Just to throw in my own little word about the Snow White debacle, one issue with basically removing the seven 'dwarfs' is that they are not supposed to be humans with dwarfism, they are literally meant to be magical dwarfs from folklore and fairytales in northern Europe. Creatures of magic who mine for gems and precious metals. Plus seriously, don't take the jobs away from dwarf actors. Some of them have literally made long lasting careers from wearing makeup and costumes in hundreds of films and tv shows.

One of my favorite Peter Dinklage roles was Robin Williams's brother in The Angriest Man in Brooklyn because it had nothing to do with his size. I don't even think it was mentioned. Everything else I've seen him in relied on his dwarfism. Although I think Cyrano was brilliant. They just changed Cyrano's affliction from having a big nose to being diminutive in stature. It's very hard for dwarves and midgets to get parts in movies. Let's not take away the roles that are tailor made for them under the guise of being PC.

Also the original story wasn’t even about that. The dwarves were like fantasy dwarves not just straight up people with dwarfism. @@empdisaster10 Yeah, they weren’t humans with dwarfism. I think everyone knows that. They whole movie is filled with magical creatures, and a princess that can talk to animals. 😆 I just meant that they missed an opportunity to employ actors with dwarfism. The original story, before she even made her comments, included that Disney was leaving them out. When Disney announced the live action version they mentioned it. There are other live action media (movie, tv) of fairy tales where they take a magical creature and bring human actors to play them instead of leaving them out. For instance, Once Upon a Time, still had the 7 dwarves. They weren’t people with dwarfism, but creatures that hatched out of eggs, and mined jewels to make into fairy dust. A different story, but they left them in as the 7 dwarves saved Snow, and became devoted friends to her. Which they felt was important to the story line. I just feel like Disney could have actually made the dwarves, humans with dwarfism, and employed some talented actors to play them. They had an opportunity to write something positive.

I can't be the only one who remembers these 2 movies: Snow White and the Huntsman, and Mirror Mirror. Both movies used the core elements of Snow White but created some new twists in both. Both cast actresses in the lead roles that resembled the original Disney design, incorporated dwarves, had a prince figure, evil queen, etc. However, in both movies, Snow White didn't rely on true love (though love did factor into the story), was also a fighter, goes into battle, and is a strong woman. And, don't forget the show Once Upon a Time that was on ABC (which I believe was owned by Disney at the time) for several seasons. They cast someone in the role who fit the overall original character design, gave her storyline a love element, but also made her a strong, confident, woman who fought in battle.

The fact that everyone thinks that all Snow White did was sit around and wish for her prince to come shows that they didn’t understand her character at all. First off, in the story, she’s like… an actual child. She is a child who was spared by the huntsman sent by her stepmother to cut out her heart, she got away from her attackers and, after a brief cry followed by a “omg I’m so sorry for getting so upset,” she stumbled upon the dwarves’ house and was like “hmm you think they’ll let me chill here if I clean their place?” She was in a shitty situation but didn’t sit around and mope, and she never acted entitled or like she wanted something for nothing, and also the prince was barely in the story, he was just there to give our gal a symbolic happy ending! He was not a character, he was a token to show the audience “hey, if you work super hard and keep your hopes up, you’ll get your wish too!”
A RUclips channel called There Will Be Fudd did a great video on Snow White, which I just heavily pulled from, but his video also talks about what kind of environment 1937 was, the position Disney was in as a company at the time, and the development in technical skill that the animation showed compared to other animation of the time. When the actress said “it’s not 1937 anymore,” my first thought was “okay well maybe you should consider how Snow White slotted into the environment of 1937, so that you don’t just rip apart the whole thing willy-nilly and call it ‘an update’? Or maybe just make a movie out of a story you LIKE, since you obviously hate Snow White??” The way she talked about it is like saying “oh I like pizza, but the cheese and the sauce and the toppings need to be reworked.”

