The absolute whiplash I got from the explanation of "this person has a baby, this persons quit youtube" to "Louis was accused of posting North Korean propaganda"
@@carys7417 Yeah, I completely agree with that. I listened to his explanation at the time and thought it half-baked. He didn't even know why he did it.
To this day, Zoe's collabs with Tyler are some of my faves ever. I still rewatch their Disney challenge videos from time to time when I need to cheer up a little
Dan & Phil narrowly escaping association on this board on account of the fact they technically never actually vlogged anything. Also never scammed anyone.
Just a note for future versions of this format: the colors of the strings on the chart aren’t super visible on mobile, maybe a slightly thicker tape or something might be easier to see!
i still watch dnp and to me, it always felt that except for louise (and, to a certain point jim), they didnt feel comfortable with most of them. especially bc during vidcon they'll shove vlogging cameras to their faces and use the 10 seconds clip of them as a the miniature. for what they've said in the past year or so, they didn't like a lot of the 'brit crew' people, although they've never really said names
I’m loosing it at the statement “they have welcomed a kid, she has two children and writes books, she got lost in the woods of Mauritius and he got accused of being bought by the North Korean Government”
You didn’t even mention what I thought was the worst part of the 1 pound a day video, where he got a dozen donuts for free because the guy recognized him 😂
Also this was back when nobody had to label advertisements and brand deals. Can you imagine what kind of money these girls made with their monthly favorites and haul videos?! Cramming 10-15 brand mentions into a video that probably took them 2 hours to film and edit. Insane! That whole era was just one big fat unregulated cash grabbing marketing sham but I loved every second of it. And yes, I am too still wondering about little Marthamoo 😆
ugh and i probably wasn’t the only teenage girl out there who gave in and wasted money because i felt like i wasn’t cool if i didn’t buy a bunch of new lipsticks every month
I remember the SCANDAL when people didn't disclose the Oreo(?) sponsorship that was super wide spread. It's part of the reason creators started to disclose sponsors
i never thought of this but i was watching an old british vlogger talking about how ads worked back in the day and they said that you never had to be upfront about what the sponsor of the video was so you could chuck like 10 seconds at the end of the video probably twords the endscreen and boom $$$$$$
tumblr when zalfie got confirmed was insaaane also it's crazy how related they all were like you could extend the chart to include Hazel Hayes, world of the orange, Jack and Finn... they were all interconnected
the bit about coming home from school and watching hours worth of videos about one single trip but from everyone's separate pov threw me back to memories i didn't know i still had
right it kinda sucks that brand trips and etc arent that popular anymore like brand trips now are just pics iof you being there on a sponsored instagram post. because some people vlog it now like i just watched Sarai Jones go on a skincare brand trip in canada. they still happen but not as often and i feel like the content is slim picking these days and i get but damn we was living the dream of everyday uploads etc wild to see how its different now.
I agree, I think Louise is the Brit Crew member with the most integrity who never seemed to change as a person, possibly because she's a bit older than the others. I feel similarly about Joe Sugg as well, and I think he's done really well for himself
Wow Jordan. I am 8 minutes into this thing and I am ready to offer this unsolicited advice: IN EVERY VIDEO, A POINTER! You always come off well through the camera, you are always engaging, but it's like you CAME ALIVE in this video. And I think it's the pointer, or something to do with your hands. Incredible! You sound INCREDIBLY confident (and you are always so well researched and know what you're talking about). I think you found your secret sauce.
I agree, the she really let the power of the pointer loose on the world and I’m here for it. It’s giving me next generation professor vibes. Like she’d definitely be teaching history of meme culture down the line. Loving it, the accent really ties it all together for me. Love it!
I think its also because she's standing and just able to be a lot more dynamic since she has so many visual exhibits. Love it, girl missed her calling as a RUclips professor
i honestly don’t get why they don’t just say… like is what happened to her really so awful that they can’t share it? surely she just got given up or something
@@sillygoosegoose Indeed. But wow, giving up a dog just because you shared it with your ex husband/wife... yikes, sounds almost like giving up your kids for adoption after getting a divorce
Sorry that couldn’t be me, like an animal is separate from a person even if we adopted them together. Like I just don’t get it unless they always used the dog as an excuse to spend time together or whatever. Like I can’t imagine attaching a separate entity as an extension of my romantic relationship.
