cash from all their Switch sales to worry about actually delivering games for people to actually play on their actual Switches. Here's Splatoon 2, see you in 4 months.
others may have forgotten, long ago wandering these lands, going about the trials, but i refused, i never forgot, i continue my journey, facing those that come to me to answer my questions my question of why didn't you booyah alpharad?
'...along side exciting real time tactical battles, is an experience on par with hearing a world class musician perform a difficult piece with equal parts talent and soul.' Jesus christ IGN could you have written anything more pretentious? You're reviewing a video game. We all love video games for being a unique medium. You don't have to try to elevate them with such flowery descriptions.
pct87 "this is one of those games I'd rather play on a handheld" you already disrespected super giant and pyre. This is worthy playing regardless of platform. You don't deserve this
a world between dr. seuss and lovecraft... oh boy.. what a weird comparison for a world thag takes inspiration from neither both judging by its written story and its visual presentation
I’ve been playing it for a while (I just got to the frozen area, can’t recall the name) and I’d say he’s over exaggerating. It’s a fun game, but not amazing or a masterpiece by any stretch of the imagination.
The Game sure has amazing graphics but... What's The deal with all those five point stars all over the place and most of the characters with big horns? Are these demos or what? Are this satanic rites or something?
Matthew Dennert PC wishes nothing. Starcraft, Eve, World of Warcraft, etc. PC AAA exclusives have longer legs and stronger communities than almost any console exclusive, and there are many decent indie games that are PC exclusive. Super Ubie Island Remix, for example. Old classics that still play great (Dangerous Dave), then there are games that are only on PlayStation and PC (this, Furi, Street Fighter V) and games that are only on Xbox and PC (most Xbox exclusives, these days), then PC games have the best mods. And this is coming from someone who doesn't game on PC. I have consoles from all of the big 3, across the last 3 generations. Doesn't mean I'm blind to what PC offers. I just can't afford a gaming rig now
as expected, every game from Supergiant are either 9/10 or 10/10.
Captain Geniuzz Is that bad?
Brennan Martinez I don't know man, both Bastion and Transistor at 10s for me. When I play and finish this i will probably give it a 10 too. So yeah IGN reviews are bad Kappa
If you think Pyre stays with you why don't you play What Remains of Edith Finch.
Neon So why are you watching this or why are you bothering to reply again?
Just bought Hades and will give Pyre a try when im tired of Hades. I rly like SuperGiant Games. :)
"the Trials" Dude... come on, they're called "the RITES"
There are Rites and there are scribe trials though
I never realised how much I need a mix of Dr Seus and H.P. Lovecraft before I heard those names in the same sentence
This game has me like a good book. Literally. There's a lot of reading.
That's a hell of A review. This is the type of review that makes you want to play a game even if you weren't interested in it before.

Glad to see this game get awesome scores! A friend of mine worked on the music!
Who? Darren Korb?
New drinking game; take a shot every time this guy drops a fancy adjective
I'd rather stay alive to play this game.
what are you talking about?i am still sober and i really wanted these shots.
I bet his 6th grade English teacher thought he was "delightful"
Pyre also has native 4k support. Can't wait to see the beautiful arts in its full glory :)
Surprised IGN didn't give Pyre a lower score since it's just an anagram for Prey.
Le Controller that's obviously what kept it from being a 10
Suprised Supergiant haven't gotten sued yet by Bethesda.
The first thing I thought when I saw this game was that this looks like a supergiant game. How identifiable there beautiful game astetic is.
I'm getting this when I get home tonight. Loved Bastion and Transistor and this looks even better.
Coming to the switch one day I hope 🤞
9.7
Too much Pyre
Not enough Review
redman777ful pretty funny and interesting!

thinking about this game makes me feel all teary. It's crazy to think that I ignored it for well over a year after it's release, and now it's my favorite Supergiant game, and really is what solidified me as a Supergiant fan.
Story's cool but it felt so repetitive going to the same areas fighting the same enemies over and over to do the same thing at the gate.
Not quite feeling this one as much as Bastion or Transistor because I don't feel like it's an intimate experience with a character, but the polish is still there and praiseworthy.
Awww the reviewer got rid of Rukey's mustache
Does anybody know how to exit the game via the menu on PS4? There is no exit to game menu or anything. Do you have do it manually and exit back to the PS4 dashboard?
There are like 80 people saying first
They're all right.

Already pre-ordered on PS4. This gonna be good, just a few hours left!
bubukill1 should have been kive a couple hours ago
I think we found indie game of the year
Cuphead, Hollow Knight, Edith Finch, Nex Machina. Supposing it is, it's no easy feat.
is cuphead even out?
@@magejag2977 Yes I'm playing it right now.
Wow this got a higher score than Horizon Zero Dawn.
what is the name of the song?? i couldn't find it anywhere

great game with numerous outcomes, even if you loose the rituals. So many differents endings and paths.
Finished bastion twice, want to start playing transistor. Now pyre is on sale for 4.99. I think it’s totally worth iT .
sadly completely forgot by everybody when it comes to game of the year awards... and sales i guess.. really sad, this is a phenomenally creative game
Tbh I wasn't expecting much from Pyre since the slightly meh announcement but now I'm definitely going to check it out. I really hope it lives up to it high praise lavished in this review.
So did it?
9.7 you are welcome boys
Sooo game of the year?
Are you going to just assume the gender of the people commenting?
Sponge Bob that genre would be sports game-rpg-oregon trail-adventure?

