The switch is the one console I've owned since the Xbox 360. I've had pc ever since exclusively. And coming from a 144hz monitor run by a gtx 1080ti, I gotta admit, I love the switch. Fuck power when you have such amazing games to play anywhere you are. Truly an awesome console and my first Nintendo device ever. The best wishes to all switch fans!
I am a PC gamer and Switch is my first Nintendo console as well. I think that Switch is the only console that will appeal to pc gamers because it's something that's not trying to be a shitty PC.

I honestly never noticed any significant frame rate drops on the Wii U version. Fps wasn't an issue that harmed the gameplay, so it's good to see that the Switch version is improved for the more eagle eyed.
This game isn't being released for people who have a WiiU. If you have a wiiU and bayonetta 2, you don't need to buy it on switch, unless you really want to play it on the go. If you've never played Bayonetta 2 and don't own a WiiU, then this purchase is a no-brainer! Excellent game.

Personally, I get used to it after a few minutes. The first time I booted up the game on launch day, there was no information about resolution, so it surprised me how blurry the rain in the opening was.
It certainly is a contender. It's immensely satisfying when you quickly get a bunch of elemental orbs on a tough enemy and then chain attack through all of them, increasing the damage and bonus multiplier to insane numbers. My highest is x6773% for damage and x446% for bonus. I maxed out the damage on that combo and had all eight elemental orbs.
This game was so amazing. Thanks for the update. I think people need to play it first before judging it. Its beautiful. Also for all the PC Nerds ou there. This game is exclusive to Nintendo , as well as the 3rd game in the series. Who cares play it where its at. I am double dipping.

City Fox Mario Odyssey is first party by Nintendo developed for switch, it also didn’t come without compromises (720i in portable mode, distant objects render at 30 fps, etc.). Bayonetta 2 is a last gen port by 3rd party, runs better but not perfect.

Well, i played first Bayonetta on Xbox 360 but i was really skocked about Bayo2 exclusive for Wii U. Not angry but unexpected for me. Im glad with Nintendo for save this amazing hack n slash. People "want" to play this game, then Nintendo helps to publish this game. Now people want to play this game on the PC using the cemu? If you can't support this game, then at least don't steal it.
When they'll release every game on PC, we will stop using emulators. The fact that we can't buy and play them on PC, gives us the right to emulate them. None the less games on Wii and Switch look like shit right now because of the potato hardware, but it will look like that forever. Whereas on PC, the look of the game will scale with monitors and hardware.
Nintendo published it, then ppl wanted to play it, but didn't want to buy a WiiU. You can't hold it against them if they didn't support a widely unpopular platform. I supported it, but at least I realized I was in the minority. It's on Switch now, because ppl didnt get a chance to play it, because of said facts.

Platinum Games have said in interviews that after Sega cancelling the second game, they went STRAIGHT to Sony and Microsoft! And they both turned them down. Nintendo was the only one willing to fund Bayo 2. And the same with Bayo 3. Be happy that these get made at all, rather than not getting anything.

They should at least be able to push the resolution up whilst maintaining the framerate. The Switch has the GPU horsepower over the Wii U so it's disappointing for users who prefer to use docked mode. 900p60fps is what i'd expect minimum.
Maybe so, probably could of been optimized more too, but it is what it is. I accept console don't have the amount of choices PC has a long time ago.. You just gotta deal with whatever the developers do.
There's still time to improve or retroactively improve it like Rocket League, though as I said, it's just disappointing that they haven't as of this video been able to improve the game at all outside of stability.
Performance increase matters for a 60fps action game, especially when Wii U hovered around 40/45 fps at times And 6 years ago portable bayonetta was a big deal
It seems like they just didn't target docked mode at all, no changes from portable. That's unfortunate, most games can do 900p docked where they're 720p undocked, or at least crank the AF or something.
No issues with the lack of increase in native resolution. That can only mean it performs better (theoretically), which is what's most important in a game like this.
I can only remember about two cases in the wiiu version where the frame rate drop was really noticeable. - when she fights belief with Jeanne and when she is with Rosa near the lava. Otherwise I barely noticed and it didn’t impact my enjoyment of the game at all. But good to hear the Switch version has improvements
That's pretty much the main reason I wanted this on the switch. It's a great game that more people needed to play. And as much as I love my wii u. It's unfortunate it sold poorly making the amount of people who could play this very limited. I'll say it again. The wii u had a pretty damn good collection of games that are easily among the best. Those games only did poorly because the wii u sold poorly. Glad to see Nintendo fixed that with how well the switch is doing. Personally though I'm waiting on dark souls remastered. I need it so I can finally play the artorias of the abyss dlc. I know PC.. Or ps4 would be a better option. But portable dark souls beats the rest for me. No contest.
As always Switch is an amazing gaming handheld but a mediocre console i still enjoy mine but when i plug it in my TV it does feel last gen but when i play it in handheld its amazing. Hopefully Nintendo upgrades the screen to OLED in future revisions a nice way to make the graphics look better on screen
i didn't notest the framedrops on the Wii U because i was so entertained playing an awesome game, and yes maybe it has some drops but i grew up in the darker times of snes or nes frame drops.