the way this THREW me back to being 14 and obsessed with zoella lmao. i also think the slightly smaller "brit crew" of jack howard, tim h, hannah witton, dodie, tomska, daniel j layton etc also deserve a video ngl EDIT 14/1: this video led to me rewatching tomskas entire year of vlogs and holy crap i missed out so many people! bertie gilbert, sammie paul, the fratocrats, emma blackery, charlieissocoollike, jack and finn, dan and phil, hazel hayes, dean dobbs, melanie murphy, bethan leadley god I'm just gonna end up making my own video at this point
I remember going crazy yes lmao but also a bit “damage happy” as we say in my language. It means happy for someone else’s misfortune basically, so I was like “well now neither of us have long, beautiful hair!” #teenagebrain
takes me back to my cousin making every single britsquad member in the sims 4 and creating an alternate universe where they lived with the vampire diaries and pretty little liars characters. oh 2014, you will be missed
What a throwback 💀 loved the vid but one thing that feels important to remember is that they were all contracted to the same talent agency, Gleam, so I think you have to look back realise how much more calculated the entire thing was. Looking back without the teenage naivety they were really more like colleagues, intentionally working together to enhance their agency's network by cross posting and rewarding investment in their combined stories and dramas ...
Tbh I dk if I personally agree even by 2015 joe was getting more views then Zoe and became the biggest one at gleam cos even tho she was getting the subscribers she wasn’t getting the views like Joe was.
I'd say zoe started it and then it was her and joe carrying. I still remember when joe just started and his name was thatcherjoe and he had a video showing how he thatched roofs!
I will admit right here that these people taught me English, watching their vlogs every single day after school taught me more than English in my Dutch highschool
You forgot to mention the downfall of Zoe and Louise friendship after the Hello World mess. I had stopped watching their videos at that point, but I remember being shocked by the news that they were no longer friends and that it seemed like the breaking point was Zoe being mean to a very pregnant Louise in the middle of Hello World
Wait whaaaaat I completely missed this I definitely need to find more info on that.. cause last I seen they were like nah we're not fighting we just live far apart and we're busy but now that I think about it they never mention eachother everrrr
@@Loriani93 yeah, I remember the "we're still friends, just live far apart" but even then, it was pretty obvious they were not on talking terms anymore
That's really interesting because I remember seeing it was because Zoe was having a panic attack backstage and Louise told her to 'get over it' But I honestly don't think we'll ever really know why they're not super close anymore. Sometimes people just grow a part
Same, I am Italian and I don't remember at all how I got into these youtubers but I think it had to do with me watching 1D youtube videos and maybe the algorythm suggested someone from the bit crew
It’s so weird to think that almost all the really big RUclipsrs in c.2013 - 2015 have now just faded away. It genuinely doesn’t feel that long ago they were massive. Christ how time flies.
11:00 speaking of parasocial relationships, I remember spamming Louise's twitter in 2011 to ask her to collab with Dan (spamming in the sense of copy/pasting the same tweet over and over again with x1, x2, x3 after each one). She replied and I literally took a screenshot of the tweet, printed it in A4 and framed the screenshot for my bedside table 💀💀💀
not related to youtube, but I'd write the most basic comments under sum 41 band members posts on Instagram so the guys would like my comment. then I saved all the posts that had my comment liked by the band member SO I COULD REVISIT THE POST (my comment with the s a c r a m e n t a l like to be more specific) LATER WHICH I TOTALLY DID😭😭 oh my god why was I such a stupid child
a former big british youtuber getting accused of posting propaganda for north korea wasn't on my bingo card. but it makes sense that one of the brit crew guys is into crypto
It sounds juicer than it actually was. It's north korean vlogs, his channel is about travelling so he just went there on a tourist visa and showed some rare footage of the country. Go look it up, it was fascinating at the time.
Louise is the only one I support nowadays. She is the only Brit Crew member who matured with their audience and remained real and grounded. Not to mention she's bloody hilarious. There's so much wit in this woman. True, I watch her videos only occasionally (I'm not really in her target demographic), but she will always have a special place in my heart.
yes!! love Louise and i sometimes dip into her videos and then immediately feel old as her kids get older! i feel like she was always the most down to earth of the crew in this video and she seems like such a genuine (and really funny) person. I think also this came with being a little older than the rest of them (i think) she had more life experience and was just a little more mature. she felt like a comforting aunt :)
Zoe and Alfie Sims vlogs FED me back in the day in their old apartment omg... and Joe is possibly still one of the only internet personalities of his vlogging type I genuinely loved and still quite like.
omgggggg i did NOT expect to have such a good time watching this!!!!! lol i hate it but the nostalgia i have for that like "early social media, tumblr-esque, one direction" period of my life is insane. loved this! you had me invested and giggling for half an hour wow. ily girl
my note on the goldfish scandal is that when you kill an animal to eat, there are standards for how humanely they were killed to minimise how much suffering they went through before they died, whereas he just had a live fish slowly die in his stomach acid for clout
@@Sabrina-sc1db those methods are disgusting, and I don’t know how they get around animal cruelty laws. Is it that animals from the sea don’t matter as much??