I’m a PoC and enjoy representation in tv and films, but her name is literally, “Snow White,” because her skin was, “White as snow,” her lips, “red as blood,” and hair, “Black as ebony.” That’s a very specific description. I’m fine with some creative license here and there, but it’s her very name and the title of the story. Inclusivity is wonderful when it makes sense for the character, it’s respectful, not stereotyped, and not pandering.

Fun fact about the whole “Can’t breathe in corset” cases. That means it’s an ill fitting corset. Which makes sense, since most people don’t own corsets, and costuming for films generally don’t have time for the corset and actress bodies to conform to them. They’re literally tight laced into the corset and then sent on set.

Came here to find this. Im so tired of corset= oppression. Women did hard labor in corsets/ stays in the past and in a lot of cases corsetry is better for the body than modern bras, of course when well fitted. Modern day bras are often the real enemy, poorly fitted, causing back issues. Wear a bra, wear a corset or don't wear anything, but like do it properly before making such social commentary on it. And if its a period piece, that apart of the job, so frustrating when movies just dont put in effort to either size or take them out completely and they all look ridiculous.

    • @RachaelTheRed
      @RachaelTheRed Год назад +39

Yes! The fact that not only are the corsets ill fitting but that they are trying to tight lace actresses that are already incredibly thin is the real reason the corsets are uncomfortable. It is incredibly difficult to tight lace when you are already thin because your body doesn't have squish. You are basically just trying to compress muscle and bone. What they should be doing is adding padding to the bust and hips (like the victorians did) to create a more dramatic ratio on such a slender frame. Like, the research is not hard to find...it's right there, but Hollywood is too lazy to use it.

And to be WORN properly. 99% of the time when they have actresses wearing a corset they're wearing it against bare skin. Yuck. Even slapping a cotton t-shirt under it would improve their comfort a ton.

Snow White has always been one of my favorite princesses. I'm mad about them changing the story entirely and then the crew refusing people who have dwarfism to actually be the seven dwarves. Plus the fact this actress is literally tearing apart a character that has been here for longer than she's been alive, is not going to help the box office. It's going to bomb BADLY. You don't have to change the original story. You don't have to tear apart the original character. Because that's going to cause riots and massive drops to your career.
Look at Snow White and the Huntsman. It was a good story. They kept it more to the storyline while making this Snow White a stronger, more leader type character. She didn't actually start "falling in love" until towards the end. Even so it was still a good movie. They kept alot of the original story in. Even adding some parts that includes the original grim brothers story of snow white.