I still hope for a PC version. Bayonetta 1 in 4k60 was a whole new experience, same as Vanquish. Nevertheless: Really looking forward for the Switch version first.
Still have the Wii U and this game digitally, never noticed a problem with framerates while playing, I beat the game and it is one of my favorites from the Wii U era.

@John Linneman You may personally prefer a steady 30fps over 45-55, but that doesn't make 30fps objectively better. As far as hard numbers go, Bayonetta 2 still has an advantage. 50 frames is more than 30, after all. ;)
I love that Nintendo actually picked up the Bayonetta franchise and has not dropped it since. They're who keep funding the games so I get why they aren't allowing it on other consoles. It would be nice to have a PC port for Bayonetta 2 after 3 comes out. Keep the newest games Nintendo exclusive.

I'm satisfied with simple ports for now knowing full well that a dedicated sequel is coming. This is the kind of series where I'd want all the games on the same system anyways.
I don't know if this is because I'm old (not really, I'm in my 30s) but I don't see that much of a difference and I don't see pixels in any version..........i don't know the game looked great on the Wii u i never noticed a slow down. People these days with the nitpicking the game is fine on the Wii u. I don't get why some people nitpick over these graphics these days but that's just me
I've kind of wondered whether Wii U games would see any performance boost from playing with the pro controller (or Wii remote if supported) with the gamepad completely disconnected, potentially alleviating a minor additional rendering load (roughly 31% of the pixel output in a 720p game, albeit usually always entirely 2D elements). Maybe 2018 is a bit late to be asking that question, but I'd certainly be interested.
It would be interesting to see a no-Gamepad hack in action, to confirm (or disprove) that. I'm inclined to think that the second screen takes an insignificant amount of GPU time to render, but I could be wrong. And of course, games like Star Fox Zero put a heavy load on the system by rendering two different 3-D views at 60fps!
Cae Herlin To see that, It would be need to code the game to use more power avaidable when a gamepad wasn't in use. But yes, the Gamepad was a CPU bottleneck.
Matheus Viana Yes, you'd have to code the game to ignore the Gamepad and not send it any video, but that's all it would take. Games like Bayonetta 2 are already programmed to use as much power as they can get, at least until they can maintain 60fps. Similarly, if the Wii U could be overclocked, it would automatically improve Bayonetta, no coding or hacks needed!
Really happy to see more stable performance than the Wii U. I think that's the most important thing anyway. But some more obvious visual enhancements would have been nice, even just a little bit of AA.
Fair to say I think that WiiU ports are disadvantaged on Switch. One major strength of Switch over WiiU is triple the effective available RAM. But Bayo2 wouldn't have been programmed with that in mind, now they still probably use most the extra RAM for frame buffering etc.., but a game built from ground up can take proper advantage of the extra RAM and introduce a larger variety of textures etc.., for more varied visual flair. Compare XenoChron to XC2.. XC1 looked great but environments employed rather a very singular look to each. XC2 colour pallettes, animations and variety within individual environments are greater
Seems really odd that it can do so much in handheld and then docked sees so little of an upgrade. Surely even a dynamic res to let us see how well it holds would be interesting.
It’s because all it does when it goes docked is that in creases the GPU clocks by 40%. I’m sure the chip could do better, but at the end of the day it comes down to thermal limitations with the Nintendo Switch

