I don’t understand how PBG feels the same as when I started watching him in 2011 and yet I’m 24 and I still love his content. He’s the best example of growing with your audience and keeping his charm 👌

I really love the ending to this video. As someone who has been watching Peebs since around the time of his original windwaker hacking video, it’s crazy to hear him declare WW as his favorite game. You can really tell how passionate he is about WW and how much he loves it. I still remember his one million subscriber special where he listed his favorite games and MM always remained at number 1. Just goes to show that nothings truly set in stone.
It’s truly incredible how many years I’ve been subscribed to this channel. I’m happy to see this upload, and I sincerely hope there’s more from this channel in the months to come

My boyfriend was also turned off by the graphics when we were kids. I finally got him to play the Wii U version in our late 20s. He admitted his terrible mistake.
I've recently done the same thing but I don't think it was a terrible mistake.... The game was fine but not astonishing, haha
Wind waker aged like fine wine, and the remake just made it that much better. I want it on Switch.. SO BAD.

I remember getting a Gamecube for my birthday back in 2002. It was paired with the Golden Wind Waker edition (which also included OoT/Master Quest) and I immediately fell in love with it. My parents initially forgot to buy me a memory card, so I must've played the intro sequence in Forsaken Fortress at least a dozen times before getting one a month later (together with Luigi's Mansion). I used to get sh*t scared at the sneaking part, so I actually used my friend to clear it for me the first time lol. When I finally got to Tower of the Gods my little brother erased my original save, so I had to do the entire first part of the game yet AGAIN. I have so many great childhood memories with this game (also OoT), which is why it's still one of my favorites.
Personally I also really liked the Wii U version and thought the upgraded bloom/shaders looked terrific. It gave most characters a kind of claymation aesthetic which I really liked. The only thing I didn't enjoy about the remaster is the fact that they cut content (the triforce quest) but didn't add anything new. Wind Waker was kind of rushed during development and it left a lot of stuff on the cutting room floor. Things such as a third temple on Great Fish Isle or the removal of the Eastern/Western dungeons during the later part of the game would've been really neat if they were readded. Maybe I was asking for too much, but you can find so much stuff about cut Wind Waker content online that it kind of makes me sad that we never got the complete intended version of the game!

Yeah a proper reimagining with more content and less filler would've been amazing. But Aonuma has said that the cut dungeon ideas from WW were already used in other Zelda games, so they'd have nothing left to work off and "wasting" entirely new dungeons on a remake is probably not seen as the best use of their time.
Also, why didn't you just leave your Gamecube on when you didn't have a memory card? 😄
@@Christopher-md7tf that makes sense I guess. If they had reimagined those cut dungeons we could’ve gotten recycled content from other Zelda titles. I do wonder which dungeons made it into the later games though!
Concerning my GameCube, I wasn’t allowed to leave it on because my parents thought it was wasteful. I was also scared of it overheating lol.
I’ll always appreciate how you’ve perfected your own style , kept the same energy from the old days but feels really refined

I don't even understand how people expected that the he the next art style. It was a demo showing off ocarina of time in updated graphics. It was NEVER a showcase of what's come my next. It's up there for one of the biggest assumptions that crashed and burned.
@@shun22222 That's basically what people wanted at the time. I still want that Wii U tech demo, which was basically like an improved OoT too. We still never really got that, maybe with TP kinda...but both demos look better imo.
I haven't seen a PBG video in years and I am glad the energy has persisted after all this time.
I would have to argue that wind waker actually has one of the best zelda stories. It's the game that really humanized ganondorf by further elaborating on his motivations to take over hyrule and his motivation to revive hyrule in general was pretty relatable. Not to mention the character arcs with makar, tamali, medley and more are so endearing. And then then to finally wrap it up with the theme of moving on and building a new future is a really heart felt one that I still love to this day. It's a story that is really up there with the likes of twilight princess and majora's mask.
This style of video has held up surprisingly well. Really glad I started watching again.

200% Agree with ya Peebs on WW. I loved everything that people hated about OG WW. When you first get the sail and leave Windfall island and you hear nothing but the wind and ocean waves for a couple of seconds then Great Sea music kicks in is still magical to me since the first day I played it. It really captures the feel of "I'm going on a grand adventure!" that I still have not felt again.
I love how expressive Link is in WW.
Also, voice acting.
One of my favorite parts of this game was how much more expressive Toon Link was than any other Link before the Hero of the Wild showed up.
Another thing to add to the beetle criminal theory is that he only appears on windfall(the most populated town) at night, and when you sell him items dropped by monsters(yes you can do that, butterfly pendents and champions belts that sort of thing) he says he is just selling it directly back to the monsters.