My grandma was born in 1934 & passed at 86 in 2016 (remember this); I graduated high school in 2015, I use to LOVE talking & listening to her on the topics of her life & time growing up. During my years in high school, she once told me that she remembered (again, in her 80s) going with her grandmother to the movies in 1938 (then age 3; to those that don’t know, the S. W. & the 7D’s movie was only released in California in 1937 & to the rest if the public in 1938-don’t believe me, look it up, I did to when I heard) to see Snow white & the 7 Dwarves for the first time. She didn’t get to live long enough to see a live action remake of the very first Disney Princess, the one she grew up with & understandably, her favorite. I feel that if she were alive today, she would be appalled by the actress’s statements & insulted. Though my grandmother was a strong independent woman who was one of those to instill in me that I didn’t need a guy in my life to be happy & would be the end of the world if I am alone, she’s also the one who encouraged me to go out, fine & enjoy both life & love while still young & not to close my heart off & swear it off at a young age like I had once told her I was gonna. My grandma didn’t like the story of snow white because it involved a prince & true love’s kiss, but because it was about love in general. Love isn’t just between a man & woman, love is also shown in the film with how Snow White takes care of the 7 lil men like a mother: cooking, cleaning etc. & no, I’m not being sexist, men can do this stuff too, but for a LONG time before this point (including when the OG movie came out) thats where the thought process was, that women belonged: caring for kids, house & husbands, while men made the money. There was a time in history where women weren’t allowed to participate in theater & the female roles in shows would be portrayed by men in drag. Knowing Snow White was my grandmother’s favorite princess, I use to practice & imitate the characters voice all the time for her. It would creep my friends out because of how similar I sounded & how much I looked like the character (I have really dark brown-almost blackish hair, brown eyes & use to have very pale skin cause I didn’t like going in the sun very often) My grandma was 1/2 Italian-1/2 German descent. That actress should be grateful & honored to have been chosen to play the first OG Disney princess & not making such comments. I, myself am not an actress, but have always dreamed of being one; I & probably just about any other actress (pro or amateur) would likely KILL to even be offered such an honor as to play the role. The woman who voiced her oh so long ago was HAND PICKED by Walt Disney himself, this actress was picked probably out of thousands that auditioned & wanted it. None of the voice actors from the OG movie were ever credited (go check IMBD if you think I’m lying) & she has the audacity to insult a masterpiece that was so time consuming to make?-every single scene of the animated movie was HAND DRAWN panel by panel, no digital or CGI animation cause it didn’t exist; no, it was hand drawn, hand painted, they brought in live animals so the animators could study them & draw them just right, set up live in costume posing & reenactments of HOW the characters should look & move certain ways in the animation. I know this because I grew up with old VHS tapes & some of the Disney ones have behind the scenes footage (which can probably be found on RUclips today). How can people know where they’re going without knowing where they’ve been? Where does this actress get off insulting the OG fairest of them all? Honey, if you’re gonna insult the history of your role, as well as the generation that grew up with it (I know some of them out there are still around) the PLEASE do everyone a favor & step down to make way for a more deserving actress that will appreciate the opportunity & importance of the role she’s been bestowed.

If the actress is spewing all that, it makes me wonder if she’s ever even experienced love, know the value & meaning of it or just hates her career choice. Not to come across as racist-cause I assure you, I’m not, but Snow White’s a German fairytale & I’m pretty sure the Disney movie was supposed to be set in or in a similar setting to Germany; this actress is Columbian. I have no issue with this personally (my fav movie is Encanto) my “major malfunction” (as my grandma would say) is w/the actress’s comments/insults towards the history of the movie; towards not even a singular generation, but multiple-those who grew up with it & those worked on the movie itself, as well as the company that employed her to play the role. She doesn’t deserve the role.

It’s gross especially if we are keeping the 14 aspect. If Snow White wants she can consent to be kissed later. Take the MatPad road.

Again, Idc about race-the role should go to the actress that best nailed the audition, whatever race they maybe. Its the insulting the history & creators of the character/movie that boils my blood. The time, energy & money that went into it. All the original actors that were never credited for the voice acting they did. The deceased animators & Walt Disney himself whom HAND picked Snow Whites voice actress. Its ALL that that makes me mad. The OG voice was hand picked-HAND PICKED by the man who started it all himself. Who was she picked by? A group of judges that auditioned probably hundreds of thousands of women for the role. She wasn’t hand picked by anyone & isn’t special at all. Or at least not special enough to be opening her mouth to trash any movie/movie role’s history.

I think the dwarf thing is silly, because not only is it a species in a fantasy setting (like giants, elves) but it should bring into question how hollywood casts little people into roles. They obviously need more roles than dwarves or the lollipop guild, because confining them only to these fantasy subspecies for acting roles labels them as inhuman. Peter Dinklage in Game of Thrones really showed the range they can do, and honestly it's just sad they're not being casted for more normal roles, confining them only to embarrassing humor roles or fantasy roles. Taking away fantasy roles just makes it worse. Like, let them have that but give them MORE than that!
Also I feel like I can't give Disney any grace. I think Disney should pay their actors more (also their VFX/Animators A LOT more, they are the bones and blood of the industry) I think I'm just jaded on the Disney Live Action thing to the point I don't really care if the actors are passionate about their role because the corporation clearly isn't..... I'm very convinced the whole sh'bang is a money laundering/tax evasion scheme lmao. The AI actors thing just really proves they never cared.
So, imo less anger towards the casting crew, it's the exec's fault. It always is their fault.