Figured this was the case since I found out docked mode was 720p. Still excited for these as they look a lot smoother than Wii U. But now Bayonetta 3 performance issues are practically guaranteed. Probably around the way Bayonetta 2 performed on Wii U originally. I suspect they’ll release it around the same time as an upgraded switch, for an option of better performance. That is if 3 comes out in late 2019 or so

Actually it's much more useful than the X, the Pro significantly improves VR and only costs £100 more than the Slim. The X is over double the price of ps4 slim and has no VR.
It's nice to see there are performance increases on the Switch version. I am curious to see how other Wii U games fare when they inevitably make the jump to the Switch.
On the contrary, Nintendo games are usually very interesting graphically. They're not necessarily cutting-edge, but the graphics are usually very well made and balanced in terms of assets quality, draw distance, etc. Their games are also generally very well optimized. Just because they're not 4K and are on weaker hardware doesn't make them less interesting.
Just like the "New 3DS' I absolutely think there will be a new Switch releasing in the next few years. The current Switch will probably just be referred to as the Switch 2017 model. I really wouldn't hold my breath for a 1080p screen. But, games like this will at least run at a locked 60fps. And, I see battery life being improved a great deal too.
My only issue with this Switch port is that it’s being released as 2 cart package. Meanwhile the collector’s edition in Japan has both games on separate carts and you don’t have to download one of the games. Smh.
After playing Jeanne for a while the framerate and input lag become very noticeable on the Wii U.. There was a few parts where it was just impossible to consistently Moth Within.
Hubblebub Lumbubwub It has to divide evenly into the 60hz refresh rate of televisions. A 30fps game shows 2 duplicate frames in a row, a 60fps one matches perfectly. Anything other than 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 10, 12, 15, 20, 30 or 60 fps will show up on screen as judder, or uneven response and visuals, as some frames will persist on screen longer than others. Judder is also known as Frame-Pacing issues.
Since I skipped the Wii U I was pretty bummed for not being able to play Bayonetta 2. I had the first game for PS3 and loved the hell out if, I love cuhrayzee games and Kamiya's work, I got its platinum trophy. Now that I decided to go with a Switch I can't be any more happier for being able to play this finally and on the go even. What good is it to have a powerful and costly console when you don't have FUN games on it? Nintendo understand this, they care about fun first which is what all companies should care for in first place.
"Improved Over Wii U!" But only slightly, and if a 10-15 frame uptick is all the Switch can have over the original---and not even a locked 60 fps---, I can see Bayonetta 3 perform even worse. Either Platinum Games has to downgrade the visual fidelity to maintain a lock 60 FPS, or keep the visuals on par with B2 and maintain the same performance quality.
Mario Kart 8 was ported to the Switch, and Nintendo bumped it to 1080p and maintained a smooth frame rate. But nevertheless, I do hope Platinum Games are aware of the limitations of the hardware and do B3 right.

I honestly never noticed any significant frame rate drops on the Wii U version. Fps wasn't an issue that harmed the gameplay, so it's good to see that the Switch version is improved for the more eagle eyed.
This game isn't being released for people who have a WiiU. If you have a wiiU and bayonetta 2, you don't need to buy it on switch, unless you really want to play it on the go.
If you've never played Bayonetta 2 and don't own a WiiU, then this purchase is a no-brainer! Excellent game.

Personally, I get used to it after a few minutes. The first time I booted up the game on launch day, there was no information about resolution, so it surprised me how blurry the rain in the opening was.
It certainly is a contender. It's immensely satisfying when you quickly get a bunch of elemental orbs on a tough enemy and then chain attack through all of them, increasing the damage and bonus multiplier to insane numbers. My highest is x6773% for damage and x446% for bonus. I maxed out the damage on that combo and had all eight elemental orbs.
This game was so amazing. Thanks for the update. I think people need to play it first before judging it. Its beautiful. Also for all the PC Nerds ou there. This game is exclusive to Nintendo , as well as the 3rd game in the series. Who cares play it where its at. I am double dipping.

City Fox Mario Odyssey is first party by Nintendo developed for switch, it also didn’t come without compromises (720i in portable mode, distant objects render at 30 fps, etc.). Bayonetta 2 is a last gen port by 3rd party, runs better but not perfect.