@@AmyAberrant Animal cruelty laws don’t protect animals that are food generally. Look up any of the documentaries about how live stock is killed. It’s not humane and it’s not pretty. They live absolutely miserable lives until they die, and many of them are tortured until they succumb. Watch any documentary about farm animals and you can see that.
hearing such a prominent part of my teenage years be neatly explained in a 30 minute youtube video is such a surreal experience, the whole brit crew era was wild. amazing video thank you
@@kidheg7717 Alex Day has been dragged through the mud enough. So he cheated on his girlfriend a few times? There was no need for the community to act like he r* someone and ruin his life.
i think another reason why we as an audience "grew out" of watching their content was also because they had grown up as well... i remember i started watching them doing friend trips and going to eachothers houses and filming silly challenges and then one day zoe and alfie were looking for a new house cause they were practically married and moving in together... i still enjoyed the new lifestyle they were growing into, but as you said, it was not that relatable anymore, and not just because they were getting rich but also cause as a 13 year old girl, it was too ~grownup~ for me... it felt like i watched the whole arc coming to a clean end, like a slice of life tv show or something and the characters finally reached their "happily ever after"
it's wild to me that JacksGap (and Finn) are barely ever mentioned anymore but they were/are my absolute favorites!! even if they weren't reallyyy a part of the Brit Crew, they were definitely among the most popular British youtubers at the time. their growth and shift of focus towards the climate crisis and other important issues has been amazing to follow, too. Earthrise deserves more attention!
I’m so glad Louise is getting the love she deserves in this video! I think her content has grown with her and her audience so well and she is definitely the best RUclipsr of the bunch now.
I agree. I wasn’t really a fan of the others but I loved Louise. And even though her content isn’t for me as an adult, I still appreciate how true to herself she has stayed throughout the years.
I went to Vidcon 2013 and let me tell you, the Brit crew RAN that event. I think it was the first year where fan mobs really became an issue and I think it was because of them
Louise has a special place in my mind and heart along with the video with Dan about their Awkward Fancy Meal, and also the Jaackmate "Review" of the Zoella's Callendar pure gold on the internet. Any time I want a good laugh, I watch any of those videos.
Jordan is an absolute GEM! I don't even know who any of these people are (I'm from the states) but Jordan's energy and voice are so wonderful I get excited to watch her talk about anything 💕
pfff this comment is hilarious to me bc I’m from the states but I know a lot of people in their 20s who were fans of these youtubers in 2013! They were literally all over no matter where you were from
FleurDeForce was also a part of the original Brit crew but left very early on. She used to collab with Louise, Zoe, Tanya and Jim quite regularly but then seemed to have left the group around 2014 maybe? Anyway she made the right decision and is thriving now 😂 I also never understood Oli White and really disliked Alfie, but was a huge Zoe and Louise stan back then lmao
i was looking for someone to mention her! she was even in this video for a second, i definitely remember her hanging around with these guys. for me it was the other way around, i only followed fleur so my only touch with the brit crew was through her. it always seemed like she was more mature and had different goals, so it's no surprise she drifted from them. i'm glad she's still doing well
i think my biggest issue with louis and the goldfish thing is just the fact that it was still alive… im not sure how long it would have survived, but that’s the part that seems kinda fucked up to me,, plus it’s gross, but that was like, the whole point right? i never really got that kind of content
yeah, also there's a massive difference between eating to survive and putting something that's alive through that kind of pain just for a few views from some 10-year-olds. I absolutely hate people who make that kind of content and I hate when ppl excuse it with the 'u eat cows all the time' thing or whatever, like I don't eat any kind of animal anyway so am I allowed to complain again? lol, but I just wish we could move past harming animals for absolutely no reason while calling it 'entertainment.' it's the same with bear grylls and kinda even I'm a celebrity gmooh, I wouldn't be surprised if their main demographic is made up by future (or current) serial killers
I'm an American, and I remember the Brit Crew very well. This video took me BACK to my college years of watching RUclips and brought back so many memories. Thank you for this British History lesson.
