Your first sentences within that review were the exact feeling I had about this game. I REALLY hope I could forget about everything I experienced in the years of Early Access and discover the amazing, now highly-polished twists once more that make this game so amazing.
The way the story is told in this game is so cryptic and eerie, it genuinely makes the game even more terrifying. Not gonna spoil anything but once you discover what's already taken place on the supposedly undiscovered planet it really freaks you out!
Been with the game since about 2015 and I’m so happy it got released. Amazing graphics. Amazing acting. Amazing mechanics. Amazing story. Runs fairly well even on my dying computer. Needless to say it’s a 10/10 here.
My sister complained about how the music doesn’t change when you encounter something hostile, or something hostile encountering you. Like, for example, in Zelda games. But I for one, really enjoyed that aspect! It kept my heart racing as I played this game deep into the night, my attention rapt as I turned up the volume in my headphones and listened for each and every bump, roar, and hiss. I really loved having to listen to my surroundings and not be able to rely too heavily on the soundtrack to figure out what was going on. It really helped me immerse myself in the game and enjoy it even more than I already do!
i have both of the games and its hard to tell which one is better, ARK is also online so you can play with your friends but subnautica is more fun to play as a singleplayer with a better story.
This is my favorite survival game ever and one of the best games i´ve ever played. In most open world games, you got a map full of markers, which show you most of the interesting places before you even got there. In subnautica, it is just a magical feeling not to know what you will encounter while you descent deeper and deeper into the void. At first when I got the sea glider, I got down to 150-200 meters, staring down, wondering what creatures are waiting there, hiding in the dark. Then I build the sea moth and was as happy as a child on christmas eve, because my inner adventurer coulnd´t wait to discover more and more of this dangerously beautiful planet

Nearly five hundred hours in this game in beta and still playing. Started a new campaign just to experience it from start to finish. Well worth every penny, every minute, every near heart attack.
I absolutely love Subnautica, it is beautiful yet terrifying, exciting but never boring. The world is very interesting and base building is very fun. Masterpiece 10/10.

been playing subnautica for a while on my pc and its such a shame that its just relatively unknown, especially on the xbox, this game and its devs deserve to do well, so original and you would never think they could pull it off underwater but they do.
Great review TJ. This game sounds amazing! Can't wait to play it. Sapiens weren't meant to dive deep into the unknown depths of the ocean, but we do it, and what unfathomable things we find.
Subnautica is near perfection in level design, base-building progression, audio engineering, story narrative and mood-inducing visuals. Just damn awesome!
I wasn't expecting this game to be this good. I just bought it and I can't stop playing it. Even though this game scares me to death, I still can't stop playing it.
You have probably heard it before, but my dude it's so much better on PC. You don't need the greatest rig to run it. P.S. They said they were in development of a PS4 version.
absolutely terrified of reapers, and I've not even seen the leviathans that come after yet. I'm worried I won't be able to finish this as it's just too intense.
To be honest there's really only one to two species you need to worry about after reapers and you won't find them till near the end. 900m / 1200m+ down. keep at it. great game
Ice Bear true, though it unlikely to run into them. I did see a baby ghost at about 150m in the northwest blood kelp zone, but was able to stay plenty South and use the gap in the rocks to raise and lower the Cyclops. As for adult they're outside the map so yeah. Not counting that :p
One of those actually swims around one of the surface biomes actually. The other is not that scary honestly once you understand its primarily territorial and doesn't see you as food.
My kid loves this game. Plays it all the time when he stays over weekends. This Sunday i had to take him to a junior course in scuba diving. Totally obsessed with ocean and the deep blue.
You nailed this one, IGN. In particular, the bit about the kind of fear this game elicits resonated strongly with me. The nod to the compelling story worthy of production in other media, as well. I'd add that the degree to which almost every craftable is functional is also really impressive. There are some decorations, but the vast majority of your crafting options improve your quality of life in some way. A bed lets you skip a night. A chair lets you read your PDA without diminishing your food nor water. A plant pot lets you plant one of those orange bulb trees (best renewable food/bio-energy resource there is) in a space-efficient way.
This game achieved something that very few games have done, evoke actual emotions in me, ranging from fear and anger to amazement and joy. My first visit to Lost River literally made me go :O Another ting I like about this game is that all the equipment and vehicles just make sense, it's all so useful. Something as simple as the battery charger, what a great little piece of equipment. Then there's the Cyclops, it made giddy as a kid when I first stepped on board, I expected to just pilot it, and that would have been fine, but it has an actual interior you can interact with.
I agree with this rating wholeheartedly, I've played this game before and I played it during beta. The game has evolved so much during the time I've been playing it. I agree on the distance statement and truly loved how you didn't spoil anything!
