- This is our 1964 Ford Galaxie 500 2 door hardtop that we rescued from a local junkyard .The car has been sitting for 30 + years outside in Tennessee . If you watched the last video you saw us winch it out of the weeds and vacuum it out and cleaned up the engine .It has a 390 fe big block , 3 speed automatic transmission, and Ford 9 inch rear axle.

Thank you so very much for sharing this with me. I just love you’re video’s. And I just love you’re family.
I appreciate that you're involving your children. That solid relationship is extremely important.
Thank you
Have only been watching a few months getting to these older videos you do such an awesome job
Finally some more sleeperdude!! Well worth it everytime!
Thank you
1973 I saw my future Father-in -Law buy a used FE(352)Ford engine from a wrecking yard for a 64 Mercury Wagon...pulling the used engine rocker arm covers...it had sludge...he cleaned up that engine...Installed it...IT RAN PERFECT...NO KNOCKING AT 1st START UP OR SMOKE AFTER 1 MINUTE & AFTER...WE BOTH WERE AMAZED!!! GOOD JOB DAD...!!!
That’s awesome Thank you
Another UK check in. Good work on that timing man. Shows how well you know them...
Thank you
@@Sleeperdude I got kinda spooked....at least tape the top up and brush a Lil dirt on it .....shiny stuff scares me
@@Sleeperdude put that fresh carb on a boat tank from the start wouldn't want to get that hog slop in a new carb
One of these was going to be my first car. 1964 Galaxie 500 XL. Bucket seats with the shifter in the console on the floor. Beautiful car. White with a blue interior.
Had a factory Ford AC unit that would literally freeze your nads off in the hottest parts of summer!
It had the 390 with a big 4V carburetor on it.
My Dad wrecked it when a wheel bearing went bad and the wheel came off. Knowing him, he was probably doing a hundred when it happened!
I was 14 years old and simply crushed. Was so looking forward to having the car when I turned 16!
That’s a good story, too bad
After a long day of driving it's time for my ten hour break. I enjoy watching y'all as I wind down for the night. Thank y'all God Bless.
I’m glad you enjoyed it thanks for watching
Done 17 years OTR but nowadays I'm home every night! Not too long ago we had no internet we just had to read books out on the road at night.
My father, born in McMinnville in Warren County, pronounced Vienna sausages, "Vyeeners." I haven't heard that pronunciation since he died in 1978. I loved hearing it again. When I was Ralphie's age I would ride with my father in an 18-wheel truck; he'd sit a can of "Vyeeners," potted meat, and a sleeve of saltines on the truck's dash and when we'd get home and my mother would ask if he'd fed me a hot lunch, he could truthfully say, "yes." Lord, I miss him. You're blessed to have such a fine "swamper." (My father's term for me when I was Ralphie's age.) Oh, I enjoy your videos too...I'm eager to see more of the red '64.
That’s awesome I’m glad we brought back some good memories for you keep watching we got more coming of this car ..
And a brand new exhaust system!! The 390, sounds pretty strong. Good engine from Ford. Keep it Rocking guys!!!👍👍
Yes it needs an exhaust
@@Sleeperdude why do not you check if there are any fuses that have burned over 🤔
My 64 Galaxy 500 was a convertible beater, it ran on seven cylinders due to a burnt valve, that car couldn’t be killed. The old Ford sounded kind of funky but that 390 took me and my friends all over Northern Californian, it bucket seats with Center counsel and shifter. I had to manually put the top up and down because the hydraulic lines liked to dump all the fluid in the trunk.
That’s a great story
Everyone digs Tri Fives and 60s Impalas, rightly so I do as well. Ford made some great iconic cars over the same time period. I’m happy your saving one.
I’m glad we are saving her too
One thing i like about big block Fords are the distributor being up front so you can get to it to replace and set points , cap and wires . Had a 65 Galaxy 500 351 with C- 6 in it that old gurl would boogie . At the time my brother had a 76 Grand Prix with a 400 in it and my old Ford would run off and hide from him , it made him pretty mad my old junk could whip his flashy car .
