This year, at the Venice Biennale (now through Nov 24, 2024) France is represented by the contemporary artist and poet Julien Creuzet. Jimerson takes France 24 viewers on a journey through Creuzet's immersive installation in the French Pavilion, where the worlds of nature, culture, and imagination merge. This year's Biennale’s theme- "Foreigners Everywhere”-deeply resonates with Creuzet’s work.
The artist’s Martinican roots play a central role in his explorations of cultural hybridity, migration, and the history of colonialism. In this segment, Jimerson highlights the many references in Creuzet’s current Venice installation to the landscapes of Martinique, Parisian monuments, and myth, inviting viewers to reflect on the experiences of belonging to multiple worlds.