Last time I played was like 6 months or so ago after the 1 year patch was released. Still lost interrest after playing it for a couple of hours. Just to grindy and the inventory is annoying especially before you find any space upgrades -_-
I agree with almost everything here, LOVE this game if you like anything in the crafting/survival genre you have to own this. Unlike so many other games in this genre, not only did they actually FINISH the game but made it fun to explore. You genuinely feel like an explorer and thirst for that next, deeper biome. Only point of disagreement I have is that I did find myself wandering around without an idea of what to do. To be fair balancing a sense of discovery versus a 'go here and do this' type of questgiver progression is incredibly hard. Most of the time I was able to figure out what to do or simply stumbled across parts of the story simply because I wanted to explore everywhere. Still, there's been one or two times where it wasn't exactly clear. I would also give this a 9/10, if you like (or even tangentially like) the genre, and ESPECIALLY if you love the ocean and all the characteristics of those environments you really should get this.
The PS4 version of this can't come soon enough..we need more underwater games like Treasures of the Deep and Aquanauts Holiday. I would love to play this.
Once the next gen vr headsets come out im 100% sure im going to do another full replay of this game, hopefully by then their new dlc will be out by then as well.
I think this game is just so good because the devs cared about it so much, like a piece of art. They wanted to make something they could be truly proud of, they didn't even had to add in all that voice acting, or redo some of the animations, or hell even the filmic filters/HD updates with blurs The big problem with early access is that most people who want the game will get it before it comes out full version so your sales usually drop off after that, so it's why the Devs put in a special thanks to a bunch of big youtubers that helped spur people to buy it and keep the project going (more proof for me the devs care) All in all it's well developed game and probably one of the best scenarios of early access, lots of dedication put into making sure they took in feed back from the community and used the knowledge well Probably one of the most polished games ever, almost everything is methodically placed. Can't sing this game's praises enough, really gives me hope for the gaming industry and I really hope it spawns more groups that create some real passion project games, because those are the best gems that I remember the longest
Also if you have the "sea legs" for it the VR compatibility with this game is AMAZING. Using Oculus headset and a controller (or Keyboard + mouse) the game is stunningly beautiful in VR.
I've still yet to fully complete the game. I love it so much but it never fails. Something always happens to break the game at least halfway through and prevent me from finishing. From 5000 fish randomly spawning and breaking my fps or crashing the game, to no longer being able to access my inventory for the rest of the game. I played this since the earliest builds so I was no stranger to bugs but even the completed version with DLC is more broken than Skyrim. Subnautica is still one of my favorite games and holds a special place in my heart since I was able to watch it grow from the bottom up and be a part of it in some way. I still remember when no items even had models, they were just boxes. lol I just wish they didn't give up on the powerglide. Just finished it but I had to switch to creative to get around a bug with the spaceship so technically I still haven't beaten it legitimately. lmao

wait till you go into the void far enough
To be honest there's really only one to two species you need to worry about after reapers and you won't find them till near the end. 900m / 1200m+ down. keep at it. great game
Nessonett106 yeah no....... the ghost leviathans aren't that deep >,> trust me I've lost a sea moth.
9.1 WOO GUYS WE DID IT!!!
Bruh 2018 is going crazy in quality
DBZFighterz
MHWorld
Subnautica
Celeste
All of them 9 and above, jesus.
Naiko and so many new and awesome looking games are still coming out like gow4 and Spider-Man ps4 days gone etc
DBZ got 8.5 unfortunately....
Ashwath Gokul just a number, I haven't played it but I'm sure it's really good
Milbox R Don't get me wrong. I love DBZ. I was just stating facts.
yup Nintendo and Sony are having some major titles this year, Sea of Thieves looks really clean as well
Free on PlayStation baby🎊🎉
You nailed this one, IGN. In particular, the bit about the kind of fear this game elicits resonated strongly with me. The nod to the compelling story worthy of production in other media, as well.
I'd add that the degree to which almost every craftable is functional is also really impressive. There are some decorations, but the vast majority of your crafting options improve your quality of life in some way. A bed lets you skip a night. A chair lets you read your PDA without diminishing your food nor water. A plant pot lets you plant one of those orange bulb trees (best renewable food/bio-energy resource there is) in a space-efficient way.
Just downloaded it today. It's free now 😁🎮
gamepad support? How long is the story and can you continue playing after finishing it?
The blood kelp theme song is terrifying.
I remember when they first added the starship in the game, its so good to see a indie game that was hyped up live up to its expectations and counting,
The needs a 10 / 10 is perfect
Joseph Cook The pop in is horrible though. 9.5 maybe, but not a perfect score.
Joseph Cook
Its performance isn't perfect so 9.1 seems fair.
I love it so much I think it’s a 10
RaptorPack 06 Are there no games that you love that are a 9/10 in your eyes?
Just finished reading a few of H.P Lovecraft's books, and now I'm gonna play this
Subnautica my favorite survival game.
This game achieved something that very few games have done, evoke actual emotions in me, ranging from fear and anger to amazement and joy. My first visit to Lost River literally made me go :O
Another ting I like about this game is that all the equipment and vehicles just make sense, it's all so useful. Something as simple as the battery charger, what a great little piece of equipment. Then there's the Cyclops, it made giddy as a kid when I first stepped on board, I expected to just pilot it, and that would have been fine, but it has an actual interior you can interact with.