Exactly !!!! Thanks for watching
Omg the goat and the kitten, cuteness overload 😍 💖
It’s a zoo around here
Yeah, that kitten was so brave looking the goat in the face.
That was really precious 🐈🐈⬛🐐🐑
Yea that ol 390 sounds pretty good. Too bad the car is so rough. I like seeing these ol forgotten beasts breath life again. Even though it's not gonna be restored.
Yeah we are gonna have fun either way
Casings and hoops! Have never heard those references before! Congrats on '64 start-up..greetings to Ralphie, Rocky and everyone in Tennessee! Glad you like the Opel fob....
Thank you
Souvenirs, souvenirs...my very first car, same color, I was 16 and it was in 1971 !
Bought it off a farmer for 300.00$.
Twas a 352/2 barrels, automatic. weighting 2 and half ton.
At one time, I drove it for 3 weeks with no brakes whatsoever !
I stopped the car by shifting in neutral then reverse pushing the trottle as needed...lol !
At one time, the gas tank was mounted in the trunk...again, lol !
Many other adventures and that within the nine month I owned it.
Thanks for the memory !
That’s a cool story
I am so great full to Holley. I raced that double pumper for years. Bought several Holley carbs in my lifetime. When I was a younger, we would change out Carter’s and Rochester’s for hollies. Love your channel. God bless you and your family.
I really like them to. Thank you
There’s something really relaxing about these videos.
I’m glad you like it
Let's go! UK checking in 🇬🇧🇺🇲
Us checking in 🇺🇸🇺🇸
Japan checkin' in. Bansai!
Those 1963 , ' 64 Galaxies hardtops were sharp looking in their day and are beautiful when restored !
I really like the 1963 and 1964 full-sized Fords. Worked on several of them in my H.S. auto shop class. The teacher had worked at a Ford dealer, so he them inside and out. I did a valve job on a 1963 with a 352.
wow an 18 pack of vienna, Party at Sleeperdudes... looks like you brought another abandoned car back to life, cant wait to see you driving it around the field. those 500's take me back to the old time Nascar days
Exactly !!!!!!! Thanks for watching
My first car was a red 64 Galaxie 500!! Was my brothers, then my sisters then mine. Loved that car.
That’s awesome
Awesome video those 390’s were great engines always go getters after sitting for 30 years.looking forward to more on this Galaxie Your videos are never boring always a lot of information for people who had these cars like me.
Thank you I appreciate it
Hi everyone I got up this morning early to go pick up my engine n transmission for my 1965 galaxy 500 I am going to get this car out of the garage today
that's ok you can make it a long video there interesting, entertaining, educational and never boring there all great
Thank you
My first time watching your video. Like what I see. Bringing old cars back to life. Love those goats you have. The little ones are a joy to watch.
Thank you really appreciate it
It was great seeing you get this old beast running! Looking forward to next week! Take it easy; from Friendsville, TN!
Thank you
Don’t know if you ever tried an air chisel on the brake drums? When I was wrenching and doing construction work, always used to free up hydraulic fittings and rusted up stuff all the time. Never did a lot with cars but always on trucks and heavy equipment. Awesome channel and love the videos. Just starting to go backwards now and see others from your channel. Thank you sir
I'm pretty new watching the channel and from Canada eh....so when you said Vieenya's I didn't know what you were talking about. Now I've seen the can and its Vienna sausages....so now I'm intrigued and I'll guess I'll have to try out an RC cola with some Vieenya's for my next celebration! Nice job on getting that old 390 making smoke again....love the channel!
That’s funny you should definitely try them
Beautiful music to my ears. I have a '63 out here in the barn that will shake the slab of my 40x50 foot shop. l hope she's healthy.
That’s awesome
Such an awesome video! My dad had a '64 Galaxie 500 XL with the same 390 motor, same color and everything! Only difference was he had bucket seats and 3-speed manual on the floor. Really enjoy your channel! Love the wagon too!
Thats awesome thank you
My dad had a 64 he picked up at the factory, had his name on a plate in dash...awesome car
That’s so cool
You got me excited on tbis one. I love the style of the 64 Galaxy coupe. You guys are the greatest!