everyone talks about the main brit crew but does anyone remember the secondary british crew that was like dodie clarke, hannah witton, hazel hayes, jack howard, lucy moon, evan edinger, leena norms, savannah brown etc.? the group was less defined there were more people that flowed in and out of it but they all collabed and they felt a little less 'family friendly' than the main brit crew. I think they sort of went all separate ways? they felt a little more relatable because a lot of them were uni students and talking about life in your early 20s like dating/parties/drinking/studying/working and mostly they didn't get too rich off yt because they were less famous. when I was in my teens (and already feeling too old for the og british crew) I was more interested in their lives as it seemed like a glimpse into future early 20s life. still not a very diverse group though
Funny how they may be considered a secondary crew, yet they had much more longevity than the main one. I still enjoy occasionally watching Hazel, Hannah (yay for the baby!), Jack, PJ or Tom. Sammy's board game collabs are legendary and dodie is pretty much my favourite full-fledged musician (in her case being a youtuber isn't even the reason - she's just that good of a lyricist)
i think a lot of them are still friends. hazel and jack still post together (and i think they're back together after being broken up for a while??) and they still seem close with dodie bertie daniel j the truman twins pj etc. i know savannah brown and bertie gilbert are broken up now though. the chokehold these relationships had on me as a teen is insane
The way we all watched the same vlogs from different points of view after school is crazy. Vlogmas will always be a comfort to me. Also anyone else watch JacksGap? Jack and Finn are right up there with Louise for me (unproblematic). I feel like they could have been included the way you had Sam and Nic.
Actually no. Jacksgap are pretty problematic. Their disregard and irresponsible behaviour during covid, being friends with questionable ppl and their white saviour attitude. They are not well liked or respected within the climate community
This was a whole era, wow. Early 2010’s-tumblr-vibes. Still can’t believe Zalfie are the only couple that survived the brit-crew exodus. And their kid is super cute! I think the only one I still regularly follow is Joe, but even then not really. Outside of Dan, Phil, Carrie, and Dodie, there weren’t many YT Brits I was following, I wasn’t super into “vlogger” content and that felt like all they really did.
Not me knowing the entire plot of this 💀 The only thing that I didn't know was that pixiewoo were related to Jim. And ofcourse you forgot the most mysterious and heartbreaking breakup: Zoe and Louise's friendship. 😭❤️
so glad someone else remembers this era of yt where british yts basically exploded in popularity and dominated the yt algorithm. edit: their vidcon vlogs,,, i would watch them religiously
You deserve a medal for slogging through this absolute minefield. This video hit me like a brick, I’m so mad to remember all of this. Also all of their careers in the “where are they now” section feel like satire.
@@genericname8727 yay congrats! Yeah hopefully Dan just gets to thrive now after all the BS he's been through. And I enjoy that Phil continues to do pretty much the same silly videos he used to.
@@georgecooper9766 yeah, I’m always confident watching Phil will put me in a good mood too. I watch so many different creators, but Phil’s probably the only one guaranteed to leave me smiling. Phil’s doing another “viewers pick my outfits” but for Dan, which I know will just be a fun time. And Louise is apparently collabing with Dan for his next video, which has me waiting eagerly knowing how great their old collabs were. I miss when RUclipsrs collabed more in person tbh. I hope it becomes more common again.
FunForLouis developed an incredible cinematic style with his travel vlogs. His editing skills are amazing and on another level from the rest of the Brit crew. His Rickshaw run vlog series he made in India with jacks gap and other influencers is what made me a loyal watcher. Now he’s married with a baby on the way🥺
Yeah this video only highlighted the bad parts. I think he's completely changed from 10 years ago. He's all about travelling, conservation, human and animal rights these days.
this is the era in which i got really into youtube but i ended up in the jacksgap and dan and phil corners of youtube and never really got into the brit crew proper. super weird to be reminded of it all. you did a great job summing everything up!