You should try System Shock 2, in a lot of ways, this seems like a distant descendent.
This game is the only game that made me physically sweat when going into the abyss exploring
Yeah maybe the first time, but once you've been there you know the dangers and paths. It's fine.
I agree with this rating wholeheartedly, I've played this game before and I played it during beta. The game has evolved so much during the time I've been playing it. I agree on the distance statement and truly loved how you didn't spoil anything!
Worse than Fortnite though? Rubbish!
Subnautica is better.
MrGeneralism The 2nd i still dont get how fortnite got a higher score thats the most bullshit thing ive ever seen it doesnt make any sense
Kevin Fortin 7 months later.
Fortnite is still significantly worse.
Insert angery kid raging comment here
They're both different games
3 years later (almost)
It's still the worst piece of garbage I have played, worse than fallout 76 (at launch)
I'm here because it's gonna be free on the playstation next month
@@Tunji. yo it is! thanks for reminding me
No Man's Sea
Aquatic Terraria 3D meets Alien Isolation.
Comparing Subnautica to "No Man Sky" is like comparing "Duke Nukem forever" to Halo 2
I take it you haven't played NMS recently? It's not even close to the garbage game it was at launch.
Last time I played was like 6 months or so ago after the 1 year patch was released. Still lost interrest after playing it for a couple of hours. Just to grindy and the inventory is annoying especially before you find any space upgrades -_-
That goes to sea of thieves
The best review I've seen on IGN for a very long time!
1:59 Apex predators are practically unkillable...
Jack: Hold my beer
Practically unkillable
Definitely my favorite game of all time.
I've got 2 words: *Reaper Leviathan*
I've got another 2 words: *Sea Dragon*
i've got another three words: *Adult Ghost Leviathan*
I have one...CRABSQUID
David Copplestone i have anotber CRABSNAKE
I have another one : *SPOILERS*
I have more words: Everything is scary
Actually my favorite game I have ever played
It’s free on the Epic Games launcher until the 27th
Is it worth picking up on Xbox One?
Even in the "game preview" state?
Yes.
Absolutely
Enda Gallagher yes just baught it, its a bargain for the price too.
Absolutely, but be aware that it can run slowly and can be very buggy at times.
Yes also the preview is pretty much the complete game now
The PS4 version of this can't come soon enough..we need more underwater games like Treasures of the Deep and Aquanauts Holiday. I would love to play this.
Lucky for you it came out 4th of December
Best game I ever played. Just imagine what they could do with a budget like Rockstar are ubisoft.
i got it for $5 its great and i am only a few hours in
@@rockduck2210 where did u buy it at $5?
Once the next gen vr headsets come out im 100% sure im going to do another full replay of this game, hopefully by then their new dlc will be out by then as well.
Who is here after knowing it's gonna be free on Playstation !!!!
Me!!!! Is it for both ps4 and ps5?
@@violentwolf6891 yeah
@@violentwolf6891 Yes!
I think this game is just so good because the devs cared about it so much, like a piece of art. They wanted to make something they could be truly proud of, they didn't even had to add in all that voice acting, or redo some of the animations, or hell even the filmic filters/HD updates with blurs
The big problem with early access is that most people who want the game will get it before it comes out full version so your sales usually drop off after that, so it's why the Devs put in a special thanks to a bunch of big youtubers that helped spur people to buy it and keep the project going (more proof for me the devs care)
All in all it's well developed game and probably one of the best scenarios of early access, lots of dedication put into making sure they took in feed back from the community and used the knowledge well
Probably one of the most polished games ever, almost everything is methodically placed.
Can't sing this game's praises enough, really gives me hope for the gaming industry and I really hope it spawns more groups that create some real passion project games, because those are the best gems that I remember the longest
Thanks Epic Games, very cool.
JM 14 its made by Unknown Worlds, not epic games, epic games has nothing to do with the development of this game
Lloyd kpo He was talking about how they made it free on the Epic Games Store.
I’ve been following this game since the start. I’d give it 9.5, if they could fix some of the terrain loading in some cases then it’d be a 10
This reminds me of the space exploration in Prey... meaning it gains +2 points automatically to me
Also if you have the "sea legs" for it the VR compatibility with this game is AMAZING. Using Oculus headset and a controller (or Keyboard + mouse) the game is stunningly beautiful in VR.
I wanted to know when is it coming to ps4
1:58
(Embarks PRAWN suit)
OhhOh OH! We shall see
My favourite survival game. Easily.
This is my favorite IGN narrator yet.
This is how to early access right. Good Job Subnautica ! :Clap :Clap
Just finished it but I had to switch to creative to get around a bug with the spaceship so technically I still haven't beaten it legitimately. lmao
i love Chunkyjamar on RUclips
I got this before any story was added, and never got into it because there wasn't much to do.
I take it I should give it another go?
Firekid091 yah mate
Definitely.
I have officially started back up, packing in about 7 hours in one day.
Why did no one tell me this was a horror game?