When they'll release every game on PC, we will stop using emulators. The fact that we can't buy and play them on PC, gives us the right to emulate them. None the less games on Wii and Switch look like shit right now because of the potato hardware, but it will look like that forever. Whereas on PC, the look of the game will scale with monitors and hardware.
Nintendo published it, then ppl wanted to play it, but didn't want to buy a WiiU. You can't hold it against them if they didn't support a widely unpopular platform. I supported it, but at least I realized I was in the minority.

Platinum Games have said in interviews that after Sega cancelling the second game, they went STRAIGHT to Sony and Microsoft! And they both turned them down. Nintendo was the only one willing to fund Bayo 2. And the same with Bayo 3.

720p docked is disappointing. I would have at least expected 900p minimum.
I rather 720p 55-60, than 900p or 1080p 30-50fps.
They should at least be able to push the resolution up whilst maintaining the framerate. The Switch has the GPU horsepower over the Wii U so it's disappointing for users who prefer to use docked mode. 900p60fps is what i'd expect minimum.
Maybe so, probably could of been optimized more too, but it is what it is. I accept console don't have the amount of choices PC has a long time ago.. You just gotta deal with whatever the developers do.
There's still time to improve or retroactively improve it like Rocket League, though as I said, it's just disappointing that they haven't as of this video been able to improve the game at all outside of stability.

It seems like they just didn't target docked mode at all, no changes from portable. That's unfortunate, most games can do 900p docked where they're 720p undocked, or at least crank the AF or something.

No issues with the lack of increase in native resolution. That can only mean it performs better (theoretically), which is what's most important in a game like this.
I can only remember about two cases in the wiiu version where the frame rate drop was really noticeable. - when she fights belief with Jeanne and when she is with Rosa near the lava. Otherwise I barely noticed and it didn’t impact my enjoyment of the game at all. But good to hear the Switch version has improvements
That's pretty much the main reason I wanted this on the switch. It's a great game that more people needed to play. And as much as I love my wii u. It's unfortunate it sold poorly making the amount of people who could play this very limited. I'll say it again. The wii u had a pretty damn good collection of games that are easily among the best. Those games only did poorly because the wii u sold poorly. Glad to see Nintendo fixed that with how well the switch is doing. Personally though I'm waiting on dark souls remastered. I need it so I can finally play the artorias of the abyss dlc. I know PC.. Or ps4 would be a better option. But portable dark souls beats the rest for me. No contest.
As always Switch is an amazing gaming handheld but a mediocre console i still enjoy mine but when i plug it in my TV it does feel last gen but when i play it in handheld its amazing.
Hopefully Nintendo upgrades the screen to OLED in future revisions a nice way to make the graphics look better on screen

Still have the Wii U and this game digitally, never noticed a problem with framerates while playing, I beat the game and it is one of my favorites from the Wii U era.
Bayonetta 2 already felt very smooth on WiiU, it had better framerate than most Ps4/XBO big games

@John Linneman You may personally prefer a steady 30fps over 45-55, but that doesn't make 30fps objectively better. As far as hard numbers go, Bayonetta 2 still has an advantage. 50 frames is more than 30, after all. ;)
It was pretty noticeably rough in some combat scenes, but still not too bad overall. I still prefer it over the strobing/blurry look of 30fps.
I love that Nintendo actually picked up the Bayonetta franchise and has not dropped it since. They're who keep funding the games so I get why they aren't allowing it on other consoles. It would be nice to have a PC port for Bayonetta 2 after 3 comes out. Keep the newest games Nintendo exclusive.

I don't know if this is because I'm old (not really, I'm in my 30s) but I don't see that much of a difference and I don't see pixels in any version..........i don't know the game looked great on the Wii u i never noticed a slow down. People these days with the nitpicking the game is fine on the Wii u. I don't get why some people nitpick over these graphics these days but that's just me
Improved performance is all I'm asking for this port and thankfully that's the case.
I've kind of wondered whether Wii U games would see any performance boost from playing with the pro controller (or Wii remote if supported) with the gamepad completely disconnected, potentially alleviating a minor additional rendering load (roughly 31% of the pixel output in a 720p game, albeit usually always entirely 2D elements). Maybe 2018 is a bit late to be asking that question, but I'd certainly be interested.
It would be interesting to see a no-Gamepad hack in action, to confirm (or disprove) that.
I'm inclined to think that the second screen takes an insignificant amount of GPU time to render, but I could be wrong. And of course, games like Star Fox Zero put a heavy load on the system by rendering two different 3-D views at 60fps!

