funny thing is that glitch happened to me when i was a kid. Still do not know what causes it. All i know is that i tried to play some majora's mask, and my save files were gone. When i started playing, wierd stuff started happening. Then, i think i got to clock town and reset, and my save files were back, and it was fine again. Was really strange.

When you need to investigate something, you go back in time a certain amount, without fully knowing the cause (like a murder but you don’t know the murderer still), or go forward in time to stop something (like someone dying).

Man, PBG's content has hardly changed and that's not a bad thing.
The glitch where you kept dying seems like it's probably a pretty obvious cause, you have no heart containers. The game only checks for death when your health changes, and since all of those things (the heart piece, fairy, great fairy) all heal you (changing your health total) they cause the game to realize you're supposed to be dead and it kills you. The inventory full of instruments on the other hand, uh... yeah I don't know on that one.
As some of the replies have pointed out, the most likely reason for all the ocarinas is that all of the inventory slots have been assigned a value that happens to correspond to the item ID of the ocarina. For your inventory, it's likely that "empty" slots are left undefined, as the game does not need to reference them. Hence, a zero in that variable doesn't correspond to nothing, but with an item that has the internal ID of 0, in this case the ocarina.
My theory is that the game has filled every variable associated with that save slot with a default value of 0. Variables that are defined by the game as a whole are untouched, but those that are unique to that save file which track what you've collected, how many heart containers you have, and so on, are all defaulted to 0. Hence your maximum health value is zero, the id of every slot in your inventory is zero, and so on and so forth.
To be fair, I'm not an expert by any means and my programming experience is minimal, but it's interesting to try and puzzle out what's going on with these.
It's not a glitch. It's a spin on Ben Drowned.
It might be like the bad egg in Pokémon where if an item glitches our and gets a value it isn't valid it just defaults to an ocarina
He died at other places too though, like where he got the part of the fairy or talked to the last bomber. I think it just kills you every cutscene/dialogue box

@@m3mz614 He didn't die at the last bomber, the game just crashed. He also didn't die when he learned the song of healing, or at least, he didn't show dying there. The stray fairy I'll grant, though I vaguely seem to remember that picking up the last one heals you? I could be totally wrong, of course, but it seems the most likely scenario to me. I've seen very similar phenomenon happen in a lot of games, where you're technically supposed to be dead but the game doesn't register it until your health updates.
So, on 6:16 the great fairy calls peebs 00000000. Notice how it is specifically 8 zeroes. That is the size of a byte (aka the size of one ascii-character). And the value 0 represents the NULL character which represents an empty string. Most computers and programs have a hard time actually functioning as soon as you throw in a null value in there. That might be why peebs gets that hauntedd cartridge effect.

Thing is, 0 in text is stored internally as the number 48 so I don't know if that's what's happening here.
To think I started watching Zelda Month back when I was 8-9, and now I’m 18 still enjoying the same content. Zeldas been with me throughout my entire life, and in turn, so has Peebs. Thanks for helping me make great memories ❤️

Technically, yes. He is in two songs (As far as I know) called "Open your eyes" and "I'll be there for you".

Oh my gosh, I feel so validated to see this. I understand that Peebs is hacking the game, but my physical cartridge had the same glitch here involving no hearts and the menus full of ocarinas. I suspect all the deaths are because the game isn't sure what to do without hearts, even if you're gaining health. I also got walled in the same place he did at the Great Fairy, with my name as 000000 and getting reset over and over. What isn't shown here is after this particular death, you'll get reset with her saying the same dialogue; you don't spawn at the entrance of the Fairy Fountain after the game over cutscene. I suspect these issues happened because my cartridge was physically damaged (or dirty?) from us kids handling it poorly. I remember being creeped out at the time because that was around the same time I'd read Ben Drowned.
Same here! Though, I didn't get too far with my glitch, it scared the shit outta child me.
I, too, feel so valid about this now, I've never stopped thinking about it, & I retold it so many times to others, but nadda.
It's because everything has a value of zero, including max hp. So getting healed updates hp but the max is 0 so it can only be 0. And it seems like it only checks your hp whenever it changes so when you get healed you die

I remember similar things happening to other games I owned!! Really freaky stuff at the time. I think a lot of younger gamers think that video game creepypastas are completely dumb and unrealistic, but the reality is that cartridge tilting or dirty/damaged cartridges caused some freaky phenomena. Stuff you'd never experience with disks, or online downloads.
My creepiest experiences were with a damaged SM64 cartridge- all the recent memes felt super nostalgic!