the british invasion of youtube in the 2010s was so widespread. i remember being obsessed with dan & phil, emma blackery, kickthepj, charlieissocoollike, jack and fin, and that whole friend group
Aw man this was such a throwback! I used to watch most of these RUclipsrs and lived for their collabs. It's so weird to think about how popular they were - Alfie and Zoe had wax figures in Madame Tussauds, like wtf! This is the video I didn't know I needed🥹
I have never followed Brit Crew , but many of my friends did ,while they were learning English. The effortless and easy content was perfect for people who are still in process of learning the language, and maybe that was also one of the reasons they were very popular with foreigners. Your video was so entertaining I almost felt like I knew all those people
I'm literally 21 now but still most Christmases I'll tune into zoe's christmassy vlogs or rewatch that vlogmas where they all went to Dubai its ingrained in my memory
Totally agree, Louise has always kept the same energy! I'm no longer her target audience but I'm still subscribed to her bc she's always stayed true to herself and its nice to check in with her once in a while :)
I had a really complicated relationship with the brit crew growing up. I grew up poor and in quite an abusive situation so seeing these rich people just get richer was kind of annoying to me. When they would complain about the stress of vlogging it irritated me so much because like, no one is making you do it, you're filming daily because it makes you hundreds of thousands of pounds. They were just so privileged and not self aware it drove me mad. At the same time, I couldn't get enough. Watching their hauls and the overconsumerism was almost cathartic for me as a kid who could never buy anything. Their life was so crazy it was hard to believe they lived in the same country. When the scandals started I stopped watching them and started watching commentary and it just made me really bitter about how they were always making this shit to make money when they already had enough. I remember this one specific video where Marcus butler and I think alfie deyes were talking about would Marcus quit RUclips if he had the money and they said oh if you had a million pounds and Marcus said that wasnt enough to live on... it blew my mind. My parents earn about 16k a year now, my dad works 10 hours 6 days a week in a bed making factory and my mam goes 5 days in the sewing room. They would never have that much money and yet he said it wasnt enough? Blew my mind
i think that must have been a really complicated concept to wrap your head around as a kid the stark difference between people’s financial situations hope you’re doing better now!
This is so relatable; I had the same experience! As i grew up and realised that their content made me feel worse about my situation and no longer provided any escapism - I just couldn't watch anymore!
I'm sorry, but the highs and lows of that last bit, I'm cackling. "they had a baby, these two had to be rescued by special forces after being lost in the jungle, she's acting, and he allegedly made propaganda for the north korean government. also one of them is doing crypto"
Reliving my childhood through this video and i LOVE IT. Can't believe 7-11 year old me owned every one of these books and all the makeup and beauty products. This era of RUclips is seriously such a time capsule for me and so many other people and I'm obsessed with the way you showed it all. Also for the record, Louise outdid everyone with her book and channel nobody could do it like her amen
love this. its so funny to have an entire youtube generation that just gets this lmao. i was a dnp stan who watched all this from the sidelines but i remember ALL this drama when it was breaking news
22:10 I also feel like one of the phenomena happening in the 2017 british vlog sphere was that the dodie-hazel hayes-jack howard-bertie-savannah crew were getting more popular bc they were now the ones who were relatable and more earnest* in their vlogs. At least that's what I personally gravitated towards at the time 😊
I haven’t watched yet but my fave little ad thing they did under the radar was all the Brit crew girls doing makeup tutorials used real techniques brushes and sponges, which is owned by Jim chapmans sisters 🤣
They weren't actually the owners but it was a collaboration with a company called Paris Presents. They parted ways now. I thought back then that they owned RT too
I liked more of the side-characters that were as popular but not necessarily part of the group, like Dan & Phil, KickthePJ, Hazel Hayes, Carrie Hope Fletcher etc
Finally someone started talking about the Brit crew!!! This was such an iconic time, and no one ever talks about it and how great thus was to experience on RUclips. (I’m American) I miss those days so much man… everyone grew up
bro I don’t care Zoe will always have a special place in my heart. she had my 11 year old self in a chokehold, I had her beauty products and I still own like three of her books 🤡
I think it’s something about her like she’s so radiantly positive and 2014 fairy lights bright, like it should feel super fake and disingenuous but with her idk I think she’s really like that like it seems like she’s always happy and even at a young age I knew she would live a happier and more fulfilling life than I ever could 😅 and as depressed and self deprecating as that sounds I think it’s like the christian girl autumn effect where everyone Stan’s that girl cuz she is just completely live laugh loving her way thru life and we (all the people who stan her) wish we could have even half that level of personal happiness. i think it’s mostly just me over analyzing it though 😅😂
my jaw has dropped. i have WAITED for someone to make a video about this crew bc i feel like no one actually understands the TRUE lore of 2012 brit youtube
i love this lollll, could you make one including troye and tyler and dan and phil , that'd slay. the way i was eating up british content in every shape and form in 2013 is insane
I am so here for all the history of RUclips content. It's so interesting to look back at things that like I lived through with a more analytical lens. I'd love to see some content on like the clickbait/storytime era (maybe you've already done that idk)
Right the archeology of the internet. It’s really important to make this kind of detailed summary of events and situations because stuff online gets lost over time and it’s going to be harder and harder to track down the original posts and videos in 20, 40, 100 years. Shits important, gotta know what’s happened to better see what’s coming and not repeat as many mistakes.
this is literally my entire childhood in one video. the joe vs caspar prank videos and tje vlogmas had me HOOKED and then they collaborated with the american crew (tyler oakley, joey graceffa, troye sivan) ?? i never realised how planned out their ‘friendships’ were but i honestly lived for it
Love the nostalgia! Need a second version with the London friend group with dodie, evan edinger, bertie gilbert, sammy paul, savanah brown, etc. They are a big reason why I moved to the UK
Lol I also moved to UK for a bit. And Now I'm wondering if it's all those years watching Brit Crew and DnP content that subconsciously influenced me. 🙀
I have to say, I really want to make a huge Mindmap of current uk content creator friend groups and that in relation to like who lives in London vs who lives in Brighton etc
these british youtubers really ruled the world for a hot minute. i remember being so obsessed with them as a pre-teen. that damn girl online book was everywhere.