Holy fuck, after over a decade of Austin's favorite game being Majora's Mask, it feels oddly nostalgic to see him move on and accept that our feelings about things change. How we feel about a game today could change tomorrow or the next day, but I think seeing Austin fall in love with The Wind Waker all over again and call it his favorite video game of all time right now just makes me remember that the only thing that matters is how we feel right now, and that's okay. I loved this video Austin, and the ending was just so heartwarming, thank you for keeping me laughing and reminding me why you'll always be my favorite content creator ever :)

I was under the impression that he consistently flip-flopped between MM and WW, but then I remembered that's Jirard with Mario 3 and Mario World.
Yeah when you've been watching Peebs from the start you understand how much that shift from Majora's mask to Wind Waker as his favorite game means. It's like watching a king pass his crown to his son. For so long Peebs said nothing could ever top Majora's Mask.
twilight princess for the gc will always be my absolute favorite zelda game of all time, wind waker was my first though, so it will always hold a special place in my heart. WW is a super close second to TP imo

I have been subscribed to you for 13 years, I never thought I'd see the day when Majora's Mask would be dethroned as your favorite game, but hearing that actually hit me in the feels. The Wind Waker replacing Majora's Mask as PBG's favorite Legend of Zelda game of all time?
Now that is something I *never* expected to see, I thought Majora's Mask would always be his #1 favorite (and Wind Waker be either his #3 or #2 fave) since he has praised that N64 game so much since the beginning of his RUclips career life.
I glad he changed it, I never understood Majora's Mask being anyone's favourite... I get that it's still a good game and all but never the best... unless its for nostalgia purpose

@@samthemadman5000 People love Majora's Mask because it's just Ocarina of Time with a tighter, more well-paced plot and more side content that's also more in-depth. Personally, I never understood OoT being put on a higher pedestal than MM unless it's for nostalgia, like you said -- I prefer MM for being a self-contained story, while OoT was originally written as the prequel to LttP and ended up instead being the most critical plot juncture despite that.
Admittedly, I tend to prefer new ideas and novelty with a new Zelda game, but Majora's Mask _nailed_ the "refine and polish" approach to sequels that allows for a new game to come out quickly and at high quality with the only sacrifice being the holdover of the exact same game feel. I don't know if MM is my favourite, specifically because I prefer new ideas, but it definitely ranks above... well, name a top-down Zelda that released after LttP solidified the formula.
Then again, what do I know? Skyward Sword is in my top five Zeldas and *_Starfox: Adventures_* is in my top ten Zeldas.
@CoralCopperHead OoT did it first, where as MM is alot of the sane but with less dungeons and an annoying time mechanic... I'm glad people enjoy it but I've only ever completed it once because I hated the time mechanic so much, I dig the vibe it gives off though... ALttP is the best in the series for me, also alot of people aren't too fond of WW but that's in my top 3

This video genuinely left me with a big smile on my face the whole way through, which is insane considering it’s over 30 minutes long (I especially liked the bittersweet ending, just about made me shed a tear there!) Wish you would’ve mentioned Windwaker Randomizer, but I understand it would’ve been a bit of a tangent. Been loving the content and I can’t wait to see what comes next!

Loved the editing here. I've been watching since around 2009 and this made me really reminiscent of why I started watching the channel in the first place. Great video as always, Wind Waker is also my favorite game of all time and it's always nice to see it getting some love

My first memories of PBG was with wind waker and the “They see me rollin’, they are hating me, and they think that I am trying to ride so dirty” segment.
One thing you didn't mention that I enjoyed was Ganondorf is portrayed differently. He's older and more reflective than in other games, making him more fleshed out here than any other game in the series. You get more of a reason for actions and is the most sympathetic portrayal.
You’ve touched me right in the nostalgia.
The only change the Wii U had that meant anything to me was the Tingle Bottle. It made collecting all the figurines a breeze (pun intended)! Also, I loved plundering for treasure, so I was a little sad the HD version had less of it.
Wind Waker was my first and is my favorite Zelda game and probably video game of all time. I have been waiting for this.

I can't believe you made Wind Waker your favorite game. For as long as I've been watching you, it was always Majora's Mask. It's sort of strange to see that be changed, but I respect it.
I just finished re-playing this on Hero mode for the second time. This is my favorite Zelda game. I agree that just sailing around and exploring the islands is the best part. I don't like the fast sail either. I want to take my time getting to each island, be on the lookout for any treasure or anything cool, just enjoy that sense of adventure.

When PBG did the first windwaker video it encouraged me to play it as my first Zelda game, and I absolutely loved it and continued playing Zelda games from then on

Legit, the first Animal Crossing game I played, the designs I made were from Wind Waker - and those designs got better in New Leaf. The Medli dress is still my fave.