I’m glad you liked it
My favorite engine, and one of the first cars I bought. Good job guys.
Central California watching
Thanks for watching!
Good job on getting the engine going. A '64 Galaxie was one of my favorite cars back in the day. I love the sound of that 390 she is ready to roar down the road, good stuff dude and thanks for the video.
Thank you for watching
I got my Sleeperdude hoodie today. It's awesome, and now I can look as cool as Ralphie I'm so excited.
That’s great glad you liked it
Another great video sleeperdude. I like how everyone helps you on your projects. Love how rocky helps out to. Found your chanel about one month ago and have watched all you videos keep up the great work. 🇦🇺 👍
Wow !! Thank you I appreciate it
@@Sleeperdude All good mate I really enjoy what you do with the old cars. With you old falcon you could find parts in Australia for them still.
@@Sleeperdude just looked it up Rare Spares Australia they would have parts for your falcon.
I love watching your videos. Gotta love that Ralphie that boy is so fun to watch. Such a good kid👍🙂
Thank you
Love hearing the old girl running again. Your microphone kept droping in and out .Tell Ralphy he has some cool slippers.
Thank you
I’m losing my mind. I remember you getting the station wagon, but I don’t remember this car…I love it!
Yeah we did a rescue from the junkyard and an inside cleanup on it might wanna go back and check it out . Thanks for watching
I love this project!!! What a cool car. Getting this running and driving is amazing. Such character.
Thank you
Well you are getting a real nice collection of those "Fix-Or-Repair-Daily' cars - It is a handsome old girl well worth saving
Yes I am
Awwww, Son. Between Ford Fest and Holley, you just need to move the family to Bowling Green.
I do love beech bend park
Good evening boys, I worked on them all the time 40 years ago. I am happy for you guys knowing more about them than I do
Thank you
Enjoy watching you and Ralfy. Looking to see the 390 going. I have a 69 f100 with a 390 thats been sitting for 15 yrs and sure need to do get going. Afraid of what I'm going to fine.
Yeah you never know what your getting into until you jump in .. thanks for watching
Great video guys,,, Love seeing a good old Ford from the days when they made them to last a lifetime!!!!! Great job of trouble shooting,,,, just don't run that big block without some kind of cooking to long,,,, the heat will take the head gaskets quickly,,,, Thanks for sharing and love Ralphy helping you too,,, these are moments in time you will both treasure forever!!!! God bless!!!
I hope so thank you
Have never worked on a car in my life but this is just very interesting and informative. I learned stuff today 😆
Always wanted a galaxie 500 great video as always. Makes me smile after a hard day
I’m glad you enjoyed it ..
@@Sleeperdude can’t wait to see that thing running down the road running open headers even just for the video.
Now this car is a true keeper. Lon from Ohio...
I think so
You got it running, that's always a good start on any project 👍
That’s right
Great video had 64 galaxy when I graduated high school in 1979
That’s great
That drum puller sure saves a lot of hard work. A fine job reviving the old Ford. If this is a ongoing project it will be interesting to see the outcome. Good luck.
Thank you . Yes the drum puller works better than I thought it would
Yassir- a RC an' a Moon Pie🌙just makes tha' whole day flow rat along thar.
Good video my dad bought a 1964 Galaxie xl 500 that we took to the World's Fair in NY it had a 390 4 bbl. the steering wheel would move out of the way when you opened the door was a fast car.
Glad to see you teaching your son how to work on old cars and keep them going.
That’s a great story thanks for watching
Assuming you are going to replace the master cylinder, you should put in a dual chamber. Likely one from a 67 Galaxie would be a good first choice. You will need another brake line and the brake distribution block for that application, too.
Ok thanks
A guy I worked with had a 64 ! Love the looks of the cars ! Made cars with style those days ! 👍🏻
Without a doubt my favorite car when I was growing up. My dad had one and my mom kept it and I learned to drive in it. It had a 352 FE block with a four-barrel carburetor. It was amazing how much horsepower these engines made. One of the interceptor versions built in the early '60s produced over 300 horsepower.
