  • A note for note cover of George Harrison's masterpiece off of Abbey Road (1969). John Lennon played piano on this song, so both rhythm and lead guitars were played by George
    PayPal donation link: www.paypal.com...
    He played his 1968 Rosewood Telecaster through a Leslie speaker for the rhythm part and his 1957 Lucy Les Paul into a Twin Reverb for the lead.
    Other than my guitar parts, you’ll hear the isolated vocals and drums from the album. Got these from rock band stems
    For the lead part I'm playing my Les Paul into my Fender Pro Reverb with a Strymon Deco to simulate the tape double-tracking effect heard on the record. For the rhythm I'm using my Telecaster into 2 amps so I could record the leslie pedal in stereo
    Gear Used:
    2007 Fender Vintage Hot Rod '52 Telecaster (w/CS '51 Nocaster Pickups)
    2005 Gibson Les Paul Standard (Low Wind OX4 PAF Pickups)
    1974 Fender Silverface Pro Reverb with Weber 12F150 Speakers
    Marcara Custom Built 5E5-A Tweed Pro (Weber 15" 15A150)
    Strymon Deco
    Strymon Lex
    Mic’d with a Neumann TLM-103 and an AKG 414

      Egad. I could never get the chord voicing right, never thought of capo on the 3rd fret. That’s why George was the guy who stole the whole show on Abbey Road with just 2 songs (this and Here Comes The Sun), and I’m not.

      Yeah if memory serves he originally played it in A so, likely just stuck the capo on 3rd rather than working out the guitar arrangement from scratch in C.

I see them on his Rick in the picture of the isolated track on "Something." I never saw that before. There was no internet when I first heard this song. LOL. Now I can see pictures of that bass with black strings on it and hear just the bass track. It's a 60's thump. Amazing! Is it possible George might have used the wah pedal on the rhythm guitar? I can hear it on the first beat of the C7 chord, and in other places throughout the song.

    • @sampopkin
      @sampopkin  2 года назад +2

      I think that’s the Leslie doing its thing. It sounds the most noticeable/wobbly with that C7

    • @elirosen1391
      @elirosen1391 Год назад

      @@sampopkin To me it sounds like a shift in the midrange, which usually is the product of the wah pedal. Also, do you think George or John liked to keep the bright switches up on their Twin Reverbs? It sounds like George did on songs like "Polythene Pam" and "Bathroom Window".

    • @sampopkin

      @@elirosen1391 I’ve never seen them use the bright switch, it’s kind of harsh. But I also don’t know how George got that crunch tone on SCITTBW or Polythene. Could’ve been the twins and then Martin added compression after
