"It just showed up in the mail; I know I didn't order it." Boy, I bet you hear that phrase in a lot of our homes lately, Robert! ☺
This is going to happen at my house later today.
Silly putty as an alternative to masking tape is such a great idea. You have no idea how many problems this will solve for me. Masking tape has been the bane of my existence.
Interesting idea now gonna have to try that technique thanks sensei Robert
Poster Tac, blue Tac, masking fluid, are some products you may wanna try if you dislike regular masking tape. It’s so annoying to cut the tape on the pieces you wanna paint because the tape “breaks” and cuts unevenly
@@SamRK-1000 I paint mainly organic pieces. Usually stuff I or someone has 3d printed, I am definitely gonna try all those things because cutting masking tape in the shape of an eyeball is really hard. And masking tape doesn't stick, at all like idk why it's even called tape. I spent 3 hours taping up an aura (for dbz) and the second I started airbrushing all the tape flew off, wouldn't wouldn't stick to itself. I tried the silly putty on that same piece last night and it was so easy. I've never heard of masking liquid but that would help me get those small spots like eyes and lips
With the ultrasonic cleaner, if you have a way to vent the fumes safely (like a spray booth vented outside, with an explosion proof blower), you can use solvents like acetone in jars. Just put the ultrasonic cleaner in the booth and turn on the fan. If the ultrasonic cleaner has a heater, don't use it, if it has a plastic lid, don't close it (the fumes will melt most of the plastic lids I've come across).

The sander looks really nice! And the nippers too.
Great video! A tip on the ultrasonic is I use Zip-lock lock baggies in it, so I don't ever have to clean it out. In the tip you did, you could use a baggie as a liner and when you're done zip it up and take it to the sink. It also allows you to see all the gunk that comes off of something.
Small jar to save IPA sounds so obvious now, but never would have thought about it on my own
I bought 2 paint strainers direct from NEOECO for $9.62 including postage. I have the Dspiae sander (cost $42.00 direct from Dspiae) which has transformed my model finishing standard. It is such a pain having to keep rubbing down the surfaces and I could never get the narrow angles or curved pieces done until I used this sander. I also bought the DSPIAE - ES-P Portable Electric Sanding Pen for $25 off Green Stuff World. I no longer need my Dremel for modelling which although a good tool it is too fast for modelling purposes. Thanks Rob for demonstrating these products so well.👍
I have both of those nippers. I started out with the purple ones and bought the orange ones in January. I use them the same way you did and am very pleased with them. I’ve used blue tack for camouflage patterns, silly putty who have thought!! Thanks for sharing your experience with us.
Thanks Robert for the nice tips an hacks a especially the silly putty I'll have to get some an see what I can do with it especially I'll have to try a few different ways to do flames 🔥 an thank you for the time an effort you put into your videos for us
Robert,
Squadron Mail Order is currently moving to Chattanooga and are coming out with their version of the God-Hand Nippers that are made in the US.
You might want to give them a shout and try them as well.
My dad was a doll house builder in the 50s and 60s. He didn't take it seriously when the first Weeble Wobbles plastic houses came out in the 70s. In the 80s, the union replaced his crew with Trolls, but they only knew how to make furniture that you assemble at home. His last words were, "Not MY Dream House!" ... Tragic.
Man if they'd just make a glass file attachment for the reciprocating sander we'd really be cooking
Sillyputty can be used for highly technical masking work if you sculpt it with dental tools. Im not 100% sure how safe it is to use on solvent based paints. It’s perfect for miniatures with complex surfaces. If you ever have difficulty removing silly putty from a nook or cranny a silicone tipped sculpting tool works like a magnet to pull it out. Remove the putty immediately as the silicone will try to bond to it.
I learn so much watching you. You have a lot of knowledge.
I really like the Ultrasonic cleaner brush hack. Never even occurred to me I could clean my brushes like that.
Love the shape of the jar you cleaned the brush in. Looks like a an old quill & ink dealy.
I've had the Dspiae sander for a few months now. It's excellent for getting into tight spaces. 2 things about it to mention: Maybe not designed for this, but the oval shape of the sander prevents it from rolling off your bench. The other thing is that while sanding, if you press down too hard, it will shut off... a safety thing for the sander I'd think, so it doesn't get overloaded.
Thanks for showing these to us.
for a sander, I like my pneumatic rotary tool, because I can turn the air down so that it has a very low RPM and is much easier to do fine sanding without just tearing out chunks of plastic faster than intended.
