When I first saw this I thought, "What's the matter? They couldn't get the rights to Shirley Ellis` `Nitty Gritty`?" ruclips.net/video/P2v8IgJdsm4/видео.html
I doubt if very many of the dancers who are now dancing to this song realize that this song was done by Miss. Dodie Stevens back in 1959. Dodie was only 13 years old when she first recorded the song; it went all the way to Number 3 on The Billboard 100. It peaked in April of that year ('59) and stayed on the charts for 19 weeks! I know that Dodie is loving the fact that her signature song is getting so much attention!! GREAT TO SEE THIS!!!
Thanks very much for adding more background on Chicago native Dodie Stevens and her "original" version of "Pink Shoe Laces" in 1959. She's still performing in her 70s with her daughter at Doo Wop concerts in the early 2020s...how cool is that? Cheers.
OK, so here is the situation. I'm watching this wonderful video on the PC in a spare bedroom. It's about 4:30 pm. My wife of nearly 55 years just walked in and asked me "Have we eaten anything today". I can't remember and have to think for a moment. Then we both burst out laughing. BUT, I sure remember Dodie Stevens, The Chordettes, this song and many others from listening to them on the great Chicago radio stations of that time. I was twelve years old and my future wife was eleven. I have been ill for some time. This brought a huge, huge smile to my face followed by a flood of happy tears. I can't wait to share this with my just turned thirteen year old granddaughter. She is gutsy and has performed popular songs on stage for several years at her elementary school. Maybe I can get her to perform this song in Junior High. I SO, SO needed this today. Thank you for sharing!!!
Rheumatoid arthritis is a serious disabling disease, as a patient of R A i can get behind the marathon. And i love the dance 💃! My feet and hands hurt every day, and the fatigue is horrible.
Best so far!!! Love the original to compare, and the call out to all the others you posted. Another one I love is the Nitty Gritty on the Judy Garland Show in 1964.
65 yrs and never heard of this song until now. Ordinarily I wouldn't give it much consideration, but the dance really gives it a much greater personality.
Without the dancing the music is fun too Imagine the times where hardly anyone had a television, not talking even about internet. The time this music was in....
Fun and interesting, but I don't recognize "the bop" they're doing in this vid. Our bop on the Texas Gulf Coast in that era didn't look a thing like that. Anyway, this was enjoyable. Thanks for the upload.
Loved it! It was easy to see who also knows how to do Shuffle Dance and Electro Swing....they were the ones that stepped the highest and lightest, or so it seemed to me 😊
Woo woo...thanks for commenting. Try this updated version posted a few days ago with the Savannah Bananas minor league baseball club....these Bananas make everything better: ruclips.net/video/7p2nnRbw1-Q/видео.html
From an era when novelty songs and dances weren't a novelty...they were just fun...it would be great if they would revive "The Stroll" which allows for a lot of variation...
"The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel" ran five seasons between 2017 and 2023 on Amazon's Prime channel, a streaming service that requires a monthly fee. Maisel is well worth watching...good hunting.
1:58 “Now Dooley had a feelin' we were goin' to war So he went out and enlisted in a fightin' corps But he landed in the brig for raisin' such a storm When they tried to put 'em in a uniform” Semper Fidelis 🫡❤️😁
This was the best idea since a long time. Getting so many people to move, get on their feet🎉
As grim as the world may seem, there will always be talented singers and dancers that will put a smile on your face.
Yes, indeed. And because of the Internet, we can watch performances from home that we would otherwise never have been able to see.
So true ❤❤❤😀
Maybe one of the reasons the world is grim, is there is lack of good fun music~to much negative music out there, drains the spirit, causing anger~
for about two years there was the Jerusalema dance challenge that was done by groups from all over the world
This looks like it was inspired by the dance done the "nitty gritty" on the judy garland show in the 60s.
I kept thinking the same thing.
Bobby Banas, baby!!
Yup
When I first saw this I thought, "What's the matter? They couldn't get the rights to Shirley Ellis` `Nitty Gritty`?"

Yes, it does. I like the guy on the far left the best.

Yesh, but the Chordettes version is SO MUCH better.
And she is still alive today.

