So beautiful, so inspirational to watch & listen to all these young people, singing Bach, from memory (not a score in sight!), totally involved and dedicated, and immersed in the exquisite music they are performing! Very moving, even though it is only a dress rehearsal - don't miss viewing this one! (From a Choral Music Major, and holder of a Bachelor of Music Degree).
Very fine performance! Really touched to see so many people of different races united, this performance really moved me! My eyes are wet.. Not joking, really, my eyes are really wet!
I made it to Area the year that this was an audition peice and got sick, so I made 16th chair... But this song has touched me in such a strong way! I'm a junior now, and just advanced to Pre-Area, and I still remember the connection that I developed with this song! It means so much to me! This song has deffinanatley been one of the biggest influences in my life, and I will always remember it. Thank you so much for having this on RUclips!
I was so blessed to make the Texas all-state choir my freshman yr of high school which was '09 nd i have to say this was the best yr so far! Im a junior now nd didn't make it past area this year but hopefully i'll make again my senior yr!!!! It's an amazing experiance :)
I can't begin to express how enjoyable it is to hear Bach SUNG, and sung very well indeed. Wow, as expressed by Dr. Snow, is probably as good as any comment. Tempo seems to start a bit slow but finds itself within a couple of bars. By the sop's. entrance, everything is in sync. and stays solid, yes, even inspired from that point on. If this piece doesn't move you - you may need to check your pulse. Makes me wish I were in high school again - only in Texas!
This is great! I sang this in a very small college ensemble in 2009 (about 16 singers) This is well blended and a beautiful interpretation of this piece. I think it's great that it's memorized! Great work, this is a very challenging piece!
I know!!! Wasn't it just awesome? Surrounded by other talented, smart.... Talented young people was the best. Can't wait until the next TMEA convention.
Is the performance available for purchase? This (or the actual performance which was not as well represented here on RUclips - fidelity wise at least) beats most recorded readings. The trend seems to be some emasculated mechanical reading of Bach. In the name of authenticity somehow Bach seems to have lost his soul and the majesty of his music with it!! I'm certain these singers will cherish these moments for many years to come. Y'all did yourselves, Bach, and Texas proud!!
@scusemuse07 Bach's music is never easy to play, not even his instrumental pieces. When younger, I struggled alot with his fugues from Well-tempered Clavier.
nice job. and now the question is What will you do with your voices? and more than that will you settle for mediocre later in life or will you continue to insist on doing this music when you are adults??? or do you want mediocre in the adult choir??? I'm hard pressed to see that music is a priority all I hear is its too hard or similar. Bach wrote this to be sung not just as some all state thing or a once in your life feather in the cap or some letter in music reason. insist on continuing to improve your voice and. don't settle. this was really nice. keep going. the oratorio does not end in high school graduation. creation seasons messiah magnificat Gloria rheinberger distler. so much to sing about in the words of Paul Manz

very good sopranos, altos, and tennors!
Not to mention it was my senior year.
Saw this on the t-shirt of the guy in front, "Real men sing bass." Nonsense! Men also sing tenor and sometimes alto.
I'm quite sure that there's a shirt that says "Real Men sing tenor", and alto as well. Please relax.

At least you didn't make first chair every round prior to Area and then get mono and end up unable to even sing one note. :/