After hades....this looks amazing. They’re really hitting on all cylinders arnt they
What do you mean. This came way before Hades. This is Supergiants 3rd game, Hades is 4th.
@@FishoD I was saying after I played hades...and loved it this looks so different and wonderful than I expected.
@@cloverraven every supergiant games are masterpiece
....emotional fulfillment. yeah yeah, but what about the benefits of letting people go
That introduction probably sounded better written than spoken...
Wheres the review gone???..
No offense, but this review has superfluous commentary for no reason. I understand someone can get passionate about the game, but I'd prefer what's only what's necessary to be addressed.
I wanna see what Supergiant can do with a AAA budget.
Supergiant didn't again. And againm I' will buy the soundtrack, I' still listen to the Transistor soundtrack everyday.
Sergio Garcia if you have spotify and follow PlayStation music is in their archives I think
its on youtube for free, supergiant have posted it like all the other games
You can still play online with ps4. Just shareplay with who you want to play
Gonna be a hidden gem
DevilGames Nothing Supergiant Games is hidden. But I do think it will be a gem. Pre-ordered and I can play it in a few hours.
DevilGames it not "hidden" if everyone give it high review
He means in terms of sales.
a71219891 hidden or not still a gem 💎

If you only you could make some of the soul in this game and put it in this man's monotone voice
Great review T.J. :)
No online tho?
Native 4k 60fps and ps4 pro I been up all night 😩
i will never understand these types of games. i wonder if i would like it now that im older?
Did diablo music and tenacious D have a baby?
Wow I wasn't expecting a 9.7
I like how it's 1:00am and I'm still watching this anyways
Backuppycake254 Ever heard of time zones?
Xoreign in my time zone it was 1:00...happy now?
Anyone else wonder how they do such short reviews?
If this was to release on Switch I'd buy it right now. This is totally a NS game!
Greg Motshagen that would be nice yes, but let me tell you, this is worth buying no matter the system
Greg Motshagen
Being able to take it on the go would be awesome.
Greg Motshagen Eh.. PC version is far better.

septillion2501
Was that sarcasm??
I hope that they thought to include a big head mode...
why cant you play 3x3 on a 3x3 game?
It's Super Mario Strikers with a story.
I just wanted to know how the game played and if it was fun, but of course IGN needs to bamboozle me with cryptic nonsense in the first minute.
@@Meydra it plays like a cross between Banner Saga, and The Oregon Trail! Hope that helps!

How much is the game? It looks visually stunning but the gameplay and story also looks interesting 🤔
19 euros
Heh, they could've left out the Lovecraft comment if they've never even read a story! This game has nothing to the Lovecraft inspiration they claim.
20 hours?HOLY CRAP
"I'll be useful sir"
Holy crap, adblock made IGN's youtube bearable again.
Rearrange it, it becomes prey. Is this a spiritual successor to prey?
Its here?
I thought I had to wait an hour!
Reviewers get their copies early. The game releases today 9am PDT.
This is stupid, should've given it that 10/10. It's the first game that I believe deserves to be titled a *perfect game* since the witcher 3.
At launch Witcher was a buggy mess, perfect score?
once just one i'd love hear "ign gives game a...... out of 10"
I'm sure this game is amazing but I'm just not feeling the art style. It's simply not for me. Anyone else share the same sentiment?
never heard of this until now
David Wilcock is that you?
Future epic game store free game
My Career done right . 2k should learn from Super Giant
okay dude but what is the game about? You used big words and figurative language for 4 minutes straight. I still don’t know what you do in the game

GAME IF THE YEAR!!!!
Perhaps another contender for GOTY
not 10 because it's not from Nintendo
yeah
Just trow it in the bucket with all the other great ps4 console exclusives
A console exclusive... Its not coming to Xbox or switch just like Nier (which made it into pc)
This is obviously an e-sports type game meant for online multiplayer, wtf are they doing ? I swear you will see this get online multiplayer.
This is one of those games I'd rather play on a handheld. Hopefully it comes to the switch, I would but it in a second on there.

im really not feeling the gameplay and its only gonna get harder :((((
Why would anyone dress a sport party-game in so much overwrought pretentiousness and pomp? Oil and water.
Ps plus, xbox minus ✅
This reviewer is a really bad writer. This sounds like a video game review from someone in high school.
lets be honest a .7 is just salt on the wounds.
Goku Norris The 0.3 taken off was likely due to local-only multiplayer.