Great story😊. Thank you.
Brought smile and thinking about days of innocent, no WiFi and plain simple entertainment
Those weird things known as a landline. God forbid a ring dial. Xxx
Where Black people weren’t really seen on television, and the Korean War, and we didn’t start the fire
Fantastic montage. Excellent dancing everyone.
A 9th-grade classmate of mine (in 1962) showed up at school wearing the entire outfit described in this song.
credits to all who took time to learn this dance. mothers, daughters, fathers, sons... cheers to you all wonderful people
The biggest applause actually goes to the choreographer who created this dance sequence. Great. Just great!
So true!
There needs to be some serious respect for Bobby Bannon and his Nitty Gritty performance that this is mimicking.
The song won't leave my head. 😢. But I can't stop watching these videos... maybe that's the problem lol
Everyone did an excellent job. WOW
Can’t stop smiling 😊
wipe that smile off your face...
I wish the dancers would smile. They all look so serious lol
I cant stop smiling. This is great. I pick Kausha Campbell in red wins. Deserves a prize.
And points for creativity too for doing the dance again as Wednesday Addams!
I'm obsessed with this song and the dance. I smile every time I watch one of these videos.
It is a masterpiece! This is genius!💖💖💖💖💖💖💖
OMG I’m in this! Thank you! What a fun compilation ❤
Watched a second time to be sure I caught you : )
I like that you wore shoes with pink shoelaces!
Absolutely delightful to watch - that song brings me back to 7th grade in 1959 or 8th grade. I wa soooo young. 😂Holy cow.
Gawd we need more fun stuff like this nowadays.
Love love ya for saying so...I could not agree with you more. Cheers.
Very fun, love the girls in the polka dot dresses, they did a great job.
Sometimes the internet has some real value. 😊
Rheumatoid arthritis is a serious disabling disease, as a patient of R A i can get behind the marathon. And i love the dance 💃! My feet and hands hurt every day, and the fatigue is horrible.
It's a catchy song and goofy dance and so fun to watch. Thanks to all that posted and making this a fun dance craze.
The song and the dance are addictive. I get mesmerized.
1959.. Great Year..I was born NYC
Best so far!!! Love the original to compare, and the call out to all the others you posted. Another one I love is the Nitty Gritty on the Judy Garland Show in 1964.
Yeah, this was obviously more than inspired by Bobby Banas and his Nitty Gritty choreography.
yes. still the best after all these years. ruclips.net/video/8S3Yt-NxY0E/видео.html
@@elainehelms4076 had the same thought. the guy on the front row, right side is doing his banas interpretation.
@@jobob47
I spotted him while they were waiting in the wings, getting his body into that kind of contortion. 😂
Shout out to the "Running Man" from Utah Saints - Something Good as well!!!
It's the Nitty Gritty dance!
Love this! Thank you for compiling these awesome clips.
I've watched this many times! Its well done and fun to watch!
This answers So Many questions! Love the compilation!
Thanks for this compilation! You've answered my questions of where this craze came from! Now if only I could dance!
I have really enjoyed watching all the dancers perform this dance
I had an Oldies tape when I was a kid, and this was my favorite song.
It was a fun song. Funny how, though it's been several decades since I've heard it, I was able to sing along word for word. How about you?!
I honestly needed this, thank you!
OMG, every once in a while, you stumble upon a jewel; I did tonight. I can't stop watching this.
I absolutely ❤ this, it puts a great big smile on my face😁
Thanks for sharing 😄👍
Love the compilation!!
This is such a fun dance to watch...big smile every time i watch
GREAT SONG AND AN AWESOME BUNCH OF DANCERS !
This was so much fun to watch!
Sooo fun to watch!
65 yrs and never heard of this song until now. Ordinarily I wouldn't give it much consideration, but the dance really gives it a much greater personality.
I am a year younger than you. The song came out in 1959. Doubt if you remember it.
It is sooo gooood! I love it!
Love it❤😊
The BEST, they nailed this!
Hey, what goes around comes around! Great way to stay in shape 💃🕺have fun everyone 👏👏👏💥
Aw this was great, thanks for taking time to edit and share
I do love this, so catchy ❤
They all killed it but my fave was the girl in the red dress at the front.
Love this!!!
Without the dancing the music is fun too
Imagine the times where hardly anyone had a television, not talking even about internet.
The time this music was in....
Love those 1960s+ Great dances, music, and life!
Indeed. What's not to love?😊
Totally fantastic
I love ‘50s music!
Can’t imagine how the guy in the middle of the first group doesn’t have whiplash with his head bouncing like that
The girl dressed as Wednesday is my favorite...so fitting for the character of Wednesday!
Yep, she’s the best!
Love this song
Fun and interesting, but I don't recognize "the bop" they're doing in this vid. Our bop on the Texas Gulf Coast in that era didn't look a thing like that. Anyway, this was enjoyable. Thanks for the upload.
Loved it 😊
finally a tiktok dance trend that is actually a dance...
Loved it! It was easy to see who also knows how to do Shuffle Dance and Electro Swing....they were the ones that stepped the highest and lightest, or so it seemed to me 😊
ILOVEIT!!!!!!
Awesome dance!!😅
Loved this song when I was a kid. 😂

С большим удовольствием посмотрел этот клип, ну что сказать? Надоела политика, побольше вот таких роликов. Спасибо!!!
Yes, and thank you...it is a relief to get away from politics sometimes and just enjoy people having fun. Cheers.
Superb!!
This started as a spoof of Bobby Bannon and friends doing The Nitty Gritty . Groovy !
Yup...spoofs are all the rage these days. Cheers.
Excellent 🎉 Bravo 🎉❤

I love how stoic they all look
Kausha_Campbell absolutely killed it!

@@JohnLeGear I love it how to put the opposition off... 😂
I swear i see Bobby Banas influence in the moves!
Yup!
Absolutely. Mr. Nitty Gritty!
Is any one else amazed that this many humans can do this routine so well?
so fun!
Its such an earworm.
Dude in front on the right throwing serious Bobby Banas vibes.
If any of you know the dance called "The Jerk," you can really where the moves originated from.
I'm happy!
From an era when novelty songs and dances weren't a novelty...they were just fun...it would be great if they would revive "The Stroll" which allows for a lot of variation...
Great 👍
Super❤❤😍😍💕💕
I'm sooo glad that this/ these type of thing is being taken seriously as social history? Can you imagine all that's been lost of history?😮
Amen.
great
I like how the show version it's imperfect. Not every dance does the same loves or is exactly energetic
Seems the men were more energetic than the female dancers
@@TokyoBlue587 To be honest, it looked like they were having more fun with it.
How have I not seen Mrs. Maisel OR THIS????