Peebins, there's actually a glitch that you can do on the first three days of the game (when deku link) where if you target and walk backwards up against the wall toward the exit, you'll clip through the guard and get into Termina Field. And it's still that same eerie quiet with no enemies XD Most people use that glitch to go farm for rupees during that time to build up to the 5,000 rupee heart piece.

You can actually get past the guard as a Deku scrub on the first day without a moon jump, by hugging the wall to the left of the guard in East clock town and walking backwards. It’s really useful for farming rupees while you’re waiting for the end of the first cycle.

4:13 I have gotten this glitch before! Our save files were gone when we powered up the game, everything we touched killed Link instantly, and we had all the Ocarinas. When we eventually turned the game off and on again, our save files were back and the game was working normally.
This is probably one of the most nostalgic series on RUclips. So glad to see it has returned!!!!

When I made my sister her own file on my N64 Majoras Mask back in the mid-2000s, this series of events happened. No equipment. Died right at the start, and resumed with both inventories full of Ocarina of Times.
I dont recall Heart Pieces or Fairy Shards killing Link, but when she started acquiring items and masks, they overwrote the OoTs in their place. I was NEVER able to replicate the glitch(?) And didn't own or have access to a Gameshark/Action Replay, nor did I know anyone else this ever happened to.
I'm not sure what code you put in to make that happen, but thank you, Peebs for doing so, so I can now show my friends who I told about the glitch(?) What happened.

I had the exact same thing happen to our MM cart, our files were completely erased, Link was missing his sword and shield, and the inventory was full of Ocarinas. I had even taken a picture to prove that it happened. The strangest thing was we saved on that bizarre glitch file, yet the next time we turned on the N64, the old save files returned

That happened to me! I actually have some footage and pictures of it, and I am pretty sure the file is still wack. I don't know how to upload them to RUclips from my phone but I would love to do so and possibly find some answers.

Hey PBG, I'm a fan that's been a subscriber ever since around 2010 or 2011 I want to say. In fact you were just about the first RUclipsrs I actively watched and followed, I believe the first video I watched from you was probably the MySims video or even maybe Bart's Nightmare. Unfortunately, I haven't seen anything from you for a long time, I think around 2016. Just today I decided to watch some of your old G-Files videos, and that brought a wave of nostalgia back to me. 3:46 love to see moon jump being used to skip the guard on first cycle, but also as someone deep into the OOT and MM soeedrunning communities, fun fact - you can just kinda do this in vanilla by backwalking into the left corner of the door (from that backwards facing angle), between the wall and the guard's collision. You just walk back for a bit and he kinda lets you out lmao. (If it isn't working try the other corner, I'm rusty on which one as I follow oot more than mm but I'm p sure it's left). But ye termina field has no enemies ot music bc they never expected you to get out there on first cycle. [Edit: this only works on one of the guards, p sure it's East Clock Town.]

Thanks for bringing back the billion inventory full of ocarina of time's and swordless and shieldless link shenanigans PBG. Brings me back to my youth when that very thing happened to me one day. And i have no idea why. Tried to play majora's mask, loaded it up, and all my save files were gone. Started playing through the cutscene, the cutscene ended, link died for some strange reason. I wandered around for a bit and reached clock town, decided to reset, and re- insert the cart into my N64, and everything went back to normal. Was pretty creepy though.
Very few channels can spark the same childish joy that I first experienced when watching their videos. It’s hard to explain further than just saying “oh it’s nostalgia” because I can tell that it’s more than that. Never once have I felt like a simple kid again watching funny things happen to my favourite games, but there’s something about your voice and style of videos that’s always resonated with me. I find it crazy that over the past 6 or 7 years when I first found your channel that so much of my life has changed, and yet somehow, you still feel familiar. I’m kinda just rambling at this point and I’m not sure if you’ll see this, but over the years if I had to count the amount of times I’ve re watched your videos just to get a boost, you’d have released another g-files before I finished ;)

I turned off the game & cried because I was so scared & confused, I didn't really know about glitches back then, but I DID know how creepy Majora's Mask was compared to the prior titles, yet I love it soooo much!