Thanks for the tips Rex!
Great video! Sometimes you can find silly putty at the dollar store. Thank you 😎👍
Always looking forward to these tips and tricks videos!
Cool tools. 👍
Thanks for the tips. Have a great week!!
Something that works pretty well to clean your brushes is the masters soap. I had some brushes that had the hair discolored from using vallejo’s green. The brush was clean but the hair was discolored and used the masters soap and oh boy. It left my brushes as if they were new. Now I use it after cleaning my brushes in the usual way no matter what kind of paint I used. It takes out a lot of dirt from a brush that you consider clean.
Oh yeah that brush soap is awesome. I tested it some time back in another tips & tricks videos
I always enjoy these tips and tools videos, thanks!
Very informative, thank you.
Good tip with the ultrasonic bath. Thank you very much.
A big thumbs up and thanks for your great videos.👍
That's a great tip for brush cleaning. Great idea!
I picked up the purple set a few days ago. I haven’t used them yet I’m brand new to the hobby and I’m just accumulating tools etc for now. And figured I was getting an entry level cheap nipper. I’m suprised they work so well.
Thanks for showing the brush cleaning! Already helped me and I’m sure that it’ll help many others. 🤓
Might get that sander, the nips too. Thank you sir!
That sander is amazing 🤩! Great video review 😎🥳
I strongly recommend Japan made Argofile... They are the best electric file together with their wide range attachment..
I bought that sander also and works for me just fine and loving the Dspiae brands now
Great video more tools if you keep going my good man I will absolutely run out of bench space because of all the tools lol. Out bench space means I need a bigger room, which means a remodel, LOL this hobby will get real expensive if that happens. 😅
I just got back into the hobby 2-3 months ago… Thanx to you, I’m up to date on all the new tools and new tips and tricks. I joined your Patreon today, and I look forward to reaching out to you one day for some help
Welcome back and thanks for the support
Nice
I've used a clothes peg to hold a brush in abteilung brush cleaner but never thought to use the ultrasonic to agitate it simultaneously. Best wishes to Judy too
Nice tips and tool. The silly putty ive known about for sometime, fine scale modeler magazine i believe. Back when i had a subscrition. I sand a lot seams or stepped parts and filler on aircraft models, but i think I will stick to doing it by hand. Knowing me, i'd take too much plastic off with a powered sander. I did buy two of $10.00 Ultrasonic cleaners, going to give one to my wife to clean her jewelry.
Thanks for the video BR.
That 10 dollar sonic cleaner actually works pretty good for my airbrush.
I bought the small ultrasonic cleaner.. can't beet it for 10 bucks. ( Thanks to coupon ) Works great for my needs.
With the Silly Putty: Dollar store silly putty works better IMO. It's usually less viscous than regular silly putty which is worse for playing with but better for using as a mask.
I wanted to see you do a review of the Sustainable nippers.
Amazon has the basic Gaalheri air brush on sale for 29.99 as of 15 May
Glad the cleaner I found is working out so well for you and others! But you're reading the time on the display wrong. It's telling you how many seconds it'll run. 600 is 10 minutes (10 x 60), not 6. It's especially obvious with the 480 (8 minute) setting...
Awesome review! Do you also strain your metallic paints, such as your own line of metallic lacquer paints?
Yes, trying to get into the habit of straining everything
I've started using play doh to hold parts still for painting and gluing.
Bought few days ago tin of vegan soap brush, never used it before, have you guys used it?
I wonder if you can use the silly putty to do flame🔥
Hi, am watching the tips today. You mentioned a set type screw. How do u use it?
When are you going to make a video building some models???
Ak do purpose made masking putty . I have some ann I'm impressed so far , it's not exspensive either , i paid around £15 , so around $22 . M
Hello, off topic question, can Tamiya TS-14 be diluted with mr.Color leveling or not?
Yes it can
@@barbatosrex9473 Thank you very much, I'm new to the bench. I haven't had time to watch all your videos yet.Спасибо.
4:30 look at that. He figured out the sound when the ultrasonic cleaner is on.
Like your videos, quite informative! But, could we (you tube creators) stop using the term "Hack" ? Would you take your car to a "hack" mechanic? Would you want a "Hack" electrician wiring your house ??? Unless we are referring to one of the original terms for a taxi? How about tips and shortcuts??
Hack has more than one meaning.
First
Paint strainers are useless. If your paint isn't pure, buy better paint.