That’s awesome thanks for watching
@@Sleeperdude My mother put over 135,000 miles on that engine and it went through about three clutches (three speed on the column). It had power steering but standard brakes and no air conditioning. The shape of the valve covers reveals that that may be a later '60s 390 ---- the ones for '64s were round on top similar to the Thunderbirds. The 352 was a truck engine before they put them in cars. Those old cab-over box trucks had 352s in them.
Love what you're doing. Since you've changed the points, rotor button and cap, clean and smear some grease on the distributor points cam and put a few drops of oil down the center of the shaft. That will lubricate the bob weights. Some WD40 or blaster on the base plate will free up the advance mechanism as they freeze up with age. Check your vacuum advance unit is good and you will solve a lot problems. Jeff. (Australian mechanic of some vintage) As we say in OZ 'Cheers Mate'
Good idea thank you
I had a 390 that had sat for a long time, after I got it running the valve stem seals were brittle and crumbled up eventually making their way through the screen on the pickup tube and into the oilpump where they locked the pump up and sheared the roll pin in the distributor gear that drives off the camshaft, wasn't an easy fix.
That’s not good
i bought that same carb a few months ago for my old mercury , they are great
Yes they are
You really need a ground on the choke so it will heat up and open and the choke should be open around 1/4” even when cold. I can’t believe the plugs didn’t foul out!
It has a factory wire .. I know me either
Almost sounds like it has a high lift cam? Either she's running really rough at idle or she's loping. Of course, you don't have the carb dialed in yet, either. Like the old 390. FE's have a unique sound.
Part of that was the choke needs adjusted
@@Sleeperdude I thought it was too much closed, too, the whole time. It ran better when you pulled it open even when it was dead cold. But it is great they sent you the carb with the electric choke. I never want one that doesn't have that.
Glad to see your getting support.
Thank you
LOL This is at least the 3rd or 4th time Rocky has gone out of his way to try and eat your sockets. They must be some kind of a goad delicacy. haha Nice job getting another one going! Unless the engine gets water soaked, not much else will stop old iron from firing up!
Yeah it’s a constant struggle, thank you
Can't believe it started !!
Always loved the Galaxies, great body lines. Great job 👍🏽
Hey there Ralphie 🤣
Thank you
Great fun watching you and your family enjoying the best hobby there is,keep pushing on success is just around the bend.
Thank you for your support
Note to self always turn on ignition switch before cranking !! I've done it before !!!
Yeah it happens to us all sometimes
Sure hope u and Vice Grip Garage can collab sometime. I'd be rolling on the floor laughing out loud!
That would be cool
She smoothed right out after a few minutes, sounds good
Thank you
I would love to see you get this one where the Falcon is as far as running and driving. Love the channel. Keep up the good work. All the best from Mt. Juliet, TN
That’s the plan thank you for watching
Note to small block chevy , distributor up front , not out back where you ruin your family jewels laying over the fender to get at points and they are down deep so you drop needed things into never never land !!
Awesome video. Enjoying watching this beast come to life. Keep it up!!!
Thank you
You could've filled the engine up with kerosene and let it run for a little bit. Then drain it back out. It works great to clean up an old sludged up engine like that. I had an old high mileage car that burnt the heck out of oil, and we ran kerosene through it. It cleaned it up super good. It stopped smoking and it didnt burn a drop of oil after that.
That’s good info thank you
Well you got it running that's definitely a plus there. New set of mufflers and go through the transmission and the brakes and you will be ready to race that at Daytona next year. Thanks for the fun video
That’s right thanks
That spacer you called wood, is actually phenolic plastic, old school heat resistant, heat soak, vapor lock preventing plastic. If it's in good shape, keep it.
Ok thank you
Vienna sausage was a food staple at our house when I was growing up 😁
Me too , one of the 4 major food groups
Thank You for shed loads of laughs R n S !! God Bless You n Your Family, and the Pro Inspection Goats too. Fascinating will it work channel, also thouroughly enjoyable. TY.
I’m glad you liked it thanks for watching
Neat to watch back the old videos compared to your new ones 😀 ❤. Love you guys
Carb spacer looked to be made of Phenolic resin...pretty common to run across those on old stuff..