I remember Tanya and Jim actually started as part of a group with fleur de force, ingrid and her bf at the time, and joey graceffa. They slowly shifted to the Brit Crew people and there was supposedly drama about tanya not doing fleur’s makeup at her wedding and then fleur making a comment about Tanya’s dress being tacky looool
I absolutely loved this video, you did amazing! I'd like to reiterate what other people are saying, I would love to see a video about the "smaller" Brit Crew with Dodie, Luke Cutforth, Emma Blackery, Veeoneeye, Evan Edinger, etc etc cause there is a lot of things that happened within that space as well!!
yes omg the scandals that the smaller brit crew had were unhinged,,, veeoneeye turned out to be a predator and the whole #savemarinajoyce thing was INSANE lol
i was over on the nerdy side of brit youtubers, but i was impressed to see i'd already heard abt most of the scandals. truly shambolic. loved the video!

I would argue the worst part of that video was the fact that he bought a BEARD COMB despite only having a little bit of stubble

And yes, I am too still wondering about little Marthamoo 😆
omgg I never even thought about that 😭😭
ugh and i probably wasn’t the only teenage girl out there who gave in and wasted money because i felt like i wasn’t cool if i didn’t buy a bunch of new lipsticks every month
Where’s the hound
JACK AND FINN GOD WHAT A THROWBACK. Also I think Tyler Oakley was an honorary member for how often they collabed when they visited
yeah i immediately thought of jack and finn when i saw the board
Really need the honourable mention of Jack and Finn.
jack and finn !!! yes all of this. tumblr was where the brit crew connectivity thrived
How was Hazel intertwined?
the bit about coming home from school and watching hours worth of videos about one single trip but from everyone's separate pov threw me back to memories i didn't know i still had
right it kinda sucks that brand trips and etc arent that popular anymore like brand trips now are just pics iof you being there on a sponsored instagram post. because some people vlog it now like i just watched Sarai Jones go on a skincare brand trip in canada. they still happen but not as often and i feel like the content is slim picking these days and i get but damn we was living the dream of everyday uploads etc wild to see how its different now.
I agree, I think Louise is the Brit Crew member with the most integrity who never seemed to change as a person, possibly because she's a bit older than the others. I feel similarly about Joe Sugg as well, and I think he's done really well for himself
100% agree, louise and joe always seemed like they were the most down to earth of the group and i'm so glad to see them doing well nowadays

I think you found your secret sauce.
yeaaaahh!!! i totally agree, i love her other videos but i LOVE LOVE this video, it's so natural for her and easy to follow for me, wow!
100% Agree.
I agree, the she really let the power of the pointer loose on the world and I’m here for it. It’s giving me next generation professor vibes. Like she’d definitely be teaching history of meme culture down the line. Loving it, the accent really ties it all together for me. Love it!
Agree. Loved her previous videos but she’s on fire in this one!
I think its also because she's standing and just able to be a lot more dynamic since she has so many visual exhibits. Love it, girl missed her calling as a RUclips professor
JackMaate's video about Zoe's calendar lives in my head rent-free. Not to mention the shock of finding out that Jim and Tanya are divorcing.
omg same 😭 and im not even british 💀
The Martha mystery is one that still crosses my mind at least a couple of times a year
i honestly don’t get why they don’t just say… like is what happened to her really so awful that they can’t share it? surely she just got given up or something
@@sillygoosegoose Indeed. But wow, giving up a dog just because you shared it with your ex husband/wife... yikes, sounds almost like giving up your kids for adoption after getting a divorce
Apparently there was an update somewhere by, I think, one of Jim's sisters that she's been rehomed. Can't remember where I heard that though
@@Gr95dc Sorry but i laughed hard

Why were they so shady about Martha??? The fact that people had to start commenting "where's the hound?!" Is killing me 😭😂
the way this THREW me back to being 14 and obsessed with zoella lmao. i also think the slightly smaller "brit crew" of jack howard, tim h, hannah witton, dodie, tomska, daniel j layton etc also deserve a video ngl
EDIT 14/1: this video led to me rewatching tomskas entire year of vlogs and holy crap i missed out so many people! bertie gilbert, sammie paul, the fratocrats, emma blackery, charlieissocoollike, jack and finn, dan and phil, hazel hayes, dean dobbs, melanie murphy, bethan leadley god I'm just gonna end up making my own video at this point
It’s kind of funny how Louise was a part of that crew too lol

The superior crew :P
Throw nerdcubed in there as well please (maybe caddicarus too).
