I was such a massive fan of this band. Had such an influence on my musical tastes which branched out all over the place. The sheer power of this track is immense. Definately one of my favourites
Oh man.........This is the GREATEST EVER CURVE SINGLE of them all - it fucking kicks ass like no other - it wipes the floor with the rest of the 'shoegaze' competition (yes, even MBV at their heaviest). This is what happens when you get Flood and Alan Moulder (also Toni's other) to instil a bit of the NINdustrial vibe into the recording sessions as their second album Cuckoo was much harsher and darker than their first. And what a transformation this was. Should have been a fucking huge hit..... it is immense - gleefully steamrollering its way like the electro-rock juggernaut that it is.
i love their music videos where everyones jamming about with guitars and stumbling about but i cant help wondering how many times they managed to smack each other with their instruments lol
This clip really looks like it's been taken from lars Von Trier's 1984 film "the Element of crime".....Same golden lighting, same rainy atmosphere of an advanced decaying world....Even Toni's lyrics "stick" with the atmosphere of this film.....I'd be curious to know if it's deliberate.... In any case, both are fantastic....
still listening too man. great music great voice. was wander when red that chick (forgot name sorry cognac lol)) was in Alan Wilder first solo 89 Bloodline. That voice I cant forget. She's gorgeous.
___it should be noted that this Curve album Cuckoo (1993) was released 7 months before Nine Inch Nails 'benchmark' album The Downward Spiral (1994), additionally both albums were produced and mixed by Flood and Alan Moulder!!!___
How come this band was not huge in the 90s? They are clearly awesome, and back then this kind of music was actually mainstream. They sure would have deserved it.
Garbage happened. Nothing against Shirley Manson and her band, they made great music equal to Curve's. Just that the Shirley Manson has more charisma and the media loved her more than Toni Halliday, no matter how pretty or talented Halliday is. No matter how much Curve worked hard to make great music, they can't fight back the media gushing all over Garbage. Again, no knock against Manson & co they're, just as talented as Toni Halliday, Dean Garcia and the rest of Curve. Blame the 90's music industry that favors one over another.
Ironic, considering they're trying to make pop music out of a mixture of rock, industrial, electronic & shoegaze. Toni & Dean were already pop veterans before Curve, with Dean being former Eurythmics member, while Toni had a solo pop career. Meanwhile, some of their songs do appear on various soundtracks, latest being Iron Man with Hell Above The Water. BTW, check out Dean Garcia's new band with his daughter, SPC ECO.
Can't I have a right to like both? Garbage & Curve are both legit talents with a lot of music experience behind them; Butch Vig and other members were top music producers who've helped with Smashing Pumpkins and Nirvana. Deepness is, well, subjective. I do love Curve's atmospheric sound and soaring guitars, but Garbage, while lacking Curve's sonic texture, have some really great songs beyond their overhyped singles. The problem is press & marketing. The music press in the 90's was brutal and biased. Garbage was overhyped by the media then as *THE* band of that decade, while they flip-flopped on Curve, either calling them good or generic. Blame the media for choosing Garbage over Curve and other legit bands. BTW, is it the 90's again? Never had this kind of debate since the Great Curve-Garbage of the early 90's 😉
Cuckoo is a masterpiece, one of the best albums of the 1990s
My parents raised me with this music. I remember having 4 or 5 years old and them jammin' at this tunes. Good times.