Ok thanks
@@Sleeperdude That spacer material is also know as Bakelite
Them Libby’s Vienna’s are the best ones the Libby’s chicken Vienna’s ones are good too with Ritz Crackers too
Looking forward to seeing more of this Galaxy. A good pressure wash would bring the color back most definitely.
Ok thanks for the tip
I think the question of the day is where do you find the different flavors of the Vienna Sausages?
Usually at Walmart or Food City the smoked are pretty good then the barbecue..
Original only for me. Was eating them daily for months then had blood work done. Can't understand why my bad cholesterol went up 11 points???? Lol
Man I love it my family had one of those in the early 70s but our was blue. I have a lot of memories of that car.
That’s great thanks
Boy, your one lucky dude! You must of hung up the horse shoe, to have start up that way. I think you have save sometime with the new carb. I think your son is starting to be a car guy.
Finally !!!
Michanical engineer..Ralphi one day we hope seeing him.
Had a 67 and a 68 Galaxie, the 68 had the 390. What a sweet engine.
Awesome
LOL "that looks like a five carat ring on a big, fat, hairy guy's hand!"
I’m glad you liked it
Pull up on shifter with left hand when cranking. Old problem from back in my day. Neutral safety switch keeping it from cranking. Worn out shifter parts.
Ok thanks
It's an early Xmas gift 🎁🙂
For sure
Reminds me of my '65 Galaxie 500, 390cid, 4 bl. I bought it in late '65 do it was only about a year old. I babied that car. I loved that it had room to work on everything. Great car. 2 door with no center post, like yours. Bench seats. Great car on a date. Fire Engine red. BTW, I have never heard Vienna pronounced that way.
That’s a cool story
Muy buen trabajo como siempre lo que más me asombro que siguen funcionando después de tantos años saludos desde Temperley Argentina
Yeah man. Like the old Galaxie. Phenolic spacer.
Thank you
It's an FE, it's not will it run, it's how long will it take us to start it! The secret to longevity is a 400lb intake manifold. Lol
That’s right
Man u are not lying about that intake it's heavy as I don't know what.
Is there a filter between the pump and carb? The reason I ask is that old pump diaphragm could come apart and the debris will end up in the carb. Also the factory electric choke wire may not have full 12 volts that Holleys require. I think Ford carbs were setup for less than 12. Hope this helps, ......I always enjoy seeing your family taking part in your videos.
Good point thank you
not the original engine. wrong valve covers. a 64 FE has a oil fill tube in the intake manifold. Likely a 65 or 66 352 engine. The 67 has power by ford embossed in the valve covers. 65 and 66 most 390's where a two bbl carb. and the 354 where all 4 bbl.
Yes I I am aware that the engine has been swapped the person I bought it from said it has a 390 out of a later model
Roky likes that cute cat. I really hope that you all get that old school car running and driving.
Yep more videos of her to come thanks for watching
Finally you're starting to get some humor!! I mean you had a little bit more of it this time..lol you must have checked out vice grip garage my man Derek... Anyways your channel is getting better dude is what I'm saying. I look forward to your videos dude keep it up!
Thank you
Love those Galaxies. Especially the 63 and 64
They are cool
Btw, with my goat comment I wasn't referring to anything derogatory, I was referring to those old videos of goats screaming like humans. Apparently none of y'all ever heard of those, but they were hilarious. I may be a little non-PC at times, but for someone to think that I was referring to something derogatory like that makes me feel dirty.
I've seen some of those videos, hilarious 😂. I've also raised goats, also hilarious 🤠
My first comment was deleted and I didn't want Sleeperdude or the moderators to get the wrong idea about me...I can imagine what whoever deleted it was thinking at first when they read it.
@@Brock_Landers who knows, there are a lot of snowflakes out there.
I believe that ignition switch has been moved.
If my memory serves me correctly, Fords of that vintage had the ignition switch on the left side of the dash!
Ok thanks
THATS A 352 TRUCK ENGINE ...
I know it’s not the original engine to the car I was told by the person I bought it from it’s a 390 out of a later model