daniel j layton's baking videos hold so so much comfort for me oh my god
Does anyone remember when Zoe first cut her iconic ombré hair for the first time and everyone was going crazy about it lol
I remember going crazy yes lmao but also a bit “damage happy” as we say in my language. It means happy for someone else’s misfortune basically, so I was like “well now neither of us have long, beautiful hair!” #teenagebrain

Omg that is hilarious Britsquad, TVD and PLL sums up my interests in 2014 at age 13 😂😂
I had no idea they had talent contracts! Wow that’s crazy and absolutely makes a ton of sense. Omg.
This! I'm surprised this wasn't mentioned
Very good point! I remember the Gleam Christmas party would always appear in their content.
What.
Yes but Gleam came along after/during the peak of their success and slowly built up. It was just another byproduct of their natural RUclips success
As someone who didn’t watch these lot but all their friends did, thank you for clearing up years of confusion for me in 31 minutes.

I swear I only learned english so I could watch their and Tyler Oakley videos
Omg same, I would have to watch these videos like 2 or 3 times to understand them well enough 😂
Same😂
Omg sameee, I sucked at HS English but somehow was able to watch their videos with no problem?? lol
Same for me haha
You forgot to mention the downfall of Zoe and Louise friendship after the Hello World mess. I had stopped watching their videos at that point, but I remember being shocked by the news that they were no longer friends and that it seemed like the breaking point was Zoe being mean to a very pregnant Louise in the middle of Hello World
Okay I was wondering what happened between them!
I need a video on this cos their friendship just ended and nobody knew why!
Sometimes people just grow a part
honestly i think one direction had a big impact on why american girls started watching the brit crew too but i can't really explain it

True, I watch her videos only occasionally (I'm not really in her target demographic), but she will always have a special place in my heart.
yes!! love Louise and i sometimes dip into her videos and then immediately feel old as her kids get older! i feel like she was always the most down to earth of the crew in this video and she seems like such a genuine (and really funny) person. my note on the goldfish scandal is that when you kill an animal to eat, there are standards for how humanely they were killed to minimise how much suffering they went through before they died, whereas he just had a live fish slowly die in his stomach acid for clout
Lobsters are boiled alive

@@Sabrina-sc1db those methods are disgusting, and I don’t know how they get around animal cruelty laws. Is it that animals from the sea don’t matter as much??
Strong recommend you watch a film called Earthlings or Dominion if you believe animals are being killed at all humanely. ☹️
@@AmyAberrant Animal cruelty laws don’t protect animals that are food generally. Look up any of the documentaries about how live stock is killed. It’s not humane and it’s not pretty. i think another reason why we as an audience "grew out" of watching their content was also because they had grown up as well... i remember i started watching them doing friend trips and going to eachothers houses and filming silly challenges and then one day zoe and alfie were looking for a new house cause they were practically married and moving in together... i still enjoyed the new lifestyle they were growing into, but as you said, it was not that relatable anymore, and not just because they were getting rich but also cause as a 13 year old girl, it was too ~grownup~ for me... it felt like i watched the whole arc coming to a clean end, like a slice of life tv show or something and the characters finally reached their "happily ever after"
Every time I see a background like that I know the video is gonna be GOOD
it's wild to me that JacksGap (and Finn) are barely ever mentioned anymore but they were/are my absolute favorites!! even if they weren't reallyyy a part of the Brit Crew, they were definitely among the most popular British youtubers at the time. their growth and shift of focus towards the climate crisis and other important issues has been amazing to follow, too. I agree. I wasn’t really a fan of the others but I loved Louise. And even though her content isn’t for me as an adult, I still appreciate how true to herself she has stayed throughout the years.
She only posts content to advertise things these days.
Dan & Phil we’re not part of the brit crew but their and Louise’s friendship is my favourite

i think my biggest issue with louis and the goldfish thing is just the fact that it was still alive… im not sure how long it would have survived, but that’s the part that seems kinda fucked up to me,,
plus it’s gross, but that was like, the whole point right? i never really got that kind of content
I learned today that Louis did that kind of content. I had no idea, I had only seen a few videos of his and thought he only did travel vlogs.
yeah, also there's a massive difference between eating to survive and putting something that's alive through that kind of pain just for a few views from some 10-year-olds.