Tropical Freeze when playing on the TV was a prime example. The GamePad screen was off entirely.

Yes, you'd have to code the game to ignore the Gamepad and not send it any video, but that's all it would take. Games like Bayonetta 2 are already programmed to use as much power as they can get, at least until they can maintain 60fps.
Similarly, if the Wii U could be overclocked, it would automatically improve Bayonetta, no coding or hacks needed!

Fair to say I think that WiiU ports are disadvantaged on Switch. One major strength of Switch over WiiU is triple the effective available RAM. But Bayo2 wouldn't have been programmed with that in mind, now they still probably use most the extra RAM for frame buffering etc.., but a game built from ground up can take proper advantage of the extra RAM and introduce a larger variety of textures etc.., for more varied visual flair.

XC1 looked great but environments employed rather a very singular look to each. XC2 colour pallettes, animations and variety within individual environments are greater

It’s because all it does when it goes docked is that in creases the GPU clocks by 40%. I’m sure the chip could do better, but at the end of the day it comes down to thermal limitations with the Nintendo Switch

Figured this was the case since I found out docked mode was 720p. Still excited for these as they look a lot smoother than Wii U. But now Bayonetta 3 performance issues are practically guaranteed. Probably around the way Bayonetta 2 performed on Wii U originally. I suspect they’ll release it around the same time as an upgraded switch, for an option of better performance. That is if 3 comes out in late 2019 or so

On the contrary, Nintendo games are usually very interesting graphically. They're not necessarily cutting-edge, but the graphics are usually very well made and balanced in terms of assets quality, draw distance, etc. Their games are also generally very well optimized. Just because they're not 4K and are on weaker hardware doesn't make them less interesting.
Just like the "New 3DS' I absolutely think there will be a new Switch releasing in the next few years.
The current Switch will probably just be referred to as the Switch 2017 model.
I really wouldn't hold my breath for a 1080p screen. But, games like this will at least run at a locked 60fps. And, I see battery life being improved a great deal too.
They likely will never go for a 1080p screen, not only to save money on the screen but just to ensure higher performance in handheld mode.

After playing Jeanne for a while the framerate and input lag become very noticeable on the Wii U.. There was a few parts where it was just impossible to consistently Moth Within.

Hubblebub Lumbubwub It has to divide evenly into the 60hz refresh rate of televisions. A 30fps game shows 2 duplicate frames in a row, a 60fps one matches perfectly. Anything other than 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 10, 12, 15, 20, 30 or 60 fps will show up on screen as judder, or uneven response and visuals, as some frames will persist on screen longer than others. Judder is also known as Frame-Pacing issues.

Since I skipped the Wii U I was pretty bummed for not being able to play Bayonetta 2. I had the first game for PS3 and loved the hell out if, I love cuhrayzee games and Kamiya's work, I got its platinum trophy.
Now that I decided to go with a Switch I can't be any more happier for being able to play this finally and on the go even.
What good is it to have a powerful and costly console when you don't have FUN games on it?
Nintendo understand this, they care about fun first which is what all companies should care for in first place.

But only slightly, and if a 10-15 frame uptick is all the Switch can have over the original---and not even a locked 60 fps---, I can see Bayonetta 3 perform even worse. Either Platinum Games has to downgrade the visual fidelity to maintain a lock 60 FPS, or keep the visuals on par with B2 and maintain the same performance quality.
This is still a port. Bayonetta 3 will be built from scratch for the Switch, and thus will be more optimized.
Mario Kart 8 was ported to the Switch, and Nintendo bumped it to 1080p and maintained a smooth frame rate. But nevertheless, I do hope Platinum Games are aware of the limitations of the hardware and do B3 right.

Mario Kart is one of their main sellers and it serves as a replacement for Mario Kart 9. This game screams ''you can play these first before Bayonetta 3 comes out'' and ''shit, we don't have a game for february''.
Idk how they're going to do it, but Bayonetta 3 will either look just as good or slightly more polished.
MIssed out on the Wii U version...will definiely buy for the Switch.
I disagree bayonetta 2 on the wii u looks awesome it also looks awesome on the switch too
