    Money aside, the time spent with your son is priceless. The fantastic results are just a bye product of that.

    When I restored my 74 CJ5 I did convert from the stock 2 barrel 304 to a performance built 4 barrel 360 and surprisingly the mileage is actually a bit better with the 360 . Not surprising is the performance difference. Wow is all I can say

      If you do that Golden Eagle, skip the AMC V8 and find a modern truck with a V8. Use the whole electrical, emission and exhaust systems from the truck so you will have a fuel injected engine. Those 70's AMC motors were junk. Just my 2cents.

    • @philipgibson98

      That Darn Project we had to have some frame repair so it was sand blasted. Then we had it powder coated black. Holds up great. Hope that helps.

      +Philip Gibson Mike I looked it up and about all I have is that it is a General Motors color from 1999. We liked it because it was a great contrast to the interior and it had a nice peril in the paint. Hope that answers the question. Thanks for asking.

    What is the total cost?

    • @philipgibson98
      @philipgibson98  6 лет назад +2

      Ajay Kumar The total cost to finish, well let's just say it was a lot, but the experience was more than the money spent. I probably would not do it again because I could never get all my money back out. It will be a family airloom. In addition this jeep has an extensive store behind in. Thanks for the inquiry.

    • @robertbrandywine
      @robertbrandywine 4 года назад

      @@philipgibson98 What do you mean "extensive store behind it"? I bet you could sell this and get all your time and parts money back plus a profit.

    • @rustylittleman5159
      @rustylittleman5159 4 года назад +1

      @@robertbrandywine The word "Store" should have been "Story". It is very hard to find older Jeeps that have not been demolished through wear and tear this Jeep was previously owned by an older man and it carried a great deal of sentimental value. That sentimental value was additionally elevated through this restoration process. The economic cost although high does not compare to the memories held by us during the restoration. We could have fixed it up but our goal was to make it better than the day it came from the dealer. Hope that gives a bit more information

    • @robertbrandywine

      @@rustylittleman5159 Thanks, as I said I had a 1980 that I purchased new. The CJ5 is the only jeep I would own.

    what was the total cost of restoration?

    • @philipgibson98
      @philipgibson98  7 лет назад +7

      Mike the total cost to completely resort this Jeep was around 64,000.00 but much of that cost was caused by a body shop that took me for a ride. There were several people who were taken and the shop is now closed with many law suites against the owner. If I applied a reasonable cost for the paint and body work I would say that the overall cost would have been closer to 35 or 40. What ever though it was an experience for my son and I that I will never forget and the Jeep will remain in the family for a long time.

    • @michealbeers777
      @michealbeers777 7 лет назад +5

      ...I just saw a 1979 quadra track completely restored by an owner of a body shop...(it looked brand new),he said his out of pocket cost was a llittle over $6,200...as in six thousand, Two hundred. In checking the prices for parts for ANY CJ7, you can just about buy everything you need to remake one for around $6,500, or less. With all do respect, on what planet did you have your Jeep restored?

    • @philipgibson98
      @philipgibson98  7 лет назад +4

      The planet of body shop rip off. It's a long story of which I could write a best selling novel, but I can say that to do a complete frame off restoration with engine rebuild, Trans rebuild and all other chassis components either new or completely rebuilt you would be hard pressed to be under 15 to 20 thousand.

    • @michealbeers777
      @michealbeers777 7 лет назад +2

      ..just taking the Body alone, a damn good Paint job, ( with under coating).....$1,500 to $3000 tops. Man, if you paid a penny over that, I don't even want to know. We're talking "Jeep" here for heaven's sake. I've seen people rebuild them in their garage....and they look awesome!

    • @philipgibson98
      @philipgibson98  7 лет назад +5

      Mike what can I say. Experience is the best teacher. Now I just enjoy it. If you are restoring one let me know when you are finished.