I absolutely hate people who make that kind of content and I hate when ppl excuse it with the 'u eat cows all the time' thing or whatever, like I don't eat any kind of animal anyway so am I allowed to complain again? lol, but I just wish we could move past harming animals for absolutely no reason while calling it 'entertainment.' it's the same with bear grylls and kinda even I'm a celebrity gmooh, I wouldn't be surprised if their main demographic is made up by future (or current) serial killers
yeah, the part I find truly concerning and disturbing is that the poor thing was alive when he ate it. Just, why?
Same he could just kill it quickly and it would be fine
I agree 100%. If you are going to eat an animal, let it die peacefully and painlessly. Can't imagine how it would feel like to be eaten alive :(
I'm an American, and I remember the Brit Crew very well.
Evan and Dodie are still friends! Evan's content is still great, it's really grown up with him
The chokeholds this group and the Emma Blackery-Luke Cutforth-Evan Edinger-Patty Walters-Dottie-Bry O’Reilly crew had on me.
Also "Noodlerella" aka Connie!!
I found jacksgap first back in the day randomly and then eventually it led me to the Brit crew!
The only ones I follow is Zoe and Joe
Not me knowing the entire plot of this 💀 The only thing that I didn't know was that pixiewoo were related to Jim. And ofcourse you forgot the most mysterious and heartbreaking breakup: Zoe and Louise's friendship. 😭❤️
so glad someone else remembers this era of yt where british yts basically exploded in popularity and dominated the yt algorithm.

I have never followed Brit Crew , but many of my friends did ,while they were learning English. The effortless and easy content was perfect for people who are still in process of learning the language, and maybe that was also one of the reasons they were very popular with foreigners.

Thank you
i think that must have been a really complicated concept to wrap your head around as a kid

They weren't actually the owners but it was a collaboration with a company called Paris Presents. They parted ways now. I thought back then that they owned RT too
I liked more of the side-characters that were as popular but not necessarily part of the group, like Dan & Phil, KickthePJ, Hazel Hayes, Carrie Hope Fletcher etc
i mean the whole dodie clark crew has my entire heart
Finally someone started talking about the Brit crew!!! This was such an iconic time, and no one ever talks about it and how great thus was to experience on RUclips. (I’m American) I miss those days so much man… everyone grew up
bro I don’t care Zoe will always have a special place in my heart. she had my 11 year old self in a chokehold, I had her beauty products and I still own like three of her books 🤡
i still watch her old videos as comfort content tbh
@@louiskingsta6142 same I was insecure and hated how pretty and small she was
Didn’t know Casper Lee fell into this group lol! Lots of us South Africans we’re just stoked to have him on the map
my jaw has dropped. i have WAITED for someone to make a video about this crew bc i feel like no one actually understands the TRUE lore of 2012 brit youtube
Ma'am your energy and excitement everytime you say, "you had to be there" is UNMATCHED 😂😂
I only ever watched Louise. She always seemed very authentic and I love that she is happy and has her beautiful family
i love this lollll, could you make one including troye and tyler and dan and phil , that'd slay. the way i was eating up british content in every shape and form in 2013 is insane
Shits important, gotta know what’s happened to better see what’s coming and not repeat as many mistakes.
this is literally my entire childhood in one video. the joe vs caspar prank videos and tje vlogmas had me HOOKED and then they collaborated with the american crew (tyler oakley, joey graceffa, troye sivan) ?? i never realised how planned out their ‘friendships’ were but i honestly lived for it
i feel like i'll never get tired of these nostalgic looking-back-at-the-youtube-golden-era videos
Love the nostalgia! Need a second version with the London friend group with dodie, evan edinger, bertie gilbert, sammy paul, savanah brown, etc. They are a big reason why I moved to the UK
Same here!!!
@@nikfiendluvr666 IT WAS it was so wild!!
omg yes i'd love to see that!
@@marissavillalobos was nerdcubed involved with it, or was it just me.
Also noodlerella
i was over on the nerdy side of brit youtubers, but i was impressed to see i'd already heard abt most of the scandals. truly shambolic. loved the video!
The outro is perfection.. The kitten, the squeak, the reaction face. Perfection.
I SCREAMED about what you said at 9:50 about watching 4 hours of the same footage from different perspectives, that unlocked a memory for me that I deeply suppressed