One of my favorite Peter Dinklage roles was as Robin Williams's brother in The Angriest Man in Brooklyn because it had nothing to do with his size. I don't even think it was mentioned. Everything else I've seen him in relied on his dwarfism. Although I think Cyrano was brilliant. They just changed Cyrano's affliction from having a big nose to being diminutive in stature. Mr Dinklage demonstrates that little people (or he at least) have more to offer than just being small. He is a brilliant actor.

Because I wasn't going to degrade myself, I refused and dropped the idea of acting. People told me I should do it as it would get my foot in the door. But if I did that, there was no guarantee that I would ever get a real role. Then they should accept degrading roles all the time and see how they like it! We aren't objects for people's amusement. People usually wouldn't bully someone with other disabilities but they have no problem bullying those with dwarfism, which is also a disability.

My issue with Snow White is that "skin as white as snow and hair as dark as night" is quite literally why she is called Snow White. If they wanted to change it to "skin as dark as night and hair as white as snow" I'd respect the spin on it to "modernize it" while keeping the reason for the name similar enough. But it's why she's called Snow White. You cannot completely erase that. It's a core part of her character identity. Like the Witcher, I don't care about the color of their skin but Triss has bright red hair, Yennefer has purple eyes and smells of lilac and gooseberry. It's huge parts of their identities as characters and how people recognize the character and don't change that.

I agree. Part of what I liked about Cinderella was that they made it a new retelling of the story without copying most of the original animated film. There were parts and details that paid tribute, but they truly created a new thing. Most of the live-actions since then seem like they are trying to duplicate most of the animated film, while also "fixing" it. Some of those fixes are good - like explaining why the villagers in Beauty and the Beast aren't aware of the castle right next door. But a lot of them seem motivated by politics and pandering. The originals films may not have been perfect, but they are loved for good reasons. I wish Disney would focus more on telling a good story than trying to update the originals. There are also so many fairytales and folktales out there still- maybe try something new?

So I'd a 100% believe the claims of those actresses. It's like wearing an ill-fitting bra or shoes or even a pair of glasses that are way too tight.

Anyway, we moved locations from Burbank over to Glendale, and I literally got assigned an office. I was in this office for almost a year when someone freaked out that a temp had an office. Horrors! Poor guy coming down the spiral staircase with the TV was so focused on the turns and so relieved to be at (what he thought) was the end of the ordeal, when he got to the last few steps he tried to walk down them like regular stairs.

I can't bring myself to wear crocs. I work at a sheriff's office and the inmates in the jail wear bright orange crocs 😂

True loves kiss saved snow white. Love is a two way street. She felt the same towards the prince so she did save herself. Also she was ran off into the woods and made her own way with the partnership of the dwarves so, again, she did save herself.

Bro on the spiral staircase killed me 🤣I feel bad for laughing so hard though especially since he was so close to the end and saw the light at the end of the tunnel and yet.... lmao. I could easily watch that on repeat especially after a rough day.

Stocks are pretty unstable at the moment, but if you do the right math, you should be just fine. Bloomberg and other finance media have been recording cases of folks gaining over 250k just in a matter of weeks/couple months, so I think there are a lot of wealth transfer in this downtime if you know where to look.

Such market uncertainties are the reason I don’t base my market judgements and decisions on rumours and here-says, got the best of me 2020 and had me holding worthless position in the market, I had to revamp my entire portfolio through the aid of an advisor, before I started seeing any significant results happens in my portfolio, been using the same advisor and I’ve scaled up 750k within 2 years.

Honestly I don't even care about the Snow White debackle, I'm more pissed about the Rapunzel live action they're planning. NO HAIR, NO TOWER, NO KIDNAPPED PRINCESS. THE ENTIRE STORY OF RAPUNZEL, GONE!
Also, Disney, can we just stop trying to "live action" "reboot" whatever old movies? MAKE NEW ONES!!!!!!!!!!
