  • The remnants of Hurricane Helene dissipated Saturday but millions remain without power across the Southeast.
The storm has been blamed for at least 52 deaths across five states, including 23 people in South Carolina and 11 in Florida. But the death toll is sure to rise as authorities continue to take stock of Helene's devastation.
The hurricane roared ashore Thursday night as a Category 4 storm on Florida's Gulf Coast and then quickly moved Friday through Georgia, the Carolinas and Tennessee, uprooting trees, splintering homes and sending creeks and rivers over their banks and straining dams.
In Horseshoe Beach, Florida, Betsy Hamelink and her family gathered to clean up debris from the storm.
"It’s heartbreaking and it’s physically and mentally exhausting but it’s the price you pay to have a little teeny tiny piece of a paradise," said Hamelink. "And to come back and clean up, it's part of it."

Another potential storm forming in western Caribbean. Same place where Helene formed. Florida coast may get slammed again next week.

If they don't mind going through that each time then more power to them! It's overwhelming and exhausting watching it all
I don't live in Florida and never will! I like the mountains, pine trees, fresh air, seasons of spring, summer, fall and winter and no hurricanes, earthquakes, volcanos, and tornadoes, I like living in peace and that is my paradise! Enjoy the cleanup in your paradise!

This lady says it all. To the people that criticized people for building homes by the ocean the statement " it's the price to pay for that time of living in paradise "❤
